Even superheroes have to pass their driver’s ed classes, and nobody in the Marvel Cinematic Universe feels that more than “Ms. Marvel” herself, Kamala Khan.
Played by 19-year-old Iman Vellani, Kamala learns how to control her mysterious, energy-projection powers while balancing the challenges of high school guidance counselors and traditional parents who won’t let her stay out too late. If that sounds like a cross between a typical Marvel movie and a coming-of-age John Hughes movie, that was exactly the plan.
“All the John Hughes movies, like ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day,’ are obviously a reference,” director Adil El Arbi told Variety. “The TV show ‘Parker Lewis Can’t Lose,’ which is based on the John Hughes movies, Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-Man’ movies, all the American high-school TV shows, like ‘Saved by the Bell,’ ‘Boy Meets World.’ We tried to convey that style.”

John Hughes' "Sixteen Candles" is a beloved teen classic that follows a young girl (Hughes' muse Molly Ringwald) whose sweet sixteen turns sour when her entirely family forgets her birthday during preparations for her sister's wedding. While being relentlessly pursued by a randy geek (Anthony Michael Hall), Samantha pines for the dreamy senior Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling). "Sixteen Candles" has some problematic elements, such as the character of Long Duk Dong (Gedde Watanabe) and a scene that makes light of date rape; Molly Ringwald even revisited the film through a post-#MeToo lens in an essay for The New Yorker. Despite that, though, the...

John Hughes' directorial debut "Sixteen Candles" is one of the most popular romantic comedies of the 1980s. It tells the story of Sam (Molly Ringwald), a young teenager whose 16th birthday is overshadowed by her older sister's wedding, causing her parents to forget about her special day. The only thing keeping her going is her unrequited high school crush. Sam secretly pines for Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling), her senior in school and a certified dreamboat, while simultaneously navigating the affections of Ted (Anthony Michael Hall), Aka "The Geek," and seemingly the only boy interested in her.

I was a huge fan of 2014s Australian zombie gorefest Wyrmwood: Road of the Dead and so I have spent the intervening years awaiting the long-gestating sequel with bated breath… and now, finally, it’s here. Was it worth the wait?
Er… F*ck yes!
Picking up just after where the first film left off, Wyrmwood: Apocalypse shows us what happens to Brooke when she goes full-on zombie. At the same time starting a new story which follows Rhys ((Luke McKenzie), the twin of one the characters from the original film, whose running a weird zombie experiment “camp” where he captures and runs tests on the undead – using them to power his facility, to practice boxing with, you know, the usual; all the while looking for signs of a cure.

"We wouldn't be gangsters if we always did what we were told..." Quiver Distribution has debuted a new official US trailer for the New Zealand gang drama Savage, which originally premiered at the London Film Festival last year. Starring Jake Ryan as Danny, and John Tui as Moses, along with Chelsie Preston Crayford and Olly Presling. This looks gritty and intense,...

The pair discuss the attraction of the project and the roles at hand, and on their research that helped them understand this underbelly of society.
Meanwhile Ryan comments on how long it took to put his tattoos on in make-up every day, and we ask the actor about leaving behind his soap-star days, having appeared for on Home & Away. We also get chatting with Tui about his experience shooting the movie and how it differs from his time spent on huge sets for huge blockbusters, ranging from appearances in franchise such as Star Wars, The Hobbit and Fast & Furious.

While some distributors are cutting back, Umbrella Entertainment plans to release approximately 18 titles in cinemas this year, up from 14 in 2019.
The distributor has high hopes for its Australian acquisitions which run the gamut of genres from drama, horror and Western to sci-fi.
“We’re passionate about overcoming the cultural cringe that Australian audiences still have a tendency to display and are dedicated to fostering new Australian talent,” Umbrella head of acquisitions Ari Harrison tells If.
“As a small, close-knit team, we aim to concentrate our efforts on films that we love and can support from the ground up. We want to work hand-in-hand with the filmmakers with the goal of getting their film ‘out there’ so that it finds its audience.
“Essentially we aim to ensure that the films we acquire have the capacity for national theatrical success in Australia and New Zealand, with potential for continued growth via their ancillary platforms.

Adam Goldberg is feeling Molly Ringwald’s pain: During this Wednesday’s Sixteen Candles-themed The Goldbergs season premiere, Adam’s parents forget their son’s birthday — but the disappointment is not without its upside.
“I always thought Sixteen Candles was a delightful comedic premise, but when it happens to you, it’s more shocking and hurtful,” Adam laments to his friends in TVLine’s exclusive sneak peek.
Dave Kim, however, thinks the parents’ slip-up may be the key to moving up the high school social ladder. “You’re finally under your parents’ radar. Let’s use this chance to throw a big-ass birthday rager!

Tagline: "They come from the darkness." There are a number of haunted houses in horror films, of late. Out of the Shadows, from Bronte Pictures, was shot in Australia. It has already been released in this country. In the film, a pregnant woman moves into her dream home. But, a stranger is living just down the hall. Now, Kat (Kendal Rae) must uncover this shade's past, or lose herself to insanity. As well, the film stars: Goran D. Kleut (Alien: Covenant), Lisa Chappell and Jake Ryan. A trailer for the film was released in October. Now, the film's official artwork is hosted here, for fans of haunted house thrillers. It is hard not to think of Terror Film's The House on Pine Street (2016), when watching the trailer for Out of the Shadows. Both films deal with a very pregnant woman and a strange haunting. Also, both films have haunted cribs...

Blue World Order is an independent film from Canberra, Australia. The film is a blend of science fiction, thriller and post-apocalyptic actioner; it has a little bit of everything. The film was recently completed in late 2015. Since then, a trailer has been released. The clip shows a futuristic world, in which nuclear war has decimated societies. From Emp pulses to a deadly pandemic, there is little opportunity to survive in this world. The film's first trailer and early stills are hosted here. The trailer shows characters driving through a wide open desert. Reds streak the skies. In this landscape, a man searches for a cure for his infected daughter. Jake (Jake Ryan) must team up with others to find the cure, while a militaristic group stands in his way. Showing a diverse series of scenes, Blue World Order, from its trailer, looks like an ambitious film project. The film is...

The tables are turned on serial killer Mick Taylor in the latest iteration of Wolf Creek commissioned by Stan, which starts shooting today at the Adelaide Studios and numerous locations in South Australia.
Vampire Academy.s Lucy Fry plays Eve, an American tourist in the six-part series directed by Tony Tilse and Greg Mclean, scripted by Peter Gawler and Felicity Packard.
John Jarratt.s Mick sets out to murder Eve.s family but she survives, rebuilds her shattered existence and vows revenge.
The series will have a markedly different tone to Mclean.s horror movies, focusing on Eve.s journey. Stan content and product director Nick Forward tells If, .No one wanted to make a 6-hour horror movie. We spent six months with the producers and writers looking for a hook for a televisual drama.
.Mick Taylor is still the grim reaper but this is a thriller about Eve.s journey.
