Brian and Michael D’Addario, the brother duo known better as The Lemon Twigs, have today announced their upcoming fourth album Everything Harmony. Ahead of its release on May 5th via Captured Tracks, the band have also unveiled the single “Any Time of Day” as well as a run of 2023 tour dates.
Taking sonic inspiration from “the likes of Simon & Garfunkel, Arthur Russell, and Moondog,” The Lemon Twigs wrote, recorded, produced, and engineered Everything Harmony all by themselves between New York City and San Francisco. A press release describes the record as shifting “between moments of depression and isolation and episodes of dizzying euphoria.” Pre-orders are ongoing.
“Any Time of Day” especially lets joy and desperation co-mingle, its lyrics spurred by an unfortunate business/legal kerfuffle: “We were hired to write material and act in an interactive TV show about an imaginary ’70s brother band,” the band says in a statement.

Best of the Week Sinister - Summit - Blu-ray and DVD Director: Scott Derrickson Cast: Ethan Hawke, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ransone,Michael Hall D'Addario, Rob Riley. Full cast + crew Sinister is the kind of genuinely scary horror movie that's so effective you just want to curse at it. It's not only the best horror movie of 2012, but one of the best in years, making excellent use of that rare combination of interesting characters with a creepy premise. There are a handful of movies a year that pull off the latter, but it's rare that they also nail the former, and it's the difference maker between a movie that can freak you out while you're watching it and one that'll pop into your brain and shoot down your spine...

When Sinister was released in October 2012, we had the pleasure of chatting with co-writer C. Robert Cargill and co-writer/director Scott Derrickson about their gut-punch thriller. With the film's home video release this week, we thought it the perfect time to catch up with the duo.
Derrickson and Cargill (read our previous interview with them here) spoke more about the mythology they created for Sinister as well as what's been the most surprising aspect of their collaboration since they began writing the project together not all that long ago. We also heard from the pair about a potential Sinister sequel and what sort of pitfalls they want to avoid when creating a follow-up to what was by far one of the more intense horror flicks to grace the big screen in 2012.
Be warned, though; the following interview with Derrickson and Cargill does contain some spoilers so if you haven't seen Sinister yet,...

The flick Sinister (review here) had the DC staff divided. Some liked it and some hated it, but either way it did great box office so a sequel could always be looming. In fact the first chatter has begun. Read on for the latest on the continuing adventures of Mr. Boogie.

New 'Sinister' movie delivered lots of very weird thrills, suspense & more. Summit Entertainment released their new horror/thriller flick "Sinister" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was just ok,and that was strictly because things picked up towards the end. It moved along quite slow at first, but finally served up some pretty thrilling moments. It stars: Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, James Ransone, Fred Dalton Thompson, Nicholas King, Clare Foley, Victoria Leigh, Juliet Rylance, and Michael Hall D'Addario. In the new flick, Ellison Oswalt (Ethan Hawke) and his family ,move into a house, where a brutal hanging of a couple of kids took place right in the back yard. Ellison started investigating the mystery hanging for his new mystery book, and to hopefully solve the missing details of the case. As he got deeper into the details of the case, mysterious, paranormal,...

It was impossible to avoid the early buzz for Scott Derrickson's Sinister. The film screened at the South by Southwest Film Festival back in early March and the positive response was immediate. Walking in with expectations was unavoidable. Will it manage to not only be scary, but also narratively engaging? Will it be scary without wholly relying on jump scares? The questions are valid and the answers vary, but what's certain is what scares some doesn't necessarily scare everyone, but Sinister taps into so many different forms of terror there will surely be something for everyone. Ethan Hawke stars as Ellison Oswalt, a true crime novelist who, along with his wife (Juliet Rylance), daughter (Clare Foley) and son (Michael Hall D'Addario), has just moved into a new home so he can research and write his latest story. With a hit book several years in his past, he's looking to...

True crime writing never pays. Ellison (Ethan Hawke) had a widely-acclaimed bestseller his first time out, but that was ten years ago. He hasn't been able to replicate that success, though he keeps trying, continually moving his family as close to the scenes of unsolved crimes as he can. He investigates the crimes, makes enemies of local law enforcement, and writes books that are meeting with diminishing returns. His wife Tracy (Juliet Rylance) is supportive, but her patience has its limits, and those limits are coming into sight. Mostly, she's worried about their two children, who have been constantly uprooted; young Ashley (Clare Foley) semms Ok, but 12-year-old Trevor (Michael Hall D'Addario) is manifesting signs of stress and anxiety. With these character threads established, Scott...

*full disclosure: a theatrical screening of this film was provided by Alliance Films. Director: Scott Derrickson. Writers: C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson. Cast: Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, James Ransone, Michael Hall D'Addario, Clare Foley, Juliet Rylance, and Fred Dalton Thompson. There have only been a few films in this viewer's history that have been truly unsettling. The Exorcist (1973) and Event Horizon (1997) are two of only a handful of films that have left a horrifying mark on this person's psyche. Scott Derrickson's (The Exrocism of Emily Rose) Sinister is now added to this list. Christopher Young's score does much of the unhinging. A character named Bagul or the simpler Mr. Boogie (Nicholas King) does the rest. From dark backgrounds to footsteps heard in the attic, the viewer just will not know when the next murder or appearance of Boogie will take place. Sinister bravely finds itself in the found footage style of filmmaking,...

