This is the season of political town halls, but there’s one on Monday evening that is garnering some attention in the media pundit class: An event featuring Sen. Joe Manchin (D-wv) and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman designed to promote the group No Labels.
The streamed event from Saint Anselm College in Manchester, Nh, is designed to outline a No Labels policy agenda as the group looks to get behind a third-party presidential ticket, focused on the idea that there is a “common sense” bipartisan solution to political polarization.
Kevin Cirilli, correspondent for Scripps News and former chief Washington correspondent for Bloomberg Television, is serving as moderator of the event. He is not affiliated with No Labels.
No Labels has had plenty of pushback from Democrats, who see such a third-party bid as hurting Joe Biden’s reelection chances more than it would a Republican nominee, potentially returning Donald Trump to the White House.

When Abby Huntsman, who was one of The View‘s conservative co-hosts along with Meghan McCain during her relatively brief 2018-20 tenure, announced her departure from the oftentimes controversial ABC daytime talk show, the former Fox News personality said it was because she wanted to join and assist the Utah gubernatorial race of her father Jon Huntsman.
Rumors quickly spread on social media that the real reason Huntsman was leaving the show was its much-discussed “toxic” workplace environment, a reason Huntsman now confirms as true.
In her new podcast called I Wish Somebody Told Me with friend, comedy writer and media producer Lauren Leeds, debuting today, Huntsman says she had decided to leave The View because the show’s workplace environment “did not reflect my values” and was “rewarding people for bad behavior.”
“I’m never going to write a tell-all book,” she says, but adds that the “executives in...

There was a time, not that long ago I’m embarrassed to admit, when I would daydream about being the White House Press Secretary for a Republican president. As a spokesperson for Jon Huntsman and Jeb Bush, it’s clear this was a rather ridiculous dream, given the outcome of those campaigns, but it was something I would think about nonetheless.

Abby Huntsman praised her colleagues on The View and made mention of the rumors of acrimony on the set, all during her sendoff from the show on Friday as she leaves to help run her father Jon Huntsman’s gubernatorial campaign in Utah.
“People go nuts with rumors on this show, and this week has been no exception,” Huntsman said to her View co-hosts. “I just want to be as clear as I possibly can. This has been a dream come true. This has been an incredible job. And I do love everyone at this table.”
Huntsman announced her departure earlier this week, and that was followed by reports that the turbulent environment of the show was a factor in her decision to leave. Citing unnamed sources, CNN reported on a dispute between her and fellow co-host Meghan McCain as well as Huntsman’s concerns about a “toxic environment.”

She said that when she was initially asked by her father to join his campaign, she thought that it was not the right time. They’re getting it right at “The View.”
Abby Huntsman, who has worked at Fox News Channel as a general assignment reporter and co-host of the weekend edition of “Fox & Friends,” is expected to join the ABC daytime talk show, according to a person familiar with the situation. Huntsman, who is the daughter of Jon Huntsman, the U.S. Ambassador to Russia, would bolster the ranks of young Republicans around “The View’s” table, joining Meghan McCain.
ABC declined to make executives available for comment. Huntsman is expected to work her last stint on “Fox & Friends Weekend” this Saturday and Sunday, Fox News said in a statement.

The set of “Fox & Friends” added their voice to the chorus of criticism which rained down on President Donald Trump after his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki on Monday, telling Trump that he “fell short” of what was required of him and urged him to rectify the situation.
“Thanks to Robert Mueller’s probe we know the names of the 12 people at least on the Russian side, who were part of the hacking into the election,” said co-host Brian Kilmeade. “When President Trump was asked about that, he fell short.”
Kilmeade, who has increasingly emerged as Trump’s toughest critic on the show, then berated the president directly, who is known to be a regular and close watcher of the show.

PopPolitics: Mark McKinnon on How ‘The Circus’ Finds a Narrative in a Torrent of Trump News (Listen)
Washington — The recently completed season of Showtime’s “The Circus” ended with the episode “Their Brand Is Crisis,” delving into how President Trump and the White House are coping with the protracted Russia investigation — which is to say, they’re attacking its credibility.
Mark McKinnon, co-host of “The Circus” along with Alex Wagner and John Heilemann, tells Variety that the context for Trump’s constant attacks on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation as a “witch hunt” have a lot to do with making sure that the president can maintain a political advantage, particularly if Democrats win back control of the House.
“If there is a Democratic House, which is certainly a possibility, and Bob Mueller lays out something, it doesn’t matter what that something is, I guarantee Democrats are going to move to impeach,” McKinnon says. “So Donald Trump knows in the long range, what he needs is...

