Last year, Nathan Lane won his first Primetime Emmy Award for his guest-starring role as Teddy Dimas in the first season of the Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building.” After Teddy and his son Theo (James Caverly) landed in prison at the end of last season, Lane’s character returns to the Arconia apartment building where the series is set and unknowingly sparks trouble as his former friend Oliver (Emmy nominee Martin Short) questions the paternity of his son Will (Ryan Broussard). For his consequential return, Lane has earned another bid in the Best Comedy Guest Actor category and looks to defend his title.
Only one of last year’s contenders is back with him, namely, Sam Richardson for “Ted Lasso.” The rest of the category is rounded out by first-time nominees, past nominees and a returning champ. “The Bear” scored two bids for Jon Bernthal, his first, and Oliver Platt,...

Nearly three and a half years have gone by since it was announced that director André Øvredal and producer Guillermo del Toro were re-teaming for a sequel to their cinematic adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark series of books. A few months ago, Øvredal confirmed that Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 was still in the works and a script has been written, the project had just been slowed down by the pandemic, the making of his Dracula movie The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and this year’s Hollywood strikes. But now Collider has shared a quote from the producers that indicates there might be some kind of trouble behind the scenes…
The screenplay for Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark 2 has been written by the first film’s writers Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, working from a story crafted by del Toro.

‘The Family Plan’ Ending Explained & Movie Spoilers: Why Did Dan Agree To Work With Mccaffrey Again?
It’s been ages since I caught Mark Wahlberg in an action-packed role, and let me tell you, his latest film doesn’t disappoint. The Family Plan is an absolute must-watch. The film chronicles the exploits of Dan (Mark Wahlberg), an assassin turned family man, a guy who swapped guns and bombs for domestic bliss with his beautiful wife, Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), and a duo of teenagers, Nina (Zoe Margaret Colletti) and Kyle (Van Crosby), plus a newborn, Max, in the mix. Dan had traded in his high-stakes and dangerous job for a living as a car salesman. Dan is a superstar at his dealership, making sure everyone leaves with a smile after buying a car. Since he’s no longer an assassin, Dan has adopted a new mantra: no violence. This explains why he chose not to beat up the so-called bully for sharing his image online. Dan wasn...

Thrusting a cold, hard badass into a domestic setting is a tried-and-true set-up for a mediocre family comedy. Big muscular tough guys like Vin Diesel (playing a Navy-Seal-turned-babysitter in 2005’s “The Pacifier”), Dave Bautista (as a CIA agent looking after a nine-year-old girl in 2020’s “My Spy”), and Dwayne Johnson (as an NFL-player-turned-sudden-father in 2007’s “The Game Plan”) have all starred in movies that follow this dusty formula to a tee.
And every one of these films flounders largely because they rest on a single joke (isn’t it funny that someone so masculine is looking after kids) that isn’t actually all that funny.
To its slight credit, Apple TV+’s new film “The Family Plan” downplays that type of humor significantly; its sole sort of original idea is that its wayward badass Dan didn’t have his domestic life thrust upon him; he actively loves being a dad,...

The Family Plan Movie Review Out! (Picture Credit: IMDb)
What’s Good: Mark Wahlberg‘s performance is a standout, seamlessly transitioning between action and comedy. The chemistry between Wahlberg and Michelle Monaghan is palpable, contributing to the film’s likability. The concept of a family thrust into unexpected action adds a unique twist to the narrative.
What’s Bad: The film suffers from tonal inconsistencies, struggling to balance its comedic and action elements. Excessive and frenetic editing in the action scenes hampers their effectiveness. The script, while introducing entertaining concepts, falls short in execution, leaving some subplots feeling aimless and disconnected.
Loo Break: The poorly edited action sequences might provide a suitable moment for a quick bathroom break,...

Plot: Dan Morgan loves his quiet suburban life as a devoted husband, father of three and successful car salesman. But that’s only half the story. Decades earlier, he was an elite government assassin tasked with eliminating the world’s deadliest threats. When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife, angsty teen daughter, pro-gamer teen son and adorable 10-month-old baby into their minivan and takes off on an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas. Determined to protect his family — while treating them to the vacation of a lifetime — Dan must put his long-dormant skills into action, without revealing his true identity.

Would it have killed him to quit sit-ups for a few months? Maybe load up on some Häagen-Dazs? Famously, Mark Wahlberg wakes in the wee hours for a 3:30 a.m. workout — perhaps he could have treated himself to a five o’clock lie-in? Whatever the case, the star has made no concessions to dadbod reality in “The Family Plan.” Playing milquetoast car salesman Dan, a married father of three whom nobody knows used to be a high-level government assassin, he strips off early in proceedings — on a night of abortive anniversary lovemaking with his weary wife — to reveal a torso as jacked as the day is long. Yet those enviable xylophone abs run counter to the slim comic premise of Simon Cellan Jones’s formulaic shoot-’em-up: He’s a stone-cold killer, but everyone around him sees only a schlub.

Remember Marky Mark? If you’re under a certain age, probably not, and Mark Wahlberg has some fun with that notion in the new trailer for the upcoming Apple TV+ action-comedy The Family Plan.
In the film, Wahlberg plays a nice-guy suburban husband and father whose kids have no idea that he used to be a government assassin. The situation provides ample opportunity for lots of jokes about how incredulous the children are regarding their uncool dad’s formerly cool persona.
And if that’s not enough of a wink to viewers, Wahlberg actually does some rapping in the comedy. Watch the trailer above to see how director Simon Cellan Jones and writer David Coggeshall work that into the story.

