One of Latin America’s biggest genre propositions, the Latido Films-sold “Virus 32,” from Uruguayan director Gustavo Hernandez (“You Shall Not Sleep”), was unveiled Tuesday on the A Demain Cannes market platform.
The $1 million pic is a 50-50 Argentina-Uruguay co-production between Aeroplano, run by Sebastian Aloi, and Mother Superior Films, run by Hernandez and Ignacio García Cucucovich.
In addition to subsidy support from Argentina and Uruguay, the horror-thriller has funding from private investors and a pre-sale to Buena Vista for Latin American rights, including a theatrical release in Argentina and Uruguay. Rest of the world rights, including U.S. rights, are sold by Latido.
The video presentation of the new project featured producer Aloi, director Hernandez and screenwriter Juma Fodde Roma.
The story unrolls in a 24-hour period, and is shot in the 13,000 sq. ft. abandoned Neptuno Sports Club in Montevideo. It was written prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and...

I’m not ashamed to admit that, as a die-hard horror fan, there are still some gaps in my movie-watching history. The original Rabid Dogs, directed by the Italian legend that is Mario Bava, is one such film (something I should correct given the film has recently had the Arrow Video treatment). It’s a situation that meant I was headed into this redux with no prior knowledge of the original.
Once again based on the Michael J. Carroll short story “Man and Boy”, this new take on the story – from first-time director Éric Hannezo and The Horde co-writer/director Yannick Dahan – sees three desperate criminals take a young woman and a father...

Special Mention: The Fake Trailers from Grindhouse (2007, USA): The four fake trailers featured in the otherwise disappointing Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino double-feature: Machete by Robert Rodriguez, Werewolf Women of the SS by Rob Zombie, Thanksgiving by Eli Roth and Don’t by Edgar Wright-are all very entertaining trips down horror/exploitation film memory lane and are easily the best part of the film.

I profiled this French zombie flick, titled La Horde, back in May.
Soon thereafter, IFC’s new genre label, IFC Midnight, acquired it for distribution, with plans to premiere the film simultaneously in theaters and on VOD in August, with an eventual DVD release later.
Well… it’s later.
A quick recap… You should remember Eriq Ebouaney… his highest profile role likely being in Raoul Peck’s wonderful 2000 film Lumumba, as the titular character.
In, La Horde (The Horde), co-directed by Frenchmen Yannick Dahan & Benjamin Rocherhe, Ebouaney leads a pack of crooked cops and malevolent gangsters in a life/death battle against a horde of the walking dead – aka zombies.
Stuck on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, in this gruesome, tight, action-packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape, two opposing groups (the crooked cops and the gangsters) find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death.

We now have even more proof that holiday revelers are not thinking about horror as there are only three notable titles this week. What do you think about Devil being released so close to this religious holiday?
Zombie fans among us should appreciate The Horde; however, if The Foywonder's recent tweet is any indication, Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus may not be a shiny present from Santa after all.
For the gamers out there, your early Xmas present just arrived in the form of a downloadable Dead Space 2 (watch trailer) demo arriving today on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
Devil
Directed by The Dowdle Brothers (Drew Dowdle, John Erick Dowdle)
Starring Jacob Vargas, Bokeem Woodbine, Chris Messina, Matt Craven
Trapped in an elevator high above Philadelphia, five people discover that the Devil (Blu-ray DVD review) is among them – and no one can escape their fate. This chilling, supernatural thriller from M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense,...

*La Horde aka The Horde releases on DVD today and here writer Ed Sum adds his thoughts.
Directors: Yannick Dahan, and Benjamin Rocher.
Writers: Yannick Dahan, Benjamin Rocher, Arnaud Bordas, and Stéphane Moïssakis.
Is it the end of the world already? The widely anticipated North American DVD release of La Horde will hit stores Dec 21st, 2010. This video will certainly be one to delight fans who are familiar with the stars of French entertainment—actor Eriq Ebouaney (Cape of Good Hope, Kingdom of Heaven) plays Markudi and rapper Doudou Masta plays Bola, his brother. They demonstrate a chemistry that’s normally reserved for a Quentin Tarantino product.
This engagement helps because what happens throughout the film is atypical for a gangster flick. After the murder of a detective at the start of the film, certain members of the French police decide to go vigilante on the worst night possible for life in Paris.

Well, we have taken a look at the "Best of" on the domestic circuit, in relation to indie films. Now, let us go global to track down the best in international horror. This is a year where the vile was unleashed with the Human Centipede to the action oriented zombie film the Devil's Playground. This reviewer admits a weakness in the areas of Asian and Italian films, from abroad. If it is not Takashi Miike, then this movie lover has likely not heard of it. Giallo is another film genre that does not appeal here.
However, there were several good outings from Scandinavian countries like Dead Snow and French horror continues towards an apex with movies such as La Horde and High Lane. Some unreleased projects like the serial killer franchise Fritt Vilt 3 (Cold Prey 3) will be included in this list. So, sit back, relax and let this movie reviewer...

