The Walking Dead maker Skybound Entertainment is pushing into the unscripted game.
The firm has hired ex-Catalina Content exec Brent Jacoby to head up the new division, which will tap into pre-existing Skybound IP such as AMC smash The Walking Dead and Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible.
Jacoby will be focused on quickly expanding the global unscripted TV slate, although Skybound didn’t delve any deeper into his strategy. He joins at the same time as former MGM TV VP Chris Goble, who takes up the newly-created SVP of Television role. Both will report to TV President Glenn Geller.
Jacoby joins from Sky Studios-backed Catalina where he developed the likes of The Mighty Underdogs for Discovery+. Prior to that, he led the development team for ITV America’s Outpost Entertainment, working for the likes of Discovery, A&e, Food Network and Science Channel including History’s Knife or Death.

Exclusive: Walking Dead maker Skybound Entertainment has struck what it is calling a “first-of-its-kind” deal with Prime Video over a dystopian thriller series from Scandinavia.
Amazon has taken rights in the Nordics for Vaka but Skybound retains worldwide distribution and controls the show’s “global commissioning structure.” This means Skybound can strike deals with buyers and sellers in different territories while the door remains open for Prime Video to acquire Vaka for other regions further down the line.
Set in Stockholm and starring Aliette Opheim and Jonas Karlsson, Vaka follows the spread of a deadly insomnia epidemic. A disgraced minister must balance addressing the crisis and caring for his son, while an ambulance nurse goes to great lengths to save her lover.
The show is co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Unlimited Stories and Sagafilm, the latter of which was acquired by Skybound and 5th Planet Games last year. The Icelandic...

NCIS has been going strong for two decades. But there have been a few times when it seemed like the show might not be able to continue, particularly when fan-favorite characters such as Abby Sciuto and Leroy Jethro Gibbs left the show. In fact, the departure of another key actor felt like a death knell for the long-running series, an NCIS insider recently revealed.

It’s always a blow when a fan-favorite actor leaves a beloved show. Loyal viewers are likely to speculate about the real reasons for a cast member’s departure. Add in reports of behind-the-scenes workplace drama, and the situation becomes even more intriguing. Take CBS’s mega-hit NCIS. The long-running show has seen several major stars exit over its 20-season run. But none has generated as many headlines as Abby Sciuto actor Pauley Perrette’s 2017 decision not to return to the procedural drama.

Although NCIS was well-liked from the get-go, not even an elite investigation could have foreseen the show becoming a hit that would span decades and launch a franchise.
It began in spring 2003 as a backdoor pilot for CBS’ sturdy military-law procedural Jag. Co-created by Jag mastermind Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, P.I., Quantum Leap) and Don McGill (Numbers, CSI), NCIS follows special agents from D.C.’s Naval Criminal Investigative Service, led by Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The show’s initial core cast included Michael Weatherly (Tony Dinozzo), Sasha Alexander (Caitlin Todd), Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto) and David McCallum (Ducky Mallard). Twenty years later, the series continues to thrive, as it stands as CBS’ No. 1 broadcast drama for five straight seasons and has launched four spinoffs, with the first international entry, NCIS: Sydney, debuting this fall on the network.

Exclusive: The changeover at the top of CBS’ entertainment operations continues. I hear Thom Sherman is stepping down as Senior Executive Vice President, Programming, CBS Entertainment and is getting an expansive production deal with the company. The move follows the news broken by Deadline earlier this morning that CBS veteran Kelly Kahl will be leaving his post as President of Entertainment at the end of the year. I hear the network’s head of current Amy Reisenbach will be named new President of Entertainment.

Another broadcast network president is out.
Kelly Kahl, who has been with CBS for nearly three decades, is stepping down from his role as entertainment president at the network. Kahl will exit at year’s end as part of what CBS CEO George Cheeks described as part of a “restructuring and streamlining of leadership” at CBS Entertainment. A replacement for Kahl has not yet been determined.
The news was announced Wednesday morning with both Kahl and Cheeks sending memos to staff. Read both below.
The news comes as a surprise given Kahl’s longtime history with CBS and after he was tapped to serve as entertainment president at the network following Glenn Geller in 2017. The longtime Les Moonves exec — he came with him to CBS after serving as a research exec at Warner Bros. TV — rose to the top after rising to run scheduling for the network.

