HiddenLight Productions, the production outfit co-founded by Hillary Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton, is backing a new documentary on efforts by George and Amal Clooney’s Clooney Foundation for Justice to investigate Russian war crimes in Ukraine.
The feature doc, The Swallows Will Return (working title), will follow the investigative work of Anya Neistat, a preeminent war crimes investigator at the foundation, as she and her team try to expose human rights violations by Russian invaders and bring the perpetrators to justice. The Clooney Foundation for Justice, set up by George and Amal Clooney in 2016, backs teams of human rights lawyers who gather evidence to bring war crime perpetrators to trial under the principle of “universal jurisdiction,” that a war crime is a crime against humanity and punishable anywhere in the world.

“In Her Hands,” a Netflix documentary produced by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, has unveiled its first official trailer.
The film — which won the audience award at the 18th Camden International Film Festival last month — is filmed over a two-year period, and tells the story of Zarifa Ghafari, who at 26 became one of Afghanistan’s first female mayors and the youngest to ever hold the position.
The film documents her fight for survival against the backdrop of her country’s accelerated unraveling as Western forces announce their retreat and the Taliban returns to power. Amid these tectonic changes, Zarifa must make the most difficult decision of her life.
“In Her Hands,” which is directed by Tamana Ayazi and Marcel Mettelsiefen (“Watani: My Homeland”), premiered in Toronto on Sept. 9.
The Clintons served as executive producers on the film, which marks the first non-fiction effort for their London-headquartered HiddenLight Productions. Ben Silverman’s...

Hillary Clinton is in an ebullient mood, and for good reason.
Clinton, though she remains an avid observer of political trends, is out of the crucible of hunting for votes. And at this latest stop on a tour that has included visits to the Venice and Toronto film festivals, she and her daughter, Chelsea Clinton, are seeking something new: your eyeballs.
HiddenLight Prods., which the pair launched with Sam Branson, has launched its first series, “Gutsy.” The Apple TV+ documentary series is based on the Clintons’ 2019 “Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience,” and in it, the former secretary of state and the Oxford Ph.D. kibitz with Kim Kardashian and Megan Thee Stallion, as well as feminist icon Gloria Steinem and labor activist Dolores Huerta.

Fifteen years after I first came to the Toronto International Film Festival and saw Juno, Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, Into the Wild and The Savages, among other excellent films, I’m happy, as always, to be back at the best fest north of the border, and hopeful, as always, to match the high bar set by my first visit to it. Rather than rush to file separate write-ups of every noteworthy thing that I see and hear while on the ground here, at the cost of missing other noteworthy things, I’ve decided to file a dispatch every few days addressing a bunch of stuff. This initial piece covers the fest’s first three days.

Hillary Clinton is no stranger to film festivals. In 2020, the former Secretary of State traveled to Sundance and Berlin to promote the Hulu docuseries about her career. However, this year Clinton arrived at the Toronto International Film Festival with her daughter Chelsea in a very different capacity — as executive producers. The pair launched the new film and TV company HiddenLight Productions in 2021, but the fruits of those labors just emerged this week.

Hilary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton’s HiddenLight Productions is co-producing a new feature documentary with the team behind Sundance 2019 title “Gaza.”
“In the Shadow of Beirut” is a cinematic portrait of modern-day Lebanon as seen through the eyes of four families living in the impoverished Sabra and Shatila neighbourhoods of the city, the scene of an infamous massacre in 1982.
The film will be executive produced by Hillary Clinton, Chelsea Clinton and Siobhan Sinnerton for HiddenLight.
The doc is filmed over four years with unique access to the families within these largely restricted areas and co-directed by Stephen Gerard Kelly, in his debut, and Garry Keane. Kelly built up his relationship with the families over a six-year period.
The film follows its protagonists through the pandemic and the deteriorating economic crisis engulfing the country. However, the struggles of the film’s central protagonists began long before the deadly 2020 port explosion that rocked Beirut.

Hillary Rodham Clinton has done a lot in her long career. But until now, none of the tomes written by the former Secretary of State, U.S. senator, first lady and winner of the 2016 popular vote have gotten the big-screen treatment. That could change.
Madison Wells, Gigi Pritzker’s entertainment company, has acquired and will develop a feature adaptation of “State of Terror,” a thriller that Clinton penned with help from best-selling writer Louise Penny. Both writers will serve as consultants on the project, as well as executive producers. Clinton certainly knows of what she writes. “State of Terror” is rooted in Foggy Bottom intrigue. It follows a novice Secretary of State Ellen Adams, who is unexpectedly brought into the administration by a newly-elected president, her political and personal adversary. Clinton, of course, got the state department gig after losing out in the 2008 presidential election to Barack Obama.

Hillary Clinton and Chelsea Clinton have outlined the strategy behind their nascent film and TV company HiddenLight Productions, revealing that they have optioned a number of books, including Jacqueline Winspear’s “Maisie Dobbs” series.
Speaking at the Royal Television Society conference in Cambridge on Wednesday, the Clintons appeared via a virtual live-link, in conversation with British historian and presenter Mary Beard.
Hillary Clinton appeared to be very much in her element while discussing her production company’s goals within the content landscape, and what she and daughter Chelsea hoped to accomplish.
“It’s exciting because we believe passionately in bringing these stories to light,” said Hillary Clinton. “For too long, attention has been paid to the loudest voices in the room, but generations of tastemakers around the globe are making a difference. Today particularly, there’s a hunger for people to figure out how to make sense of our world.

Exclusive: HiddenLight Productions, the new production company founded by former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Sam Branson and Chelsea Clinton, has acquired the series adaptation rights to best-selling author Gayle Tzemach Lemmon’s The Daughters of Kobani: A Story of Rebellion, Courage, and Justice.
Given Lemmon’s track record going with best-selling books being adapted into feature films, the bidding war was quite competitive with several bidders before HiddenLight emerged the victor. For the Clintons, the property feels like the perfect IP to help launch their banner given the subject matter and strong women that helped Lemmon write it.
“The Daughters of Kobani is an extraordinary account of brave, defiant women fighting for justice and equality,” Rodham Clinton said. “We created HiddenLight to celebrate heroes — sung and unsung alike — whose courage is too often overlooked, and we could not be more thrilled to bring this inspiring story to viewers around the world.

April 22 is Earth Day, and in light of the recent tragedies that have played out and devastated the world, they've decided to take their Earth Day programming in a different direction. They'll be having an “Earth Fights Back” weekend.
On Earth Day, they will kick off their new original 13-episode documentary series Dangerous Planet at 7 Pm Et. At 9 Pm, Sam Branson will host a new original special entitled Man Versus Earth.
These shows certainly sound intriguing, and if nothing else, they are definitely timely and appropriate as the world watches the aftermath of the destruction in Japan and the Earth's violent behavior is a headline every night on the evening news.
Here's a clip from their press release:
