Horror legend Clive Barker brings Bloody Disgusting some good news and some bad news this morning. The bad news? His days of appearing at horror conventions are coming to an end. The good news? He’s diving headfirst into More Writing in the coming months and years!
Here’s the official statement from Clive Barker himself…
My dear friends,
For the last almost forty years, I’ve been visiting conventions in cities in Europe and America to talk with my supporters, signing books, movie posters, Pinhead (A.K.A. The Hell Priest) models, and countless precious keepsakes which you’ve brought for me to sign. The most precious? The arms, legs, and other body parts, that brave souls have asked me to sign to later be tattooed over. What an honour!
However, it’s time to focus entirely on writing. I’m not stopping public events because I’ve lost...

Back in 2021, it was revealed that the legendary George A. Romero (who passed away in 2017) had left behind a treatment for the “seventh and final installment” in his Dead franchise – following Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, and Survival of the Dead. The story Romero had come up with used a title than many fans expected him to use for his follow-up to Day, Twilight of the Dead, and the team of Joe Knetter, Robert Lucas, and Paolo Zelati, who also worked on the treatment with Romero, were working on fleshing it out into a screenplay. Last month, we heard that Twilight of the Dead had secured funding from Roundtable Entertainment. And now we know who’s going to direct the film: Session 9 director Brad Anderson!

Before he passed away in 2017, horror master George A. Romero had been developing one final zombie movie titled Twilight of the Dead, which has shown brief signs of life here and there over the years. The film is finally coming to life, The Hollywood Reporter lets us know this morning, with Brad Anderson on board to direct!
“Shooting is expected to start later this year,” THR notes in their exclusive report.
“George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead may have been the first real horror movie I ever saw and its shock value, its keen social relevance, and even the means by which it was made were all hugely inspirational to me,” said Anderson. “This too is a zombie movie in which limbs fly and heads roll, but one that is also about social transformation, one that asks the question: What is it to be human? A young woman with a short crop carefully touches up her blonde dye job in the arresting opening moments of Blue Jean, painting the goop on her hair with practiced efficiency to the shimmering notes of Chris Roe’s score. Stepping from the bathroom into the living room of her drab flat, she settles on the couch to watch Blind Date, described by raucous host Cilla Black as “The show that tries to find a boy and a girl that go together like birds of a feather.” That might sound exclusionist or even like a microaggression to some more politically inclined queer viewers. To Jean, it’s just pleasurable fluff.
The scene subtly foreshadows an internal conflict played out with sensitive insightfulness and dramatic tension in writer-director Georgia Oakley’s highly assured debut feature and in a transfixing performance awash in mostly suppressed feeling from Rosy McEwen in her first leading role.

With the local fishing industry in decline, the townspeople where Oscar and Evelyn now live become fiercely divided as to whether or not to stake their futures on building a luxury hotel – which will surely bring in new jobs — or fight to keep things the way they have been there for generations.

Editor’s note: Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series debuts and celebrates the scripts of films factoring in this year’s movie awards races.
For her debut feature, filmmaker Georgia Oakley returns to 1980s Britain as Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government has introduced Section 28, a clause of the Local Government Act that seeks to prohibit “the promotion of homosexuality” by local authorities across the United Kingdom.
At the time, protests were rife, but many gay women and men felt compelled to keep their sexuality a secret.
Blue Jean, written and directed by Oakley, follows Jean, a school gym teacher who keeps her sexuality a secret from her colleagues. The threat is immediate and real: if exposed, her love life could cost her her job. However, Jean finds little sympathy from her girlfriend, Viv. Out and proud, Viv is part of a cooperative of similarly assertive lesbian women. Viv regards...

Kevin Lewis will follow up “Willy’s Wonderland” by directing “The Accursed,” a new horror movie about demonic possession that its creators predict will be like if “Sam Raimi and Dario Argento had a love child and James Wan was its uncle.”
Mena Suvari (“American Beauty”), Sarah Grey (Netflix’s “The Order” and DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow”), and Alexis Knapp (“Pitch Perfect” franchise) head up the cast, which also includes Meg Foster (“The Lords of Salem”) and Sarah Dumont (“Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse”). “Willy’s Wonderland,” an action-comedy horror film, became a pandemic era favorite when it was released on VOD and in limited theatrical release last February.
Rob Kennedy (“Midnight Man”) penned the screenplay for “The Accursed.” According to the official description, it centers on a young woman who faces a horrifying past. When her estranged mother dies by suicide, Elly (Grey) is forced to return home from volunteering as a nurse abroad.

