‘Honeymoonish’ Review: A Decent Romantic Comedy From The Land Of Khaleej Mimics Many Hollywood Films
Valentine’s Day has come and gone, and still, there are romantic movies and shows dropping on several Ott platforms that manage to cling to one’s heart. The whole point of a romantic comedy is to make the audience believe in the love and goodness of characters who would do anything for the people they care about. Over the years, Hollywood and Hindi movies have predominantly made us believe that love conquers all and that people will find what they are seeking eventually. Honeymoonish is the Netflix Middle East Original from Kuwait that chronicles the story of a newly married couple with two different motivations behind tying the knot. Released on April 29, 2024, this movie will pleasantly surprise you.

Mayim Bialik took to social media today to express her disappointment that more support for the Hamas hostages taken in the Oct. 7 raid was not expressed at the Oscars.
“Of course I have opinions about a lot of things that went down at the Oscars, both on the red carpet and on the stage, but here’s what I’m going to say: I sure wish every single human being at the Oscars would have worn a yellow ribbon to show support for Hamas immediately returning the hostages who have been held since they were seized from their homes on October 7- including American citizens. The cease fire offer on the table demands the return of captive women, elderly, and the injured. It has been rejected by Hamas. #BringThemHome“

Bassem Youssef is an Egyptian-American comedian, television host, and even a surgeon. He is best known for hosting Al Bernameg, a satirical news show that tackled Egyptian politics with humour. This was the first show of its kind in the region, and it became hugely popular, garnering millions of viewers weekly.
Bassem Youssef, a vocal supporter of Palestine, pulled no punches as he flayed Israel for its war in Gaza as civilian casualties continue to mount in the war-torn strip. Bassem Youssef’s career trajectory from a cardiothoracic surgeon to a renowned comedian and satirist is indeed remarkable. His ability to use humour to tackle sensitive political issues, particularly in the Middle East, has earned him a significant following and recognition on the global stage.
Youssef’s satirical approach, akin to Jon Stewart’s style, allows him to dissect complex political narratives and challenge authority with sharp wit and insight.

Ramy Youssef recently opened up about his experience directing the “Honeydew” episode of The Bear season two, which saw Lionel Boyce’s Marcus journey to Copenhagen to create three items for The Bear’s dessert menu.
The Poor Things star stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! and explained that while helming the episode, he and Boyce were able to spend a day working at Noma, which was voted the best restaurant in the world every year from 2010-12 and then again in 2014.

This April marks the 10-year anniversary of Bassem Youssef’s final telecast of Al Bernameg. At its apex, the Egyptian satirical news show drew 40 million viewers and prompted comparisons between its host/co-creator and Jon Stewart before ultimately proving too controversial to remain on the air — or for Youssef and his family to safely remain in Egypt. They relocated to Los Angeles in 2016, and he’s spent the years since recalibrating, booking occasional acting roles and working on his stand-up.
He says he’s gotten his comedy groove back, now selling out shows across the U.S. and Europe. But that’s not why Youssef has been in the news so much of late. Starting with a viral appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, during which Youssef visibly unsettled the host with his dark satire of Islamophobia and critique of the Israeli government’s then-fresh response to the Oct. 7 Hamas attack,...

The Oscars 2024 premiered recently and it was an awesome sight to see. This time, however, it wasn’t just an award-distribution ceremony as actors literally used the platform to spread their message and beliefs about the world.
With the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, several actors showed up at the Oscars wearing a red lapel pin. As per Rami Yousef, the pin signified their support for calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and the safe return of captives in the war-torn city!

Why Actors Wore A Red Lapel Pin To The Oscars
It was back in October when several artists collectively signed a letter asking President Joe Biden to ceasefire immediately in Gaza and release all the captives held in the city. Calls for peace and humanity were all around and were even further fueled by the involvement of several artists.

With the Oscars 2024 finally making history, this ceremony indeed felt different than the previous Oscars. Although Will Smith did slap Chris Rock almost two years ago, this year the Oscars were too competitive.
Christopher Nolan, Cillian Murphy, Margot Robbie, Emma Stone, and a plethora of actors were involved in the event. Some of the celebrities like Mahershala Ali and Billie Eilish were spotted wearing red lapel pins showcasing their support for the Israel-Gaza ceasefire!

