Following her scene-stealing role in the X-Men '97 finale, there's been a hurricane of Storm announcements this week. Not only is the stalwart X-Man leader joining the cast of writer Jed MacKay and new series artist Valerio Schiti's Avengers this August, but she'll also headline her own solo ongoing series in October.
She's Earth's Mightiest Mutant, and both titles will showcase her soaring to Omega-level heights. Today, you can check out some all-new variant covers for the issue where she's recruited by her fellow heroes: Avengers #17.
Among the new covers is one that pays homage to Avengers #144 by Luciano Vecchio and a gorgeous pinup piece by Pablo Villalobos, both of which spotlight her new costume. In addition, artist Sam de la Rosa depicts Storm's ex-husband, Black Panther, whom she'll now stand alongside once more as teammates.

Although the 80-page giants generally have been pretty good, especially the wave of books we had celebrating various character anniversaries, DC of late have struggled a little with the anthology books. I should say it’s not just DC, but as once upon a time they were the masters of the format it is most noticeable with them. The mix of creative teams isn’t the issue either. A blend of known names and up-and-comers was always the way DC’s mystery books operated, and it served them very well. What drew me to this book the most was Paul Levitz writing Phantom Stranger (that alone is worth the entrance price), and Tom Mandrake and Kelley Jones illustrating two tales. Let’s hope the other stories can add some scary fun as well.
The know the score with these books,...

In these divisive times, it takes a lot to unite everyone, but Marvel Comics has done it. Earlier this week, they unveiled two new heroes: Snowflake and Safespace. The characters will be part of Luciano Vecchio and Daniel Kibblesmith’s New Warriors series and the company has been promoting Snowflake as their first non-binary superhero, with Kibblesmith explaining the pair as follows:
“Hyper aware of modern culture and optics, and they see their Super Heroics as ‘a post-ironic meditation on using violence to combat bullying. It’s this idea that these are terms that get thrown around on the internet that they don’t see as derogatory. [They] take those words and kind of wear them as badges of honour.”
It’s also worth watching him explain them in person, which feels like it might be lifted from a Christopher Guest movie:
The first non-binary superhero in Marvel and they named them Snowflake.

Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Batman and Harley Quinn, and understandably so. Aside from being the next DC animated film to arrive in what’s already been a solid year for the line, it unites two of the most popular characters in comics right now under the watch of the Clown Princess of Crime’s co-creator, Bruce Timm. Suffice it to say, when one of the minds behind Batman: The Animated Series is attached to a project, it’s going to instil some consumer confidence.
Now, if you’ve been keeping up to date with all the latest news regarding the movie (or just watched the trailer embedded at the top), then you’ve no doubt noticed a reprisal of the visual style The New Batman Adventures (or the “revamp episodes,” as they’re sometimes called) were known for.
To our delight, DC will continue appealing...
