Though the tide of late has turned more towards a Bohemian Rhapsody-powered focus on biopics of musicians, there is always room for other entertainers with particularly compelling stories. One such example is Saturday Night Live staple-turned-film comedy actor Chris Farley, whose star burned bright before it was snuffed out decades too early by excess and addiction. Paul Walter Hauser is now attached to star as Farley in the film to be directed by actor/producer and now filmmaker Josh Gad.
Farley, who initially had seemed destined to join his father in the oil business, was lured away by the thrill of performing, eventually ending up at Chicago's Second City improv troupe (which he joined the same day as fellow future comedy icon Stephen Colbert) and from there was recruited by Lorne Michaels for SNL.

With marketing for Star Trek Beyond calling back to it, we look back at The Motion Picture.
As the Enterprise crew gets set to boldly go where no man has gone before in Star Trek Beyond, an opportunity arises to look at the first big screen adventure of Captain James T. Kirk and Spock. Star Trek Beyond has certainly embraced Star Trek: The Motion Picture as the posters deliberately call back to the film. Why would Star Trek Beyond want to draw comparisons to what is widely considered to be the black sheep of the franchise? Perhaps they envision Trekkies far and wide are nostalgic and nostalgia is the hottest commodity in town.

It’s hard to pinpoint what the standout feature of WWE 2K16 is, but there’s a good chance that it’s the game’s bumper roster.
My word how spectacular it is.
When news broke about 2K16 housing the biggest roster ever in the months before the game’s release, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. I’m sure you’ll agree that we got far more than we ever could have hoped for.
Although, there was one major issue with the roster and that was the exclusion of the Four Horsewomen. WWE’s gaming universe was left with a bitter taste in their mouths after Samoa Joe – a man who debuted in Nxt last May – somehow made his way into a Dlc, even though Sasha, Becky, Bayley and Charlotte had made their mark on the company a long time before.

Brock Lesnar versus Braun Strowman is on the books for SummerSlam, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting.
On top of that, Strowman is also set for a feud with Roman Reigns, which will presumably be a WWE Title feud. In Vince McMahon’s mind, he probably sees Hogan versus Andre.
To prepare the Black Sheep for all of that, the Observer says the WWE have plans to book him as the winner of this year’s Andre The Giant Battle Royal. That will kick start a big push, eventually culminating in the match with Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
This means the chances of Strowman versus The Undertaker at WrestleMania are over. “Any talk of Undertaker vs. Strowman now is 99 percent dead,” the Observer states.
That’s a relief, as that match would have undoubtedly sucked. At least against Lesnar at SummerSlam, Strowman will be in there against a...

James Corden hosted Josh Groban on “The Late Late Show” Monday for a jam session featuring some of your favorite public domain songs. Part of the “James Corden and Friends Public Domain Song Concert-Palooza,” Corden and Groban opened with “Bah Bah Black Sheep,” which Groban said is his favorite song about wool. The duo also tackled “The Muffin Man,” but Groban seemed to get more and more agitated with each new public domain song. He had a brief respite when he tried to sing the opening of Neil Young’s “Old Man,” but Corden jumped in to stop him. Also Read: Josh Groban to.

Agastya Films’ black comedy thriller Baa Baaa Black Sheep starring Manish Paul has just completed its first shoot schedule. The slickly-shot entertainer – directed by Vishwas Paandya and produced by Anand Swarup Agarwal & Krishna Datla – revolves around Baba (Manish Paul), who is initiated into his family business when he turns 25 by his father (played by Anupam Kher). But a professional revelation turns Baba’s personal life upside down and how he comes of age juggling his love life with his professional one, forms the crux of this comic thriller.
Laced with rather highly-stylish action sequences, the film also stars versatile veterans Anupam Kher and Annu Kapoor in very interesting roles.
Director Vishwas Paandya reveals that they will commence the second 40-day schedule in Goa in February next year. He says, “The film is based in Goa and will see Manish in a more subtle avatar, yet in perfect sync with the comic-timing.

As 2016 approaches, Harry Potter fans have much to anticipate, with the arrival of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, not to mention the sequel stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Our appetite for all things set in J.K. Rowling.s magical universe is not likely to be satiated anytime soon, which is why we came up with six more prequel story ideas that we think would work well for the big screen. The Marauders At Hogwarts Four words: Moony. Wormtail. Padfoot. Prongs. In other words, a werewolf, an eventual betrayer, a Black sheep, and the eventual father of Harry Potter. Need we say more? If we do need to, we.ll drop Lily Potter and Severus Snape.s names onto the list. This is likely to be one of the most desired untold stories among Harry Potter fans, as the foursome.s adventures were occasionally teased ...

