And, unlike most cabin-in-the-woods features, this one even dares to venture beyond its central location, actually letting its characters leave for home – a place few of the subgenre have ever dared to go (no, Army of Darkness doesn’t count). Holy cats! Ol’ Jeremy Berg, the creator of s–t hot new Sci-Fi thriller The Device (a review of which is comin’ soon to this very website, so begin tremblin’ in anticipation right now!) just stumbled on in to the Crypt o’ Xiii!
Famous Monsters. Ya took the brainy approach on The Device, while most flicks in the alien abduction vein tend to go a bit “o’er tha top”, so to speak. Did this cause you any static?
Jeremy Berg. I really wanted to tell a story that was driven by the characters. The genesis of the idea was a simple concept: two sisters find an object in the woods that may or may not be of earthly origin. It was very simple but had a lot of potential. From there, we could explore how this object changes the characters and their relationships with one another.

If anything can really mess with your head it’s family. In horror movies this is a trope used a lot, the return to the family home to find the truth from the past, which is always a good place to start for a film. An example of a film that uses this is The Invoking.

There are so many sub-genres in horror. The vampire movie, zombie apocalypses, torture porn. But there's nothing more classic and purely fright-inducing than the things that go bump in the night. To celebrate this week's release of The Invoking, we bring you our Top 13 Favorite Haunted House Movies.
Is anything creepier than when your own house turns against you? You can (theoretically) get away from zombies, vamps, slashers and werewolves. But when your own home sweet home is the enemy… it's tough to recover from that.
We have some great Honorable Mentions to start off with. Fantastic director James Wan really seems to have a knack for the haunted house movie as he has one entry on the list itself and also gets a nod for Insidious, a creative look at the inner, an outer, workings of a haunted house. A Haunting in Connecticut was impressive as, in addition to the actual haunting going on,...

We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes release details for A Resurrection, the first teaser trailer for Ten, a review of Smiley, and much more:
First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...
