I’ve never felt so naked in my whole life,” says Jacob Slater, the man behind the reins of rock band Wunderhorse. The Hertfordshire-born frontman is centre stage at his sold-out show at London’s Lafayette, 600 pairs of eyes transfixed by him. As he roars through a rollicking set of gritty rock, his face crinkles, his body bucks. Pouring out of him are vignettes of teenage trauma, delivered with a preacher’s zeal. He bares his soul; his heart is open.
“It’s kind of a relief going on stage every night,” he tells me the following day, when we meet in a bar in King’s Cross. “It’s like this is what I’m supposed to be doing.” This is fortunate, given Wunderhorse are currently on the road with Irish rock band Fontaines DC, having previously supported North Shields artist Sam Fender. Britney Spears has shared a post contrasting herself with Jennifer Lopez, criticising the way she was medicated while under her now-defunct conservatorship.
Between the years 2008 and 2021, Spears’ personal and financial affairs were controlled by a conservatorship agreement, with her father Jamie Spears serving as her conservator for the majority of that time.
Writing on Instagram early on Monday (26 September), Spears suggested that an artist like Lopez would not have been subjected to the same treatment she had.
“I’d like to see somebody tell Jennifer Lopez to sit down eight hours a day seven days a week... no car. I’d like to see a management team tell Jennifer Lopez to go through what I went through... what the f*** do you think she would do ... her family would Never allow that,” she wrote.

Director Simeon Halligan’s latest horror opus, Habit, will receive its premiere at Grimmfest on Thursday 5th October, as the opening night gala for the festival. The film is an adaptation of Steven McGeagh’s cult novel, which is set in a neon-drenched dystopian Manchester. Alongside Elliot James Langridge (Northern Soul), the production features an incredible Northern cast of actors, including Roxanne Pallet (Emmerdale), Jessica Barden (Penny Dreadful, The Lobster) and Sally Carmen (Shameless). The film’s cast also includes William Ash (Waterloo Road), Andrew Ellis (This Is England), Robert Beck (Home Fires), Joanne Mitchell (White Settlers), and Louis Emerick (Layer Cake).
Habit follows the story of Michael, played by Elliot James Langridge (Northern Soul), jobless and down on his luck, he is irresistibly drawn into the city’s seedy underworld and is groomed by a subculture who have a dark secret, a bloody addiction that they intend Michael to share.

Shaun Of The Dead plays this weekend (April 21st and 22nd) at the Tivoli as part of their Reel Late at the Tivoli Midnight series.
Shaun (Simon Pegg) and Ed (Nick Frost) are two twenty-something slacker roommates. Shaun spends his days working, playing video games, and hanging out at the pub. Ed does pretty much the same thing, except for the working part. Shaun’s world takes a turn for the worse when, sensing that their life is going nowhere, his girlfriend Liz breaks up with him. Then things really get bad when zombies start showing up in his neighborhood (and everywhere else).
Soon after realizing that The Dead Are Walking The Earth (nothing gets by these blokes), Shaun and Ed decide to rescue Shaun’s mother and father (excuse me, that’s step-father), Liz and her two roommates, and find a safe place to hole up,...

Oliver Stone. That’s the filmmaker who should have been asked to chronicle the career of Oasis, the hugely successful, ever-combustible, now-departed kings of Britpop. Looking at the entirety of the band’s lifespan — from the early 1990s to break-up in 2008 — it’s hard not to notice the trademarks of Doors-era Stone: controversies, fisticuffs, conspiracies, bravery, insanity, ego, vulnerability, lust, and violence. In rock and roll, these are positives, and the joys that emanate from such feelings and behavior is certainly on display in Oasis: Supersonic, a Noel and Liam Gallagher-approved documentary. The band’s career, however, is not really the subject of the new documentary directed by Mat Whitecross and from the producers of Amy, Asif Kapadia’s Oscar-winning Amy Winehouse documentary. Instead, Supersonic is about the rise of the band, the period from birth to its two concerts (to 250,000 attendees) at Knebworth.