Scaramucci Reportedly Fooled into Exchange with Prankster Posing as Priebus: ‘You Know What You Did’
A British “email prankster” successfully tricked top White House officials — including recently ousted communications director Anthony Scaramucci — by posing as various administration members, adding to the tumult of a presidency that many view as in crisis.
CNN’s Jake Tapper reported Monday night that the prankster posed as recently ousted chief of staff Reince Priebus, and emailed Scaramucci shortly after Priebus announced his resignation last week.

What’s this? Good news in 2016? For a change, yes: China announced yesterday that it is completely banning its ivory trade by the end of 2017, a move that will hopefully go a long way toward protecting the world’s dwindling elephant population. Especially happy with the development is “The Ivory Game” co-director Kief Davidson, who says in an email to IndieWire that he and his team are “all so blown away by the news.”
“When we set out to make this film four years ago, it really seemed like such an improbable outcome that China would go against centuries of tradition and ban ivory,” continues Davidson. “The impact of this is everything we could have had hoped for as documentary filmmakers. We’ve received so many emails in the last 24 hours from conservationists on the...

Meet Ritchie Torres. At twenty-eight years old, the New York City Council member is the youngest elected official in New York City. Torres, a long-time resident of the Central Bronx, uses his own experiences and genuine, hard-won optimism to represent his constituents in a city that can be difficult to navigate. And Torres, for one, understands that truth on a deep and personal level.
The New Yorker has turned their spotlight on Torres in their latest original short film, the very appropriately named “The Youngest Elected Official in New York City,” which introduces its audience to Torres, his works and his attitude in snappy and charming fashion.

No false advertising here: Alexey Mizgirev’s historical epic, “The Duelist,” follows a professional duelist in 19th century Czarist Russia, a period of time that was punctuated by some of society’s most well-to-do families settling things literally the old-fashioned way, by employing professional fighters to face off in regulated duels. That’s one way to settle a disagreement. But there’s a bit more to it than that.
As the film’s official synopsis makes clear, “there was a strict code of behavior applied to the practice of duelling; one rule was that a substitute was allowed, another was that nobles would fight only fellow nobles.” Both of those code items become very, very important in the film.
Can you guess where this is going?

Documentarian Vanessa Hope’s first full-length feature focuses on the complex relationship between the United States and China, effectively combining both very personal stories and a broader look at international relations in general.
“All Eyes and Ears” combines stories involving the U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, his adopted Chinese daughter Gracie Mei, and blind legal advocate Chen Guangcheng, to create a smart (and very timely) exploration into a relationship between super powers that has always come with its own complications. Rapper J. The 40-minute film has just shown up over on Tidal, and provides a compelling look inside Cole’s work and life.

That feature, entitled “Forest Hills Drive: Homecoming” included Cole performing every song off “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” but “Eyez” moves further away from that style to provide something much more intimate. Mads Mikkelsen seems to be staying busy in the wake of the conclusion of his much-beloved television series “Hannibal,” including what looks to be a deceptively big role in the upcoming “Star Wars” spinoff film, “Rogue One,” and whatever the heck is going on in this new trailer for Hideo Kojima’s upcoming video game “Death Stranding.” Just try to parse this one.
As GameSpot quite amusingly describes it, the trailer opens with an “in-game version of what looked like film director Guillermo del Toro carrying a baby in an incubation chamber while hiding from the military.” And that’s not even the half of it. Surrogate Gdt manages to look quite dapper in the middle of what appears to be a massive military occupation of a large city, complete with weird substances, floating baby dolls and a tank that seems to be covered in sentient squid-guys.

The movie formerly known as The Huntsman is now The Huntsman: Winter's War! The Snow White and the Huntsman spinoff's new title, which reads like a parody of contemporary trends in blockbuster movie titling, refers to the conflict between Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman and his sister (Emily Blunt), a reclusive ice queen with the power to freeze anyone who says this plot seems remarkably similar to Frozen. In other news, former Utah governor Jon Huntsman will remain Jon Huntsman.

An interesting thing has happened since the White House pronounced late last week that Sony had made a mistake in cancelling the controversial Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy, and Sony pronouncing that it had no choice but to cancel. Voices from across the political spectrum, from Hollywood and beyond – and now including the studio itself – have been calling for a method to release the movie.

Former Utah governor and former U.S. ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, Jr. joined a number of politicians urging Sony Pictures Entertainment to release “The Interview,” despite terrorist threats from hackers that may be linked to North Korea.
“I think we do what we do best, which is, you make a good movie, you say you’re going to deliver it to the people, and you deliver it to the people,” Huntsman, a 2012 presidential candidate, told TMZ in a video released Friday. “You don’t let anybody stand in your way.”