Before George A. Romero passed away in 2017, the legendary filmmaker was working on a novel — his first — called The Living Dead.
Conceived as an epic reboot/reinvention of the zombie horror genre he defined with his landmark 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, the book was set to encompass the entire world of Romero’s six Dead movies — including classics like Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead — while giving him the kind of free creative reign he never quite enjoyed with his films.
But we sadly lost Romero at the age of 77 three years ago, and The Living Dead — which he had been writing on and off for several years — was left uncompleted. Enter novelist Daniel Kraus (who co-wrote The Shape of Water with Guillermo del Toro), who with the encouragement and assistance of Romero’s widow Suzanne Desrocher-Romero and his agent, Chris Roe, took on the...

Cemetery Tales: A Tale of Two Sisters, which will be honored as the Best Short Thriller at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival, may have sinister shadings on the screen but off screen it has a sentimental legacy that traces back to the late George A. Romero.
Cemetery Tales: A Tale of Two Sisters, which premiered last fall at Spain’s Sitges Film Festival, is the directorial debut of Chris Roe, well-known in industry circles for his namesake company Chris Roe Management, and for his clients, which include Malcolm McDowell, Bruce Davison and the late Romero, the revered horror filmmaker who single-handedly created the modern-era zombie genre with his 1968 indie classic Night of the Living Dead.

Malcolm McDowell has been tapped to play News Corp Chairman Rupert Murdoch in Annapurna’s upcoming drama about disgraced former Fox News chief Roger Ailes and the women who brought him down.
The veteran actor joins a cast of A-list talent that includes Nicole Kidman, John Lithgow, Kate McKinnon, Margot Robbie, and Charlize Theron. The film is written by Academy-Award winner Charles Randolph (“The Big Short”) and is directed by Jay Roach (“Trumbo”).
The currently untitled movie focuses on Ailes’ downfall, zeroing in on a group of female employees who bucked the culture of sexism at the network to oust the news baron from power. Kidman will play Gretchen Carlson, the Fox News anchor who sued Ailes for harassment in July 2016, and Theron will portray Megyn Kelly, a star at the network whose decision to go public with her own story of abuse was seen as a key turning point.

Pioneering director George Romero died on Sunday, at the age of 77, after a battle with lung cancer.
His manager Chris Roe tells Et in a statement, "Legendary filmmaker George A. Romero passed away on Sunday July 16, listening to the score of 'The Quiet Man,' one of his all-time favorite films, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero at his side. He died peacefully in his sleep, following a brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer, and leaves behind a loving family, many friends, and a filmmaking legacy that has endured, and will continue to endure, the test of time.'
In 1968, his revolutionary film Night of the Living Dead single-handedly launched the zombie film genre. Shot in black and white, it focuses on a group of people trapped in farmhouse as the undead begin wandering the earth. The film is notable for its gory special effects and featuring an African-American protagonist, a rarity...

Legendary thespian Malcolm McDowell will again be in the middle of another creepy tale when The Employer is released next month by First Look Pictures. McDowell sat down with Dread Central to talk about the film and some other current projects.
Although The Employer is not a dyed-in-the-wool horror film, more of a genre-bender according to the actor, it certainly will entertain audiences with a chilling story. "It's not an out and out horror film per se," McDowell said. "Sort of a psychological thriller/horror. It's a little bit fuzzy as to what genre it is. But it's a fun piece. We did it on a very modest budget. I liked the script. It's definitely a character-driven piece, and our director, Frank Merle, did a great job. It's a fun ride."
And speaking on the director, McDowell continued with the accolades. "This is his first feature film, but it certainly won't be his last,...

With vast experience on stage and screen (big and small), Eileen Dietz' career has woven a path in-and-out of the horror genre. While horror fans will no doubt associate the actress with her role as the face of evil in William Friedkin's Oscar-winning 1973 film The Exorcist, Dietz has many stories to tell. Fangoria's Australian correspondent Lee Gambin recently sat down for a one-on-one interview to discuss her career and craft.
Lee Gambin/Fangoria: What were some of your very first jobs in the entertainment industry, as I understand you started super young and how did the Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre School benefit you as a young actress?
Eileen Dietz: I worked at a Summer Stock company in Kalamazoo Michigan. It was a very bad place and the director of the theatre only brought me up there to rob me of my innocence if you know what I mean.
