Having your main operations running out of Spain doesn't help when you're coming up with a title for a movie, especially when it's basically the exact same thing as a forthcoming U.S. release. Filmax announced today that they'll be retitling Exorcismus to The Possession Of Emma Evans. If this title sticks, we'll be seeing both that and The Possession of David O'Reilly side by side on the sales rack come 2011. I expect another title change by whomever acquires the film for the States. Directed by Manuel Carballo, Filmax's Possession will explore the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Emma, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera. Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley, Stephen Billington all star.

How can you not be excited for Manuel Carballo's Exorcismus? After Filmax killed it twice with Rec and Rec 2, it's hard to imagine them dropping the ball on yet another exorcist-themed horror film. Starring Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley and Stephen Billington, Bloody Disgusting was provided with the first ever still from the film that explores the popular horror theme of exorcism, focusing on a young girl, Suzy, whose erratic behaviour forces her family to bring in a priest to try and resolve the problem through hypnosis. The disturbing results are recorded on a secret camera.

With the recent success of Rec and Rec 2, my perception of Filmax International has changed completely. I always thought they were a generic production company that released eerily similar films; never bad, but also not all that great. These days Filmax has become a trusted brand, so my anticipation for Manuel Carballo's Exorcismus is through the roof. I'm quite sure the end of the road equals disappointment, but until then I'll enjoy the anticipation. Below you'll find a new synopsis and promo art for the film starring Tommy Bastow, Sophie Vavasseur, Richard Felix, Douglas Bradley and Stephen Billington.

On Monday, October 5, shooting commenced on Exorcismus, the latest fear film to come out of Spain’s Filmax studios. As with so many Spanish genre productions of the last decade, this one is also directed by a relative newcomer to feature filmmaking, Manuel Carballo (taking over for originally slated Luis de la Madrid). And in common with most of the company's previous horror movies (such as Arachnid, Dagon, Darkness, The MacHinist and Beyond Re-animator), the movie is being filmed with a multinational cast in English, on locations in and around the city of Barcelona.
The cast includes Resident Evil: Apocalypse’s Sophie Vavasseur (pictured), Richard Felix from Filmax’s Fragile, which still has yet to see U.S. release, Hellraiser stalwart Doug Bradley and the first Resident’s Stephen Billington. The movie has already been presold to a dozen countries, including Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Poland, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. Most...

Spanish production house Filmax previously announced it would be following up [Rec] 2 with the Manuel Carballo-helmed Exorcismus, and today we got a bit of casting news and a more complete synopsis of the possession-based flick.
According to Aullidos (note the translation is a bit rough), shooting began on October 5th. This is a new production of Julio Fernandez and Sandra Fernandez [for] Filmax, shot in English and in which we see an international cast led by Sophie Vavasseur (pictured, Resident Evil: Apocalypse). Rounding out the cast [are] Richard Felix (Perfume; Fragile), Douglas Bradley (Hellraiser), and Stephen Billington (Resident Evil), among others. One of the main features of the film is to be shot with a very realistic tone, so that the fantasy theme of possession will be even more disturbing.
And what about that possession theme? How far will they go? Well, here's how Aullidos describes it: Emma is sick. Tired of...
