Sanjay Dutt & John Abraham Were Offered The Lead Roles In Baahubali! (Picture Credit: Instagram & IMDb)
SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus, Baahubali, is a part of history. The film made Prabhas a superstar overnight, and Baahuabali became synonymous with the actor. Similarly, the other actors from the film turned superstars. Be it Sathyaraj who played Katappa and the entire nation wanted to know Katappa ne Baahubali ko kyun maara or be it Ramya Krishnan as Rajmata who roared Mera Vachan Hi Hai Mera Shasan.
The film that was made in two parts took a lot of time to be made, and all the actors committed to the long schedules, sacrificing many months of their careers and lives. However, this commitment was something that not everyone could fulfill.

"Rrr" was the biggest cinematic event of 2022, a movie that had people spontaneously dancing in theater aisles, and a movie that gave us a better friendship in three hours than the "Fast & Furious" franchise has in ten movies.
Director S.S. Rajamouli, who had already built his career on making epic movies like "Magadheera" and the two-part "Baahubali," which combined myth and reality with stunning action and a massive sense of scale, dialed up the maximalism in every way with "Rrr."
The film follows two storylines that merge, tracking Bheem (Jr. Ntr), a warrior looking for a young girl who was kidnapped from his village, and Raju (Ram Charan), an officer in the British Army tasked with finding Bheem before he can wreak havoc on the British Raj. Though on opposite sides of the conflict, the two men quickly strike a beautiful friendship -- one strong enough to take down entire empires.

The sheer popularity of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi) is leading to its expansion this year, while sister event Film Bazaar, South Asia’s largest content market, will have a focus on new technology, one of the country’s top film officials has revealed.
The Indian government-backed events run in parallel in Goa in November each year in close geographic proximity.
In 2022, demand for tickets at the public-facing Iffi was so strong that reservations had to be paused on the second day of the festival. “We are trying to expand Iffi to such a scale where we will be able to accommodate more films, more people, more venues,” Prithul Kumar, Joint Secretary, Films, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and MD, National Film Development Corporation, told Variety. Efforts are on to add at least three more venues, Kumar said.

TollywoodThe actor said that though he has a few projects in India as of now, he is looking forward to working outside India as well.Ahead of the Oscar award ceremony to be held on March 12 in Los Angeles, Tollywood actor Ram Charan is all busy interacting with the press and sharing his experiences with media houses in New York. In a recent video interview with ABC News, Ram Charan said that he has learned from SS Rajamouli, the director of Rrr, that cinema doesn't have a language, and that it is the emotion that makes a film what it is. Rrr (2022) is a Telugu-language action drama set in the backdrop of the pre-independence era, revolving around two fictional freedom fighters, Alluri Seetharama Raju and Komaram Bheem. The film was very well-received both in and outside of India, and the popular song ‘Naatu Naatu’ won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes.

Hyderabad, Feb 18 (Ians) Well-known filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has said that he is not sure if he would direct a film on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the script of which has been penned by his father and Rajya Sabha MP, Vijayendra Prasad.
In an interview to an international publication, the ‘Rrr’ and ‘Baahubali’ director said while he would be honoured to direct the story, he is not sure if his father had written this script for some other organisation or producer.
Terming the story as a beautiful, human and emotional drama, Rajamouli also revealed that he cried many times while reading it.
Vijayendra Prasad, who had written the stories for the blockbusters ‘Rrr’ and ‘Baahubali’, is currently working on a film about the RSS.
Prasad, who is a member of Rajya Sabha, had said in August last year that that he was going to helm both a film and a web series glorifying the RSS.

CinemaRajamouli also talked about his views on his father Vijayendra Prasad writing a film glorifying RSS among other political subjects. SS Rajamouli/File PhotoFilmmaker SS Rajamouli has responded to the criticism of Hindu nationalist overtones and casteist, Brahminical narratives in his blockbuster film Rrr in an interview with The New Yorker. Rajamouli also talked about his views on the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bjp), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), atheism, caste, the impact of rising nationalist sentiments on cinema in India, his father Vijayendra Prasad writing a film glorifying RSS and many other political matters. The interview sets the context by noting that Rajamouli belongs to a dominant caste, the Kamma community. While Rrr has become a massive success beyond the Telugu states and India and won several awards in the United States, it has been criticised for portraying two real-life revolutionary leaders — Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem — with religious and nationalist tones.

Jason Blum is predicting this year’s Best Picture winner.
The Blumhouse founder and “M3GAN” mega-producer tweeted that S.S. Rajamouli’s historical epic “Rrr” will take home the 2023 Oscar for Best Picture.
“I’m going with ‘Rrr’ winning best pic,” Blum tweeted. “You heard it here first. Mark it down, please. If I’m right, I am awarding myself my own Oscar.”
Blum added, “It’s Rrr time. Don’t miss it. And no I’m not involved in any way. Nor do I know anyone associated with the movie. Just see it.”
“Rrr” centers on real-life revolutionaries Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan), who fight for freedom from the British in the 1920s. Yet the Telugu-language epic was snubbed by India during the Oscar submissions, with the Film Federation of India instead endorsing the autobiographical drama “Last Film Show” about a young boy’s love of movies.