A documentary all about the rise of Oasis is coming - and it's in the works from the team behind this year's Amy Winehouse movie Amy.
The film will journey from the moment Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam's band in 1991, to releasing their debut album Definitely Maybe in 1994.
According to Deadline, Amy director Asif Kapadia will executive-produce alongside James Gay Rees. Mat Whitecross is directing.
The as-yet-untitled documentary will feature never-before-seen archive footage and insight from both Noel and Liam.
Director Whitecross previously worked on Spike Island, about a group of Stone Roses fans trying to get tickets to see the band's Spike Island concert in 1990.
Meanwhile, Noel recently ruled out Oasis headlining Glastonbury (again), simply because the festival "don't pay enough" to justify a reunion.
Watch the video for Definitely Maybe's 'Live Forever' below:...

Also producing are Fiona Neilson for Mint Pictures (Spike Island) and Simon Halfon for Nemperor (Sleuth).
Financing will come from Lorton Entertainment Limited, founded by Julian Bird, while newly launched Lorton Distribution will handledistribution in the UK.
According to the production, the filmmakers have been given “unprecendented” access to the band and unseen archive footage and the film will include candid insight from the famously stormy brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

It's 10 years since cameras started rolling on Shane Meadows' seminal This Is England and now the award-winning saga is about to draw to a close, with This Is England '90 launching on Channel 4 this Sunday.
The Berlin Wall and Margaret Thatcher have fallen, tie-dye and bowl cuts are in vogue and there's plenty of sex, drugs and all-night raves - but This Is England's final TV outing also explores how old friends grow apart over time.
"This series, as it unfolds, we start to look at the summer of love - and the drugs become more serious," says Meadows. "Things start to change - for the better for some, and for the worse for others."
For the cast, This Is England '90 brings to an end an epic journey they never expected to embark upon. "I don't think any of us ever thought that we'd do any sort...

"Don't have to explain myself to you / I don't give two f**ks about your review" said Paul Weller with The Jam on 'The Modern World' back in 1977, so I don't think he'll be all that bothered by what I say about his band or this documentary.
He doesn't have to worry either way. Screened in the city ahead of its broadcast on Sky Arts next week, The Jam: About The Young Idea is a fine documentary that can reel in movie fans who hadn't necessarily surrendered to the beat of Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler before.
Riding on the back of a new photo exhibition of the band, the film is directed with economy and style by Bob Smeaton, one of the men behind the remarkable Beatles Anthology series from the mid-1990s.

Shaun Ryder is set to make an unlikely comeback to Channel 4's Tfi Friday when the programme returns next week.
The Happy Mondays singer made a memorable sweary appearance on the series back in the 1990s, in which his language was so bad it forced Chris Evans to pre-record all future shows.
According to The Sun, Evans himself had to convince concerned Channel 4 bosses of the booking, and overturned a ban on Ryder appearing on the station.
The singer is the latest name to be added to the special 20th anniversary show, joining the likes of fellow '90s musicians Liam Gallagher and Blur.
Mani from the Stone Roses and Roger Daltrey will also appear.
The return of Tfi Friday (live that is, so be warned) airs on Friday, June 12 at 9pm on Channel 4. Watch a promo below:...

“This band are the reason that I’ve never worn a tie.” This quote is one of the many superb fan quotes from Shane Meadows’ excellent documentary Made of Stone. Released last year, the film followed the comeback of legendary band The Stone Roses. The documentary was outstanding, but what made it exceptional were the scenes that explored the reaction of the band’s fans, many of whom had never expected to ever see a reunion. Ranging from unashamed joy to downright hysteria (even Meadows himself could barely keep it together when hearing the news), each of the fans discussed what exactly the band and their music had meant to them. Through listening to the fans, Meadows gains a true understanding of the way in which music can form the identity of the common man, and how music can allow a person to break out of the comfort of their...

