In this edition of THR Frontrunners, Girls5Eva creator and showrunner Meredith Scardino and stars Renée Elise Goldsberry, Sara Bareilles, Busy Phillips and Paula Pell joined The Hollywood Reporter‘s Tyler Coates for a conversation about the third season of the Netflix comedy series at a live event hosted by the San Vincente Bungalows in Los Angeles.
“It was heavenly,” said Pell about the streamer picking up the series — the first two seasons of which aired on Peacock — for its third season. “It’s like art imitating life: Our characters have second chances.”
Scardino added that a lot of the comedy, which follows the exploits of a turn-of-the-millennium girl group who are thrust back into the spotlight decades later when a Gen-z rapper samples their pop hit, is sparked from the four stars’ incredible bond both on- and off-camera. “They have a joke that I have weekly meetings with their therapists,...

The balance between medical cases and touches of personal storylines continues.
The interns were mostly endearing during Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 7, but the connections to the medical cases were most compelling.
If it slipped anyone's mind that the new batch of interns has shades of the Og interns, then this installment was a reminder of how much Simone Griffith is her class' Meredith Grey.
Most of the season has focused on the interns simply navigating life at Grey Sloan.
And sometimes, we don't delve into their personal elements nearly as much as we should.
The balance between giving us more insight into these new characters and providing surface-level connections to medical cases has been challenging.
But the installment revisited not only the pain of Simone dealing with a grandmother with dementia who still looks at Simione and sees the daughter she lost but also Simone's harrowing backstory.

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
Seldom have audiences been treated to a “requel” as exceptional as X-Men ‘97. Critics and fans alike have had nothing but praise for the show, and how it has taken a Saturday morning staple and elevated almost every aspect of production, storytelling, and acting.
When other reboots attempt to cater to a mixed-generation audience, they often have to let the legacy characters (those actors from the original property) share screen time with a new generation. X-Men ‘97 was in a unique position to bring back the original voice cast as if no time had gone by whatsoever.
Lenore Zann, returning as the sassy southerner Rogue, has had plenty of time to evolve outside of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, and that has given her a new perspective on portraying the iconic X-Woman, especially as the character herself has changed. In X-Men ’97, Rogue...

The content that will be accessible includes “time-tested recipes, expert health and financial information, leading style and entertainment content, and rigorous product reviews.” ChatGPT will display content and links in its responses.
The companies will also work together in other areas, including integrating OpenAI tech into Ddm’s cookieless ad-targeting solution and working “to create new AI products and features for its readers and use historical and ongoing Ddm content to enhance its model’s performance.”
Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Twenty years is a long time -- for a relationship or a TV series like Grey's Anatomy. Just when you think there's nothing more to do, surprise!
Fans continue to tune into Grey's every season for the latest medical cases, relationship drama, and robust storytelling.
We don't get as much Meredith these days, but there is still enough to satisfy viewers, including the relationship mishaps with her new love interest.
While the show doesn't have the same pizzazz and character compatibility as it did in the early years, there is plenty of relationship messiness to entice fans.
But no matter how great -- or bad -- things get at Gsm, some relationships have happened in the last 20 years that fans will never forget. And some never got the ending they deserve.
Here is a list of our favorite on-screen Grey's Anatomy 'ships of all time.

A member of the kitchen staff at the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi in Florence, Italy must be a big fan of The Office!
Actor Rainn Wilson was staying at the hotel when he ordered room service. If you don’t know, Rainn famously portrayed Dwight on the fan favorite NBC series. In the very first episode of The Office, Jim (portrayed by John Krasinski) puts Dwight’s stapler in a Jell-o mold. This infuriates Dwight, and establishes Jim and Dwight’s contentious relationship throughout the series.

Since 1980, horror and sci fi fans have loved being scared by the Xenomorph and the soulless Weyland-Yutani corporation that wants to study it. Nearly everyone has controversial takes on various films in the franchise: "Prometheus" and Assembly Cut "Alien 3" fans, rise up. "Alien: Covenant" fans, look... we respect you, but that movie makes it tough. But no matter where you land, we're all in love with Ridley Scott's original "Alien." It's a love that's seen high school performances turn into breakout hits, and April 26th (chosen for the Lv-426 colony in "Aliens") become a fandom holiday.
We're always looking for more to explore from the franchise, although sometimes that desire turns into a be-careful-what-you-wish-for "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem" situation. Despite the valleys of the "Alien" franchise, we're still hoping for the best from the upcoming "Alien: Romulus" and Noah Hawley's forthcoming TV series from FX. Meanwhile, we...

