The Berlin Film Festival was rocking Wednesday afternoon as Adam Sandler rolled into town with Spaceman, his latest feature for Netflix.
The Uncut Gems actor and his co-stars, including Carey Mulligan and Paul Dano, received buoyant rounds of applause as they entered the press conference for the film this afternoon in Berlin.
Adapted for the screen by Colby Day, the film is based on the novel Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfař, which was released in 2017. Adam Sandler was faced with a new challenge on the set of his upcoming Netflix film “Spaceman”: using wires to appear like an astronaut floating in space. At the film’s Berlin Film Festival press conference on Wednesday, Sandler cheekily reflected on the experience, saying the “wires hurt me.”
“The wires were tough because my body’s not the most flexible body. The wires hurt me, they dug into me. The stuntmen who would wire me up every day, I would say ‘that hurts’ and they didn’t believe me,” Sandler said as the room erupted in laughter. “But we did it as a team. [Director] Johan [Renck] would say, ‘You don’t look like you’re floating, what are you doing?’ And then I would say, ‘Well, what should we do?’ And then they’d wire Johan up and he’d be like, ‘More like this!'”

After xix months of solitude on a spaceship, floating alone with no one to talk to, Astronaut Jakub Prochazka (Adam Sandler) has a bizarre encounter with an extraterrestrial (voiced by Paul Dano) in the trailer for Netflix’s Spaceman. Or is the spider-like creature merely a figment of his imagination?
“I really wanted to have a performance from him that had nothing to do with the Adam Sandler we all know,” said director Johan Renck (Chernobyl) to Netflix’s Tudum. “I don’t think people understand how [although] he may come across as funny and sweet and all that, he’s very intelligent, really smart, profound.”
The cast of the sci-fi drama, based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s Spaceman of Bohemia, includes Carey Mulligan (Maestro), Kunal Nayyar (Suspicion), Lena Olin (Hunters), and Isabella Rossellini (Julia). Colby Day adapted the book, and Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, Michael Parets, Tim Headington, Lia Buman,...

A new trailer has been released for the upcoming existential sci-fi drama from the director of the popular HBO series Chernobyl. Spaceman sees Adam Sandler continuing to explore the more dramatic genre after his acclaimed performance in Uncut Gems and Hustle. In Spaceman, Sandler plays an isolated astronaut who is clamoring for his wife back on Earth. He encounters a mysterious creature, which is presented in the form of a giant spider, although emanates the calm voice of Paul Dano. Netflix shares the newest trailer from the film that is due to hit the “Berlinale Special” programme at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival for its world premiere before streaming on Netflix.
In addition to Adam Sandler, the film also stars Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, with Isabella Rossellini and Paul Dano. Johan Renck directs the movie from a script from writer Colby Day. The producers of the film include Channing Tatum,...

Adam Sandler is alone (and possibly seeing things) in his latest feature for Netflix, the sci-fi tinged Spaceman.
The meditative trailer follows the story of astronaut Jakub (Sandler), who is in the midst of a six-month solo mission to the outer reaches of the solar system.
Loneliness starts to get to him, and he begins to understand his marriage back on Earth may not be waiting for him at home. Along the way, a creature he discovers in the ship helps him understand where things went awry. The creature, who looks like a giant spider, may or may not be all in his head.
Carey Mulligan stars as Lenka, wife to Sandlers character, while Paul Dano voices Hanuš, the spider-like creature. Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, and Isabella Rossellini also star in the feature, based on Czech author Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has won a week long auction for Calamity Hustle, the action comedy that will star Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum. Adam & Aaron Nee wrote the script, and they will direct. All the studios were in on this, but it came down to Amazon, Netflix and Warner Bros. Led by production chiefs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warner Bros stepped up for the kind of star-driven movie that fueled the studio’s fortunes back in the day.
The spec is likened in tone to the mismatched buddy actioner like Lethal Weapon, and the hope is to launch a franchise. Reynolds will play a cop who is estranged from his low level criminal brother (Tatum). They grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, and went in the opposite direction. When bro is implicated as part of a diamond heist, the cop must hunt him down before those he ripped off.

Prior to donning a thong as Magic Mike, a 25-year-old Channing Tatum helped launch a different film franchise about a guy who feels the rhythm.
The star and producer of Magic Mike’s Last Dance — due out from Warner Bros. on Feb. 10 and the threequel to 2012’s Magic Mike, which was loosely based on Tatum’s own experiences as a stripper — had a few bit parts under his belt when he was cast as the male lead in 2006’s Step Up. Anne Fletcher’s directorial debut focused on troublemaking teen Tyler (Tatum), who is caught vandalizing a tony performing arts school and enlisted to help dance student Nora, played by Jenna Dewan, with her senior recital. Erik Feig, head of production at Summit Entertainment, met with writer Duane Adler (Save the Last Dance) and pitched a loose idea about a high school for aspiring performers.

When Channing Tatum was promoting his latest movie “Dog,” he got the same question over and over again: Does the title character survive through the end credits?
“People were saying I will not see this movie unless I know the dog lives,” Tatum says, laughing. “‘Marley and Me’ scarred everyone so hard. Everyone has Ptsd from it. They will not see a dog movie unless they know for certain that thing doesn’t die.”
Tatum wasn’t initially sure if he should reveal the outcome of the film — which opened last month, in which he stars and co-directed with his producing partner Reid Carolin — about a U.S. Army Ranger who takes a road trip with a Belgian Malinois. “I was so vehemently against telling people the end of my movie, but apparently it works,” he says. “I think I’m going to tell everyone the end of my movies now.

In a highly competitive situation and the first major deal of the Cannes Virtual market, MGM has landed global distribution rights to Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut Pussy Island. The original film, written by Kravitz and E.T. Feigenbaum, will star Naomi Ackie alongside Channing Tatum. Bruce Cohen, Kravitz, Tiffany Persons and Tatum’s Free Association will produce, with Garret Levitz overseeing for Free Association.
Deadline revealed the project last week, and Kravitz described to Deadline the role she’d written for the lead actress, she said it was one that she would have loved to be playing, if she wasn’t directing. In Ackie, she has landed up a BAFTA winner who will play Whitney Houston in the Sony biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody from director Stella Meghie. Ackie currently stars in season three of Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang’s Master of None, on which she also serves as an Executive Producer.

MGM has acquired the worldwide rights to “Pussy Island,” the directorial debut of “High Fidelity” star Zoë Kravitz, and the studio has now set “Master of None” and “Star Wars” actress Naomi Ackie in the lead role.
Channing Tatum was previously announced as the male lead when the package was set at the Cannes film market. Tatum will also produce.
Ackie in “Pussy Island” will play Frida, a young, clever, Los Angeles cocktail waitress who has her eyes set on the prize: philanthropist and tech mogul Slater King (Tatum). When she skillfully maneuvers her way into King’s inner circle and ultimately an intimate gathering on his private island, she is ready for a journey of a lifetime. Despite the epic setting, beautiful people, ever-flowing champagne and late-night dance parties, Frida can sense that there’s more to this island than meets the eye. Something she can’t quite put her finger on.