How do you become a seven-time Emmy-winning actress? You've got to do dramatic exercises! Back when Allison Janney was just another drama student in New York, she would do dramatic monologues of nursery rhymes, like "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" as a drug dealer. Now she likes to do the same thing with lyrics from 1970s rock ballads. We can see the drama geeks wandering Washington Square Park reciting "Rub-a-dub-dub" as a painful coming-out story now.

it is difficult to be entirely unknown in the modern world. The advent of the internet has meant that any individual thrust into the public eye becomes not just the focus of scrutiny in the present, but a person’s entire history seems to get rustled up in the blink of an eye. This is particularly true in the insular world of professional wrestling, where the one thing we seem to enjoy more than the show itself is the dirt behind it.
Braun Strowman made his WWE debut on August 24th, aligning with the Wyatt Family in their struggles against Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. He was introduced as Sister Abigail’s ‘Black Sheep’, a monster of man who towered over Reigns and Ambrose, dispatching them seemingly with ease with a standing triangle choke and an over-the-shoulder facebuster type move.

Back in 1993, two low-budget mockumentary-style comedies based on Gangsta Rap were released. The better of the two is Rusty Cundieff’s Canadian indie gem Fear of a Black Hat, chronicling the rise and fall of Nwh, a not particularly talented but always controversial hip-hop group. The second was CB4, about the rise to fame of Mc Gusto, Stab Master Arson, and Dead Mike, members of the rap group Cell Block 4. The similarities between the two are uncanny, so much so that one would think someone got their greedy hands on the other script and decided to shamefully steal the idea.
Written by music critic Nelson George and Saturday Night Live’s Chris Rock (who also plays the lead role of Albert, a k a Mc Gusto), this spoof on gangsta rap targets controversial rap groups (specifically N.W.A.) and deliberately provocative,...

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask offered many young Nintendo fans their first true horror experience. It may seem obvious that a My Little Pony movie is being made. The magically friendly horses are very popular and, more importantly, are a part of the Hasbro family of toys. The company has been busy turning as many of their products into movies as they can, such as Transformers, G.I. Joe, Battleship and this month’s Ouija. There’s also Jem and the Holograms due next year and maybe eventually we’ll see the promised features based on Monopoly, Candy Land, Hungry Hungry Hippos and Tonka trucks. My Little Pony will be an animated feature, which means it will likely just be a feature-length edition of the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. All the other properties are adaptations of some other medium or directly based off the toys and games. Hippos...

Young Swiss filmmakers are calling for greater diversity in Swiss fiction production and the introduction of a new funding instrument to support up-and-coming directors.
Gathered together as the Swiss Fiction Movement (Sfm), the film-makers are holding their first public debate to air their grievances and proposals on the second day (Aug 7) of this year’s Locarno Film Festival.
In a paper described in advance as the Locarno Manifesto, the Sfm’s founders argue that the Swiss national funding system is currently concentrated on the support of large productions and that small productions “can only be made outside of the official funding landscape and with the aid of alternative financing”.
The examples of the UK’s Microwave scheme or Germany’s Das kleine Fernsehspiel are cited as successful initiatives in other countries which have been supporting and producing low-budget productions for many years.

They teamed up for the 2012 political comedy The Campaign. Now Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are reuniting for an outrageous comedy that is based on true events, and is decidedly stranger than fiction. The Wrap reports Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis will headline an upcoming comedy from director Richard Linklater, best-known for his Before Trilogy: Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight. Called Larry's Kidney, Linklater's latest will focus on the true but wild story of Daniel Asa Rose, a writer and newspaper editor pulled into a world of espionage, underground crime, and medical tourism when his estranged cousin asks him to help save his life. Larry's Kidney will be based on Rose's heralded comedic memoir, which boasts a mouthful of a title: Larry's Kidney: Being the True Story of How I Found Myself in China with My Black Sheep Cousin and His Mail-Order Bride, Skirting the Law to Get...

Once presidential rivals in the middling political comedy The Campaign, funnymen Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis are set to team up on a film that could provide some of the comic gold missing from their 2012 film. The actors will head to China in Larry’s Kidney, based on a bizarre memoir from author Daniel Asa Rose that could just be outlandish enough to work with both Ferrell and Galifianakis’ brazen comic sensibilities. Better yet, director Richard Linklater is slated to helm. The last time Linklater made a dark comedy based on true events, we got the sublime Bernie, one of his most under-appreciated gems.
The book Larry’s Kidney has the verbose subtitle, Being the True Story of How I Found Myself in China with My Black Sheep Cousin and His Mail-Order Bride, Skirting the Law to Get Him a Transplant–and Save His Life. I doubt Linklater’s film...

