Walker will turn in his badge at The CW.
The network has canceled the Jared Padalecki-led Walker after four seasons. The show will finish out its run on The CW, ending with what will now be a series finale on June 26.
“We want to thank the entire cast, crew, writers, directors and producers of Walker for their hard work and dedication over four incredible seasons,” the network said in a statement. “We also want to give a special thanks to star and executive producer Jared Padalecki, who has been a member of The CW family for over 20 years and was integral to some of the biggest hits on the network.”

The future is not looking bright for two of The CW’s final holdouts.
TVLine has learned that neither Walker nor All American: Homecoming are expected to return next season. The fate of All American — The CW’s top-rated, third-most watched drama — meanwhile, remains up in the air.

Jared Padalecki’s Cordell Walker may be riding off into the proverbial sunset. Upfront week, during which the CW unveiled its fall 2024-25 schedule, came and went without decisions on the network’s legacy drama series, including flagships All American and Walker.
As a result, Walker has started breaking down the sets in Austin, TX. The crew was informed of the decision on Friday, a day after the CW schedule reveal, sources tell Deadline. The dismantling is already in full force, with crew members taking other jobs.
While the move is not permanent — If a renewal ultimately comes, the sets can be put up, with producer CBS Studios saving money on stage rental in the interim — it illustrates how close to a cancellation Walker is.

Despite not being connected to the larger Arrowverse, ‘Superman & Lois’ is easily the best CW superhero show in terms of quality writing. The show did have its ups and downs, especially last year.
After Nexstar acquired CW and the network was bound to be restructured, ‘Superman & Lois’ survived the onslaught during which many shows were canceled. This led to some of the main cast being let go, fewer writers, and the episode count was slashed compared to previous seasons. Now after several months of filming the last season of ‘Superman & Lois’ has wrapped filming, ready for the Fall 2024 release date.
Now a few months before the show is about to air, The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz has nothing but words of praise for the final season of the popular superhero show. Even though it’s not part of the larger Arrowverse, ‘Superman & Lois’ stands out as the CW’s top superhero show, boasting high-quality writing. While it faced challenges, especially last year, the series managed to survive Nexstar’s acquisition of CW, which led to restructuring and numerous cancellations across the network.
This resulted in some main cast members being released, fewer writers onboard, and a reduced episode count compared to past seasons. Now, after several months of filming, production on the final season of ‘Superman & Lois’ has concluded, gearing up for its Fall 2024 release.
Just ahead of its anticipated airing, Brad Schwartz, The CW’s President of Entertainment, is full of praise for the upcoming final season of the beloved superhero series. In an interview with TVLine, he highlighted that this season stands alone, offering a self-contained storyline that can be enjoyed even without prior knowledge of the show’s past seasons.

CW President Dennis Miller acknowledges the revamped network must still “prove ourselves” to local affiliates, which are still “absorbing” the amount of change.
Speaking to Deadline on Thursday morning, just prior to the annual upfronts-week meeting of the affiliates, Miller said the overall base is still “absorbing” the network’s transformation. Upon closing its deal in October 2022 to acquire 75% of the network, Nexstar Media Group signaled a big-time makeover. Gone are most of the pricey scripted originals largely financed by former 50-50 partners CBS and Warner Bros. (whose parent companies still have 12.5% stakes in The CW). In their place has come live sports programming and more cost-conscious and less-youth-skewing fare.

The CW announced its fall lineup Thursday, with the return of Superman & Lois, two new game shows based on classic board games and the new scripted entry Joan, a limited series starring Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner, among others.
The lineup comes after Nexstar’s acquisition of the network in 2022, and amid a new focus of becoming profitable and reaching a broader audience. That, in turn, has led to fewer U.S.-produced scripted dramas and a need to be scrappy and cost-conscious, as the linear audience declines and many other broadcast networks, including The CW, are seeing the need to slash budgets.
In light of this, The CW has also leaned into the acquisition of secondary sports rights, game shows and new shows in which the network owns all rights worldwide and therefore can profit off of the programs on streaming, unlike with its legacy shows All American...

The CW is looking to keep acquiring sports rights and is eyeing an expansion on Sundays as well as potential team-ups with other rights holders, President Dennis Miller said in an interview with Deadline.