A new red-band trailer has been released for the upcoming horror thriller Sinister, which stars Ethan Hawk. There is no dialogue spoken in this latest trailer, just a creepy score, with crazy sounds, and some pretty disturbing visuals. It's the best trailer I've seen for the film, because it was the most effective in making me feel a little uncomfortable and disturbed. The movie looks like a great psychological horror thriller that will screw with people's minds. I was kind of on the fence about this movie until I watched this trailer.
In the story Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist that moves his family into a house where another family was murdered. That doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do. There, he discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.

In October, Lionsgate will release Scott Derickson's low-budget shocker, "Sinister," a super fun and occasionally very scary horror film starring Ethan Hawke as a true crime author desperate to recapture the fame he experienced as a young writer. So desperate, in fact, that he moves his entire family into a house where a savage murder spree recently took place, where a family, much like his own, was brutally killed. From there things get considerably spookier, with Hawke uncovering a malevolent evil lurking in a series of film canisters in the house's attic. Today we get to exclusively debut a pair of spooky new stills from the movie, ones that might just haunt your dreams. The first photo shows Hawke's young son Trevor (Michael Hall D'Addario), who is contorting himself into a very uncomfortable position, because he suffers from night terrors… Or is it the evil force that is gripping the house?...

Box Office: Magic Mike movie and Ted performed beyond expectations at the North American box office on Friday. Starring Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, Alex Pettyfer, Olivia Munn, Matthew McConaughey, and Adam Rodriguez, Magic Mike is expected to be the no. 2 movie at the box office this weekend. The no. 1 hit is Mark Wahlberg's Ted, which may reach as high as $50m by Sunday evening. In addition to Wahlberg, Ted also features Mila Kunis and Seth MacFarlane, who also directed. At no. 3 on Friday was Tyler Perry's Madea Witness Protection, which may outperform Perry's Madea's Big Happy Family. At no. 8 was People Like Us, a new entry directed by Alex Kurtzman and starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Michael Hall D'Addario, Michelle Pfeiffer, Mark Duplass, and Philip Baker Hall. All films depend on their endings to really stick the landing and send the audience home believing they've spent their time wisely. Some endings can break a film, some don't do a whole lot one way or another and then there are those that bring everything together in such a way it elevates everything you just watched. People Like Us fits into the latter of those descriptions as Alex Kurtzman (known primarily as one of the writers behind the Transformers franchise and Star Trek) steps away from genre features and makes a feature directorial debut with a film he co-wrote with his writing partner Bob Orci. One with an ending that gives reason to everything that comes before it with performances strong enough to do so.
I mention this because People Like Us can easily be interpreted as a manipulative piece of filmmaking, and one that's easy to get frustrated...

Chris Pine stars in People Like Us, opening today.
If you're planning to go to the movies this weekend and Magic Mike isn't your cup of tea, then you might consider People Like Us as an alternative.
In People Like Us, Chris Pine plays Sam -- and he's kind of a jerk. But like many of Pine's characters, he has a heart of gold. When Sam's father dies, he finds out he has a long lost sister (Elizabeth Banks) and a feisty nephew (Michael Hall D'Addario) and his life turns upside down -- not to mention his relationship with his mother (Michelle Pfeiffer).
The film is written and directed Alex Kurtzman and represents a departure from his usual sci-fi and action-packed projects such as Transformers and Alias. Forget the globetrotting spies and mechanical aliens, People like Us is a very grounded story that is loosely based on Kutzman's relationship with his own sister.

New York — "People Like Us" is that increasingly rare kind of film: an adult drama. The filmmakers seem so nervous about this prospect that they fill the movie with action-film editing and a camera that moves so restlessly through domestic life that you'd think it lost its keys.
At one point, I was sure the dramatic opening of a door was going to reveal a Klingon, not complicated memories of a deceased parent.
That's not a coincidence: "People Like Us" is directed by Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the script with Roberto Orci (along with Jody Lambert). Kurtzman and Orci are the same duo that wrote the 2009 "Star Trek" reboot, as well as the blockbusters "Mission: Impossible III" and "Transformers," and the TV series "Alias" and "Fringe."
If, in their knack for suspense, they imbue "People Like Us" with impatience, they also keep it entertaining, rendering a familiar, heart-rending melodrama as...

Dreamworks premiered People Like Us at the Seattle Film Festival back at the beginning of June. The film comes from director and co-writer Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and stars Chris Pine alongside Elizabeth Banks, Michelle Pfieffer, Olivia Wilde and Michael D'Addario and centers on the story of Sam (Pine), a fast-talking salesman whose father, whom he hasn't spoken to in years, dies suddenly. As a result, Sam is called home to put his father's estate in order and receives a shock when he learns he has a sister (Banks) he didn't even know existed. I had a chance to sit down for 25 minutes with both Kurtzman and Pine the day after the film screened and I originally planned on presenting the interview as one piece until Pine gave a passionate response to my very last question, which I have transcribed but also included the complete audio at the bottom of this post.

The first awesomely creepy trailer has been released for Scott Derrickson's (The Day the Earth Stood Still) new horror film Sinister. Late last night the trailer for Scott Derrickson's new horror flick Sinister, which played at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year to (from what I can tell) largely positive reviews. The film stars Ethan Hawke as a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror. His investigation leads him to an entity that may be placing his own family in harm's way. I believe that "entity" is what can be seen in the screen capture above. The film is due in theaters on October 5 and co-stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Juliet Rylance, Fred Dalton Thompson, James Ransone, Clare Foley and Michael Hall D'Addario. Watch the trailer below.
