GeoCities websites, instant messaging, free AOL discs and blocking up the phone line - today we’re gonna party like we’ve just connected at 56 kbit/s. That is, we’re going to take a nostalgic look at the early days of the World Wide Web.
Okay, okay - we know that the Internet existed before the web and that there were other ways of connecting to distant computer networks before the Internet was even established. What we’re interested in is a period that began around the middle of the 90s when the World Wide Web first became a popular destination. Let’s get something straight though - just because we miss something, it doesn’t mean that we want it back.

British actress Lucy Davis is best known for her comedic chops. You may have seen her in Shaun of the Dead or on the FX comedy series Better Things. But you probably know her as receptionist Dawn Tinsley on the U.K. version of The Office (you know -- the original version). “It brought new things into my life, opportunities that I hadn’t had before, doors opened that hadn’t opened before,” Davis tells Et of the role that first brought her fame.
Today, the 44-year-old Brit is taking on a new kind of role as Etta Candy, sidekick and best friend to Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince, in the upcoming superhero film Wonder Woman. Davis' take on the role marks the first time Etta is making an appearance in a live-action feature film.

Bachelor alum Chris Soules spoke to People about his single life after reality TV just one month before being arrested in Iowa after allegedly leaving the scene of a fatal car accident that left one individual dead.

With a seemingly endless amount of streaming options — not only the titles at our disposal, but services themselves — we’ve taken it upon ourselves to highlight the titles that have recently hit platforms. Every week, one will be able to see the cream of the crop (or perhaps some simply interesting picks) of streaming titles (new and old) across platforms such as Netflix, iTunes, Amazon, and more (note: U.S. only). Check out our rundown for this week’s selections below.
Dormant Beauty (Marco Bellocchio)
The newest film by Marco Bellocchio, one of Italy’s most revered directors, Dormant Beauty, initially seems like a risky proposition, being that it intends to marry both the often over-stuffed ensemble drama subgenre and what’s essentially an “issue” film. The exact fear being that the narrative would strain in a series of contrivances while also mass sermonizing. And yet, while the film still...

Prince's estate is facing a $56,260 claim from an event planner after two parties scheduled to take place the late singer's Paisley Park residence were canceled. According to a claim filed Wednesday in Carver County, Minnesota and obtained by People, Barron is seeking $56,260 "for work performed on behalf of...

The estate of deceased music legend Prince is probably wishing that it hadn’t decided to cancel parties at Paisley Park right about now. The estate has been hit with a claim by event planner Ricky Barron, who says that he’s out a bundle after the estate nixed a pair of events at Prince’s famed Minnesota residence, including an event for Make-a-Wish Minnesota. According to Barron’s claim, filed Wednesday in court in Carver County, Minnesota, the estate put the kibosh on Make-a-Wish event that was to be held May 21 — a month after the singer died at age 57 — as.

Sound on Sight undertook a massive project, compiling ranked lists of the most influential, unforgettable, and exciting action scenes in all of cinema. There were hundreds of nominees spread across ten different categories and a multi-week voting process from 11 of our writers. The results: 100 essential set pieces, sequences, and scenes from blockbusters to cult classics to arthouse obscurities.
Sword fights, like one-on-one fights, target the emotion and power of each individual fighter, but are amplified by the extension of their weapon. Whereas one-on-one fights test the might and bronze of our competitors, sword fights add an extra element of intelligence and skill. A fighter can scrape by through luck in a brawl of fists, but a sword (and knife) fight exposes the true strengths and weaknesses of its opponents.

Game of Thrones, Season 5, Episode 2: “The House of Black and White”
Directed by Michael Slovis
Written by David Benioff and Db Weiss
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on HBO
The season five premiere of Game of Thrones had a lot of work to do, reintroducing us to a large ensemble cast while establishing several new story-lines for major characters. While “The Wars to Come” was busy with several key players including Jon Snow, Stannis Baratheon, Daenerys Targaryen, Tyrion and Cersei, there was little room for some of our other favourite characters to shine, and one (Arya) to make even a slight appearance. Luckily, episode 2, “The House of Black and White,” found ample time to focus on Arya Stark’s journey to Braavos. Meanwhile Pod and Brienne run into trouble on the road when crossing paths with Little Finger; Jamie heads to Dorne to bring his daughter back home safety...

