Updated to clarify both series have moved to the CW app and cwtv.com: Canadian comedy Run The Burbs and British sitcom Everyone Else Burns have both been pulled from The CW schedule, the network has confirmed. Both are still available on The CW app and cwtv.com
They’ll be replaced for now on linear with reruns of Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Great American Joke Off.
The news of Everyone Else Burns comes just a few weeks after The CW ordered a second season of the critically acclaimed apocalyptic family comedy following Channel 4’s renewal of the UK series in August.
They are the most recent acquisitions to be pulled from the network, following Australian series Bump and Barons, which were pulled halfway through Seasons 2 and 1, respectively. Down to Earth With Zac Efron and Fantastic Friends, starring James and Oliver Phelps, were canceled after two episodes each.

On the last night of Rolling Loud Miami, a coalition of hip-hop's latest and greatest female rappers paid homage to the Queen. Not Queen Bey. Or Lil' Kim. But Trina. When the DJ dropped "Look Back at Me," a classic song from "Still Da Baddest," all of today's hip-hop queens were feeling it: Latto, TiaCorine, FloMilli, KaMillion, Kari Faux, Maiya the Don.
For those born and raised in the Southern United States, Trina was among the first wave of rappers to represent not only for the South but for women overall, and her impact is felt everywhere - from the rap game to modern television. Three years after André 3000 and Big Boi of Outkast said "The South got something to say" at the 1995 Source Awards, a swift and fierce rebuke of the bicoastal elites who thought the South should have no say in hip-hop, Trina made her debut on "Nann N***a,...

On The CW comedy Run The Burbs, the Phams, a young Vietnamese-South Asian family, take on the everyday aggravations and joys of suburban life. Still, as seen in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek of the August 21 episode, that does not make them immune to awkward conversations about death when Andrew (Andrew Phung) and Khia’s (Zoriah Wong) clever young son Leo (Roman Pesino) asks what happened to his pet fish. In the clip, we see Leo approach his parents, asking, “Where’s Rufus?” Already beginning to stutter, Andrew repeats the name as if he has no idea what the boy is getting at. “My goldfish? His bowl is still in my room, but it’s empty,” Leo says. From behind her son’s back, at the kitchen counter, Khia exchanges a look with her husband, wanting him to tell Leo the truth. But you’ll have to check out...

Since hip-hop's inception, the culture has been a male-dominated space. Women have had to fight for their right to exist alongside their male peers, exercise autonomy over their bodies, and rap without restrictions. It's no secret that the culture of hip-hop is inherently fueled by misogyny and patriarchy; female rappers have been ostracized, while their male counterparts stand to gain. But in recent years, an influx of women rappers have emerged, ushering in a resurgence of sexually explicit lyrics that have jolted mainstream music, social media, and even politics. Yes, women in music have always talked about their sexual prowess; women rappers are simply continuing a long and strong tradition of Black women loudly reclaiming their own sexuality, most notably under the umbrella of "pussy rap."

Growing up in the Bay Area, Diamonté Quiava Valentin Harper, now known to fans as Saweetie, listened to 106.1 Kmel and Wild 949 on her drive to school with her dad every morning. And like clockwork, Turf Talk's "It's a Slumper," her dad's favorite song, could be heard blasting from the 808 speakers in the trunk as they made their way across the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. At home, the family computer was riddled with viruses, thanks to her LimeWire downloads of Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma's mixtapes. This was Saweetie's first introduction to hip-hop.
"Both of my parents were really big hip-hop heads. My dad played a lot of the greats, Tupac, Biggie, but I'm from the Bay, so I grew up listening to Mac Dre, Too $hort, Mac Mall, and Mistah F.A.B.," the 30-year-old rapper tells Popsugar. ‘Rap Sh!t’ Music Supervisors Spent Three Months Trying to Clear Drake’s ‘No Friends in the Industry’
Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t” focuses on female friendships, but also female rappers and the challenges facing women in a male-dominated industry. For music supervisors Sarah Bromberg and Philippe Pierre, that meant pulling together a soundtrack of artists that not only reflected Miami’s rap scene but also the strong ties between its main characters.
In the Max show, Shawna has been chasing fame as a solo rapper, and she reunites with her friend Mia (rapper Kamillion) to form a rap duo. Together they navigate success, friendship and the lively city of Miami.
Here, Bromberg and Pierre break down key needle drops in the series and how they spent months trying to clear a Drake song, as well as having to change an original song at the last minute due to clearance issues.
“No Friends in the Industry” – Drake
Bromberg: This was not in the script. They were nice enough to not script Drake.

