Apocalyptic thriller Left Behind stars Nicolas Cage. Its reviews were not kind. And it features perhaps the worst movie break-in ever...
Films are sometimes critically panned not because they're inherently bad, but because of the larger story surrounding them. Consider Battlefield Earth, for example: a terrible movie, sure, but its production history (not to mention its connection to the Church of Scientology) made it an easy target.
Solar Crisis, released in 1990 was an equally awful movie--and with a budget of $55 million, just as financially calamitous--but it was largely ignored while Battlefield Earth's hideousness was trumpeted from the rooftops.
Which brings us to 2014's Left Behind, a film so universally panned by critics that its Rotten Tomatoes score sits at an abysmal three percent. This places it a mere whisker above such legendarily bad films as Jaws: The Revenge and Mac and Me, and a startling 10 percent...

I read the synopsis of Left Behind aloud to a friend and at more or less the same moment we both said, “…so it’s The Leftovers?” I haven’t even seen that television programme, but knew enough about it that I could recognise personal hero Nic Cage’s latest vehicle to more than slightly recall the set up. For the uninitiated, the film asks what would happen to everyone else if the righteous were suddenly beamed out of our plane of existence, presumably ascended up to heaven. I understand that The Leftovers doesn’t directly address what has happened to those that vanished but in Left Behind we’re given a pretty clear indication that...

I’m no expert in the Book of Revelations, but I’m pretty confident in my knowledge of the end times and the dispensationalist concept of the Rapture. Basically, everyone’s favorite deity strips all of Earth’s children naked and sucks them (along with some adults for chaperon duty apparently) up into the sky leaving the rest of humanity to face years of struggle, darkness and demonic antics. That sounds bad enough, but according to the new film Left Behind it actually gets worse. It seems god also sucks up all of the fun, entertainment, sense of pacing and quality screenwriters. Rayford Steele (Nicolas Cage) is an airline pilot excited for his imminent flight to London where he’ll get to attend a U2 concert with a sexy flight attendant (Nicky Whelan), and he has no intention of letting his wife and daughter ruin the occasion. Chloe (Cassi Thomson) has returned home from college for his...

So long, suckers! What's most remarkable about Left Behind isn't that Nicolas Cage is starring in a religious-themed movie about the end of the world, nor is it that longtime stunt coordinator extraordinaire Vic Armstrong is finally directing his sophomore feature, more than 20 years after his debut effort. No, it's that everyone in the movie is so darn nice. This kind, patient attitude is perfectly expressed by Cage as airline pilot Captain Rayford Steel. When discussing his longtime marriage mate, Irene (Lea Thompson), whose recent turn toward religion has alienated him, Ray says, politely, "Well, if she's going to run off with another man, why not Jesus?" Ray is talking with his daughter Chloe Steele (Cassi Thomson), another religious skeptic, who has come home...

In an interesting move by the marketing team behind the Nicolas Cage thriller "Left Behind," a new promotional poster for the film is out on its Facebook page which includes a "pull quote" by one of the oldest critics there is - The Devil.
The poster, essentially a still from the film of panicking people along with the logo and release date, includes the quote: "Please do not bring unbelievers to this movie - Satan".
The movie deals with what happens to those left behind when 'The Rapture' suddenly takes place. Other promotional material from the film includes quotes from Christian evangelists and one from the Book of Matthew.
Stoney Lake Entertainment and Freestyle Releasing are releasing the project in cinemas this week. Chad Michael Murray, Lea Thompson and Cassi Thomson also star.

What would Nicolas Cage do? The Oscar-winning King of the Internet stars in the upcoming reboot of the "Left Behind" franchise, based on the hugely popular Christian book series interpreting the Book of Revelation. A brand new trailer shows Cage in action. Pilot Rayford Steele (another great character name for Cage's resume) must maintain order when dozens of passengers on his transatlantic flight disappear into thin air during The Rapture. Meanwhile, his daughter Chloe (Cassi Thomson) deals with the apocalypse back on Earth, and faces a crisis of faith, exclaiming "The God my mother talked about would never do something like this." Cage is actually pretty low-key here -- he doesn't scream or laugh maniacally as much as he often does -- but it's only a trailer, after all. There's also no Kirk Cameron, who starred in a trilogy of films earlier this millennium, but maybe he'll pop up in...

