Adam Driver precipitously balances himself on a ledge of a building in a first look clip from Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis. The director shared the anxiety-inducing clip from his long-brewing project on May 4, the date of his late wife Eleanor’s birthday.
“Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th,” Coppola captioned the clip in an Instagram post on Saturday. “But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.

Adam Driver is on the edge in the first official teaser for Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis.”
“Megalopolis,” which will premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, has been a project years in the making for the director, who first began work on the screenplay in the 1980s. The legendary filmmaker behind “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” has invested $120 million of his own money into the film.
When asked by GQ about the potential repercussions of self-funding such a massive endeavor, the director responded, “I couldn’t care less about the financial impact whatsoever. It means nothing to me.”
“Megalopolis” sports an all-star cast, with Driver leading the pack alongside Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. Adam Driver will be next seen headlining Francis Ford Coppola’s epic sci-fi dream project Megalopolis. The film sees an ensemble cast that includes Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, and more. Coppola recently released a teaser for the film which sees Driver stop time with a watch as he stands atop a building overlooking New York.
Coppola’s magnum opus has been in the making since the ‘80s, with the filmmaker reportedly financing the film himself by selling a part of his wine empire. While the film struggles to find a distributor, Driver’s comments on the film and his character, Cesar, have excited fans more than anything.

Adam Driver is an architect who can control time in the first-look clip for Francis Ford Coppola’s upcoming, self-funded film, Megalopolis.
In the more-than-two-minute video, Driver’s Cesar Catilina makes his way onto the edge of a skyscraper, seemingly considering jumping. As he’s about to fully step off the building, he shouts “Time stop” and the cars below him pause at his command, and he leans back onto stable footing.
The film, which will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 17, is a Roman Epic set in an imagined Modern America, according to its description.
“The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina, a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests and partisan warfare,” the logline reads. “Torn between...

A clip for one of the most anticipated films of Cannes has been unveiled this morning by writer/director Francis Ford Coppola. Opening with that famous American Zoetrope logo from the 1970s, the clip begins with Adam Driver’s character exiting a window at the top floor of a skyscraper and slowly inching towards the building’s sloped edge. As he bends to look down at the street below, then lifts a leg to step off, he loses his balance and yells, “Time stop!” The world freezes and Driver’s character is able to lean back and regain his footing before snapping time back into action. If one looks deep enough, a metaphor can be found for Coppola’s entire cinematic career within this simple two minute scene.

"Time stop!!" The French distributor Le Pacte has released the first look teaser for Megalopolis, unveiling the very first reveal of any actual footage from this intriguing new film. Megalopolis is director Francis Ford Coppola's latest ambitious project, a $100M+ project that he has been trying to make ever since he first conceived the film in 1979. The basic setup is: an architect wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating disaster. It's not actually NYC, but a giant city like NYC hence the Megalopolis title. The architect's plan is opposed by the mayor, who has other ideas for the city. It's premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival in the Main Competition in a few weeks (we'll be there!), which is why France gets to kick off the marketing. The Megalopolis ensemble cast includes Adam Driver as Caesar, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf,...

We have already talked about Francis Ford Coppola’s major return to film, the epic project Megalopolis, which has been described as a visionary work, but is nevertheless having trouble finding a distributor. The movie is facing an uphill battle as we have reported, but it seems that Coppola has decided to do some of his own marketing to convince the studios to take his film. Not long ago, we provided you with a first-look image from the movie, showing stars Adam Driver and Nathalie Emmanuel, and just today, a first teaser video focusing – once again – on Driver has been released, confirming several interesting things.
Just a brief reminder before we continue. As we have written, the story of Megalopolis is an interesting one altogether. The movie was conceived way back in 1979, while Coppola was filming Apocalypse Now, one of the greatest war movies ever made. Now, 45 years later, the movie is finally complete,...

Francis Ford Coppola has revealed the first look at Megalopolis, his self-funded sci-fi epic starring Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Talia Shire, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, Grace VanderWaal, Chloe Fineman, James Remar, D.B. A project decades in the making, Coppola financed much of the $120 million film himself. The film is set to premiere at Cannes in May, but has yet to secure a US release.

I’ve predicted Megalopolis, anticipated as it is, will have a clear dividing point: the cultural commentariat hoping to see “another film by the director of The Godfather” and those who appreciate “something that looks and sounds like a Star Wars prequel.” I am very firmly in the latter, was duly excited by the first image, and can only be pleased with the time-stopping debut teaser, arriving today via Le Pacte.
It comes with a sad addenedum. Coppola, sharing the teaser on Instagram, noted:
Megalopolis has always been a film dedicated to my dear wife Eleanor. I really had hoped to celebrate her birthday together this May 4th. But sadly that was not to be, so let me share with everyone a gift on her behalf.

Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded feature Megalopolis has revealed a first look image after landing a Cannes competition berth.
The project follows the rebuilding of a metropolis after it has fallen into decline, with two competing visions — one from the idealist architect Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), the other from corrupt Mayor Frank Cicero, played by Giancarlo Esposito — colliding.
The first official image from Megalopolis reveals Driver eyeing a rebuilding of the City of New Rome, while Nathalie Emmanuel, as Julia Cicero, the socialite daughter of Mayor Cicero, looks on. Megalopolis is structured as a Roman epic fable set in an imagined modern America.
To rebuild New Rome, Julia Cicero ultimately comes between a Cesar Catilina she falls in love with and Frank Cicero whom she remains loyal to as her father, as the two men battle with competing visions.

Though Megalopolis still doesn't have a distributor, the movie is expected to release before the end of the year, and we have a first official look at the sci-fi epic's main characters.
A lot of people were pleasantly surprised when Francis Ford Coppola's passion project came to fruition after the legendary filmmaker's previous failed attempts to get his vision off the ground, but the Godfather director announced that he had returned to the project back in 2019, and cameras started rolling in 2022.
Despite reports of some significant production issues, the movie wrapped late last year, and Vanity Fair has now shared the first official stills.
The images feature Star Wars actor Adam Driver as "an idealistic architect named Caesar, who hopes to rebuild the once great city, while Game of Thrones alum Emmanuel plays Julia Cicero, "the socialite daughter of a corrupt mayor (played by Giancarlo Esposito), and Driver’s character’s nemesis.

The ensemble cast includes Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, Chloe Fineman, Kathryn Hunter, Dustin Hoffman, D.B. Sweeney, Jason Schwartzman, Baily Ives, Grace Vanderwaal, and James Remar.
“Megalopolis” is debuting in competition at Cannes. Coppola told Vanity Fair that the long-gestating project was rewritten more than “300 times” across decades.

Francis Ford Coppola is a brand name and undoubtedly one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. And while he has provided us with a series of classic movies over his long career, he has been inactive for many years until he recently blessed us with Megalopolis, a movie that is just as ambitious as it sounds but may remain as one of the year’s biggest mysteries. We have already reported on the early reactions and struggles that the movie is facing going forward, and we are glad to confirm that Vanity Fair has blessed us with an exclusive first-look image from the movie, which shows the film’s two main actors, Adam Driver, and Nathalie Emmanuel.
If you’re not fully acquainted with it, Megalopolis is an interesting story altogether, as the movie was conceived way back in 1979, while Coppola was filming Apocalypse Now, one of the greatest war movies ever made.

Now that Francis Ford Coppola has unveiled his long-in-the-works epic Megalopolis to buyers and the industry, we’re just a few weeks away from its official premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. As he hopefully secures U.S. distribution soon, the first look has finally arrived.
Featuring Adam Driver and Nathalie Emmanuel towering above the metropolis, the first image comes courtesy from Vanity Fair, who also share a few new quotes from Coppola himself. “My first goal always is to make a film with all my heart, so I began to realize it would be about love and loyalty in every aspect of human life,” said the director. “Megalopolis echoed these sentiments, in which love was expressed in almost crystalline complexity, our planet in danger and our human family almost in an act of suicide, until becoming a very optimistic film that has faith in the human being to possess...

Sony has pushed their reboot of Karate Kid from Dec. 13 this year to May 30, 2025. This has created a bit of a backward domino effect but won’t rob the year of theatrical releases.
Backfilling Karate Kid‘s spot is Sony/Marvel’s Kraven the Hunter which goes from Aug. 30, the Labor Day weekend frame, to Dec. 13. The Aaron Taylor Johnson movie will have Imax and Plf screens. Kraven the Hunter will be the only R-rated movie during the holidays.
Added to the release calendar is the Blumhouse title They Listen, which will now go over the 4-day Labor Day weekend this year.
Debuting next summer is Legendary/Sony’s animated pic Animal Friends on Aug. 15, 2025 with the voices of Jason Momoa, Ryan Reynolds, Aubrey Plaza and Dan Levy among others.