Producers on "The View" have targeted two types of hosts they are looking to fill their empty positions ... and let's just say if you speak a little Spanish ... you could be in luck. Sources involved in the search tell TMZ ... View honchos are on the hunt for a Latina -- which would be a first for the show. Lauren Sanchez almost got the gig back in the day when Debbie Matenopoulos got fired, but Lisa Ling snagged the gig.

One of the revelations contained in the book Double Down is that Jon Huntsman Sr., father to former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., was the source of the information which led Sen. Harry Reid (D-nv) to claim Mitt Romney paid no taxes. MSNBC host Abby Huntsman took issue with this claim on Monday saying that many of the reports in the book are misleading and are as thinly supported as “high school gossip.”...

Co-host of MSNBC’s The Cycle and daughter of former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, Abby Huntsman, savaged Fox News Channel contributor and RedState.com co-founder Erick Erickson on Wednesday. Speaking with MSNBC’s Martin Bashir, Huntsman said that when Erickson called Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D-Fort Worth) “abortion Barbie,” he demonstrated that he “doesn’t care about the future of the Republican Party.”...

Syfy’s upcoming drama Helix (from Battlestar Galatica producer Ronald D. Moore) has picked Billy Campbell for a leading role, according to Deadline. Campbell will play a divorced doctor who is part of a team investigating the outbreak of a deadly disease.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed this means Billy Campbell will finally be on good show.
Pan Am fave Karine Vanasse will appear in a multi-episode arc on Revenge as a woman from Daniel‘s past. If they can find an excuse to get Vanasse to sing “Deutschland Uber Alles” again, I’ll be happy.
The Hollywood Reporter digs into the behind-the-scenes drama at Community and series creator Dan Harmon. It’s an interesting peek, at the very least.

Abby Huntsman will leave her host/producer position at HuffPost Live for MSNBC's "The Cycle," the network announced today. She'll join Krystal Ball, Ari Melber, and Toure on MSNBC's weekly 3-4 P.M. show on July 29. Huntsman is replacing S.E. Cupp, who departed to host CNN's upcoming revived version of "Crossfire." Huntsman, daughter of former Republican presidential candidate and Utah governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. (she worked for his 2012 campaign as his media advisor and surrogate), hosted HuffPost Live, Huffington Post's livestreaming news and talk show, since its Aug. 2012 launch. Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood has taken his well-publicized support of same-sex marriage one step further, calling upon the U.S. Supreme Court to drop Prop 8.
As Breitbart's Mike Flynn reports, the Oscar-winning actor and director joined more than 100 Republicans in signing a Supreme Court-bound brief in favor of allowing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) couples the right to legally wed in California.
Flynn describes Eastwood as a "ong-time Republican with strong libertarian leanings," and says that signing the Supreme Court briefs implies that he "is going to stay active in the political landscape."
One of Eastwood’s representatives and a spokesman for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the group spearheading opposition to California’s law banning same-sex marriage, confirmed the news to NBC.
Former Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman and Gop strategist Steve Schmidt are among the other high-profile names to sign the brief, CBS News reports.

With all the talk lately about outlawing cats because they're an environmental terror (no, I am not funding this research), what animal would make a good substitute for cats as pets? It turns out raccoons and opossums are largely out, but skunks (once descented) are a viable option

What will the Colbert Nation make of this?
Elizabeth Colbert-Busch, one of Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert’s older sisters, will run for Congress in her home state of South Carolina — as a Democrat — according to a report from local newspaper the St. Andrews Patch. This is Colbert-Busch’s first foray into politics; she’s previously worked for various administrative departments at Clemson University. The race for the traditionally Republican seat in the state’s First Congressional District — which runs along the Atlantic coast — is a hotly contested one, with ex-governor Mark Sanford one of several Republicans vying for the seat.

From Perry's 'oops', to Biden's 'big stick', via RuPaul and Lena Dunham, here are my highlights of this political crazy season
It's been the costliest election in American history and it sure feels like the longest. It has also been one of the weirdest. The Gop primary provided a mini-series' worth of clown-car exits and debates, Twitter gave celebrities the chance to make themselves seem as unself-aware and smug as pundits (and vice versa). YouTube gave the world the presidential candidate we deserved – Bronco Bama – and hashtags organized the terse poetry of the truly bored.
Here is a list of some things that actually – no, really, for serious – happened.
1. Lindsay Lohan live tweeted the foreign policy debate.
2. A bayonet company spokesman called Obama "ignorant" for joking that troops no longer need horses and bayonets "because troops still use bayonets".
3. Donald Trump promised Americans that "their president will become transparent." Not...