Sordid Cinema Podcast #93: ‘Chappie’
Neil Blomkamp’s Chappie has been a punchline for months. Even before its first trailer dropped, the notion of Blomkamp taking a detour into Short Circuit-style robotic comedy antics seemed ill-advised to many. Even when it became clear that the film was going to fall fairly neatly in line with Blmokamp’s other satirical dystopian action movies, the derision was consistent, all the way up to its release, when it received a near-unanimous critical drubbing. Does it really deserve the mockery? Ricky D, Simon and special guest Jr Kinnard are here to try and sort truth from Twitter, while also pondering watching R-rated films at a young age, the latent superpowers of PS4s, and the perils of making an auteuristic blockbuster.

The Wizard
Directed by Todd Holland
Screenplay by David Chisholm
1989, USA
Although e-sports have long been a part of video game culture since the early 70′s, competitions saw a large surge in popularity in 1989 when Universal Pictures produced The Wizard, about a trio of kids who make their way to a national Nintendo video game championship (Video Armageddon) for a grand prize of $50,000. The charismatic and rising star of television’s Wonder Years, Fred Savage, stars as Corey, a boy who escorts his deeply traumatized younger half-brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) away from a group home and sets off on a cross-country trek, chased by their father (Beau Bridges), their older brother (Christian Slater), and a child-finder, hired by their mother to bring him back home. Along the way they meet little Haley (Jenny Lewis) and discover that Jimmy is a real prodigy when it comes to video games. They make a stop off in Reno,...

5. The Empty Man (Boom!)
The Empty Man #1-6
Writer: Cullen Bunn
Artist: Vanessa R. Del Rey
Colorist: Michael Garland
Cullen Bunn is unique. If nothing else can be said about him, he is certainly unique. The Empty Man shows the full extent of Bunn’s ability. The series focuses on two detectives as they struggle to sort out the mystery surrounding a series of suspicious deaths and murders. The deaths are connected by the strange hallucinations experienced by the perpetrators, as well as their last words “The Empty Man made me do it”. The Empty Man is unpredictable because it follows so very few tropes. Nothing like this series has been seen before, and readers will be asking themselves the same question over and over: Who is the Empty Man? (Or “What the F*ck?”).
Bunn’s series is still in its infancy, so can be said without spoiling the twisting,...

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 6: “Consumed”
Directed by Seith Mann
Written by Matthew Negrete & Corey Reed
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on AMC
“Consumed” follows Carol and Daryl in pursuit of the mysterious vehicle that belongs to Beth’s kidnappers. The dynamic duo make good progress into the city eventually arriving at a safe house while running into the occasional zombie along the way. The hour proves harmless enough for the pair of seasoned veterans, and while at times exciting, “Consumed” is a predictable, voyage into the heart of Atlanta. But despite a lack of suspense and horror, “Consumed” is a welcome return to two of the show’s most compelling characters; and an episode that gives two of our least talkative survivors a chance to express themselves and some much-needed breathing room to examine how much they’ve both changed in five seasons.

From a sexy Batman and Robin to a sexy Lucy and Ricky, here are the best, worst and weirdest moments from this week's 'DWTS.'
This week's Dancing With The Stars was all about dynamic duos! From Bonnie and Clyde to Batman and Robin, the stars and their pro partners brought famous couples to life through dance, and it was one of the most enjoyable shows of the season so far.
Not only were the couples dressed up as famous duos, but it was revealed that there would also be a head-to-head dance off, pairing each couple against another in a series of three impromptu performances that could earn them extra points. However, the highest-scoring couple of the night would be totally safe from elimination, and wouldn't have to compete in the dance-off. The excitement was brewing right off the bat.