Director: Florian Habicht; Starring: Jarvis Cocker, Mark Webber, Candida Doyle, Nick Banks, Steve Mackey and the people of Sheffield; Running time: 90 mins; Certificate: 12A
Forming in 1978 and releasing their first album It in 1983, Pulp became the slowest-burning overnight success in history when the double-whammy of His 'n' Hers and Different Class made them pop superstars in 1994/95.
But rather than trudge us through the Fire to the Promised Island, director Florian Habicht instead picks - more or less - a single day in the Pulp story. December, 8, 2012 - the band's homecoming show after their reunion the year before.
Most of the film is made up of chats (it'd be over-formalising them to call them interviews) with the band, their fans, and the people of Sheffield. By narrowing his film's focus, Habicht has made a tender, charming life in the day of a unique band in British pop.

Twenty years on the question “what exactly was Britpop?” remains surprisingly difficult to answer, even if it did act as a forerunner for everything from Cool Britannia to modern indie rock.
Filling the void in British music left behind by “Madchester” bands The Stone Roses and The Happy Mondays, from 1993 to 1997 the movement transformed an industry dominated by shoegaze and grunge into a smorgasbord of punk rock, glam, new wave, and traditional 60s guitar pop. During that time, Britpop albums regularly reached platinum status and shattered sales records with songs that had the capacity to be relentlessly optimistic or as comically cynical as this line from Blur’s chart-topping ‘Country House’:

Frank Sidebottom was possibly the strangest pop star in history. Jon Ronson, who played in his band, and has co-written a film inspired by the character starring Michael Fassbender, remembers Frank's creator Chris Sievey as being even more eccentric than his papier-mache alter ego
In 1987 I was 20 and the student union entertainments officer for the Polytechnic of Central London. One day I was sitting in the office when the telephone rang. I picked it up.
"So Frank's playing tonight and our keyboard player can't make it and so we're going to have to cancel unless you know any keyboard players," said a frantic voice.

I heard muffled voices. He came back to the phone. "Can you play C, F and G?...

Decadence, violence, love and space – Guardian film critic Peter Bradshaw shares his fantasy award nomination list for 2013
• The 2012 Braddies
Awards season is now upon us and here, as every year, is my personal fantasy award nomination list for 2013, whimsically called the Braddies, which covers the period running from the beginning of the calendar year to the present. There are 10 nominations in eight categories: film, director, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, screenplay and documentary.
The reader is invited to nominate the winner in the comments section below, and perhaps to note omissions and evidence that the list betrays suggestions of sociocultural bias.
I like to think that these awards will one day evolve into an actual ceremony with chrome-and-glass statuettes, sponsorship from Sky Atlantic and a televised evening presided over by Dara Ó Briain or Mariella Frostrup. But until then, it exists in a world of fantasy only. And so,...

Paul Scholes and Paul Neville will also feature in the documentary, directed by Ben and Gabe Turner.
Class of '92 will feature interviews with each of the footballers, as well as insight from Zinedine Zidane, Tony Blair, Mani from The Stone Roses, Eric Cantona and Danny Boyle

We, as music fans, love it when a band from our distant childhood gets back together for a reunion tour. This week, not only did we see everyone’s guilty pop pleasure Busted reunite, but they also combined forces with fellow noughties group McFly to form the clever-titled ‘McBusted’.
In recent years, we have seen The Stone Roses, The Verve, The Happy Mondays, New Kids on the Block, and – of course – Take That reunite to cater for all music genre needs, and the list doesn’t stop there. So here’s our definitive list of 10 bands and groups we want to see get back together for one last time before sending them back to the retirement home for good…
10. Outkast
Andre “Andre 3000″ Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton formed Outkast in 1992 and the band have technically never actually split up. The pair have released six studio albums under the name...