The “Wap” revolution, it appears, has reached the folkies. Over two albums of sublime folk and glowering atmospheric rock – 2016’s Don’t Let the Kids Win and 2019’s Crushing – Melbourne-via-Blue Mountains singer Julia Jacklin made a name for herself as not just an imaginative songwriter, but as a frank and forthright lyricist, tackling topics such as revenge porn and sexuality crises. Her third album Pre Pleasure, recorded in Montreal with The National producer Marcus Paquin, further embraces the ideal that openness in modern songwriting should extend far beyond the emotional into all aspects of the female psyche.
Alongside songs of love, religion, self-doubt, family and lost friendship, then, Jacklin sings of bedroom role-playing a sexy magician “naked beneath the cape”, and of watching porn to try (and fail) to turn herself on. Thanks to the likes of Peaches, St Vincent, Khia, Cardi B and now Jacklin, overt sex in music,...

This review originally ran following the film’s world premiere at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival.
Lena Dunham’s sophomore feature, “Sharp Stick,” opens with Taylour Paige doing a TikTok dance over a trap beat. In an ordinary era, this sequence might promptly set the entire auditorium abuzz at the film’s premiere: Dunham rubbing it in the faces of critics who have pestered her over lack of diversity throughout six seasons of her acclaimed HBO series, “Girls.” But this isn’t an ordinary era, as Covid-19 has for more than two years moved so much online.
After that opener, Dunham immediately retreats to the familiar territory of a nuclear family with two sisters and a single mother, a dynamic not foreign to those who saw her 2010 debut “Tiny Furniture.” As Paige’s Treina rehearses her moves, her sister, Sarah Jo, meekly holds the camera phone as their libertine, five-time-divorced mother,...

“Crooks and criminals.” That’s how Issa Rae described the music industry in an interview with the Los Angeles Times last winter, ahead of the finale of her landmark HBO series Insecure. “It’s probably the worst industry that I have ever come across,” Rae said of her experience. (She founded a record label in 2019.)
There are, in my view, no good industries, but navigating the music business can be especially punishing. Early support and mentorship are hard to find; label contracts can be seedy and vampiric. Success comes with its own set of troubles, too. It’s this process that Rae confidently portrays in Rap Sh!t, her anthemic new HBO Max comedy series about two friends who decide to form a rap group after their drunken freestyle goes viral.

Before their single “Material Girl” became a bonafide TikTok phenomenon, the rising Florida rapper Saucy Santana spent his time as the makeup artist to the Miami rap duo City Girls. Their professional relationship quickly blossomed into a friendship and creative partnership, and it’s not hard to see why. Like the Miami girls that gave us quotable classics like “Pussy Talk,” Saucy Santana is a natural social media star, often appearing in Instagram Live clips and generating micro-trends, like “Caresha please!” with Yung Miami, without even trying.

If you’ve been following the Grammys for the past few years, you may have noticed the prevalence of an often overlooked genre in some marquee categories: Americana has had a big resurgence, and the Grammys have been one of the places where this ever-evolving genre has shined through. Thus, the Americana Music Honors and Awards — which will be presented on September 22 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee — have become a good place for Grammy watchers to look if they want to get ahead of the curve and predict those dark horse artists. Let’s take a look at the nominees, the possible winners, and why these matter much more than you might think.