Fox has given a straight-to-series order to anthology drama Accused, based on the International Emmy-winning British series. The project comes from key creative auspices behind Fox’s two biggest drama series of the last two decades, 24 executive producers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa and House creator/executive producer David Shore. Sony Pictures TV, where Gordon & Gansa as well as Shore are under overall deals, will co-produce with Fox Entertainment.
While Accused is being picked up on the eve of Fox’s 2021-22 Upfront presentation, the series is for the 2022-23 season.
This marks the first series order for Gordon and Gansa since they launched a Sony TV-based production company in 2019 with former CBS Entertainment chief Glenn Geller as President. It comes on the heels of Shore, creator, executive producer and showrunner of Sony TV’s hit ABC drama series The Good Doctor, signing a new four-year deal with the studio.

A decade after Fox canceled “America’s Most Wanted,” the network is reviving the series — with new host Elizabeth Vargas.
The new “America’s Most Wanted” will premiere this March on Fox, the network announced on Friday. The format will be the same: “Vargas will ask for viewers’ help as she breaks down cases from the show’s new headquarters, consulting with a team of experts representing law enforcement units such as the FBI, U.S. Marshall’s Office and Secret Service,” the network said.
“America’s Most Wanted” caught 1,186 criminals over 25 seasons in its original run with host John Walsh — starting in 1988 on Fox, and then moving to Lifetime for a few more years before the show ended for good in 2013.

Exclusive: Showtime may have found its next Homeland. The network is tying up a preemptive deal to acquire and turn the Nathan Englander Israeli-Palestine conflict novel Dinner at the Center of the Earth into a series that Homeland architects Howard Gordon & Alex Gansa will write and run as executive producers. Deal is being made through Sony Pictures Television Studios, where Gordon and Gansa made a four-year overall deal last year.
Showtime isn’t commenting, but Deadline hears the commitment is for a pilot that will be written by Gordon & Gansa, who steered Homeland through eight solid seasons. The hope is for this to be the next major series for the duo.
The novel is a sprawling drama that has some basis in real players in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, set in the Middle East and Europe, but the simplest way to describe it is a spy thriller in the vein of Homeland and The Night Manager.

Disney still isn't done pumping out remakes of your favorite classics. According to Deadline, Disney is currently working with director Bill Condon on a movie musical version of A Christmas Carol, titled Marley, and there's already a script in production.
The new film will be (yet another) reimagining of the holiday classic, which tells the story of how a Christmas-hating man named Ebenezer Scrooge is spiritually transformed by a visit from the ghost of a former colleague named Jacob Marley and three Christmas spirits. It's been adapted a handful of times already, though one of the most well-known renditions is 2009's CGI version starring Jim Carrey, who played Scrooge and all three spirits. In the new version, the story will be told from Marley's point of view, hence its title.

The CW is developing a drama series based on the book “The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter” by Theodora Goss, Variety has learned.
The series is set in Victorian London and follows two radically different young women–one the daughter of Dr. Jekyll; the other, Mr. Hyde. They discover they’re half-sisters when a series of gruesome murders appear connected to their deceased father. They unite with other unsung but remarkable daughters of famous literary figures to rise above societal norms and unearth the mystery of their origins.
Variety alum Aj Marechal will pen the adaptation. Former CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller will executive produce under his Gellervision banner, along with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Gotham Group’s Eddie Gamarra. CBS Television Studios will produce. Should the project go to series, it would be the first such adaptation of Goss’ work.

No “Bull,” CBS wants you to know that the freshman Michael Weatherly series is actually the No. 1 new show of the year in total viewers, over NBC’s lauded “This Is Us.”
“We congratulate them on their success, but we like winning,” CBS senior exec VP Kelly Kahl said. He also pointed out that even CBS’ “Blue Bloods” has a larger audience than any other drama on the other networks, except “This Is Us.”
“The Big Bang Theory” is the “Wayne Gretzky of comedy,” he noted, arguing that no other half-hour comes close in total viewers, which is why they’re big on spinoff entry “Young Sheldon.” The show was recently renewed for two more seasons, a negotiation that Moonves characterized as amicable.
He also said he “hoped” that the show will continue even beyond that. “We’ll do these two years and we’re not going to just lay down,...