Shonda Rhimes took a moment to reflect on meeting Taylor Swift for the first time in her Grey’s Anatomy office before her song, “White Horse,” was used at the beginning of season five of the hit ABC series.
In a conversation with People for its special Grey’s issue, the showrunner recalled when the Grammy-winning artist came by her office and performed her popular song, “Love Story,” in 2008.
“I remember she was an interesting artist,” Rhimes told the publication. “It’s so funny because, back then, she showed up in my office with bare feet. She went off and played ‘Love Story’ and was like, ‘I really love your show.’ I had no idea who she was. I was like, ‘This kid’s adorable. Like, I love this song. The song was really good.’”

Simone and Blue had an emotional case.
Mer was back with a health scare involving one of her children, and the situation challenged her and Nick on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 5.
Also, are Jo and Link on the path toward planning a family? And should they?
TV Fanatics Hailey White Whitmire, Sara Trimble, and Lucy Peel are ready to unpack another hour of the series.

Jo is Not pregnant. What did you think of this storyline and her desire to have a child with Link in the future? Are you for or against it?
Haley: I'd love to see them have a baby together, and I actually thought Link's reaction was odd.
I could have sworn that he and Amelia broke up because he wanted more kids, and she didn't. Did I imagine that? I'm kind of over the fakeout pregnancy scare, though. It's all so predictable.

And I repeat, Jolink have become that annoyingly happy couple that either endears or nauseates with no in-between.
But alas, their shenanigans were nothing if not entertaining and slightly comical on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 5, as the hour brought some more tension and drama among characters and was mostly case-focused.
Meredith's appearance brought a touch of nostalgia and a Derek Mention, but alas, we've reached a point where she's not the be-all of a show that used to be hers.
Whether or not that's a good thing remains to be seen, but given that Grey's Anatomy will likely outlive us all, I'm leaning toward it being great that it has found a way to carry on without her.
And sometimes, her presence within an hour is so insignificant and distracting she needn't be there at all.
For starters, one of the issues with Meredith Grey is that we rarely...

When I saw the first black-and-white still of Andrew Scott in and as “Ripley,” I was sold — and I know I’m not alone.
The 47-year-old actor might seem like an unexpected choice to step into the shoes of Tom Ripley, but for anyone following his career, it could not have been a more perfect casting or welcome treat. From the very first moments, Steve Zaillian’s “Ripley” is one of those projects that hinges entirely upon its lead actor, a vehicle for Mr. Ripley’s talents that buoys sharp direction, artistic choices, and lush cinematography in its wake.
As for casting the man last seen on TV as Hot Priest in the role of a known sociopath (though Scott and Zaillian dislike labeling their antihero), we must turn to Tumblr. With Instagram in its infancy and TikTok still years away, Twitter and Tumblr were the arenas for Andrew Scott...

Grey’s Anatomy is one of the longest running primetime dramas on television. Over the course of the past 20 seasons of Grey’s, fans have seen a lot of cast members come and go. Grey’s Anatomy has withstood the test of time. In fact, we were all a little shocked when the hospital drama was renewed for a 21st season. Not that it didn’t deserve a renewal, but all good shows must come to an end at some point. And, a lot of the main cast members have jumped ship over the years.

Another week, another traumatic episode of a Shonda Rhimes show that centers around a vulnerable group.
On Station 19 Season 7 Episode 3, the firehouse fam attends a Pride parade to celebrate Seattle's LGBTQ+ community. For a full recap and review, check out TV Fanatic Jasmine Blu's expert take on True Colors!
During the Pride parade, a car backfires, the sound is mistaken for a gunshot, and chaos erupts. As painful as it is, this is an entirely predictable series of events because Shondaland loves to give marginalized communities a tragedy to rally around.
Don't get us wrong. We love this universe. Everything Shonda Rhimes touches turns to gold.
But we'd be remiss if we ignored the fact that sometimes it's hard to stomach some of the painful storylines vulnerable communities have to endure in the worlds she builds.
Looking back on the history of Shonda's television empire, it's clear that this isn't a new phenomenon.