It’s been less than two years since the close of Nexstar’s acquisition of The CW and the network’s primetime slate could not look more different.
In addition to the broadcaster’s shifted focus to sports, unscripted fare and foreign imports/co-productions, The CW will soon be getting into the original TV movie business. In an interview with Variety, network president Dennis Miller and president of entertainment Brad Schwartz revealed that The CW is planning to air its own slate of films (in addition to acquired features) on Sunday nights beginning later this year.
The network already has a Sunday night movie block, which will continue in the fall according to the network’s newly-released fall 2024 schedule. But in addition to airing well-known studio movies, they will be producing movies of their own — as many as ten. The network is prepping a deal with an unnamed TV movie...

The CW will be taking a long, hard look at whether it will air the Miss USA Pageant and Miss Teen USA Pageant in August following controversy at the organization.
Earlier this month, Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt and Miss Teen USA 2023 UmaSofia Srivastava resigned from their positions, accusing the organizers of abuse and bullying.
Voigt said that she relinquished her crown, publicly stating that she wanted to prioritize her mental well-being, calling the organization a “toxic work environment” in a resignation letter obtained by the New York Times that “at best, is poor management and, at worst, is bullying and harassment”.
Last month, The CW struck an exclusive, three-year deal to keep both events on its schedule after Miss USA became its number new special of the year with viewership peaking at over 1.1M, per Nielsen.

Look through The CW‘s newly announced schedule for the Fall 2024-2025 season and you’ll notice that Walker and All American are missing from the lineup. Does this mean the series are canceled? The CW bosses Dennis Miller and Brad Schwartz addressed the shows’ notable omissions. Walker and All American are two of The CW’s most successful shows and some of the only titles to survive the massive programming overhaul the network carried out in recent years. Miller and Schwartz said on May 16, the day of The CW’s upfront presentation during which the network provides programming updates, that decisions about the fate of Walker and All American will be made “soon.” “We didn’t feel any need to rush to meet some Upfront deadline,” Schwartz, the President of Entertainment at The CW, told Deadline. “All American is on the air right now, so we’re seeing how that does.

Canadian procedural Wild Cards has been one of The CW’s stronger performers over the last twelve months.
It was somewhat surprising, then, that the show which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, hasn’t been quickly snapped up for a second season.
The CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz told Deadline in February that the network was in conversations with Blink49 Studios about more episodes coming to the network.
Those talks are still ongoing, but the suggestion is very much that it will continue on The CW.
“You’ll probably be hearing more announcements from us very soon,” he told Deadline this morning. “That show did great. It grew 10% versus what The Flash did in the same spot the year before. So, here we are beating shows that everyone’s very romantic about. We’d very much like to renew that one.

It's been nearly a year since we last saw the Man of Steel on our screens, but The CW has confirmed today that Superman & Lois returns for its fourth and final season this fall.
The show will be part of the network's 2024 - 2025 schedule and is one of only a handful of scripted series set to air over that period (a result of Nexstar acquiring The CW and moving away from pricey dramas).
While we don't have a specific premiere date, we can confirm Superman & Lois is moving from Tuesday nights to Thursday nights. That's quite a departure seeing as its first three seasons aired on a Tuesday, but the reason for the change is The CW's acquisition of WWE Nxt.
That takes a two-hour timeslot on Tuesdays, leaving no room for the iconic DC Comics character.

Fifth in a series on broadcast network series renewals. As the CW transformation’s under new owners Nexstar continues with the addition of sports as well as acquired scripted series and international co-productions, questions are persisting about the fate of the last remaining dramas from the “old” CW.
With Superman & Lois set to end with its upcoming fourth season in the fall, that leaves flagship All American, spinoff All American: Homecoming and Walker. They all film in the U.S., making them more expensive to produce than Canadian-made dramas and come from former CW co-owners (now minority owners) Warner Bros. From what I hear, it would be a very challenging business proposition to have all three series continue on the CW. The sobering realization defers from the brighter outlook shared by the CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz at TCA in February.

