Alfred Molina is starring in the upcoming Prime Video series "Three Pines." It's an adaptation of the beloved and best-selling mystery novel series by Louise Penny, focused on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. There are eight episodes in the season, though the novel series is 17 books long. That's a lot of story to mine from. It's set in Canada, and the production was filmed in both Montreal and rural Quebec.
This is the first Canada-based production for Left Bank, which is the production company behind the Netflix series "The Crown," about the royal family of the United Kingdom. Production began on the Canadian Amazon Original drama series in September 2021. If you haven't heard of Armande Gamache, it's time to start reading, and watching when the series premieres. The Washington Post named Gamache the most beloved fictional detective in a 2021 reader survey. That puts him ahead of both Hercule Poirot from Agatha...

Update: He flounced out. He flounced back in. Ken got upset and left the workroom, heading out into the street and going wherever he went. He was not seen in the workroom the next morning when the other designers returned to finish their garments. But then he just showed up again and got back to work. He explained that he got so frustrated and was on the verge of taking it out on the other designers and everyone around him, so he needed to step away and cool down. (Apparently that's Ok, in terms of the rules of the show, to just leave and come back?) Although Ken lost a ton of time on his design, and neither he nor the judges liked it much, he did not go home. Instead, Layana Aguilar was eliminated. And now the drama can continue for the rest of the season...

Humans, Season Two, “Episode Two”
Written by Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley
Directed by Sam Donovan
Airs Sundays at 9 pm (Et) on AMC
The series premiere of Humans introduced the concept of synths, robots that had taken over a number of jobs from humans, and revealed that some of them had gained a consciousness that made them more than machines, while others were being treated as humans by individuals despite pressure from external bodies to not do so. This week’s episode goes further into both how consciousness in synths would affect the show’s universe, how humans feel about the synths and their seemingly invasive presence, developing a number of storylines and characters with varying results.
Dr. Millican’s storyline this week is the most intriguing expansion of the world of Humans, and provides, along with Niska’s storyline, a tangible reason why companies would...

Humans, Season One, “Episode One”

Robots and how humans relate to them has been a topic of science fiction in numerous forms of media, from films to novels. The newest entry into this subgenre comes in the form of AMC’s new series Humans. Set in a world where men and women have relegated a number of jobs to robots called synths, the pilot sets up a number of conflicts that arise from this arrangement, in a strong opening that suggests a compelling new series.
The show does an interesting job of positing the robots as regarded as second class citizens that would be interesting to follow through on. While the idea has been explored in movies and television before, placing robots as the disadvantaged group...
