Oscilloscope Laboratories has snapped up U.S. rights to God & Country: The Rise of Christian Nationalism, a new documentary produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rob Reiner (A Few Good Men). Featuring prominent faith leaders who shine a light on the dangerous implications of this growing movement, it’s slated for release in early 2024.
The film directed by five-time Emmy nominee Dan Partland (Intervention) looks at the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only our constitutional republic, but Christianity itself. Featuring numerous prominent Christian thought leaders, the question it asks is, what happens when a faith built on love, sacrifice, and forgiveness grows political tentacles, conflating power, money, and belief into hyper-nationalism?
In addition to the always politically active and socially conscious Rob Reiner, producers included Michele Reiner, Steve Okin, and Jeff Okin. Among those offering expert commentary in the doc are political commentator and author David French; VeggieTales...

Universal Pictures is developing a live-action film version of the iconic children’s TV show “Wishbone” alongside toymaker Mattel, the two announced on Wednesday.
The TV show, which ran on PBS from 1996 through 2001, followed Wishbone, a Jack Russell terrier, who would daydream about being in some of the most famous and cherished literary moments that often mirrored his family’s real-life situations. Mattel’s film division, which got off the ground in 2018, is rebooting “Wishbone” into a modern, four-quadrant comedy.
Roy Parker, writer of The Blacklist’s screenplay “This House is Not for Sale,” will write the script.
“Our deep library of iconic franchises continues to offer cinematic storytelling opportunities,” executive producer and head of Mattel Films Robbie Brenner said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be working with Peter Farrelly, Roy Parker and Universal to take the beloved dog classic into a new direction with a modern reimagination of the franchise.

Kahli Small, a veteran film executive who worked on “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Milk,” died on Sunday. She was 53.
Small joined Focus Features as a production exec in 2004 and contributed to the production of several films, including “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” “Milk” and “Eastern Promises.” She also worked on “Sin Nombre” and advocated strongly for then-first-time filmmaker Cary Joji Fukunaga. She later joined the production company Gk Films as executive vice president of production and development, and was involved in the development of the Oscar-winning movie “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Like many independent film executives, she later moved into television, becoming senior vice president of drama development at NBC and later an executive vice president at the network.
“This is heartbreaking. Kahli Small was first and foremost a filmmaker’s executive,” Focus Features CEO James Schamus, co-founder David Linde and former president John Lyons said. “For Kahli, a project was only...

Looks like Megan Fox is trying to star in every movie ever made for the next five years or so. Or at least it seems that way. The “Transformers” star has signed on for yet another starring role, this time in the thriller “The Crossing”, which will see the foxy Fox playing a wife whose husband is abducted by Mexican bad guys who then forces her to smuggle heroin into the States in order to free him. She does as she’s told, but comes back with a shotgun and kills them all. Okay, maybe not so much the last part, but possibly something Ellen Ripley-ish like that happens at the end of the movie. Or maybe not. THR says the script is by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi, and Jeff Okin will produce the thriller for Screen Gems pictures. Quotes the studio people about Fox’s casting: The...

Overture continues its aggressive pace of project pickups, acquiring the pitch "Parent Class" from writers Toni Kotite and Marty Scott.
The project, which James Gibb brought to the studio and will produce, revolves around a
divorced couple who are deemed unsatisfactory parents and must enroll in a class on how to improve their child-rearing skills. Gibb, who conceived of the story, based it on a real-life class he attended.
Overture has scooped up several pitches or specs this month, last week nabbing the Stephen Karam play "Speech & Debate" and the Irwin Winkler-produced home-invasion drama "Taken". The company is seeking to populate a 2009 slate, a roster already anchored by Michael Moore's follow-up to "Farenheit 9/11."
Kotite and Scott have a number of projects in development, including "Soccer Mom" and "Briggs Ballet" at New Line. Pair are repped by APA, Jeff Okin at Anonymous Content and attorney Dave Feldman. Sean Furst will oversee "Class" for Overture.