The Walking Dead, Season 5, Episode 4: “Slabtown”

“Everything costs something, right?”
The mystery of Beth Greene’s whereabouts has been solved.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; The Walking Dead does well with episodes featuring fewer characters that we know. “Slabtown”, written by Matthew Negrete and Channing Powell, is a testament to the improvement of the writing ever since Scott M. Gimple took over as show-runner. That the hour maintains the quality and entertainment of previous episodes without Rick and the gang, is good news. Putting Beth, and only Beth, in the spotlight back in season two would have been ill advised, but ever since last season’s “Still,” Beth is a character we’ve all come to know and love. When Sin City was released, it was a remarkable achievement – a comic book adaptation that didn’t look or feel like every other comic book adaptation release before it. It was bold, daring, fast-paced, and visually inventive. The 2005 original generated $158 million worldwide, and now nine years later, the sequel is a box office bust. This week on Sordid Cinema, guest Cody Lang joins us to discuss why Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is not only a box office bomb, but critically panned. We’ll let you know if we agree with these critics and later in the show, we also take some time to discuss the latest crime series by Ed Brubacker titled, The Fade Out, as well promote the films by director Mark Rappaport. This weekend’s Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa opened on a serious note and it proved to be a turning point for the existing contestants of the show. Saturday’s show opened with rehearsal footage of existing contestants. All the contestants were called on stage and the two unsafe contestants who would be in the face-off this week, would be announced.
Sreesanth and Puja were the two unsafe contestants. Puja was disappointed to be in the face-off once again.
For the first time, the face-off happened at the beginning of the show. Puja and Rajat were the first to perform. Their chosen dance style was Freestyle, and they performed to the song ‘Teri Meri Prem Kahani’ from Bodyguard. Their prop was a picture frame. All the acts would be featuring a prop this week as this was the theme. As always, Puja’s scores were saved and would be revealed after Sreesanth performed.

Game of Thrones, Season 4, Episode 8: “The Mountain and the Viper”
Directed by Alex Graves
Written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on HBO
Let’s begin with Molestown. The opening sequence is bound to be overlooked by the 45 minutes which follows, but the sequence is noteworthy for several reasons: As The Wildlings swarm the village, Alex Graves and cinematographer Anette Haellmigk work their magic, creating exciting action set-pieces while setting the stage for what is yet to come. Take note of the reflection in the well of a man slitting another man’s throat, or the blood dripping from the ceiling as Ygritte spares Gilly’s life. The opening offers gorgeous cinematography and scenery, loads of gore, and an atmospheric score to help sustain the mood.
For those who see this savage journey through to the end, there are riches aplenty culminating with the...

Helena Bonham Carter, emboldened by a few drinks, once asked Prince William to be a godfather. "I got very drunk at one point, and I was determined to ask him to be a godfather to my daughter," the actress, 47, recalled this week at a glamorous Windsor Castle charity dinner to benefit the Royal Marsden cancer hospital, of which William, 31, is president. "He quite wisely said 'no.' " Bonham Carter said she cheekily popped the question when she met William and his then-girlfriend Kate Middleton while they were vacationing on the Caribbean island of Mustique. Bonham Carter added, "I admire him.

Game of Thrones, Ep. 4.01: “Two Swords” just enough to sustain us through long periods of exposition
Game of Thrones, Season 4, Episode 1: “Two Swords”
Written by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss
Directed by D.B. Weiss
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on HBO
As per usual, kindly avoid revealing future book spoilers in the comments.
“Two Swords” isn’t necessarily the most explosive season opener, but it is smartly bookended around two blades belonging to the Starks, beginning on the death of Ice and ending on the resurrection of Needle; the title, of course, evidently refers to the pair of blades Tywin has forged from Ned Stark’s enormous Valyrian steel sword. Ned Stark’s most prized weapon (and also the sword that took his head), Ice is melted down into two smaller blades, with one of them given to Jaime Lannister, now without his fighting hand. The mythology surrounding Valyrian steel is interesting in itself: it’s nearly indestructible and Ice is an heirloom that has...

That's it! We're done! The blind auditions are now over, and the coaches' teams are finally complete. Mind you, with will.i.am chatting about ducks and reciting the alphabet, Ricky making sure his hair was perfect and talking about how he used to want to be Et, Sir Tom trying to destroy his chair out of frustration, and everyone complaining about how tough the whole thing was, it's a surprise we made it.
And, of course, the final blinds are always brutal - seven acts made it through, but eleven had to say goodbye. Still, who made it and who didn't? Who were we loving? Read on to find out how we ranked this week's auditionees...

