“Like one of the balloon chasers in ‘Balomania,’ we’ve been tracking Sissel Morell Dargis’ film through its production, and now we’re thrilled to be partnering with House of Real and Polar Star Films. Aussie documentary short Last Meal, directed by Marcus McKenzie and Daniel Principe, has been selected for Tribeca at Home, the online component of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
From Adelaide production company Cinemache, the film investigates the morality of capital punishment through the final feasts of death row prisoners.
Narrated by Hugh Ross (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford), the hybird blends stylised “food porn” with carefully curated archival footage of serial killers, terrorists and the wrongly accused, shining a light on the individuals and institutions meting out capital punishment.
“Daniel and I wanted to make a film which could speak to a broad festival audience on ideas of capital punishment and social justice, and Tribeca has offered us an incredible platform to share our message,” McKenzie tells If.
“It is tempting to release a film online to viewers that are already aligned with your beliefs,...

Our last few posts have really sparked a great conversation and it seems to be one of definition. Not just of micro’s structure, but definition of our stance on art vs. commerce, and our perspective of micro’s purpose. A while back I made a half-joke on this column that someone should write a manifesto for micro-budget filmmakers. The more I thought about what it would contain, the more I realized I was writing one of my own. I immediately contacted one of our column alums Jamie Heinrich. Jamie is in the process of financing and shooting his next feature via Kickstarter and it seemed like a perfect fit to try and come up with something together. (More on that later) But…while working on this idea I got an out-of-the-blue answer to my challenge by another group of filmmakers, brothers actually. Paul and Dan Cantagallo are micro-budget filmmakers...