This is the second trailer we have to share with you today about a movie that deals with the rapture. This movie is called Left Behind, and in it Nicolas Cage faces off with the end of the world. I don't understand what Hollywood's fascination with the rapture is all of a sudden, but audiences are sure to get sick of it really fast. This movie looks pretty bad, and I don't think I'll be wasting my time watching it. What make me really sad is that these are the kinds of films that Cage has resorted to making.
Left Behind follows Rayford Steele (Cage), who is piloting a commercial airliner just hours after the Rapture when millions of people around the globe simply vanish. Thirty thousand feet over the Atlantic, Rayford is faced with a damaged plane, terrified passengers, and a desperate desire to get back to his family.

Saving planes from crash-landing is all in a day's work for Nicolas Cage's weary pilot in the first full Left Behind trailer. In the apocalyptic thriller, Cage plays the amazingly named Rayford Steele, a pilot who discovers that he and his daughter (Cassi Thomson, Switched at Birth) are among a select group of survivors who are left on Earth after much of the population mysteriously vanishes. If HBO’s The Leftovers is too grim and depressing for you, but you still need to get your apocalyptic fix, look no further than Left Behind, which essentially utilizes that show’s same premise but adds in one key ingredient: Nicolas Cage. I know what they say – fool me once, shame on you, and all that – but the dramatic first trailer for this flick, which appears already destined for the bargain bin, is surprisingly solid.
A remake of the Kirk Cameron-led film of the same name, Left Behind centers on a small group of individuals who deal with an inexplicable cataclysm in which millions of people around the world suddenly vanish. Growing up in the Southern Baptist Church, I was sure of two things. One, if I believed Jesus Christ was the Son of God and accepted him into my heart I was a Christian for life. I still adhere to this, although I believe you do have to attempt to live by the guidelines given to us in the Bible. Next, Jesus was going to take all the believers in the Second Coming and leave us sinners to suffer the reign of the Antichrist in the Tribulation if I didn't. I also believe this to be true, although I'm not making any claims to knowing when or how it will all transpire.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Baptist denominations had a series of independent films they would circulate through churches, inviting neighborhoods to view what were dubbed the Thief or Rapture series. It was obvious that they were designed...

As if we needed another movie to make us scared of flying: In the new trailer for Left Behind, passengers mysteriously disappear mid-flight as the pilot struggles to land. At least he isn’t wasted?
Left Behind, starring Nicolas Cage, is based on the bestselling book series about the chaos that erupts when the Rapture comes — and, without warning, people start to disappear . Judging by the trailer, Cage didn’t make Jesus’s shortlist.
Directed by Vic Armstrong, Left Behind also stars Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, and Nicky Whelan. Our question: Was Kirk Cameron too busy for a role?...

I can't remember when it was exactly, but a long time ago I started reading Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins' "Left Behind" series of novels focusing on events following The Rapture. I was intrigued after the first one, but I don't think I got beyond four of them (I think there are 12) before I got so bored with it all. Flat out, they just aren't very good, even for airport fiction. Already, Kirk Cameron has starred in three movies based on the series and now Nicolas Cage is taking a stab at it and today we have the first trailer and poster for the film due in theaters on October 3. Starring Cage alongside Chad Michael Murray, Jordin Sparks, Lea Thompson, Nicky Whelan and Cassi Thomson, the story centers on a small group of survivors are left behind after millions of people suddenly vanish and the world is plunged into chaos and destruction.