Oh, he does like leaving it to the last minute, doesn't he? will.i.am - yet again - was the last coach standing on The Voice, but his persistence paid off as once more he put together a strong team of singers. But who is your favourite?
It might be that you're on board with harpist Anna McLuckie, or fancy a bit of Kiki de Ville. Maybe you think Will saved the best to last, and you're backing late arrivals Tom Barnwell and Cherri Prince. Perhaps James Byron or Jermain Jackman caught your eye, or maybe you're a fan of the alliterative Callum Crowley. Of course, it could be Femi Santiago that you like, or maybe you're backing Iesher Haughton, Jessica Steele, Sarah Eden-Winn or Sophie May.
Well, we want to know, so vote in our poll below and then leave your comments so we know who's making you scream and shout this year.

If Becoming made an almighty mess at the end of Season Two of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, then Anne begins the clean-up process.
It's the all-new third season of the show, and as with most returning TV programmes, there's a slew of minor changes. The theme music has been reworked to great effect – a punchier arrangement that doesn't stumble over the final drum crescendo at the end like the original theme did. The titles have been revamped and boast a new logo, all-new clips and Seth Green as a regular. Elsewhere, Willow's had her hair cut, Giles has new glasses and Joyce's hair has mysteriously seemed to have grown by twice its size.
Season Three of Buffy is widely acclaimed by many as one of the best. While it lacks the ominous gloom of Season Two's second half of stories, it does have many things going for it. A top-class...

Josh brought his Mousterpiece Cinema podcast to Sound on Sight this time last year, starting by reposting his older podcasts beginning with his very first podcast about Cars 2.
One of Ricky D‘s constructive criticisms for Josh on joining the site was that his best podcasts were the ones where he was joined by a guest like Gabriel Bucsko for their podcast on The Muppets film. Since Gabe actually works in Hollywood (an experience he discussed during the podcast on the cinematic atrocity Disney Animated classic Fox and the Hound 2) he is not regularly available to do the podcast. I volunteered to be a more regular co-host, taking the opportunity of Gabe being around to boycott films I had no interest in watching or re-watching like say the Disney Direct to Video Sequels, Midquels and Prequels, or films I couldn’t get my hands on, or allow me to...

The best thing about Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out! is the cover, and to even suggest that it’s a great cover is solely based on the pre-shrunk Sndn branding from the original film combined with an absolute love for the Ive logo at the bottom of the poster/cover box. The content of the film is completely trash. Late 80’s hooey! I’m not gonna be the guy who’s complaining that it is a sequel in name only even if it does follow around poor Bah Humbugged Ricky Caldwell. I mean at least Ricky Caldwell’s back and following the late 80’s psychic saves the day/psychic causes all the problems trope. And yeah, there’s a Santa Claus and he’s a killer and there’s creepy Christmas imagery, so I can see why it has a fan base. This epitomizes how the direct...

Deepika Padukone, has come a long way since her debut in Srk’s home production and super hit, Om Shanti Om, and has ventured into different roles (‘Sakhi/Suzy’ in Chandni Chowk To China, ‘Shonali’ in Karthik Calling Karthik and ‘Veronica’ in the recent Cocktail), and more recently, is due to appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Ram Leela opposite Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl star Ranveer Singh.
Deepika is set to play a Gujarati girl in which she’ll need to dance accordingly. According to one source close to the film sets, Bhansali asked Deepika to dance similarly to Aishwarya’s garba dancing (traditional Gujarati dance) .
Lead actress, Deepika is going to no end in terms of her character in this film, and to further get into the skin of her Gujarati character, Deepika also went on some festive shopping with her designer and stylist to Gujarati shopping centres and picked up lavish ghaghra cholis.

Holy Motors is a carefully structured work of art; reflective, palpable, playful, absurd, precise and entirely engrossing. Motors is a prime reminder or why cinema is so treasured and celebrated. In this film, as in life, nothing is explained and things just get stranger by the minute. When most cinema these days produces nothing but the ordinary, a movie like Holy Motors is a treasure to behold and worthy of multiple viewings (I’ve seen it three times so far). This preposterous piece of filmmaking is exhilarating,...

