While Season 2 of “Wheel of Time” concluded Friday, filming on the Prime Video fantasy series’ third season had already started filming prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
“I am speaking to you a day after filming it. We are in the midst of it. We are all energized by everything that’s going on in Season 3,” star Rosamund Pike told TheWrap in a June 28 interview, days before the onset of actors’ guild strike. “We feel like we’ve established the rules of our world, we can explore them and push the boundaries, we can do more experimental camera work and we can try and get a visual language for these incredible concepts that [author] Robert Jordan came up with.”

Prime Video dropped a sneak peek of “Wheel of Time” Season 2 ahead of its release on Sept. 1, which fans can now watch at the end of last season’s finale.
According to the Amazon-owned streamer, the special look “reflects the structure of the best-selling and epic “The Wheel of Time” book series by Robert Jordan,” in which he would add the first chapter of the next book as a preview.
The scene, which opens the first episode of the second season, is an adaptation of the fan favorite “Darkfriend Social” prologue of the second novel of Jordan’s series, “The Great Hunt,” upon which “Wheel of Time” Season 2 is largely based. It’s also based on some elements of Jordan’s third novel, “The Dragon Reborn.”

Prime Video released the official key art from the second season of ‘The Wheel of Time’. Based on the best-selling Robert Jordan fantasy series The Wheel of Time, Rand al’Thor learns he is The Dragon Reborn – a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. Desperate to protect him from the Dark One, an army of powerful women must reckon with his burgeoning power and encroaching madness.
The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. Though Rand thought he destroyed the Dark One, evil is not gone from the world. In Season Two, threats new and very old seek out the young friends from the Two Rivers, now scattered over the world. The woman who found and guided them is now powerless to help, and so they must find other sources of strength. In each other, or themselves. In the Light… or the Dark.

There are 110 submissions on the 2022 Emmys ballot for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Writing, resulting in six nominees. As a reminder, last year’s winner was “I May Destroy You” (Michaela Coel) and the other nominees were “The Queen’s Gambit” (Scott Frank), “Mare of Easttown” (Brad Inglesby) and three episodes from “Wandavision”.
The low number of entries in this year’s Best Limited/Movie Writing category can be attributed to the fact that all the top contenders have submitted only one or two episodes from their series when given the option. Danny Strong, a previous winner for “Game Change” in this category a decade ago, entered the “Dopesick” finale, “The People vs. Purdue Pharma.” Other programs that submitted their final episodes were “Maid” (“Snaps”) and “Station Eleven” (“Unbroken Circle”) by their respective showrunners Molly Smith Metzler and Patrick Somerville, which is not a bad method given that seven...

Ben Foster had only appeared in a few television projects – including the pilot episode of cult favorite “Freaks and Geeks” – when Barry Levinson launched his feature film career with 1999’s “Liberty Heights.” The coming-of-age drama, the fourth in a series of films Levinson made about growing up in Baltimore that started with 1982’s “Diner,” proved to be a breakout opportunity for the then-teenage Foster. In the years that followed, he parlayed the opportunity into a prolific film career that bounced between blockbusters (“X-Men: The Last Stand”), studio dramas (“3:10 to Yuma”) and indie favorites (“Hell or High Water”).
Now, more than 20 years later, Foster and Levinson have reunited for “The Survivor.” The HBO film – which first debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2021 – focuses on Harry Haft (Foster), who survived the Holocaust after being forced to fight fellow prisoners in grueling matches and later embarked on a boxing career in America.

Director Barry Levinson launched Ben Foster’s film career when he cast the then-teenage actor in a lead role in 1999’s “Liberty Heights.” More than 20 years later, when Levinson was casting his latest film “The Survivor” – the story of Harry Haft, who survived the Holocaust after being forced to fight his fellow prisoners sometimes to the death – the Oscar-winning director of “Rain Man” could really only think of one actor for the part.
“When I was reading the script, you say, ‘Well, you really need an outstanding actor to be able to pull this off. And to me, honestly, I think that Ben is one of the great actors of his generation,” Levinson tells Gold Derby in a new interview.