The ‘Variety’ editor responsible for making the Hollywood bible’s predictions for the Oscars and Emmys has a lot of good news for the makers of ‘Rrr’.
If Clayton Davis had the casting vote at the Academy, ‘Rrr’ would be a close runner-up to ‘Close’, Lukas Ghont’s 2022 Cannes Grand Prix-winning coming-of-age movie, in the Best Picture and the International Feature categories.
And if Davis were the God of All Things at the Academy, music composer M.M. Keeravaani, along with playback singers Suddala Ashok Teja and Kala Bhairava, would come home with the Oscar for ‘Komuram Bheemudo ‘, staving off a challenge from ‘Naatu Naatu’.
The period drama’s director, S.S. Rajamouli, is in the running for Best Director, but he gets an honourable mention, in a field topped by Todd Field, the helmer of the highly anticipated film, ‘Tar’.

‘Rrr’ director S S Rajamouli says the sequel to his blockbuster action hit is well underway, reports ‘Variety’. The filmmaker, who’s at this moment in the throes of his campaign for an Oscar, informed ‘Variety’ that his father and screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad is “seriously working on the story”, with his revolutionary heroes set to return for another epic battle with the colonising Brits.
The three-hour action-musical epic has been in the news for earning two Golden Globe nominations last week, for original song for the track ‘Naatu Naatu’ as well as best non-English language film. Rajamouli was also awarded best director by the New York Film Critics Circle.
The ‘Rrr’ helmer informed ‘Variety’ that a sequel wasn’t initially on the cards but has become more of a prospect as the film has found international success.
“When we were making it, we didn’t have an idea about [a sequel],” he said.

One of the great joys in my movie-going life was seeing the epic Indian action movie "Rrr" at Chicago's Music Box Theatre in its original Telugu language with a jam-packed house of raucous fans. The vibe in that room on that November evening, which was months after the initial theatrical run, an encore engagement, and a Netflix release, was so joyous. It was truly a celebration of cinema. Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli was even in attendance to participate in a post-film Q&a, where he expressed that he was blown away by the overwhelmingly positive reaction of this historical fiction about friendship and revolution.
In addition to discussing his filmmaking process and further offering his gratitude for the warm reception in the Windy City and all over the world, Rajamouli revealed that talks of a sequel had begun. At that time, the conversations were purely preliminary, but his father and story...

When the 2020 Oscar for original screenplay went to South Korea’s “Parasite” scribes, some were surprised, but they should not have been; the Academy has long been open to foreign-language contenders in all categories. As early as 1947, when the writing categories were a bit different, the Italian screenwriters Sergio Amidei and Federico Fellini nabbed a nomination for “Open City,” as did French scribe Jacques Prévert for “Children of Paradise.”
While during the 1940s and 1950s, barely a handful of foreign-language films reached the nomination stage for writing awards, by the 1960s, every year saw at least one non-English-speaking nominee, and some years, a whopping three. 1962 marked the first Oscar win for international scribes, with Ennio de Concini, Alfredo Gianetti and Pietro Germi claiming it for “Divorce Italian Style.” And in 1966, French screenwriters Claude Lelouch and Pierre Uytterhoeven nabbed a statuette for “A Man and a Woman.”

There's no question: "Rrr" is one of the best films of the year. We at /Film called it a "maximalist epic that puts Hollywood blockbusters to shame." While I can't speak for everyone on staff, I will firmly agree with these sentiments with my whole chest. S. S. Rajamouli's untouchable masterpiece has been captivating audiences all across the globe, thanks to the striking visuals and the historical-fiction saga co-written by V. Vijayendra Prasad of two legendary revolutionaries on the journey of a lifetime that leads to fighting against British colonialists in the 1920s. Despite its over 3-hour runtime, "Rrr" is jam-packed with so many unbelievable moments we cannot believe exist, and are certainly begging the Academy to do the right thing by giving "Rrr" as many Oscar nominations as humanly possible.

In a candid on-stage presentation at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (Iffi) in Goa, “Rrr” screenwriter, V. Vijayendra Prasad discussed looking to Indian epics for story inspiration.
Prasad was speaking on Tuesday at a well-attended session titled ‘The Master’s Writing Process’ that reviewed the octogenarian’s Telugu and Hindi language filmography. This includes “Magadheera,” “Bahubali,” “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” – and current hit “Rrr,” which was failed to be picked as India’s Oscar contender but is nevertheless a favorite to join the Academy Awards race.
“I go to our epics for inspiration,” he said, referencing the Indian epics “Mahabharata” and “Ramayana,” said Prasad. He argued that while there are no new stories, there are many emotions and ingredients which are reused and rewritten.

Prasad began screenwriting in his late 40s, motivated by “hunger.” Watching films was his film school. “I needed a shortcut to learn the craft.

Veteran screenwriter K V Vijayendra Prasad, who has penned the scripts for epic films like ‘Baahubali’, ‘Rrr’ and ‘Magadheera’, has said that he does not write stories but “steals” them. Vijayendra Prasad, who is the father of director S S Rajamouli, was recently felicitated at the ongoing 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India (Iffi).
According to a report, talking about how he started his journey, he said: “I did everything possible to earn a living including agriculture before becoming a writer. The writing came much later in life.”
During a workshop, he also talked about his screenwriting style. He mentioned that he always thinks of a twist at the interval and organises the story accordingly.

Blasting into the public consciousness this year, S.S. Rajamouli’s bombastic, three-hour-long, Telugu-language, musical action epic Rrr has naturally received plenty of attention and kudos. It's perhaps not a surprise — though you do wonder what is left to include — that Rajamouli is developing a sequel.
As first reported by The Film Stage, the director attended a screening event in Chicago this weekend and revealed the latest news on a follow-up.
