- Ray Sawyer was born on February 1, 1937 in Alabama, USA. He was an actor, known for Sputnik Fever (2007), Dr Hook: You Make My Pants Want to Get Up and Dance (1978) and Heart of Nashville: One Big Family (1985). He was married to Linda Lombardi. He died on December 31, 2018 in Daytona Beach, Florida, USA.

- In 1969, he joined the band which became Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, two years after he lost an eye in a car accident.
- Famous as the singer with an eye-patch in 70s band Dr. Hook.
- Despite not being the lead singer, his eye patch and cowboy hat made him the most easily recognized member of the band. However, he sang lead vocals on their 1972 hit, "Cover of the Rolling Stone". (They did eventually appear on the front of the magazine in 1973, albeit in caricature.).
- Ray's nephew is Zack Sawyer, vocalist in the group Wild Fire.
- Sawyer's career in music spanned 56 years, from the release of his first single - "Rockin' Satellite" - in 1960, through to his final live concert performance in October 2015.