Exclusive: Charithra Chandran, who broke out playing Edwina Sharma in Netflix’s smash regal series Bridgerton, has spoken out against an entertainment industry mentality that she feels pits people of color against each other.
Chandran, who was speaking to Deadline in the days before her debut West End play wraps, said she has “never pictured myself as a role model” but “a lot of young girls follow me on social media, so I do feel a sense of responsibility.”
Actors including Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel, Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Melissa Fumero and Aubrey Plaza have spoken out in the past about there being limited spaces for people of color in TV and movies.
To Chandran, this mentality is intentionally propagated by industry gatekeepers to pit people of color against each other. “It’s not a zero-sum game,” she said. “You’re so focused on fighting your own that you become...

No one sets out to be an object of obsession.
On Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” when Martha (Jessica Gunning) enters the pub where down-and-out comedian Donny Dunn (show creator and writer Richard Gadd) works, she is looking downcast, like she’s trying to disappear. One simple cup of tea opens her up. It’s an act of kindness (or pity), but that’s all it takes for Donny to become her new fixation. Her interest in him unfolds in a montage of colorful outfits, badly applied pink lipstick and lies. She sends him tens of thousands of emails, ranging from the randy (“myy curtains r waitinfro yu they r readyy”) to the ranting (“i just had an egg”). She follows him home and sits outside his window for hours, pretends to be a hot-shot lawyer with politicians’ names in her phone and to own a penthouse in Belsize Park. Martha...

Jenny Green stands out as one of the more mysterious yet delightful characters in the Netflix adaptation of DC Vertigo’s Dead Boy Detectives. While her role may not significantly impact the series’ canon events, her presence is nonetheless warmly welcomed, particularly as a source of comic relief and even emotion. Operating a butcher shop in Port Townsend, Jenny also serves as the landlord for the apartments where Crystal and Niko reside. She is socially awkward and often shows disinterest in others. Sporting a punk appearance adorned with numerous tattoos, Jenny’s unique persona adds an intriguing layer to the series. On an additional note, I feel Jenny’s character seems like something Aubrey Plaza would love to play.
Spoilers Ahead
How does Jenny meet Crystal?
In the first episode, Jenny Green is introduced as a punk butcher in Port Townsend. Crystal meets Jenny when she stumbles upon the butcher shop looking for a room.

Francis Ford Coppola’s risky, largely self-financed passion project Megalopolis has finally found one distributor – Le Pacte in France.
Hollywood studio reps didn’t seem massively upbeat about Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s sci-fi epic, but the $120m film has at least found a valuable backer in France.
French outlet Le Point (as picked up by World of Reel) reports that the independent company Le Pacte will put Megalopolis in the country’s cinemas, with its release scheduled for the end of September.
Le Pacte has good taste when it comes to distributing indie films on French screens; other movies it’s taken under its wing include Snowpiercer, Drive and last year’s Oscar-winning Anatomy Of A Fall.

Sundance Film Festival is heading to London again this summer and the programme is full of cinematic goodies. More below.
The days are getting lighter, the sun is shining ever so slightly more now and we’ve packed away our thickest wool jumpers, although we still need some thick socks. That must mean one thing and one thing only.
Sundance Film Festival: London is almost upon us.
Some might say summer is coming too, but we’re mostly excited for Sundance London, which has just revealed their full programme for this year’s festival. The festival brings a fine selection of films which originally premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, in Park City, Utah. The crème de la crème, so to speak.
The festival will open on 6 June with a screening of Kneecap, Rich Peppiatt’s Irish-language film and draw to a close on 9 June with Sean Wang...

Festival director Thierry Frémaux and president Iris Knobloch unveiled this year’s crop of films across the many sections, from the Competition to Un Certain Regard, during a press conference beginning at 5 a.m. Et. See the full lineup below.
The 77th edition of Cannes comes to the Côte d’Azur May 14 through 25, and a few titles were already confirmed to be in the mix. There’s Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded epic “Megalopolis,” which has already screened for a rarified few in the United States to much awe and speculation over what distributor might take on Coppola’s experimental vision. For his first feature since 2011’s “Twixt,” Coppola gathered a cast including Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, Shia Labeouf, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, and Jason Schwartzman for a sci-fi vision of a ruined NYC-like metropolis.

If I were to describe Emily Blunt’s red carpet style, I would say it’s sophisticated, polished, and feminine. She often leans toward the classics but does not hesitate to experiment with contemporary styles.
Such is the case of her recent red carpet appearance. On Friday, Blunt wore a bespoke deep royal blue Jenny Packham jumpsuit to the Berlin premiere of her latest film, The Fall Guy, at Uci Luxe Mercedes Platz.
Her co-star Ryan Gosling, director David Leitch, and producer Kelly McCormick joined her on the red carpet, but Blunt stood out in her blue and gold outfit.