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is not only one of the most eagerly movies of 2012, but also one of the most eagerly awaited soundtracks of 2012. Yash Chopra, A R Rahman and Gulzar have come together for the very first time for Chopra’s last directorial venture. Needless to say, expectations are sky high. BollySpice attempts to deliver a verdict.
The much talked about Challa Challa opens the album. A spirited contemporary sufi of sorts, ‘Challa’ has been the subject of praise and criticism alike. Rabbi Shergill’s (‘Bulla Ki Jaana’) soulful vocals and Gulzar’s lyrics against the backdrop of Rahman’s well-arranged strings, make an undeniably formidable combination. The choice of having Rabbi sing for Shah Rukh Khan on other hand is questionable at best. Any other composer would have opted for current sufi favourites, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan or Kailash Kher, even Sukwinder Singh, but that is not reason...

Liam Neeson is back in action in Taken 2 as Bryan Mills, a protective father who just happens to be a retired CIA agent with a "very particular set of skills".
The 60-year-old actor has portrayed, as he says himself, "Michael Collins, Schindler, Zeus and a Jedi", but he was surprised to find himself playing Bryan again.
Since the success of Taken - one of the most successful French-made films ever released in the Us - Neeson has experienced a resurgence in his career and there has been demand for a sequel.
Having won admirers through films such as Schindler's List and Star Wars: Episode I, and capturing women's hearts as a grieving widow in Love Actually, the actor has now evolved into an action hero.
But the Irish actor admits, despite his admiration for screenwriter Luc Besson, he never even expected the first film to be such a hit.

Sunday 15th of July saw Salim-Sulaiman take to the stage to entertain a packed audience at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, the beautiful art deco theatre which has hosted many legends such as The Beatles and Bob Marley. Bollyspice was there to catch it all and to share the highlights of the evening for those of you who were unfortunate enough to miss it…
Salim-Sulaiman are a pair of extremely talented musician brothers, who started off composing background movie scores for Bollywood films. They are now successful music-directors, who have worked extensively with Yash Raj films (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Band Baaja Baaraat), amongst many others. They have also worked with acclaimed international stars like Lady Gaga.
Salim opened the evening sharing with the audience how they have been recording in the studios for the last fifteen years and only now felt that they could bring their music to the stage in London.

Beginning with Hamesha in 1997, the great musical duo of Salim and Sulaiman Merchant have given Bollywood’s actors and actresses, and of course, fans some of the greatest music heard and danced to in Hindi Cinema. They are the gentlemen behind incredible soundtracks such as Aaja Nachle and Chak De! India in 2007, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Fashion for 2008, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year and Kurbaan in 2009, Band Baaja Baaraat (2010), Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Love Breakups Zindagi for 2011 and so far in 2012 Jodi Breakers with more to come. Phew! The mind boggles with how many great songs are on those Ost’s and how many tracks of theirs I have added to my all time favorite song playlists. Besides composing, the brothers have embarked on a world tour. They just finished up a hit Us tour and now are getting ready to thrill and entertain UK audiences on July 14th and 15th.

Concept is the key to make a good film and we should not ignore the importance of a sound story in a movie. That is what writer-director Habib Faisal, who is currently enjoying the success of Ishaqzaade, recently said on filmmaking at Subhash Ghai’s acting school Whistling Woods.
According to him the technological developments of reent years have made filmmaking a lot easier for all, but we shouldn’t forget that the lead role will always be it’s story. “Films are always going to be concept-driven. The time has come again to watch 25 men with questionable sanity vie for the affections of one woman with questionable desirability. This time, it's Emily Maynard, dubbed by Chris Harrison "the southern single mom with heartbreak in her past." In case you're wondering about the heartbreak, her then-fiancé died in a tragic plane crash. But more on that later.
The season premiere began with a snapshot of Emily's everyday life. She makes her daughter Ricky pancakes, brushes Ricky's teeth and mugs for the camera crew in her bathroom. When alone, she rides horses, reads in bed and stands around awkwardly gazing at the sky. She is in serious need of a husband, you see. And a father figure for her daughter, which is why for the First Time Ever (!!!) the show is filming in her home town of Charlotte, Nc. Yes, this season will be totally different than...

There are two big screen adaptations of Disney’s classic Snow White coming to the big screen this year. The first is Mirror Mirror which comes courtesy of director Tarsem Singh (The Fall, The Cell) and stars Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, and Sean Bean (who will most likely die). This flick looks to be as visually splendid a piece of cinema as any of Singh’s previous films, including, the 300-style swords & sandals epic, Immortals.
