Exclusive: Conservative media outlet The Daily Wire has commissioned its first animated scripted series, Mr Birchum, created by comedian and radio host Adam Carolla.
The series follows Carolla’s junior high woodshop teacher popularized on Kroq radio and brought to life in puppet form on Comedy Central’s Crank Yankers.
In this animated update, according to producers, “Mr. Birchum attempts to navigate a world he doesn’t understand or approve of. It’s that time year again—when one might, upon their daily neighborhood perambulation, casually stumble upon a man dressed in a blood-splattered full-body jumpsuit and think to themself, this is perfectly fine and normal. But that’s the Halloween season for you, when the ghosts and goblins and AMC-obsessed Nicole Kidmans are out in full force for their yearly Halloween rituals.
Aside from meticulously inserting razor blades into the apples we all intend to hand out to local children, everyone’s favorite part of the Halloween season is—of course—the excuse to binge-watch our favorite horror movies, from the silly-scary (Hocus Pocus), to the fun-scary (Trick R Treat), to the scary-scary (The Evil Dead) or the really scary-scary (any news channel). In fact, horror movies have long been an integral part of the indie film ecosystem—turning minuscule budgets into huge box office numbers and launching the...

Daily Wire Co-CEO Jeremy Boreing will take a temporary leave of absence from the right wing media organization to direct the seven-episode series, which has long been a passion project of his.
Boreing will co-direct with Ryan Whitaker (Surprised By Oxford). The “multinational” cast is being finalized with filming due to take place in Italy and Hungary.
The Daily Wire confirmed to us that it won’t be needing an interim agreement from SAG.
The drama will be inspired by the first two books of the series written by Stephen R. Lawhead. The Pendragon Cycle is a retelling of the Arthurian legend, set not in the high Medieval age of knights in shining armor, but in the wake of a Roman-occupied Britain,...

Directed by Shawn Rech, the series will re-examine the story of Steven Avery, who served 18 years in prison after a wrongful conviction for sexual assault and attempted murder, but was later convicted of the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach.
The Emmy-winning Netflix series was a ratings and critical hit but also drew fire from some corners, including prosecutor Ken Kratz who claimed that key evidence from the trial was omitted from the documentary.

After its initial showing, the film will be available exclusively for Daily Wire members to stream on its website.
According to the conservative media company, their debut original, the action thriller Shut In, recently drew more than 500,000 viewers in its first 72 hours across YouTube and its own website. The popularity of that launch inspired a repeat of the model, the company has told us.
“The Hyperions is one of the most creative films I’ve seen,” said Daily Wire co-ceo Jeremy Boreing. “It’s an ingenious comedy you can enjoy with your family and friends. We have always wanted to give it the largest possible audience and can’t wait to premiere it next week on YouTube for movie fans and our members.

The Daily Wire wants to make conservative movies to take on liberal Hollywood, which might sound like a lost cause from the start. But today it’s releasing a movie based on a Black List screenplay with a compelling genre hook that almost looks commercial — and just happens to sneak conservative values into the heart of its story.
The right-wing publication sells Leftist Tears travel mugs and hosts a podcaster who believes doctors who perform gender-affirmation surgeries are “treating kids like Frankenstein’s monster.” However, it might be able to succeed where Dinesh D’Souza, Steve Bannon, and other conservative filmmakers failed: Adapt a red-state approach to movies that sublimates politics into the story rather than turning it into obvious propaganda.
Today the site premieres its first original feature, “Shut In,” a thriller from “Disturbia” director DJ Caruso. Rainey Qualley stars as a single mother who, after being locked in her...

Ahead of FrightFest’s UK premiere of Run Hide Fight at the Glasgow Film Festival, director Kyle Rankin talks about the personal tragedy that inspired the film, the influence of 70s cinema and the huge importance of film festivals.
Run Hide Fight was inspired by a tragic incident in your own past so did that make it a harder script to write?

Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk served as producers alongside Chelsea Davenport and Kimberly Hwang.
The movie has been scheduled to release theatrically and on demand on March 26.

Former “The Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano has set a new project with Ben Shapiro’s The Daily Wire just two days after being dropped by Lucasfilm and UTA over the former Mma fighter’s social media posts.
“The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true,” Carano said in a statement to Deadline. “I cried out and my prayer was answered. I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

At The Playlist, we’re not ashamed of sharing politically-minded content and offering up our opinions when warranted. Hell, you can look at our Twitter feed to see the political stuff that we share. But what’s happening with The Daily Wire is something totally different, as the conservative news organization has gone above and beyond trying to share its political views (as toxic and ridiculous as they may be) and is now getting involved with movie distribution, as seen in the new trailer for “Run Hide Fight.”