Haley Sanchez is quickly making a name for herself with her role as Greta on HBO Max's Generation. The series explores the intersecting lives of a group of teenagers who are trying to find their place in the world. For Sanchez, not only is this her first major TV project, but it's a dream she's worked her entire life to fulfill. "When I was younger, I feel like I wanted to [act], but it never seemed superpractical for me to do it - or at least that's what everybody told me," Sanchez told Popsugar. "This was this dream of mine that I was like, 'This is never going to happen.' It just seemed like an impossible thing." Rather than giving up, the 24-year-old decided to chase her dreams and "give it 100" by getting involved in theater, taking acting classes, and going on countless auditions. "I just wanted to be able...

Three years ago, Saweetie released a freestyle over Florida rapper Khia’s raunchy 2002 hit “My Neck, My Back.” She called it “Icy Girl,” and it quickly became one of that summer’s biggest anthems, with more than 110 million YouTube views to date — the first in a series of fun, catchy, confident singles, including 2019’s “My Type” and 2020’s “Tap In.” “Everything that I say is going to happen, happens,” says the 27-year-old artist, full of smiles over Zoom from her Los Angeles home. “It’s kind of scary. I just spoke [my career] into existence.

Last week, Rolling Stone published our completely updated list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. In making the new list, we received more than 300 ballots from artists, critics and other figures from throughout the music industry.
Among them all, the first ballot that came in was from Adam Horovitz (a.k.a. Ad-Rock of the Beastie Boys), and it set a high bar for taste, erudition and weirdness. Seeing vegetable-loving psychedelic rockers Ultimate Spinach and German clarinet master Hugo Strasser on a best albums did our hearts proud, even...

All through 2019, Jatavia “Jt” Johnson tracked the rise of her duo, City Girls, by watching the size of the jewelry worn by her musical partner, Caresha “Yung Miami” Brownlee, in their frequent video calls. “Things were getting bigger,” she says with a giggle.
Jt spent most of last year in a Tallahassee, Florida prison, serving out a sentence for credit-card fraud that began the day after City Girls’ feature spot on Drake’s smash “In My Feelings” introduced them to the world, in 2018. Hearing from Yung Miami, who handled all...

“Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn),” the R-rated girl gang-driven comic book actioner starring Margot Robbie and directed by Cathy Yan, bows in theaters Feb. 7 — the same date its equally female-driven soundtrack drops. And the latter even has its own trailer.
The film’s playlist includes tracks by Megan Thee Stallion & Normani, Halsey, Lauren Jauregui and Saweetie, who said she had a comically dramatic reaction to the news that she would be included.
“Girl, I passed out,” the “My Type” rapper told Variety on the Grammys red carpet Sunday evening, with a laugh.
Saweetie teamed up with electropop singer Galxara for the track “Sway with Me,” which, from the sounds of it in the trailer, riffs on the jazz-pop standard “Sway,” the English version of which Dean Martin and Dick Stabile’s orchestra made popular in 1954.

Lucky Louie, Season 1, Episode 6: “Flowers for Kim”
Written by Jon Ross
Directed by Andrew D. Weyman
Aired on July 17th, 2006 on HBO
Throughout Lucky Louie’s prior episodes, the show has struggled to toe the line between using a dated style to express contemporary ideas and genuinely espousing a retrograde attitude. Although some moments, like Rich’s misogynistic jokes, have at least had the awareness not to directly align the viewer with the sentiments being conveyed, others, like the racist caricature in “A Mugging Story,” have seemed flat-out backwards. Louis C.K.’s conception for the show doesn’t seem inherently misguided, but the missteps of the early episodes have made the approach feel questionable.
It’s refreshing then, to see a half hour which finally works as C.K. intends. From the beginning of the cold open, writer Jon Ross puts the freedom from censorship allowed by HBO to good use,...