Exclusive: The 2025 Critics Choice Awards will not be airing exclusively on the CW. The broadcast network has opted not to renew the awards show’s current option for next year, sources tell Deadline. However, it is still possible to see the ceremony on the CW in 2025 as the network is looking for a path to continue to carry it, shared with another network or a streamer, I hear. Many DC-based projects are currently in development. While attention is often on James Gunn’s Dcu and his upcoming ‘Creature Commandos’ and ‘Superman,’ we shouldn’t overlook the Elseworlds series, which includes ‘The Batman’ film series and other upcoming projects.
Before the Dceu officially became the Dcu, J.J. Abrams was collaborating with Ta-Nehisi Coates on a black-led Superman movie. Despite not hearing much about the movie for a while, a fan asked Gunn on Threads if it was still in active development, and Gunn confirmed that it was.

There are plenty of DC-based projects currently in development, and while all eyes are on Gunn’s Dcu and his upcoming ‘Creature Commandos’ & ‘Superman’ we occasionally forget that Elseworlds, which ‘The Batman’ film series and several other upcoming projects are a part of, are doing their own thing.
Before the Dceu was officially rebooted into the Dcu, J.J. Abrams was working on a black-led Superman movie along with Ta-Nehisi Coates. It’s official. There will be no JJ Parker in Season 6 of CW’s All American. Hunter Clowdus, who has been with the series since its launch, has exited ahead of the upcoming season.
Clowdus joined as a recurring actor in Season 1 and was upped to series regular in Season 4. JJ Parker was an outside linebacker turned quarterback for the Beverly Hills Eagles, who shined as a star both on and off the field.
Deadline hears that JJ’s storyline had “organically wrapped” at the end of Season 5, explaining Clowdus’ departure from the series.
Last month, the cast teased some of what to expect from the show’s upcoming sixth season. Read more here.

The CW show, based on the DC characters, is the final comic series left on the network and is set to premiere it’s final episodes later this year.
While the show is returning, it was revealed that budget cuts were being made, causing changes to the cast, including several stars being demoted from series regular.
In February 2024, president of entertainment at The CW, Brad Schwartz, teased that the upcoming season is “going to blow your minds.”

The series comes from writer John Quaintance (Will & Grace) and marks the latest international co-production for Stan, the CW and Roku, all of which have identified the model as core to their strategies.

There have been countless iterations of Superman in the world of multimedia, all trying to showcase a different perspective and take on the superhero. One of the biggest and most unique among the several properties in which this character is an integral part has to be CW’s Superman and Lois TV series.
Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch in a still from Superman and Lois
Instead of focusing on the extraordinary exploits of the Symbol of Hope, this series focuses more on the personal life of the individual as Clark Kent rather than Superman, which was the reason why many liked the show so much. Although the ratings weren’t something to brag about, they were still respectable enough to not let the show be canceled like it has. And with that, it’s revealed that WB had made this decision because of the upcoming Superman in the Dcu.

Ever since James Gunn was crowned one of the two CEOs and handed over the reins of the DC Universe, everything seems to be changing and going in a completely unexpected direction than what fans were expecting.
While the Guardians of the Galaxy saga helmer is working on his next DC film that would kickstart his DC Universe reboot, Superman: Legacy, other masterpieces are reportedly getting axed as a consequence of the same.

Well, it seems that the Dcu is indeed playing some kind of game that the people do not like at all. With Superman and Lois being two integral characters of cinematic storytelling, it comes naturally that the two characters will indeed be seen in James Gunn’s upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
But to cancel a pre-existing CW series by the name of Superman and Lois so that there’s no confusion for the people… is quite a dumb move. Well, that’s exactly what Warner Bros. did before the release of Superman: Legacy!

The end of ‘Superman & Lois’ with its fourth season comes as a bit of a shocker. The CW’s decision to wrap up the show is linked to the new direction DC Universe is taking under James Gunn, especially with the upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy’. The scoop comes from The Wrap, where The CW’s entertainment chief, Brad Schwartz, shared insights. He mentioned Warner Bros.’s strategy to avoid having competing Superman narratives in the market.
It’s a bummer for fans who’ve followed the Lane-Kent family saga. The show had to let go of seven main characters and cut down to just ten episodes for its final season due to budget constraints. This makes it the shortest season in the series’ run. With Nexstar taking over The CW and shifting the network’s focus, it seemed like ‘Superman & Lois’ was already on thin ice.

