Skins debuted on E4 10 years ago. We revisit a bold and unique adolescent drama that kick-started countless careers...
It’s been a decade since Skins, E4’s controversial teen drama, premiered. At the time, it was a source of anxiety for parents about what teenagers were getting up to when they weren’t looking, but for television executives it was pure gold. It achieved that rare feat - it got young people to watch and talk about it - and, after seven years of drinking, drugs and general debauchery, it bowed out in 2013.

Now it’s simply another teen drama of the past, perhaps remembered by most for the real-world ‘Skins Parties’ it inspired rather than the steps it took or the ground it broke. Whether it was casting complete unknowns,...

Here's one of those 'This'll make you feel old' factoids - it's two years since the last ever episode of Skins aired.
E4's groundbreaking hormone-fest wrapped up on August 5, 2013 - with an older Cook (Jack O'Connell) heading off into an uncertain future at the close of 'Rise (Part Two)'.
Cook was but one of 27 major characters featured on Skins across three 'Generations' - in a total of 61 episodes, split into seven series. But where are the teen tearaways of Roundview College now?
Generation One
1. Nicholas Hoult
Hoult played Tony Stonem - the pre-eminent bad boy of Skins - across its first two series. Later badly hurt in a traffic accident and forced to rely on others, Tony had mellowed by his final episodes.
Now aged 25, Hoult has become a bona-fide Hollywood star with roles in this year's Mad Max: Fury Road and the much-anticipated book adaptations Dark Places and Kill Your Friends.

At first glance, Jack the Giant Slayer might look like the kind of blockbuster that agents for an up-and-coming actor like Nicholas Hoult would sell him on by saying, "I know it's no X-Men, but the studio's behind it and you'll make some good cash!" But it turns out that this is much more than just a payday for Hoult: This project is the culmination of one of his lifelong passions. No, not swordplay or fairy tales — the man loves beans, whether on the stalk or not! Going all the way back to his Skins days we found pictures of Hoult discussing, pontificating, and thinking about beans with everyone from Freida Pinto to his ex, Jennifer Lawrence. See the images below and learn a thing or two about beans in the sexiest way possible. February 28, 2008, NME Awards, with Skins costar Larissa Wilson: "All the press wants to ask...

Adam Deacon (Adulthood, Anuvahood and Demons Never Die) stars in a a compelling new film The Boarding School Bomber which tells the true story of how and why a public schoolboy became a would-be suicide bomber.
In 2008 the police received an anonymous phone call from a member of the Bristol Muslim community telling them a young man had been seen with burn marks on his hands, talking about suicide bombing.
But the 19-year old in question, Isa Ibrahim, was not your typical suicide bomber. Born in a leafy Bristol suburb to a middle class family with supportive, loving, Christian parents, Isa (born Andrew) had been to some of the most prestigious public schools in the country - Downside, Colston’s, Queen Elizabeth Hospital - and had a privileged upbringing. However, his life didn’t quite take the same direction as his older Oxford-educated, lawyer brother.

If most of her friends were passing out, high as a kite, or fighting back tears of heartbreak, Jalinda "Jal" Fazer (Larissa Wilson) was there as moral support no matter what. Considered the 'mother hen' (or goody-goody) of the group, Jal was usually the one who thought before she acted, a trait that came in handy a lot with the rest of the UK Skins gang. Very vocal about Tony's treatment of Michelle and Sid's initial ignorance when it came to Cassie, Jal did not hold a high tolerance for mistreatment of those she cared about and wasn't scared to stick up for anyone who didn't have a voice in matters.
If she wasn't shopping with her best friend Michelle or scolding any of their other mates, Jal was either studying or playing her clarinet, a skill she was very gifted in. Her father was Ronny Fazer, a famous jazz...

IFC Films has announced that it has acquired the British horror/comedy Tormented, and will debut it via its on-demand service this month. The film had originally been picked up for U.S. release by Paramount Vantage before that banner got shuttered earlier this year.
Directed by Jon Wright from a script by Stephen Prentice, Tormented centers on a popular clique of high-schoolers whose bullying leads fellow student Darren (Calvin Dean) to hang himself. While Justine (Tuppence Middleton), a member of the uncool crowd, is seduced into the group by Alexis (Dimitri Leonidas), Darren comes back from the dead to take revenge on his tormentors. The cast also includes Alex Pettyfer (soon to be seen in the title role of Beastly) and April Pearson (pictured) and Larissa Wilson of the hit BBC series Skins, with special makeup by UK FX star Paul Hyett. Tormented will be available on-demand Oct. 21-January...

Chicago – Things are a little light in the world of the DVD Round-Up, HollywoodChicago.com’s popular feature that grabs titles that may have fallen through the cracks while you were busy refreshing your Netflix queue to see if “The Reader,” “Frost/Nixon,” and “The Wrestler” are going to ever be shipped your way.
This week’s Round-Up may be missing an Oscar winner like Kate Winslet, but there’s some definite quality here including a buzzed indie horror film, a beloved BBC hit, and one of the best shows on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Do your part and pick up one of these at least for rent. Broaden your horizons.

The American edit of Skins: Volume 1 left off a rather sublime ending of Sid singing "Wild World" by Cat Stevens as the gang finishes out their night's activities. The ending takes on a decidedly different, cheerier feeling but was it more appropriate than the Us version? After a crazy night of debauchery, there were friendships broken, lives imperiled and so forth - but most importantly Tony has been hit by a bus. Walking around singing a Cat Stevens song is interesting, though a bit corny, and doesn't quite end on the melancholy note required for a proper transition into Skins: Volume 2. Considering the events of Skins: Volume 2 the upbeat UK ending seems even more deceptive and inappropriate; maybe that was the series' creators' attempts at Shakespearian levity between bouts of tragedy or maybe it was genuinely a moment of...

The British horror/comedy is being produced via the BBC and Screen West Midlands with April Pearson, Larissa Wilson, Mary Nighy (daughter of Underworld/Shaun of the Dead's Bill Nighy), and Dimitri Leonidas starring. Look for more updates on Tormented soon.
Synopsis
"Justine Fielding is the gorgeous head girl of her plush suburban grammar school, Fairview High. She has just won a place at Oxford University when in-crowd hunk Alexis asks her out on a date. All seems perfect ... except that Alexis and his circle of friends aren't quite as good as they look. Led by tormentor-in-chief Bradley, the clique’s 'too cool for school’ veneer hides a pack of inventive and merciless bullies who find it vastly amusing to persistently tease anyone they consider a worthless loser.

The teen sex-craze television programming phenomenon has existed and thrived for the last 20 years. In its heyday the genre had titles like 90210, Melrose Place, Dawson's Creek and Party of Five. Its library has since evolved into a more exploitative monster, one content with infusing teen culture with more sexual tension than it knows what to do with. The Oc, The Hills and Gossip Girl have made sexual explicitness their calling card and leave little room for competition unwilling to push the envelope quite as far themselves - so what possibility for competition exists? Portraying sexuality in a way that more closely mirrors what exists within the culture. BBC America's Skins, while still a work of fiction, possesses an entirely different view on teenaged sexuality based on one simple criterion: it's not American based - it's British. While I dislike making the distinction between quality of features purely based on regional origin,...