The World’s End
Directed by: Edgar Wright
Cast: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine
Running Time: 1 hrs 49 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: August 23, 2013
Plot: An alcoholic stuck in the past (Pegg) reunites his old friends to complete the pub crawl they botched back in 1990. During this second attempt, they realize the town they left behind is a bit different years and years later.
Who’S It For? Adorers of Shaun of the Dead or even Hot Fuzz are already standing in line, and they certainly shouldn’t be stopped. But for whatever high expectations they may have, they should all be forewarned that this isn’t the ultimately satisfying reunion one may hope it to be. A fun night out with familiar faces? That it is indeed.
Expectations: While I didn’t enjoy a previous pairing from Frost & Pegg (Paul) I was curious...

The World's End lands in theaters everywhere on Friday, and the Edgar Wright alien-invasion/drinking comedy featuring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Rosamund Pike and Pierce Brosnan draws on a number of cinematic inspirations, from Invasion of the Body Snatchers-style sci-fi classics to The Big Chill-styled reunion movies. In fact, Wright recently assembled 14 fave influences (several of which are listed below) in a thematic, double-feature screening series at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles to get audiences in the proper frame of mind.

Aside from trying and miserably failing to jump over fences, one sustaining factor in the previous two features in the affectionately named Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, is that of eternal youth, the idea that these big kids remain within a forever young mindset, reluctant to face adulthood. In The World’s End such a theme is at its most prevalent, where growing up is now essential, rather than favourable, as a film about five old friends who attempt to recreate a failed pub crawl from their youth. However sadly by the time we get to the final pub, this Cornetto has melted.
As Edgar Wright, Nick Frost and Simon Pegg join forces once again, the latter plays Gary King, a lonesome man nearing 40, who wants nothing more than to reunite his oldest friends back together, and tackle the infamous pub crawl in their home town which they failed at miserably 20 years previous.

For fans of The Stone Roses it seems all their Christmases have come at once, or at least all their films, as this week sees the release of the second movie about the band in as many months.
But while Shane Meadows’ biopic-cum-concert-movie Made of Stone focused on the Roses, and the real-world implications of their recent reunion, Spike Island tells a fictional tale of a group of mates who go to ridiculous lengths to see the Baggy band at the height of their fame.
We recently sat down with Nico Miragello, who plays Dodge in the movie, to discus filming, chemistry and the reaction to the film back in Manchester.
The chemistry between the lads
Me and Elliott are best friends in real life, so the part could have not been more perfectly suited for me and Elliott to just go in and go, ‘boom’. The chemistry was there,...

After an apocalyptic deluge of torrential rain battered the festival with several setbacks in 2012, Isle Of Wight festival promoter John Giddings responded by securing one of the strongest line-ups in recent years. In addition to pulling in some real overseas musical behemoths (The Killers, Bon Jovi, Blondie) the 2013 line-up also boasted a collective of quintessentially British bands who, over the years, have helped mould the UK music scene into what it is today (The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Paul Weller).
The festival has always been known for paying homage to its rich musical heritage by pulling in an eclectic mix of old and new bands that cater for the mainstream as well as more divergent acts, and the line-up for 2013 did not disappoint.

★★★☆☆ It would seem that 2013 is shaping up to be the true second coming of legendary Manchurian outfit The Stone Roses. Following triumphant reunion gigs and an equally lauded documentary, Made of Stone, into the mix comes Roses-tinged teen tribute-cum-standalone rites of passage tale Spike Island (2012). It's the summer of 1990 and the streets are filled with the sights and sounds of The Stone Roses, in both an aural and visual sense (the band's Jackson Pollock-inspired, signature abstract paint splashes imaginatively invade the frame). Thus, anticipation is naturally high for six school chums on the cusp of adulthood.
Not only are the boys harbouring plans for pop world domination with their own band, Shadowcaster, but their musical heroes The Stone Roses have a huge outdoor gig planned at Spike Island. The gang are eager to get tickets, although frontman 'Tits' is in a quandary about making the date, owing to the...