HBO announced today that Academy Award winner Barry Levinson’s latest film, The Survivor, starring Ben Foster, will premiere on the premium cabler on April 27 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt, in honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day)—subsequently becoming available for streaming on HBO Max.
The HBO Original is based on Alan Haft’s book, Harry Haft: Survivor of Auschwitz, Challenger of Rocky Marciano. It tells the incredible true story of Haft (Foster), who after being sent to Auschwitz, survived not only the unspeakable horrors of the camp, but the gladiatorial boxing spectacle he was forced to perform with his fellow prisoners for the amusement of his captors. Following its world premiere at Toronto, HBO Films has taken exclusive North American rights to Barry Levinson’s The Survivor about Holocaust survivor and U.S. boxer Harry Haft. Ben Foster plays Haft in the movie, which marks a reteam with his Liberty Heights writer-director Levinson. Deal was 8-figures, making it the biggest one in a subdued Toronto marketplace.
After being sent to Auschwitz, Haft survived not only the unspeakable horrors of the camp but the gladiatorial boxing spectacle he was forced to perform with his fellow prisoners for the amusement of his captors. It’s common to talk about an actor disappearing into a role by undergoing a physical transformation – at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, you could say that’s what Jessica Chastain does for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” But Ben Foster’s transformation in Barry Levinson’s “The Survivor,” which had its world premiere at TIFF on Monday, is something different — because he morphs into Holocaust survivor Harry Haft from two different directions in the same film.
In scenes set in the latter stages of Haft’s life, Foster is doughy and sluggish, only slightly recognizable as the actor we know from films like “The Messenger” and “Leave No Trace.” In scenes set during World War II, when Haft was an inmate at the Auschwitz concentration camp, he’s skeletal and sinewy, with the real Foster just as hard to see. (He lost 62 pounds for those scenes.) It...

, Barry Levinson’s “The Survivor” may be another title on the endless list of films that struggling to depict the atrocities of concentration camps, but it’s one of the few that would have been dramatically improved by not depicting them at all. Unequal parts “Raging Bull” and Peter Solan’s “The Boxer and Death” — better known by its needless American remake “The Triumph of the Spirit” — Levinson’s biopic tells the brutal story of a strapping Polish kid named Hertzko Haft (Ben Foster), who avoided the gas chambers of Jaworzno by sending dozens of other Jewish men there in his place.
By the time the Soviet Red Army swept through the area in 1945, Haft had won 76 of the life-or-death boxing matches staged for the Nazi guards’ amusement, and upon arriving in New York he naturally parlayed his gifts as a pugilist into something of a career. The war was over,...

The remarkable true story of Harry Haft is made even more pertinent by the simple fact that his story has not been the subject of a large-scale feature film — until now. It took a script from a young Australian, Justine Juel Gillmer (who also boxes), to generate interest for Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson, whose own memories as a child in an encounter with a Jewish concentration camp survivor helped spark his interest in the tale of Haft, a man who basically boxed to stay alive in Auschwitz during World War II. Imagine if you had a film with elements of both Raging Bull and Schindler’s List, but with a true story so unique it really becomes its own powerful tale of a man trying to survive the haunting memory of war experiences well beyond the war itself.

A Holocaust film that not only acknowledges moral ambiguity but is completely built around it, Barry Levinson’s The Survivor is the story of a Jew who, in order not to be killed himself, had to beat other Jews to death for the amusement of German officers. Complicated feelings seem to be the theme for this season of The 100, both for the characters and the audience.
The first half of the finale managed to explore both the calm and the story, without even really diving into the chaos that will surely begin in the second half.
"Damocles – Part One" written by Justine Juel Gillmer, was an episode that took on plenty with the way that it tackled heightening situations and still explored a bit of the characters within those scenes.
Although there was a clear accumulation to a scene that caused concern for many reasons, the episode itself was a setup for something more.
Kane and Gaia are now in situations of literal life or death situations, with their loved ones trying to figure out how to keep them alive. This is all being written against the backdrop of a literal war, with making it out...

Girls have cooties anyway, right? According to Deadline, CBS decided to pass on the "Nancy Drew" pilot starring Sarah Shahi ("Person of Interest"), because the wrong half of the population was into it. Here's how Deadline's Nellie Andreeva described the rejection:
"'Drew' is not going forward at CBS but is being shopped to other outlets by CBS TV Studios. I hear the pilot tested well but skewed too female for CBS' schedule. In the end of the day, I hear the network had no 8 Pm or 9 Pm slot available.
Written/executive produced by [Joan] Rater and [Tony] Phelan, 'Drew' stars Sarah Shahi as Nancy — now in her 30s — a detective for the NYPD where she investigates and solves crimes using her uncanny observational skills, all while navigating the complexities of life in a modern world. Anthony Edwards, Felix Solis and Rob McClure co-star in the project, also executive produced by Dan Jinks.