"You're like James Bond in a minivan?" Apple TV has revealed an official trailer for The Family Plan, a big action comedy from the streaming network heading directly to streaming in December at the end of the year. No theatrical release for this one. How's this for a story we've seen so many times before that they're rehashing once again: A former top assassin living incognito as a suburban dad must take his unsuspecting family on the run when his past catches up to him. Isn't this similar to Taken or True Lies all over again? These picks leave off some of the more prominent Fall horror movies, like Sleepy Hollow (Max) or The Blair Witch Project (Paramount+), to pad your watchlists with less obvious choices.

Subtle details in costume design, hairstyling and even production design showed the growth and progression of Selena Gomez’s Mabel in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building.” Season 2 begins where the first left off — Mabel is the prime suspect after being found by the side of the dead body of Bunny, who lives in the same building as Mabel, Oliver (Martin Short) and Charles (Steve Martin).
When audiences were first introduced to Mabel in Season 1, she’s someone who is trying to protect herself. Costume designer Dana Covarrubias says, “I put her in chunky- soled boots and big puffy coats and jackets that create this sense of a protective armor around her.”
As the season progresses and she begins to connect with Oliver and Charles, she softens up. Solving a murder and being implicated in a murder brings the podcasting trio closer together.

“Only Murders in the Building” Season 3 has arrived, backed by several powerful new stars including Meryl Streep, Paul Rudd, Ashley Park and Jesse Williams. Rudd’s character Ben Glenroy first appeared in the Season 2 finale, suggesting he will be the murder victim for the third season of the Hulu comedy show when he collapsed on stage in the final minutes of last season.

Just last year Steve Martin’s best comedy actor SAG Award nomination for the inaugural season of “Only Murders in the Building” made him the oldest first-time contender in the history of the organization’s male TV categories. Now that he has been recognized for the Hulu series’s second batch of episodes, he has another chance to surpass Jeffrey Tambor as his solo category’s all-time oldest winner. At 77, he would also be the second oldest man to ever win any individual SAG Award for TV acting.

For the first time since Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” began, Steve Martin stands alone. At every televised awards ceremony since the true crime spoof started in 2021, Martin and co-star Martin Short had been nominated together for their performances as neighbors and unlikely amateur sleuths investigating murders in their posh New York City apartment building. They earned dual noms at this year’s Emmys, last year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards and Critics Choice TV Awards, and the Golden Globes for two years running. But this year, Critics Choice head-scratchingly left Short off its list, with Martin as sole nominee from the cast.
While the shocking snub of Short, Selena Gomez and the series at the Critics Choice Awards indicates a cooling-off of the show’s buzzy first season, might it actually clear a path for Martin to take home his first trophy for his charming straight man role of Charles-Haden Savage,...

“Gigi & Nate” begins with two leaps. The first is out of terror, when Gigi, a capuchin monkey at a sad-sack roadside petting zoo, tries to steer clear of her “caretaker.” The second is the sweet leap of boy-joy that 17-year-old Nate Gibson takes off a rocky ledge and into a pond. In this amiable, if unnecessarily manipulative, movie about the human-animal bond — as well as the different forms resilience can take — that fateful second leap will lead the young man and the monkey to each other.
Gigi is rescued by a woman who works for an organization that provides service animals to people with disabilities. Nate (played by British rising star Charlie Rowe) is initially not so fortunate. But I’ve honestly never come across anybody who has disliked the show, and that’s really saying something. The end of season one teased one doozy of a sophomore season, and now that it’s out in its entirety, I can confirm that season two of Only Murders in the Building is absolutely phenomenal,...

[Editor’s note: This article includes spoilers and the reveal of the killer from this season of “Only Murders in the Building.”]
This season of Hulu’s whodunit “Only Murders in the Building” offered up a bevy of potential murder suspects, including Amy Schumer. But in order to find out who killed Arconia owner Bunny Folger (Jayne Houdyshell), the audience had to go back to the beginning and the podcast that brought Charles Haden-Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) together in the first place: “Not Okay in Oklahoma.”
In a finale that played like a modernized take on the 1930s crime caper “The Thin Man” — complete with a fake murder — the audience discovered it was podcast creator Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey) assistant Poppy (Adina Verson), aka “Not Okay” crime subject Becky Butler, who killed Bunny. The reveal did a great job of tying Seasons 1 and 2 together, as well as giving the beleaguered podcast assistant a chance to tell her story.

This article contains plot recap and minor spoilers regarding Only Murders in the Building season 2.
Part of the charm of Only Murders in the Building is the sheer rewatchabilty of the show. Like any good mystery with twists and turns, going back to watch from the beginning and seeing how the writers misdirected you, or what clues they left, is just as enjoyable as trying to figure it out the first time you watched. The creators of Only Murders went one step further, giving you one more little clue each episode that you can look out for even before the action has started.
The creators of Only Murders turned to the title titans at Elastic, the filmmaking team behind the Game of Thrones intro sequence, to add to the mystery and leave an exciting new Easter egg in the opening credits each week. Sometimes, even if you discover the animated incongruity in each intro,...

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Only Murders in the Building” Season 2, Episode 8: “Hello Darkness.
“Only Murders in the Building” finds its happy place in happy mediums: the juxtaposition of humor and grief, laughter in between the tears and generational divisions that actually work to bridge disparities.
In its sophomore season’s eighth episode, the show once again plays with opposites, illuminating the central mystery that’s clouding the trio’s lives amid a New York City–wide blackout that’s affected their building. For co-creator, showrunner and executive producer John Hoffman, “Hello, Darkness” paradoxically yet intentionally offers rays of light and clarity — all framed against the backdrop of the stately (if overpriced) Arconia’s gloomy hidden passageways.
“It’s basically their rock bottom when they drop down and they say, ‘We’re lost in our own building,’ and feel at a loss between the three of them,” he told TheWrap.