A 24-year-old woman attending the Stone Roses' Glasgow show reportedly died after an incident that took place at the concert.
The woman collapsed at the concert at Glasgow Green, according to Scotland's Daily Record.
“She was found lying on the grass at the back of nine and her friends raised the alarm," an unnamed source told the publication. "Paramedics tried to help her but it doesn’t look like there was anything they could do."
The woman was reportedly pronounced dead at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. A cause of death hasn't been released. “Just after 9pm we received a report that a 24-year-old woman had fallen while attending the Stone Roses concert," a police spokesman said, The Daily Record reports. “Emergency services attended and the woman was treated at the venue before being taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where she was pronounced death."
The Stone Roses have yet to comment on the death.

Nico Mirallegro will be familiar to TV fans thanks to roles in Mad Fat Diary and The Village, but the Manchester-born actor is switching his attention to the big screen this week with the release of Brit coming-of-age film Spike Island. Set around The Stone Roses's now-famous 1990 concert, the film tracks four friends in fictional band Shadowcaster as they experience love, heartbreak and the joys of rock 'n' roll.
Digital Spy sat down with Mirallegro to talk about the Roses resurrection, Spike Island and what he thought about Shane Meadows's documentary Made of Stone.
You were born in Manchester, so were The Stone Roses always hovering in the background?
"They were very much in the background. Growing up where I was from it was very much Oasis, but my mum was into her Manchester music. In fact, Bez from The Happy Mondays is like a family uncle. So...

Warm and energetic, Shane Meadows's love letter to the Stone Roses may be his best film so far
They're made of something much more fragile than that. The unfakeable warmth of fan-love pulses out of this dynamic documentary by Shane Meadows, about the 2012 reunion of the Stone Roses, the legendary band whose first album triggered the Manchester wave; yet while 90s Cool Britannia got into its euphoric groove, the Stone Roses themselves famously retreated into legal wrangling, creative inertia and weird Salingeresque reclusiveness, one hidden benefit of which was that they were never tempted, like Noel Gallagher, to commit themselves to endorsing Tony Blair.

Director: Shane Meadows; Starring: Ian Brown, Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, John Squire, Alan 'Reni' Wren; Running time: 96 mins; Certificate: 15
"You can't repeat the past," Nick Carraway ventures in one of the year's other big movies, The Great Gatsby. "Can't repeat the past?" Gatsby cries incredulously. "Why of course you can!" With Made of Stone, director Shane Meadows suggests that maybe - just maybe - it's actually possible.
Back in 1990, Shane had a ticket for The Stone Roses at Spike Island - the first time the Uttoxeter lad would have seen his favourite band. A bad acid trip the night before meant that he gave the ticket away and missed out. Fast forward two decades and singer Ian Brown drops him a line. He and guitarist John Squire have kissed and made up, along with drummer Reni and bassist Mani, and does he fancy bringing a camera along?

Shane Meadows talks about his Stone Roses documentary Made of Stone – and what it was like to work with his heroes
To outsiders, love always seems like madness. In 2011, when the Stone Roses announced that they would be reforming to play some gigs – Ian Brown, John Squire, Gary "Mani" Mounfield and Alan "Reni" Wren together onstage, 15 years after their rancorous split – many, many music fans appeared to go completely insane. Grown men wept, danced, hugged, clambered into the loft to find their Reni hat, pointed both hands to the sky for the chorus of I Am the Resurrection, then wept again. The internet exploded with delight. Oasis's Liam Gallagher tweeted "not been this happy since my kids were born" and thousands agreed.
Of course, there were cynics; but they were silenced when all 150,000 tickets for the Roses' Manchester Heaton Park gigs last year were bought in 14 minutes. The band added another Heaton Park show.