As we all know too well, Bavarian castles don't pay for themselves, and Nicolas Cage will sometimes say "yes" to anything. Sometimes that can lead to smart, challenging work like this summer's "Joe," a micro-budgeted indie that he would have never thought twice about when Cage was riding high in his "Con Air" heyday. But it can also lead to movies like "Left Behind," which, if the just-released teaser trailer is any indication, might be our most ironically anticipated film of 2014 (sorry, "Sharknado 2").
"Left Behind" is based on a series of best-selling evangelical books by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, which began in 1995, that dramatize what the world would look like following the rapture. The series had been adapted once before, with 2000's Kirk Cameron-starring "Left Behind: The Movie."

Left Behind, starring Nicolas Cage, does not get a poster that does it too many favours...

Nicolas Cage may have a back catalogue of movies we can but look at enviously, but of late it's hard to think of an actor who's fallen victim so much to bad Photoshop work on his film posters. Up until the poster for his next film, Left Behind, the worst Adobe Cage poster had arguably been this one for Stolen...
In truth, that may still be the winner too. But take a look at this beauty for the aforementioned Left Behind, which arrives in Us cinemas this October.
The movie co-stars the equally badly Photoshopped Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan and Jordin Sparks, with legendary stuntman Vic Armstrong directing. More on the movie as we hear it...

Previously titled Tokarev, and released under that name in some international territories, Nicolas Cage’s latest action-crime-thriller, Rage, will be released via VOD next month, ahead of a theatrical release stateside in July.
With just over a month before it lands digitally, Yahoo Movies has debuted the first Us trailer and poster. Cage is of course very well-versed in a genre like this, and remains amongst the most prolific within it.
When the Russian mob kidnaps the daughter of a reformed criminal, he rounds up his old crew and seeks his own brand of justice.
Starring alongside Cage will be Rachel Nichols, Max Ryan, Michael McGrady, Peter Stormare, Pasha D. Lychnikoff, Patrice Cols, Weston Cage, Max Fowler, Aubrey Peeples, and Jack Falahee, with Danny Glover also making an appearance.
Spanish helmer Paco Cabezas (The Appeared) is said to have been sought by Cage to take the director’s chair, with...

Switched at Birth recap: “The Ambush” This season of ABC Family’s Switched at Birth has us asking so many questions after every episode so far, hopefully this week’s episode can answer some of them! Last week was the first time in a while that we had heard from Toby’s (Lucas Grabeel) wife Nikki (Cassi Thomson) when she talked to him over webcam about leaving his life there to come live with her. This surprising request from her left Toby with no idea what to do – and us fans wondering what is going to happen to Toby and Nikki. At … Continue reading →

Even after those official "Left Behind" posters featuring Nicolas Cage came out, admit it, you kind of thought you were getting punked.
Wrong! It's no joke. And as proof, the official "Left Behind" movie page released a short clip in which Cage's character, a pilot named Rayford Steele (of course that's his name), has a conversation with his daughter about his split from her mother after the latter found religion.
"But hey, if she's going to run off with another man, why not Jesus?" he says in that weary, Nic Cage-y way.
This seems to take place before Steele embarks on a transatlantic flight, during which passengers mysteriously disappear from their seats. The same thing occurs all over the world as the Rapture takes place.
"Left Behind" also stars Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Nicky Whelan, Lea Thompson, and Jordin Sparks, and opens in theaters sometime later this year. Post...

Switched at Birth recap: Season 3 premiere By Aleina McGettrick The season premiere of ABC Family‘s Switched at Birth, called “Drowning Girl,” opened with a bang. At the end of the last season we were left wondering how the lives of each of the characters would be changed after all of the events they went through in the previous episodes of the show. Let’s start with toby (Lucas Grabeel) and his controversial marriage to Nikki (Cassi Thomson). After a few of the episodes in the last season we could tell that Toby’s family had mixed feelings about the marriage, especially … Continue reading →

Did you watch "Grave Halloween" as part of Syfy's 31 Days of Halloween celebration?
It features Maiko (Kaitlyn Leeb), a young girl studying in Japan who puts own life at risk to help the spirit of her dead mother, who took her own in life in a place known as the "Suicide Forest." It also starred Cassi Thomson as Amber, one of Maiko's friends, who was nearly unrecognizable from her days on "Big Love" as Cara Lynn.

