Film Independent and FX have come together to support Latino creators in television.
In collaboration with the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, the entities have teamed to launch the Imaginar TV Incubator for Fearless Latinx Creators. Over two weeks, six said creators will participate in workshops and direct meetings with industry leaders to help develop their drama pilots, starting with a three-day intensive that will include honing their pitching skills and learning about FX’s development process.
At the end of three days, the creators will pitch their pilots to FX, then spend the rest of their 11 days or so meeting individually with creative advisors and execs to create a second original drama idea that will be pitched to the network on the last day of the incubator program. Each participant will receive a $3,000 grant as well as travel grants as necessary.

We at the Television Critics Association winter press tour mainlined our annual “Peak TV” lecture by Professor John Landgraf, better known as FX Networks content and productions chairman. In 2022, TV (and streaming) combined for a whopping 599 original, scripted series — a new all-time high.
Landgraf believes “Peak TV,” a term he coined years ago, has finally peaked. With cost-cutting all the rage, there’s nowhere to go but backward. That said, as he openly acknowledged several times during his Thursday morning TCA executive session, Landgraf has been wrong about the “peak” — a few times — before.
IndieWire caught up with Landgraf (and FX presidents of original programming Nick Grad and Gina Balian) around lunchtime, when we asked John how low Consolidation TV — a term we think we just coined — could go?
Although Landgraf cautioned he would be “throwing darts” here, he stepped up to the toe line. So long as there are “five,...

FX’s “Kindred,” streaming on Hulu, is the long-awaited adaptation of what is arguably sci-fi trailblazer Octavia E. Butler’s most well-known novel. Released in 1979, “Kindred” is a literary mash-up that is part slave narrative, fantasy and historical fiction. What many regard as Butler’s magnum opus transports a modern Black woman back in time to a plantation where she experiences life as an enslaved woman. To bring this work to life, which has been in the Hollywood pipeline since at least the 1990s, FX tasked Obie Award-winning playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, noted for his plays “Appropriate” and “An Octoroon” as well as Pulitzer Prize finalists “Gloria” and “Everybody.” Jacobs-Jenkins also served as a producer on HBO’s critically acclaimed, multiple Emmy Award-winning limited series “Watchmen,” which propelled the horrific Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 into popular conversations.
Which is all to say, this adaptation of “Kindred” has some serious bona fides bringing it to life.

Ever since her inaugural win on “American Idol” two decades ago, Kelly Clarkson has steadily risen in the music industry to occupy a coveted position in the public consciousness as one of the country’s preeminent sweethearts. She’s dominated the Billboard charts, won three Grammys and served as a judge on NBC’s “The Voice.” Now, with five Daytime Emmys under her belt, the multihyphenate is looking to solidify her standing as the go-to daytime host with her eponymous talk show on the same network, taking over the time slot that catapulted Ellen DeGeneres into daytime royalty as “The Kelly Clarkson Show” goes deeper into its fourth season.

Set in Britain during the ’90s, the book focuses on three childhood friends: Kathy, Tommy, and Ruth. Raised at the mysterious Hailsham boarding school, the three are clones created for the purpose of growing up healthy and donating their organs to science. Resigned to their fates, the three grow up close, but interpersonal conflicts between them lead to mistakes that haunt them for the rest of their short lives.