The CW is spicing up its lineup with an exciting twist on the classic Sherlock Holmes saga. They’re rolling out ‘Sherlock & Daughter,’ a fresh take that pairs the iconic detective with an unexpected partner – his possible daughter. David Thewlis steps into Sherlock’s shoes, while Blu Hunt plays Amelia, the young American who might just be his offspring. After the mysterious murder of her mother, Amelia discovers her father could be the legendary sleuth himself. Together, they dive into a whirlwind of global conspiracies and personal mysteries.
According to Deadline, the series is not just about crime-solving. It’s about the dynamic between two very different characters thrown together by fate. Dougray Scott adds to the excitement as Moriarty, Holmes’ arch-nemesis, ensures the stakes are always high. ‘Sherlock & Daughter’ isn’t your typical detective show; it’s about family, mystery, and the clash of cultures.

It seems that the decision to cancel Superman & Lois after its fourth season was influenced by James Gunn’s DC Universe, particularly Superman: Legacy. Wild Cards, a Canadian police procedural, has become a surprise hit for The CW.
The series, which stars Grey’s Anatomy’s Giacomo Gianniotti, Riverdale’s Vanessa Morgan and Jason Priestley, launched in January.
It has been averaging over 500,000 in the live overnights, per Nielsen, which The CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz says will likely go to around 1M over the first seven days.
This is what constitutes a hit for the network. “That’s a nice success for us. If we can do seven nights a week with a million viewers, that would be goal number one, then two million,” he told Deadline.

Big news for fans of All American and Walker!
The CW announced its spring slate of shows today, and both series will be returning to our screens sooner than expected.
All American is the CW's most-watched show, so it was no surprise that the announcement began with an update on the network's popular football drama.
The saga of star wide receiver Spencer James is set to return for its sixth season on April 1.
Today's announcement did not provide any details about the new season's plot, but it did confirm All American's status as the network’s #1 series among Adults 18-49, the most watched series on digital, and had the largest total audience across all platforms.
So yeah, execs might be even more excited about the return of All American than the show's fans are.

“We’re ready for people to stop writing about the Big Four networks and start writing the Big Five,” announced Brad Schwartz, The CW’s president of entertainment, at the top of a Thursday morning meeting with TV press.
It’s an obvious aspiration for broadcast’s long-suffering stepchild, but the timing is a bit odd. The cachet of the “Big Four” — ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC — diminishes more and more each year, rendering the term more of a nostalgic catchphrase than an accurate representation of the true TV power brokers in the age of streaming saturation. Still, growth and a diversified (and, often, less expensive) programming portfolio is exactly what Nexstar Media Group has pursued after completing its acquisition of The CW in 2022. That’s involved a big gamble of the Saudi-backed Liv Golf league, canceling all but four scripted series in the inherited CW slate and banking big on acquisitions.

The CW met the Television Critics Assn. for the first time since its ownership and brand makeover — and both president Dennis Miller and entertainment president Brad Schwartz came armed with a message: The CW wants to be considered a “Big 5” network, right alongside ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.
“We have ambitious goals, but we recognize where we’re coming from,” Schwartz said. “We’re the underdog competing against titans. But ultimately what we are striving for is to have everyone stop writing ‘Big 4 networks’ and start writing ‘Big 5.’ We know it’s gonna take some time, but that’s the goal.”
It will be a challenge, given we’re now in an era where even the traditional “Big 4” networks aren’t so sure they want to be in that business anymore. But now operated by station group owner Nexstar and focused on expanding its scope (not to mention trying to...

The CW is starting to give a glimpse at its upcoming scripted slate beyond the spring.
Earlier today, the network announced spring premiere dates for All American, Walker and more. During the Television Critics Association panel, The CW President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz indicated where the network is placing its two other major scripted shows this year.

All American: Homecoming Season 3 likely will debut in the summer, as Schwartz said the show is “finally getting to a place where it can stand on its own” without a lead-in from the flagship series — which is how the first two seasons operated.
Schwartz said that the plan is for the abbreviated 13-episode season of All American will move directly into 13 episodes of Homecoming.

The cast also includes Dougray Scott as Holmes’ nemesis, Moriarty.
Brendan Foley created “Sherlock & Daughter” while James Duff showruns. They both executive produce alongside Karine Martin, Chris Philip, Peter Gerwe, Dominic Barlow, Ivan Dunleavy and Escapade Media. Micah War Dog Wright and Shelly Goldstein both serve as writiners.