It looks like the perennially photogenic staff at Seattle General won't be hanging up their scrubs anytime soon.
ABC announced today that Grey's Anatomy has been renewed for a 21st season.
It's historic news for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that Grey's has once again cemented its place as the longest-running scripted series in ABC history.
It's also the longest-running medical drama in TV history, and only a few other dramas of any category have it beat.
With its 21st season, Grey's will take the number three spot away from Gunsmoke, and only two Law & Order series (the original and Svu) have enjoyed longer tenures.
So yeah, Meredith and company have been with us for a very long time.
And with Grey's Anatomy Season 20 earning positive reviews for new showrunner Meg Marinis, there's no telling how much longer the series may stick around.

Stabler, Bell, and the rest of the Law & Order: Organized Crime crew might be wrapping up their final case soon.
Law & Order: Organized Crime's future is in doubt after NBC renewed the two other Law & Order shows and the One Chicago franchise without making a decision about this series.
They haven't canceled it outright, but this delay in renewal and last year's decision to order only half a season of Law & Order: Organized Crime are signs that NBC may be leaning toward cancellation, which would be a shame.
Law & Order: Organized Crime's ratings have never been as high as its sister shows. There are a few possible reasons for that.
The most obvious is that it airs at 10/9c, which may be too late for some viewers.

X-Men ’97 was a treat for every Marvel fan. The show has successfully recreated the nostalgia, thanks to Marvel boss Kevin Feige who insisted the show must bring the original cast of Fox show, X-Men: The Animated Series. It makes sense as X-Men ‘97 was the continuation of the classic animated show in the ’90s.
Rogue with Magneto in X-Men ’97
Lenore Zann who played Anna Marie a.k.a. Rogue in both the series alongside Cal Dodd’s Wolverine revealed that they had to go through the audition process again despite their almost confirmed reprisal of their roles. Fan-favorite Gambit actor A.J. LoCascio also joined Zann and Dodd in the process.

Entrepreneur and model Karlie Kloss, alongside her husband, billionaire investor Joshua Kushner, have embarked on a mission to resurrect the renowned Life magazine after more than two decades of dormancy.
Joshua is the brother of former White House aide Jared Kushner.
Life Magazine, which was a popular weekly publication from 1936 until Time Inc. ceased its regular publication in 1972, experienced a revival in 1978 as a monthly magazine before being suspended again in 2000.
Now, under the ownership of Bedford Media, the publication is poised to reclaim its prominent position in the media landscape.
The groundbreaking announcement came from Kloss and Kushner’s Bedford Media, in which a partnership with Dotdash Meredith was revealed. Things are messy with a capital "M" at Grey Sloan Memorial.
Turmoil abounds as relationships have splintered, secrecy looms, and trouble is right around the corner on Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 3.
Let the record show that presently, a girl wants to wrap Yasuda and Levi up in a blanket and hold them because they had a tough installment.
So did Teddy, but she mainly seemed okay with it all, even though she faceplanted on a treadmill like Maya Bishop.
Seriously, what is up with the Grey's Universe and treadmills? In conclusion, exercising is the worst.
Meredith was back for this installment, but if it was one time when her presence seemed a bit off and unnecessary, it was this one.
It felt like the scenes she appeared in could've gotten put into a much bigger episode that pushed the Alzheimers plot and her penchant for going rogue to the forefront.

9-1-1 fans can breathe a massive sigh of relief after Thursday’s conclusion to the season’s three-part premiere, now that Bobby and Athena are finally back on land — and back in the saddle. (Bow-chicka-bow-wow!)
Of course, not everyone fared quite as well as the 118’s Mom and Dad this week. For starters, remember that guy who “just wanted to cash out” on the ship? Well, he cashed out all right… from life. He was the episode’s first official victim, leaving just a handful of survivors to make their way off the boat.

Wednesday’s episode of Survivor was one for the record books for a multitude of reasons. Most importantly: Yanu didn’t go to Tribal Council!
Yes, I’ve hopped over about 40 minutes of footage here — and no offense to Q, Kenzie or Tiffany — but I’m tired of seeing their faces sitting in those Tribal Council stumps! Let someone else spend some quality time with Jeff already! Rude.

With so few episodes in the season, should we have more plot movement?
It's one of many questions that crossed our round table's mind after Grey's Anatomy Season 20 Episode 2.
It was an episode in which very little happened to move the plot along, but Lucas and Simone called it quits, and a lonely Amelia bounced around.
Join TV Fanatics Haley Whitmire White, Lucy Peel, and Jasmine Blu as they break down the hour.
Join the discussion below!
How do you feel about this episode and the minimal plot development? Do you enjoy episodes that focus on cases and character-building?
Haley: It's funny — while I was watching it, I was taking mental notes in preparation for our round table, and I was thinking, "Wow, this episode is Boring."
Normally, I'm fine with episodes that bring us into the Grey's universe without any dramatic events, but come on, it's a short season!

Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation" is his masterpiece in between masterpieces. The legendary filmmaker wrapped principal photography in late February 1973, just one month before he would win the Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars for "The Godfather" (Albert Ruddy took home the Best Picture Oscar as the mafia classic's producer). Had Paramount released the film that year, it almost certainly would've received nominations for Best Picture and Director (over the wholly forgotten "A Touch of Class"), giving Coppola three consecutive nods in the latter category, a feat only accomplished once in Academy Awards history (by William Wyler). Instead, he wound up competing against himself a year later, when he added three more Oscars to his trophy case with "The Godfather Part II."
While "The Godfather" movies placed him atop Hollywood's director A-list for the rest of the decade, some cinephiles believe "The Conversation" is the superior film. The...

Stabler's family is falling apart, but at least he knocked someone else's corrupt father off his throne.
Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 8 featured the powerful end of the Bonner saga alongside Bernie's move out of Stabler's home -- and an equally tragic secret she's been holding onto forever.
The dialogue and deep emotion made the hour feel more like the last act of a classic film than an episodic TV show. What a fantastic story!
Meredith Bonner's struggle with guilt and pain was fascinating. This character began as a corrupt police chief who had Stabler arrested to get him out of her way, but she didn't seem like the same person anymore.
Losing her brother and realizing what enabling her father had gotten her opened her eyes, and she became the heroine she should have been all along instead of part of the problem.
Meredith was a tragic figure.

Grey’s Anatomy has been operating on our hearts since 2005. Over the past 20 seasons, the couples inside Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital have made us laugh, made us cry (a lot), and made us cheer. The long-running ABC series is a medical drama, of course, but we’ve stuck around all these years because of the relationships. The opening scene of Grey’s Anatomy was Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) waking up next to Derek (Patrick Dempsey). Romance has always been at the forefront of the show. Meredith and Derek’s highs and lows had us glued to the TV for seasons. Never forget Addison’s (Kate Walsh) iconic entrance and how she threw a wrench in Meredith and Derek’s romance. While MerDer’s relationship wasn’t endgame (Rip Derek), fans did get the chance to see them together again during Meredith’s beach dreams as she battled Covid-19 in Season 17. And Grey’s Anatomy...

When Wednesday’s Survivor kicks off, Bhanu is still flapping his gums, only this time he’s being honest with his tribe about what he spilled during his Journey. Tiffany is rightfully peeved. In one fell swoop, Bhanu threatened all of his tribemates’ games. The truly rich part: He doesn’t even understand why what he said was wrong! The whole debacle leads Kenzie to wonder why the guy even came on the show when clearly he doesn’t know how to play. “He could’ve just gone camping!” she says. Can’t argue with that. No notes.

You think you know… but you have no idea. That might be the memorable tagline of MTV’s 2000s-era docuseries “Diary,” but it applies to Apple TV+’s newest program, too.
The seven-episode ”Manhunt” tells the incredible story of the search for John Wilkes Booth (portrayed by Irish actor Anthony Boyle) in the aftermath of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln (Hamish Linklater). The limited series, of which the first two episodes are now streaming, is adapted from James L. Swanson’s book “Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer,” and while it’s a historical drama, it’s anything but dry. Described by Apple as a conspiracy thriller about one of America’s best known but least understood crimes, the show also has a perfectly deployed sense of humor, making it more than meets the eye.

This article contains spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy.
From the moment that we first meet Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in the series premiere of Grey’s Anatomy, we know that she takes her job incredibly seriously. As the resident in charge of a new batch of interns, she has a huge responsibility to help shape the next generation of surgeons into the best version of themselves. And now, nearly 20 years later, Grey’s Anatomy has brought Bailey back into this teaching role as the head of Grey Sloan’s Residency Program.
Dr. Bailey has come a long way since we first met her almost two decades ago. She’s gone from shaping surgeons like Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) into the best in their fields to becoming Chief of Surgery at Grey Sloan to winning the prestigious Catherine Fox award for her work in reproductive health care.