It was pretty creepy, especially for Syfy fare -- usually their "horror" movies involve, you know, piranhacondas or sharknados.

Who will stand with Nicolas Cage as the world comes to an end? Turns out Lea Thompson. THR reveals the Back to the Future star has signed on to play Cage.s wife in the in-production reboot of the Rapture-centered drama Left Behind. Thompson joins a cast that also includes One Tree Hill star Chad Michael Murray, Big Love.s Cassi Thomson, Hall Pass.s Nicky Whelan, The Blind Side.s Quinton Aaron, and pop star Jordin Sparks. Between Seth Rogen.s This is The End, to Simon Pegg.s The World.s End, and lesser-known laffers like the sharp satire It.s a Disaster and the forgettable Anna Kendrick vehicle Rapture-Palooza, comedians have had their fun with the end of days, but stunt man turned director Vic Armstrong is taking this topic seriously with his adaptation of the wildly popular book series of Jerry B. Hope you’re ready for another apocalyptic thriller, ’cause Vic Armstrong‘s upcoming Left Behind (currently in production) definitely looks promising. 'Switched at Birth' Season 2 summer finale: Do Toby and Nikki tie the knot in 'Departure of Summer'?
Heading into the Season 2 finale of "Switched at Birth" on Monday (Aug. 19), who knew that the most pressing issue needing resolution during these summer episodes would be whether Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Nikki (Cassi Thomson) actually made it down the aisle?
Sure, the ABC Family hit was juggling quite a few balls leading into this finale. There was the ever-escalating saga with Daphne (Katie Leclerc) and her blackmail of Senator Coto and Bay's (Vanessa Marano) impending separation from Ty (Blair Redford) with his redeployment, but the entire season came together with this wedding.
Picking up tonight at the rehearsal dinner, it's clear that Kathryn (Lea Thompson) and John (D.W. Moffett), along with Nikki's mom Jenice (guest star Joey Lauren Adams), are hoping to find an opportunity to speak to their children and express their concerns over the rushed nature of these nuptials. Only they never get the chance.

Sure, Sunday tends to be overcrowded with high-end TV, including "Breaking Bad," "The Newsroom," "Low Winter Sun," "Dexter," "Ray Donovan" and more, but what to watch the rest of the time? Every Monday, we bring you five noteworthy highlights from the other six days of the week. "Switched at Birth": Summer Finale Monday, August 19 at 8pm on ABC Family "Switched at Birth" is one of ABC Family's most staunchly progressive, but still immensely watchable, dramas (though new addition "The Fosters" may have it beat on the former front). The series, which features multiple deaf characters played by deaf and hard-of-hearing actors, closes out its second season tonight with an episode that promises drama on multiple fronts, from Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Nikki's (Cassi Thomson) wedding preparations to Ty's (Blair Redford) redeployment overseas. The show has been renewed for a third season, to premiere in January. "Pov": "The Law in These Parts" Monday,...

It appears to be time to rework that teaser one-sheet and scrub out one of those credits. Due to scheduling conflicts actress Ashley Tisdale has had to be replaced on the new Vic Armstrong helmed project 'Left Behind' and the role of Chloe Steele has been handed over to 'Switched and Birth' and 'Big Love' star Cassi Thomson (below). Thomson plays the daughter of Nicolas Cage's character Raymond in the re-adaptation of the post-apocalyptic novel from Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim Lahaye where a father and daughter find theirselves left behind on Earth as Christ takes the faithful with him to protect them from the upcoming apocalyptic battle. If you would have told me that the studio remake of Left Behind would only see one minor problem by the time it began its production, I would have at first been skeptical, and then assumed it had something to do with Nic Cage. But it turns out that it involves another cast member - Ashley Tisdale. Variety reports that the actress connection with the film has ended and that she has been quickly replaced by Cassi Thomson, best known for her work on HBO.s Big Love. There.s no reason given for Tisdale.s sudden split, but I.m not even going to speculate, as speculation might end up screwing me over when the End of Days hits.
