Marvel Graphic Novel #8: Super Boxers (1983)
Plot and Pencils by Ron Wilson
Script by John Byrne
Inks by Armando Gil
Colors by Bob Sharen, Steve Oliff, John Tartaglione, Joe D’Esposito & Mark Bright
Published by Marvel Comics
Among some comic reviewers, there’s an understanding that you don’t talk about the cover of the comic that you’re writing about. It’s tied into that old saying “don’t judge a book by its cover” and it would be a bit like critiquing a movie based on the movie poster in the theater lobby. One is completely separate from the other.
All of that said, the best thing about Ron Wilson’s 1983 graphic novel Super Boxers is Bill Sienkiewicz’s awesome cover.
The official title of the publication is Marvel® Graphic Novel No. 8: Super Boxers. Marvel’s then still young graphic novel line had already produced a number...

After spinning wheels with two straight Group Round episodes in which almost nothing happened, "American Idol" may start making some tough cuts tonight. Fox is promising that we're gonna get down to the Top 48 tonight, which still leaves many cuts to come, but at least things will begin to take shape for the season. Follow along as we get to trimming... 8:01 p.m. Et. "It's A-Game or It's Plan-b," says tonight's pre-credits tease. 8:01 p.m. It's morning on the last day of Hollywood Round and the contestants are pouring into Fords, except that then they're disembarking from buses. Slick product plug, "Idol." The judges are prepared to cut half of the remaining contestants after Solo Round. 8:02 p.m. Up first? Affected Actress Lauren Lott, whose grandmother is in the crowd. Lauren does a decent, but emotion-free cover of "Skyfall." I really don't think anybody's going to vote for Lauren,...

I'm not sure how often "American Idol" has done Hollywood Week, or how often Hollywood Week has reached its climax with group performances, but the reality is that group performances have almost always been anti-climatic and low-drama, but every once in a while somebody totally freaks and the drama is tremendous. Will Thursday (February 5) night's show feature a gripping Group Round? Or a fizzle in which one or two people forget lyrics, one or two people go to bed earlier and nobody really cares? Let's find out... 8:00 p.m. Et. When we left things, Gabby Z was freaking out a little, which would have been much more exciting if I knew who Gabby Zonnenveld was or if the competition would be the poorer in her absence. Will she pull out of her tail-spin? Harry Connick Jr to the rescue! He comes up on-stage, takes Gabby aside and tells her to recover her composure.

Sorry for the three "American Idol" recaps I missed the past two weeks. The combination of film responsibilities at the Sundance Film Festival and predictably atrocious wifi at the Sundance Film Festival had me casting aside some of my TV responsibilities. But I'm back and I'm all caught up after rushing through three "Idol" episodes in around 90 minutes over the weekend. There were some pretty good singers in New Orleans and San Francisco. I'd point to Maddy Hudson, Greyson Turner, Tyanna Jones, Rocky Peter and Hunter Larsen as just a few performers I'd be happy to see/hear again if the opportunity presents itself. Ditto with Carlos Santana's nephew and a few of the White Guys With Guitars who were better-than-generic, but not immediately nameable in my memory. We're starting Hollywood Week on Wednesday (February 4), so follow along! 8:00 p.m. Et. In case we've forgotten, in order to become American Idol,...

A random thought crossed my mind tonight while watching American Idol‘s Season 14 audition episode from Kansas City: What if Goldilocks hadn’t found a single bowl of porridge that met her exacting standards? What if not one of the three bears’ beds had proven suitable for her afternoon respite?
Girl might’ve just wandered out of the woods, been admitted to her local hospital with a case of mild hypothermia, treated and released. Not much of a story, huh?
Similarly, I’d gander that Idol‘s latest hour is one of the least likely in show history to penetrate the pop-cultural consciousness.

The NHL season is quickly approaching and it’s at this time of the year when general managers have to decide what to do before the next season begins. Will the Toronto Maple Leafs chase Roberto Luongo? Should they let their young prospects grow or fast-track them into the big-leagues?
In this article, we answer those questions and more, in our countdown of the top five moves the Leafs must make before the 2012-2013 NHL season begins.
1) Bring Nazem Kadri Up To The NHL
Nazem Kadri was supposed to be a stud, but so far he’s been a dud. The former seventh overall pick is one of only two players taken in the top 10 at the 2009 Entry Draft who have yet to make it to full-time player status with their organizations’ professional teams – the other being Scott Glennie.
Kadri’s been solid with the Marlies, tallying 53 points in 65 games.

Ron Wilson has apologised for making seemingly anti-gay comments on television. The Australian Channel Ten newsreader caused controversy when he used the word "disgusting" during an interview about Sydney's Mardi Gras parade with the event's co-chair Peter Urmson. Wilson said: "On the night there some of the spectacles you're seeing I'm assuming would even make you cringe. It becomes an exploitation almost of a sexual image rather than trying to explore the diversity of lifestyle." When Urmson insisted that the parade was usually colourful rather than disgusting, Wilson said: "With respect, there's a difference between colourful and disgusting in some (more)...