The 2024 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The awards ceremony began with an emotional win for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and ended with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards. But there was plenty going on off-camera as well. From Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence hugging backstage to how John Cena went from practically naked to donning a toga, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 96th annual Academy Awards.
Snack Boxes for All
As per usual, Jimmy Kimmel brought his A-game to his Oscar-hosting gig — and some snacks. This year, the late night host provided snack boxes that included Shappy Pretzels and mustard, Mike & Ike’s, water and a note from the host that, “to keep the karma flowing,” they would be providing a donation to St. Joseph Center.

The stars are out in full force for the Oscars, and while everyone is curious to see what they’re wearing, many of the stars have an accessory in common with a meaningful red pin. For those wondering what it represents, it is a way for the attendees to show support for a ceasefire in Gaza as bombings continue. Among some of the guests who sported the pin were nominees Billie Eilish and brother Finneas O’Connell as well as Mark Ruffalo, and his Poor Things costar Ramy Youssef. Ceasefire pins among Oscar guests and nominees were numerous on this afternoon’s red carpet with Poor Things actor Ramy Youssef, Oscar nominated supporting actor Mark Ruffalo from that pic, as well as Barbie “What Was I Made For?” songwriting team Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell donning them.
Youssef told Deadline, “This is for Artists for Ceasefire” about the pin.
“We have a growing list of so many artists who want a permanent immediate ceasefire in Gaza,” the actor added.
“To get really universal about it, it’s about stop killing kids,” he continued.
“We’re using our voices to speak to people’s hearts,” he added, “we want people to have safety and justice.”
“It’s obvious something a lot of people have a lot of opinions about, and I think there can be a place and time to process feelings,” Youssef said, speaking about the divided political situation in Israel and Gaza.

Hundreds of protesters have shut down a major section of Hollywood during the Oscars red carpet, turning Hollywood’s biggest night into a traffic nightmare. With just a few minutes ahead of the telecast’s scheduled start time, much of the ballroom is uncharacteristically empty and people are running to their seats.
There was a growing sense of anxiety from production staffers and publicists on the red carpet that tonight’s Oscars will not start on time due to the gridlock. The broadcast itself kicked off five minutes late.
Protesters shut down Sunset Boulevard between Vine Street and La Brea Avenue. They marched down the street with signs that read “No awards for genocide” and drove school buses covered with Palestinian flags. Police ordered the protest to disperse and waited on Sunset Boulevard with battering rams.
Executives, such as Bob Iger, waited an hour to walk the red carpet due to the traffic jam.

“I’m done apologizing. I’m done saying that we’re peaceful,” Youssef says in the trailer. “For 20 years, we’ve had to prove to people that we’re safe. Every family has its own share of problems. From far away, they may seem quite ordinary, but on a closer look, we find how it deals with its unique issues and what a comedy of errors can stem from them. The new series Tahir’s House tells the story of a unique family, where each member has some idiosyncrasies, and there is little to no reconciliation between them. The result is that the family is never on the same page. In recent years, many shows have revolved around the intricacies of family dynamics, especially in comedies, and Tahir’s House presents us with a Saudi version of a crazy family with eclectic family members.
Tahir’s House‘ plot hinges on an herb named Habsa and the license to grow and sell it. Now, what Habsa does to men gets clearer over the course of the series, but it isn’t really that important ultimately.

The new Netflix series from Saudi Arabia, Tahir’s House, evokes many feelings, but one of them that stands out is that of familiality. The comedy series is haphazardly structured but ultimately turns out to be a lovable one. The story revolves around the Tahir family, which gets into trouble when, in order to save its store, it tries to do away with the fishing business and starts to trade in spices instead, especially trying to sell an herb that is known to remove ailments related to the male organ!
It’s not as whacky a comedy as the plotline might suggest it to be. The family dynamics are exaggerated only to a certain degree. It’s the interpersonal dynamics between the family members that create the necessary friction and make the comedy work. The characters are the heart of the series. Each one leaves a lasting impression. The Tahir house had its head in Jumaa,...
