Meg Stalter is taking the lead in her latest feature “Cora Bora.”
The comedy, which premiered at the 2023 SXSW Festival, stars the “Hacks” breakout actress as the titular musician who goes home to win back her girlfriend only to realize it’s much more than her love life that needs salvaging.
Hannah Pearl Utt directs the comedy from a script by Rhianon Jones. The cast includes Jojo T. Gibbs, Manny Jacinto, Ayden Mayeri, Thomas Mann, Chrissie Fit, Andre Hyland, Margaret Cho, Chelsea Peretti, and Darrell Hammond. The film features original music and a score composed by indie artist Miya Folick.
“I’m thrilled for audiences to get to see Meg in a leading role and to fall for her character the way I have,” director Utt said in a press statement.
The IndieWire review called Stalter a “whirlwind and a universe unto herself” who boasts “her unique brand of uncomfortably confident loser” onscreen.

Mitt has a long and dark family history: his physicians’ forebears are guilty of grievous sins, extreme instances of medical malpractice committed at the very hospital where he now studies. Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams is officially back on the market. Nearly a year after Searchlight Pictures acquired the body-building drama, the specialty arm of Walt Disney Studios has quietly returned rights of the movie to the filmmakers, who will now shop it to other buyers.
The move comes mere weeks after Majors was convicted of assault and harassment, stemming from an incident involving his ex-partner, Grace Jabbari. Searchlight delivered the news to the Magazine Dreams team late last week that it would not be releasing the film, according to sources.
Searchlight had no comment.
Magazine Dreams debuted to fanfare last January at Sundance, where Majors’ performance as amateur body builder Killian Maddox earned him rave reviews and early awards buzz. The film’s director, Elijah Bynum, was hailed as the next big director.
Searchlight bought the film for what sources say was around $2 million in February 2023. It was mapping out a late-year awards season campaign.

One week after Jonathan Majors was convicted of assault and harassment, his film “Magazine Dreams” has been released back to the filmmakers by Searchlight, which will no longer be distributing, Variety has confirmed.
The Walt Disney Studios specialty arm acquired the body building drama a few weeks after it premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival. The filmmakers will now be free to shop the film to other distributors.
“Magazine Dreams,” directed by Elijah Bynum, debuted to positive reviews at the festival and sold for a reported mid-seven figures. Majors was hailed for his performance as amateur body builder Killian Maddox.
But Majors’ March 25 arrest put the film’s release in question, and it was officially removed from Searchlight’s calendar in October.
The Majors conviction came after an incident involving his ex-partner Grace Jabbari. His sentence hearing is scheduled for Feb. 6.

Searchlight Pictures has dropped “Magazine Dreams” starring Jonathan Majors and returned the film’s rights to the filmmakers, who intend to again shop it on the open market, IndieWire has confirmed.
Searchlight acquired the movie out of last year’s Sundance Film Festival and slated it for release during awards season, but pulled it from its release calendar after Majors was arrested on March 25 for assault and harassment roughly a month after “Magazine Dreams” was acquired.
Majors last month was found guilty of assault, leading Disney to fire him from his duties as Kang in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the time, THR reported it was unlikely “Magazine Dreams” would ever be released by Searchlight, even directly to streaming on Hulu. But rather than sit on a shelf, the film has a chance to see the light of day elsewhere should the filmmakers find an interested buyer.
Searchlight had no comment.

The Sundance Film Festival-hosted world premiere Elijah Bynum’s Magazine Dreams may have gotten off to a bumpy start as traffic delays and festival congestion in Park City caused the film to start 45 minutes late. But after the credits rolled and the lights came up, its star Jonathan Majors faced the Eccles Theatre audience and received an electric standing ovation.
In what many are calling a brutal and fully committed performance, Majors stars as Killian Maddox, an amateur bodybuilder who sacrifices health, both mental and physical, to pursue a dream of superstardom while he struggles to maintain control of a volatile temper.
The official fest synopsis calls the film “a provocative film that respects the dignity of its protagonist as it pulls no punches in portraying the most physically and emotionally painful moments of his darkening odyssey.” Those who caught the screening were quick to describe it as Taxi Driver.

While Majors is one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars after turns in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Lovecraft Country, The Harder They Fall and Da 5 Bloods, he was not going to drive up a small film’s limited budget with pricey airfare. A new documentary from Hulu seeks to capture the legacy of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The streamer today dropped the first teaser trailer for Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, from director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua. This teaser offers insight from Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Rob Lowe, and others about the rise of the Lakers. No premiere date has been set.
The ten-part docuseries is executive produced by Lakers CEO and controlling owner, Jeanie Buss. It was in development well before the March premiere of HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, which has taken hits for, among other things, depicting Jerry West as a foul-mouthed and moody man. In a column, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar wrote “Jerry Buss is egomaniac entrepreneur, Jerry West is crazed coach, Magic Johnson is sexual simpleton, I’m pompous prick. They are caricatures, not characters.”

Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Kareem Abdul Jabbar are sharing their stories of being part of the Lakers dynasty in the new teaser for Hulu’s “Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers,” which dropped Monday.
Hailing from director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua, the new series aims to capture the rise and success of one of the most dominant and iconic franchises in professional sports by featuring exclusive access to the Buss family and revealing interviews with players, coaches and front office executives.
When charismatic real estate tycoon Dr. Jerry Buss purchased the Lakes in a risky and complex business deal, he faced a legion of doubters. But Buss pioneered the business of basketball by kicking off the “Showtime” era in 1979. He raised the price of floor seats, introduced dancers and a live band, opened an exclusive private club inside the arena and cultivated famous fans in Hollywood.

The organization says FIFA+ will provide access to thousands of live and archive matches, news and tournament information and a suite of original series from the likes of Fulwell 73, Andrew and Stuart Douglas, and England striker turned broadcaster Gary Lineker’s Goalhanger Films.

The service launches today in five languages, with an additional six following in June. At launch, it’ll be available on web and cellular devices, with other connected devices following.

In the first trailer for the Sundance award-winner “Shirley,” Elisabeth Moss does what all the heroines in her character’s books do: “They go mad.”
Moss stars in “Shirley” as famed horror author Shirley Jackson, who wrote books such as “The Lottery” and “The Haunting of Hill House” (which was adapted into a widely popular limited series for Netflix), and she stars alongside a cast that includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Logan Lerman and Odessa Young. The sinister first look at the film gives a taste of Moss’ spitfire performance.
“Shirley, what are you writing now,” a party guest asks Jackson. She replies, “A little novella. I’m calling it ‘None of Your Goddamn Business.'”