The erratic Leprechaun franchise is not known for sticking with a single concept for too long. The namesake (originally played by Warwick Davis) has gone to L.A., Las Vegas, space, and the ‘hood (not once but twice). And after an eleven-year holiday since the Davis era ended, the character received a drastic makeover in a now-unmentionable reboot. The critical failure of said film would have implied it was time to pack away the green top hat and shillelagh, and say goodbye to the nefarious imp. Instead, the Leprechaun series tried its luck again.
The general consensus for the Leprechaun films was never positive, and the darker yet blander Leprechaun: Origins certainly did not sway opinions. Just because the 2014 installment took itself seriously did not mean viewers would. After all, creator Mark Jones conceived a gruesome horror-comedy back in the early nineties, and that format is what was expected of any future ventures.

This article contains spoilers through Grey’s Anatomy season 17.
Dr. Alex Karev, brought to life by Justin Chambers, is one of Grey’s Anatomy’s most dynamic characters, permanently leaving a mark on the series even after his exit. While he started off as a jerk back in season one, he quickly became a fan favorite as we peeled back the layers of who he actually was.
Against all odds, he didn’t just survive his time at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, but thrived. Not only was he Meredith’s person after Cristina left, but he was there for all other characters when they needed someone over the years. Then entered Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), who he fell deeply in love with and eventually married. So why did he suddenly leave in season 16 and why was it such an awful ending for the character? Let’s break it down.

Captain Cragen's appearance was a too-short blast from the past.
During the final minutes of Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 7, he told Bell about the corruption behind Stabler's suspension.
This is only the beginning of this story, but will Cragen have any more screen time as it progresses?
Cragen is retired, so it doesn't make sense for him to have a huge part, but he should have had something more, given all the hype around his appearance.
Still, he gave Bell some vital info about the Iab agent in charge of Stabler's reinstatement. The guy was biased from the get-go, but now we have a motive and a suggestion that Iab is as compromised as any organized crime family Elliot Stabler has ever taken down.

In her Season 20 preview for Deadline, new Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis called it “back to basics,” and the season premiere, which she wrote, offered just that. In a return to Grey’s early years, the episode ended with Bailey retaking charge of the surgical interns.
The opener started with the interns facing the music after getting themselves in trouble with questionable medical decisions in the Season 19 finale and Nick posing a question to them, “Which one of you am I firing?”
Banned from any doctor duties, the group find themselves in the middle of the action anyway. Simone and Lucas end up in the back of an ambulance trying to stabilize a patient with Bailey and Meredith’s directions while their parked vehicle is being hit by a wayward self-driving car every couple of minutes. (It is unclear why the ambulance was not moved away from the crashing car.

Thursday’s Season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy brought Bailey full circle.
As soon as Nick revealed to his motley crew of interns that he was outta there — Mer and Boston beckoned — he introduced his replacement, the former chief who first rattled off her “five rules” to residents in the long-running drama’s very first episode. “It’s a perfect moment,” says showrunner Meg Marinis. Agreed.

In Thursday’s Season 20 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy (recapped here), Meredith told Catherine that she’d won. Grey would give up her controversial Alzheimer’s research. And if that didn’t sound like the rebel that we know and love, there was a perfectly good reason for it: She was lying through her teeth. In the final moments of the episode, she recruited sister-in-law Amelia keep going with the work in secret.
“It’s not going to go as easy as they hope. Secret research is never smooth,” showrunner Meg Marinis tells TVLine with a laugh. “There will be challenges.

Note: This story contains spoilers from the “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 20 premiere.
“Grey’s Anatomy” hit the reset button in the aftermath of its traumatic Season 19 finale, including the exit of one of their own. By the end of the Season 20 premiere, Dr. Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) announced he’d be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial to reunite with Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) at her new home in Boston.
His last move as residency director was passing the torch to the now Catherine Fox award-winning Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), effectively bringing the series back to basics with her taking charge of teaching the hospital’s latest class of interns.
“I feel like if anyone can bring these interns back from what just happened, it’s the person who helped create doctors like Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang and Alex Karev,” showrunner Meg Marinis told TheWrap. “Bailey doesn’t always get the credit that she deserves.

Grey’s Anatomy producer and writer Meg Marinis was asked how many episodes Ellen Pompeo will be featured in during season 20.
As fans of the show will know, Ellen stepped away from the show as a full time cast member last year (and you can find out the reason why right here).
Keep reading to find out more…
The answer is two-fold: Ellen‘s voice will be heard in every episode as she provides the voiceovers for the show!
Meg also shared, “Her status is that she’s always a huge part of the show….But we have an open door policy with her. When she is able to be here, we welcome her with open arms. We work with her schedule, she still does the voiceover. She was a huge part of the premiere for me, she and I have a great relationship. She’s constantly in my head, her voice.