From actor Jon Voight to Kirstie Alley, Trump’s celebrity fans have declared war on the left – and there is little sign hostilities will end soon
On 11 November, Midnight Cowboy and Coming Home star Jon Voight posted a video on Twitter. “This is our greatest battle since the civil war,” he said, referring to the election results. “The battle of righteousness versus Satan, yes, Satan. Because these leftists are evil, corrupt and they want to tear down this nation.” Voight’s support of President Trump has been full-throated. His video messages promote conspiracy theories about the election and use violent language. Voight is typical of celebrity Maga: from Kirstie Alley to James Woods, Trump’s Hollywood supporters regularly echo the president’s own unvarnished rhetoric. But now Trump’s term is over, how long can this cultural Infinity War last?

Run Hide Fight, made in relative secrecy last winter, follows 17-year-old Zoe Hull (Isabel May) who uses her wits, survival skills and compassion to fight for her life, and those of her fellow classmates, against a group of live-streaming school shooters.
Offering a teen’s perspective on the subject matter, May said, “I remember being in school and realizing that the students around me including myself, in odd ways, would daydream about how we would fight or protect our fellow students from a potential shooter. The Venice Film Festival has completed the lineup of its 77th edition with the addition of “Fiori, Fiori, Fiori!,” a short film shot during the lockdown by Luca Guadagnino, the director of Oscar-nominated “Call Me By Your Name,” and U.S. film “Run Hide Fight,” about a high-school massacre.
Both titles will play in the Out of Competition section of the festival, which runs on the Lido as a physical event Sept. 2 to 12.
Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera described the films as “two irreducibly different models of filmmaking, which are the expression, however, of an identical and compelling creative energy.”
In documentary “Fiori, Fiori, Fiori!,” shot during the Covid-19 lockdown, Guadagnino travels to Sicily to knock on the doors of childhood friends and discuss with them their experience during the pandemic.
Barbera describes the film as a “personal escape” for Guadagnino “in search of the people, places and relationships of his youth.

Cinestate is facing internal backlash after a recent report by The Daily Beast that details the independent Texas movie studio’s alleged complicity in several instances of sexual misconduct. Editors of two publications owned by the company, Birth.Movies.Death. and Fangoria, on Monday publicly shared a letter they have shared with their bosses demanding Cinestate take several measures in the realm of anti-harassment. They’re refusing to work until the company meets the demands. (The full letter is available below.)
Over the weekend, The Daily Beast published a deep-dive investigation titled “How a Right-Wing Movie Studio Enabled the ‘Harvey Weinstein’ of Indie Film,” referencing producer Adam Donaghey, who is currently facing a charge of sexual assault of a child, and produced several of Cinestate’s films. The article also offers a new look into allegations that Cinestate enabled a pattern of harassment not just by Donaghey, but by others...

The U.S. firm will present the project to buyers at the upcoming European Film Market.
Run Hide Fight follows 17-year-old Zoe Hull (May) who uses her wits, survival skills, and compassion to fight for her life, and those of her fellow classmates, against a group of live-streaming school shooters.
Currently in post-production, the film also stars Eli Brown (Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists), Olly Sholotan (All American), Cyrus Arnold (Zoolander 2), Britton Sear (Boy Erased), Catherine Davis (S.W.A.T.), Treat Williams (Deep Rising), and Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator).
The project’s subject matter is a highly sensitive one. The filmmakers discussed their rationale for making the film and its journey when we broke news about it late last year.

That co-writer Matthew McArdle remains shocked even after seeing the film he and Max Brallier wrote on the big screen shows how tough the accomplishment proves. Best friends since childhood, the two began their script for Vfw with transparent intentions as far as harkening back to the no-holds-barred VHS gems they’d scour video store shelves to find. Using John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 as inspiration, they created a group of aging vets decades-removed from service yet still thick as thieves with a drug-fueled, zombie-esque horde threatening to attack their Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in waves. It took seven years, but Dallas Sonnier finally called to say he’d finance it before director Joe Begos, a stellar cast of character actors, and the rejuvenated Fangoria label came aboard.
You can’t blame McArdle for being in awe as the names kept coming: Stephen Lang, William Sadler, David Patrick Kelly,...