In a last-minute lineup shift, Blur will trade spots with The Stone Roses to headline Friday night at Coachella.
Though some speculated the change was the result of mediocre turnout at The Stone Roses' Coachella reunion show last weekend, a spokesperson for the band reportedly told NME this is what was meant to happen all along. The Stone Roses were slated to co-headline the festival with Blur and swap positions during the second weekend's lineup. Blur, whose popular run through the '90s has inspired a still-passionate legion of fans, saw a significantly more excited crowd during their performance last weekend.
The lineup indicated on the Coachella website made the switch on Wednesday afternoon with a simple update and very little fanfare. The Stone Roses will now perform at 9:55 p.m., with Blur closing out the mainstage at 11:35 p.m.

The first weekend of the annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has come to an end. As with every other year, it was a weekend filled with performances by dozens of musicians and bands, along with a handful of surprises.
On Saturday (April 13), the rumor going around the festival was that a electronic duo Daft Punk would join French indie band Phoenix on stage. After a teaser video for a new Daft Punk album was played for the crowd Friday (April 12), it wasn't crazy to think they would be performing in some capacity.
Instead, Phoenix introduced R. Kelly as a special guest. That's a dramatic change for a crowd expecting Daft Punk, but they seemed to take it in stride as Kelly belted out the opening of "Bump n' Grind," before joining Phoenix in a mash-up of his single "Ignition (Remix)" and their hit "1901."

There is way more of the Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival than any one person could take in, so even people who are there have probably missed a fair bit of it. Alas, most of us couldn't make it to Indio in the first place, nor do we want to sit around watching all the fun we're not having online. But, with the event well into the third and final day of its first weekend, the hard-working Coachella press corps has produced enough material to give us a good sense of the weekend's highlights so far, without the sunburn, hangover, or YouTube squint. Relatively few people adored The Stone Roses, who headlined Friday night, with just 5,000 people clustering around the stage in a field meant to hold tens of thousands, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which blamed the ambivalence on the band's U.S. obscurity and front-man Ian Brown...

Nashville, Tenn. -- Coachella and Lollapalooza are sold out. Bonnaroo's nearly there, too. But eager fans need only be patient: Wait a few years and chances are you'll have a star-studded music festival of your own within driving distance.
New music festivals are popping up more quickly than you can count in the U.S. As the summer festival season gets under way this week with the sprawling Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival down in the desert in Indio, Calif., some of the most successful promoters in the scene are looking ahead to next year and beyond when they'll launch new ventures in untapped markets.
"I do think that there's really plenty of opportunities for people to create some great festival experiences," said Ashley Capps, a co-founder of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn. "In fact, I think in many ways the audience in America is just...

New web comedy The Chaos has launched today.
The five-part series stars Dan Skinner (Shooting Stars' Angelos Epithemiou) as Dougie Charms, manager of Camden band The Chaos.
"They're a young indie band who have grown up together," Skinner explains.
"They sign a pretty dodgy record deal and spend the series trying to get out of this contract some pr*ck has convinced them to sign."
The band is made up of keyboardist Lenny (Jeff Leach), singer Carl (Chris Kendall) and drummer Sharona (Sammy T Tobson).
While he says that The Libertines are the closest real-life version of the band, Skinner said that his alter-ego Angelos would not be a fan.
"I'm not sure they'd be his thing," he said.
"He likes Status Quo, Supertramp and Elo. He went to The Stone Roses reunion last year and had the time of his life."

Shane Meadows' love of music is well-known. After all, the man once formed a band, She Talks To Angels, with Paddy Considine, and has spruced up his movies with choice cuts from Toots, The Specials, Calexico, Aphex Twin, among many others. What's perhaps less well-known is his passion for Madchester's finest, The Stone Roses, a relationship that's been cemented with new fan-doc The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone. We're happy to share the film's new poster with you below, you lucky devils. Framed by the 'Roses long-awaited reunion in 2012 and following them from studio to Heaton Park's emotional homecoming gigs, Meadows' movie will warm the cockles of the bands' legion of fans. While we can't guarantee a cameo appearance from Le Donk, the nostalgia - and tunes - should come thick and fast."This film isn’t a history lesson", explains Meadows, "nor is it a two hour concert film.