Following yesterday's news that a documentary about the career of Richard Linklater was in the works, the filmmaker has a new project of his own on the way The Wrap has word that Linklater, who sees his coming-of-age epic Boyhood arrive this summer, will direct a reteaming of The Campaign stars Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in an adaptation of Larry's Kidney, a humorous memoir by Daniel Asa Rose. We get an idea of the story with the full title: True Story of How I Found Myself in China with My Black Sheep Cousin & His Mail-Order Bride, Skirting the Law to Get Him a Transplant--and Save His Life. This sounds like the kind of darker, but still hilarious comedy that Linklater delivered in Bernie, where Jack Black gave an award worthy performance in a very competitive year. You couldn't ask for two better stars to bring this story to life...

Having grown up in the '80s, I hold a special place in my heart for creature features. Gremlins was a gateway drug to Critters and Ghoulies. I've chased down titles like Arachnophobia, Jack Frost, Black Sheep and Piranha Part Two: The Spawning, all for the practical effects and puppets that were both creepy and funny. So, I was pretty stoked for Zombeavers to hit the Tribeca Film Festival with its promise of blood-drenched puppets and outrageousness. But there's something crucial missing here that keeps it from being as fun as the titles that served as the centerpieces to slumber parties and Diy midnight movie marathons. The directorial debut of Crank Yankers's writer Jordan Rubin, Zombeavers begins in the familiar setting of a rural cabin that sits beside a seemingly placid lake. This is the isolated vacation spot where college co-eds Mary (Rachel Melvin), Zoe (Cortney Palm) and Jenn...

The New Zealand Film Commission is getting out of the business of selling feature films and shorts internationally as part of a wide revamp of the agency.s structure and mission.
The Nzfc will seek to place the new and recent films it represents with sales agents and is hiring a consultant with sales experience to manage the transition. That process will start on April 1.
The organisation, which has 129 films under its care, will continue to handle sales of at least some of the older titles. The Commission has sold the films it produced or invested in for more than 40 years, including An Angel at My Table, Bad Taste, Vigil, Once Were Warriors, Sleeping Dogs, Smash Palace, The Navigator, The World's Fastest Indian and, more recently, Black Sheep, Eagle vs Shark, Two Little Boys and Fresh Meat.

Parenthood, Season 5, Episode 15, “Just Like at Home”
Written by Ian Deichtman & Kristin Rusk Robinson
Directed by Allison Liddi-Brown
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Est on NBC
This week, on Parenthood: Sydney and Victor spend their first weekend away, Drew talks to Amy, and siblings are the best
Parenthood has struggled this season with a handful of storylines, most notably the Julia and Joel friction and eventual trial separation. While this arc has felt contrived and frustratingly unexplored, from Joel’s perspective at the very least, the fallout from his decision two episodes ago has been fantastic, both in concept and execution. This week, Sydney and Victor head to Joel’s new apartment for their first weekend away from home, leaving Julia alone with her thoughts (and Orange is the New Black), and watching each set of characters react to this, and the way writers Ian Deichtman and Kristin Rusk Robinson...

I had to think twice before deciding if it was worth my time to post this trailer. Low budget movies often rely on gimmicks or strange hooks to get people interested. Often these movies are downright terrible, but sometimes – as with the case of Black Sheep (a movie about killer sheep) – they can be surprisingly good. News out of Berlin brings us this trailer from Jordan Rubin’s comedic horror, Zombeavers, which looks like it’s aspiring to be the next Sharknado. Zombeavers tells the story of a group of college kids staying at a riverside cabin who are menaced by a swarm of deadly zombie beavers. A weekend of sex and debauchery soon turns gruesome as the beavers close in on the kids. Riding the line between scary, sexy and funny, the kids are soon fighting for their lives in a desperate attempt to fend off the hoard of...

Ride Along
Directed by: Tim Story
Cast: Ice Cube, Kevin Hart, Tika Sumpter
Running Time: 1 hr 40 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: January 17, 2014
Plot: Ben (Hart) wants to impress his cop brother-in-law James (Cube), and joins him on a ride along of Atlanta.
Who’S It For? If you worship Ice Cube, I don’t understand you. Hart is the reason to bother.
Overall
There is one reason to sit through Ride Along. First, let’s get to the reasons not to watch this film in the theater. The direction of the film is uninspired, and it feels as generic as the director’s name (Tim Story). You will see most of the bad guys and the basic story points coming well before they happen. If, for some reason you don’t, no worries. The script over-explains everything. That’s right, almost no thinking necessary! The attempted link between being a...