Two notable horror films will release on DVD and Blu-Ray this week. The titles include M. Night Shyamalan's Devil and Yannick Dahan's La Horde, or The Horde. Devil has been given some attention in a review on 28Dla; the review can be found here: Devil Movie Review. 28Dla writer, Ed Sum described the film as "what Shyamalan has created has the scope of being something larger than life." So, there is definitely some intrigue in the film. As well, the French film La Horde has made some waves by putting some thrills and action back into the coming zombie apocalypse. An international trailer for this film has previously been posted here: La Horde International Trailer.
Both of these titles will be made available December 21st and these releases will each host a whole slew of extras. The special features and more details on these films can be found inside.

IFC Films is reportedly releasing the French Zombie film The Horde to DVD on December 1st in the USA. The undead will be outnumbering humans just in time for the Holiday season.

The film premiered in theaters and on VOD under the IFC Midnight label in August. Check out the trailer below the synopsis.

Winter's Bone (15)
(Debra Granik, 2010, Us) Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Kevin Breznahan. 100 mins
What No Country For Old Men did for west Texas, this striking landscape thriller does for Missouri's Ozark mountains. This is no country for poor women: an insular rural community clouded by drugs and patriarchy where they do things their way. So when Ree learns her father's skipped bail, and the family home was his security, she must ask difficult questions in dangerous places – chiefly among her extended outlaw family. Tough suspense, documentary-like observation and character drama are perfectly balanced.
I'm Still Here (15)
(Casey Affleck, 2010, Us) Joaquin Phoenix, Sean Combs, Anthony Langdon. 107 mins
What was Joaquin thinking? This film won't clear that up, but it at least shows you what he was doing: taking drugs, falling out with friends and the movie biz, rapping badly and descending into mumbling incoherence – apparently.

The new wave of French horror marches on relentlessly with “The Horde”, a fast paced zombie thriller which marks the debut of writer directors Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher. Having won Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography at the 2010 Fantasporto International Film Festival, the film has been building up a fair amount of buzz as a superior example of the post “28 Days Later” sprinting ghoul apocalyptic subgenre. With a vaguely recognisable cast that includes the likes of Claude Perron (“Amelie”), Eriq Ebouaney (“Transporter 3”), Aurelien Récoing (“Intimate Enemies”) and Doudou Masta (“Arthur and the Minimoys”), the film keeps the brutal action coming thick and fast, with Dahan and Rocher aiming for a hard boiled edge in the style of classic John Carpenter. The plot is neatly streamlined, and quickly gets down to business as a bunch of cops break into an abandoned high rise apartment block where a gang of drug dealers are hiding out,...

IFC Films has debuted a new official Us trailer on YouTube for the release of The Horde, a French zombie film that we've been writing about since earlier this year. I'm sure a few of you probably already have a copy of this on DVD, but for those of us in the Us who are zombie fans, this is really our first chance to check it out. I like the gritty style of horror/genre films coming out of France these days, so I'm interested in seeing this, but this trailer is pretty awful, especially the shitty dubbing (not to mention that cheesy voice over). I don't know why they did that, but if you're into zombie movies (or French flicks) then check it out anyway. Watch the official Us trailer for Yannick Dahan & Benjamin Rocher's The Horde: The Horde, or just La Horde in French, is set on...

I profiled this French zombie flick, titled La Horde, back in May, with an expected Us debut via IFC’s on-demand channel this month.
I’d forgotten all about it; and, thankfully, was reminded of it this morning while researching something else. Did any of you happen to remember and catch it?
IFC says it aired on August 11th, although, I can’t immediately tell if it was just a single day screening, or if it’s available throughout the month. IFC’s website doesn’t make it easy to find these things out. But it looks like it definitely aired on the 11th.
A quick recap… You should remember Eriq Ebouaney… his highest profile role likely being in Raoul Peck’s wonderful 2000 film Lumumba, as the titular character.
In, La Horde (The Horde), co-directed by Frenchmen Yannick Dahan & Benjamin Rocherhe, Ebouaney leads a pack of crooked cops and malevolent...

It's an unwritten rule in zombie film making that the beginning of the film is just a day in the life. Films which follow this pattern begin with people going about their various petty affairs, going to work, getting groceries, scratching themselves, and all the other common activities that make up humdrum existence. It's refreshing, then, that a film has finally been made which captures a scenario wherein the zombie apocalypse crashes down upon a completely unrelated drama.

French zombie movie The Horde opens tomorrow on IFC, so the channel has unleashed a, um, throng? No. oh fuck it - a horde of photos. Check them out below.
Zombie movie or rave party?
Save your bullets - it's a rave out there.
I take it back-they're zombies!! Fire!!
Thank you!!
Man down!
The pick axe never runs out of bullets.
The French always have time to pose and look cool.
She's about to leap into the green abyss.

Well here we are. It's August, and there's still no firm release date for the Yannick Dahan zombie opus The Horde. You Lied to us, IFC! We do, however, have a new Italian one-sheet for the film that comes to us in 3D. Mind you ... the movie is not, but the one-sheet? Jumps right out at you, doesn't it?
For more check out the French The Horde website.
Look for the flick to play here on VOD and in limited theatres via IFC supposedly in August.