The Northeast newspapers want Barack Obama, the Midwest's big dailies -- minus those in Democrat-dominated Chicago -- are pushing Mitt Romney. And there was a surprise endorsement in Mormonism's unofficial capital. On Monday, the Boston Globe -- Romney's hometown paper that endorsed then-Republican presidential hopeful Jon M. Huntsman Jr. during the Gop primary -- has again snubbed the former Massachusetts governor and endorsed Obama's reelection. The thumbs-up for Obama came a day after the New York Times, which owns the Globe, urged readers to vote for Obama in a Sunday editorial. Also read:...

Maybe that sequel will happen after all. Very clever, Universal. First, you announce that "Snow White and the Huntsman" is tracking a bit weak, possibly in the low 30s. Then, there's a "leak" that you've backtracked on a sequel since getting David Koepp to pen a follow-up. And now, with reports that 'Huntsman' may have actually connected with the young males they were trying to entice, registering a $55 million opening, there's great rejoicing for the film, particularly in the wake of the absolutely pathetic "Battleship" returns.
There are a couple of narratives here, most of them involving Universal dodging a major bullet. One, obviously, is a victory over the opposing Snow White film, with "Mirror Mirror" only collecting $63 million domestic, a number 'Huntsman' should reach by midweek. Another is a big debut for a film with three relatively untested leads, all of whom see their profiles raised considerably. Following "Thor" and "The Avengers,...

Oh, there was lots of evocative imagery on The View today! The cohosts were discussing a recent wave of conservative endorsements for Mitt Romney, from George Pataki to former candidate Jon Huntsman. The common thread in these endorsements was that nobody seemed all that excited about making them, which Elisabeth Hasselbeck ascribed to Sore Loser Syndrome ("Once a competitor, always a competitor").

In the end, a stunt can and should only go so far. As results roll in for the South Carolina Republican primary, it seems that despite Stephen Colbert’s exuberant rally for the former Republican Presidential candidate only 1.1% of the voters were swayed by his endorsement. This probably wasn’t much of a nail-biter for Cain, whose name was left on the ballot despite the fact that he’d dropped out of the race. He himself urged the crowd of 3000+ at Friday’s rally not to vote for him. But lovers of pseudo news may be impressed by Cain’s 6,000 some votes.

It's been a very, very wild ride for former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich-- one that began with what appeared to be a quixotic campaign against presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, took a nosedive when his campaign staff resigned en masse, peaked too early before Iowa, fell once again as the focus shifted to Rick Santorum and Jon Huntsman, and here we are again, I guess it must be fate.

It’s Top Chef Texas Episode 11, entitled “Fit For An Evil Queen”, which means it’s time to bring in the evilest queen of them all – no, not Paula Deen, though that would be hilarious timing if she were the guest judge – it’s evil incarnate Charlize Theron: She’s not actually evil incarnate, even though I’ll bet 40% of my female friends hate her because she’s any actress. So what’s she doing here for Top Chef EvilCon 2012? You’d think she’d be on the show to promote Young Adult, but nope – she’s promoting Snow White And The Huntsman, which comes out in June of 2012, even though this Top Chef episode was shot in like October 1993 so none of the movie filming has actually been done and she clearly doesn’t know what the movie is about other than it probably isn’t an arty Jon Huntsman documentary.

Rick Perry suspended his presidential campaign today, telling a South Carolina audience that his candidacy had “no viable path forward” and endorsing rival Newt Gingrich. After rocketing to the top of the Republican polls and being heralded as the second coming of Ronald Reagan, the Texas governor imploded in the spotlight with repeated self-inflicted gaffes. Drawing only 6 percent in recent South Carolina polls — that’s Stephen Colbert territory, hoss — Perry had become a living, breathing parody of the slick Southern yee-haw Republican pol.

The presidential campaign of Ron Paul has filed a federal lawsuit against anonymous individuals who uploaded a video to the Internet attacking former presidential contender Jon Huntsman. The video in question purported to come from New Hampshire supporters of Paul and suggested that Huntsman, a former U.S. ambassador to China, was a "Manchurian Candidate." Paul is suing for defamation, false advertising and false designation of origin in violation of the Lanham Act in what could be an interesting lawsuit to follow. TV attack ads are not unusual in electorial politics. But the commercial (below) was particularly nasty, leading

Jon Huntsman dropped out of the Gop presidential race this weekend, but that doesn't mean we've seen the last of the candidate who Jimmy Kimmel confuses for the guy whose photo comes with picture frames. No, sir.
We mean come on, Huntsman's endorsement of Mitt Romney has "I want to be Vice President" written all over it.
And if these updated Romney attack ads from Kimmel's Tuesday night show are any indication, Huntsman might need to do a slightly better job of making it seem like he's been with Mitt since the beginning.