Is it a revelation or a revolution? It’s both! The Revelation Perth International Film Festival is tackling the theme of “Revolution” when its 13th annual edition begins violating Australia on July 8-18. Get set for 11 days filled French zombies, Belgian cowboys, outer space outlaws, Beat poets, cat ladies, gospel musicians and other revolutionaries.
Actually, one of the main features of the festival this year is a slew of music documentaries, mostly spotlighting both American and Australian music. On the U.S. side of things there’s Wheedle’s Groove, a look at the history of Seattle funk; Rejoice and Shout, which examines gospel music’s impact on African-American culture — and vice versa; Tom Dicillo’s Doors documentary When You’re Strange; plus The Family Jams and 72 Musicians. And, from Australia, there’s Megan Simpson-Hubberman’s classic concert film The Night of the Triffids.

Writer/Director team Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher's The Horde comes to IFC VOD in August, and a new, international trailer shows off the action the French horror film plans to bring as corrupt cops and gangsters are forced to work together to survive a zombie outbreak. Below you can checkout a gruesome new trailer for IFC Films La Horde. This new and upcoming zombie flick looks to have a ton of promise and is high up on my must see this summer.
Directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, this French zombie movie follows a posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead through an action packed story of escape and revenge. A hit at the Venice Film Festival, London’s FrightFest Film Festival and at this year’s Colcoa (City of Lights City of Angels), the film will premiere in theaters and on VOD under the IFC Midnight label beginning in August.

The French horror film “The Horde” has a simple enough premise: four cops, looking to avenge the execution-style murder of a comrade, assault an abandoned apartment complex where a band of crooks led by two African brothers are currently holed up. Alas, the assault gets Fubar almost immediately, as the crooks seem a lot smarter than the sorta good guys. (These cops are of the crooked variety, thus not entirely good guys.) Of course, this being a zombie film, cops vs. robbers is not the film’s main driving force: soon, a zombie outbreak threatens to take out both factions unless they work together to survive. You’ve see the premise before, and certainly writers/directors Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, making their feature-film debut with “The Horde”, have nothing groundbreaking to offer. What they do bring to the table are solid ideas about what a movie pitting men with...

Along with their partnership with The Criterion Collection, it looks like IFC Films is set to jump into an even bigger portion of the video-on-demand world, with a brand new, genre friendly brand, IFC Midnight.
The brand will bring horror, sci-fi, thrillers, erotic films, action and any other film of that ilk to televisions nationwide. Midnight itself also has a special distribution deal with Mpi Media Group, so it is more than likely that these films will have little to no chance of making the jump to the Criterion Collection (sorry for all those Human Centipede fans craving a “C” to appear on the corner of the film’s DVD cover art, it just isn’t going to happen).

The Horde and Doghouse coming IFC!
Bless you, IFC.
While the channel's obvious bread-and-butter is independent movies, the powers-that-be recognize that their biggest successes on VOD are titles like Dead Snow and Pontypool, both VOD selections from last year. This has prompted IFC to create IFC Midnight, a new series that will be highlighted by new genre films.
Jonathan Sehring, President of IFC Entertainment, explains: "Many of our most successful VOD titles are those that might fall under the Midnight label – not just films that are straight up horror, erotic arthouse or genre films but also ones that shock audiences, push boundaries and stir up controversy – so officially creating IFC Midnight was the logical next step. While we as a company continue to focus on a diverse range of films, this is one particular area which we are going to heavily brand and promote."

This looks like it could be bloody, disgusting, violent fun
You should remember Eriq Ebouaney… his highest profile role likely being in Raoul Peck’s wonderful 2000 film Lumumba, as the titular character.
In the below film titled, La Horde (The Horde), co-directed by Frenchmen Yannick Dahan & Benjamin Rocherhe, Ebouaney leads a pack of crooked cops and malevolent gangsters in a life/death battle against a horde of the walking dead – aka zombies.
The story goes… penned like animals on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, in this gruesome, tight, action-packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape, two opposing groups (the crooked cops and the gangsters) find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death. Joining forces to survive, they must reach ground level together or perish!
The French film played the festival circuit in 2009 and 2010, and was reportedly a hit at the Venice Film Festival.

Some interesting news all the way from France as Bloody Disgusting was informed that French distributor Le Pacte is recutting the first 10 minutes of Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher's post-apocalyptic zombie film La Horde (also know as The Horde) prior to its February 10th release in France (on 200 screens). Personally, I think it needs much more than the first 10 minutes reworked if horror fans in the States are going to enjoy it when IFC Films releases it later this year. I'm just sayin'. The film follows an end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies. Check out the trailer below.

When foreigners take a stab at an American film genre like zombies, my curiosity is always piqued. The Japanese tend to go a little nuts with their zombies, and the Europeans usually go for the laughs. The latest zombie epic from France, “The Horde” is straight up horror. Check out a two and a half minute clip from the movie that has surfaced online. “The Horde” pits cops and gangsters trapped in a building against a growing horde of zombies trying to make their way inside. Starring a bunch of French people you’ve never heard of, and directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher, who also wrote the screenplay. Via Allocine. The film is due out in France February 10, 2010, so don’t expect a Stateside release (probably on DVD) until then.
