On Wednesday, Apple TV+ announced the premiere date and shared a first-look photo from “Lady in the Lake,” a seven-episode limited drama series starring and executive produced by Academy Award winner Natalie Portman the streamer describes as “a feverish noir thriller and an unexpected tale of the price women pay for their dreams.”
The series is based on a 2019 novel by bestselling mystery author Laura Lippman. It’s set in late-1960s Baltimore and follows two women from different communities who become linked by a missing girl.
Portman plays Maddie Schwartz, a Jewish housewife seeking to shed a secret past and reinvent herself as an investigative journalist. Moses Ingram (Emmy nominee for “The Queen’s Gambit”) is Cleo Johnson, a mother navigating the political underbelly of Black Baltimore while struggling to provide for her family.
In Maddie’s timeline, Cleo is deceased, and Maddie becomes obsessed with untangling the strange circumstances of her death.

The cast of Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Black Bag expands today with Regé-Jean Page joining Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. Soderbergh directs from a script by David Koepp, with Caset Silver and Greg Jacobs producing. Focus Features is setting up Black Bag, with filming happening in London. Plot details remain a mystery. However, the film’s story is a spy thriller unfolding in the United Kingdom.
As The Hollywood Reporter pointed out in January, Soderbergh and Blanchett previously worked together on his 2006 noir thriller The Good German. Blanchett played a part in the film Ocean’s 8, as part of Soderbergh’s Ocean’s 11 franchise. Soderbergh produced Ocean’s 8 but didn’t direct that one. He and Fassbender previously worked together on his 2011 action thriller Haywire. And in addition to collaborating on Presence, Soderbergh and Koepp also worked together on the 2022 thriller Kimi.

Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.
According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.
Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for all episodes of “Swarm” on Amazon Prime Video.
Rumors of a Donald Glover project about a “Beyoncé-like figure” have been swirling in Hollywood for at least two years. And while no one involved will say Knowles’ name — though Glover has called out the Beyhive and co-creator and showrunner Janine Nabers has spoken about “a certain pop star from Houston” — that series is finally here.
“Swarm” stars Dominique Fishback as Dre, an emotionally stunted superfan of a singer named Ni’Jah (Nirine S. Brown), who is a bit unhealthily obsessed with her own sister, Marissa (Chloe Bailey). When a fight between the sisters separates them for a night, Dre goes out to celebrate Ni’Jah’s surprise album drop while Marissa discovers that she’s being cheated on by her boyfriend, Khalid (Damson Idris). Unable to reach Dre for support, she dies by suicide.

There is nothing on television quite like Swarm. This ultraviolent fever dream of a series, from the Atlanta team of Donald Glover and Janine Nabers, tells the tale of a tormented young Black woman, Dre (Dominique Fishback, outstanding), who idolizes Ni’Jah, the world’s biggest pop star — or at least the one with the most militant fanbase, who call themselves the Swarm and drown out any and all online detractors with bee emojis. If this all sounds familiar, it should: the series is directly inspired by Beyoncé and her Beyhive,...

Billie Eilish is creepier than ever in a new teaser of her acting debut in Donald Glover’s upcoming Prime Video series, Swarm, premiering this Friday, March 17th.
In a clip that Eilish shared on Instagram, the pop superstar’s character seems to be interrogating the show’s protagonist Dre (Dominique Fishback). During the course of questioning Dre, Eilish finds out she had a vision of red “milk” spilled on the carpet. Upon receiving confirmation that Dre “hurt someone,” Eilish says, “Very good.” A separate teaser shared by Prime Video shows Eilish asking Dre (who apparently was once named Kayla) to name something she regrets.
Watch both teasers below.
Swarm, which is set between 2016 and 2018, centers around Dre, who plays an obsessed fan of a fictional Beyoncé-based pop star. It was co-created and executive produced by Atlanta writer-producer Janine Nabers and Donald Glover, the latter of whom directed the pilot.

Swarm, Prime Video’s new limited series from Donald Glover (in his first post-Atlanta project) and Janine Nabers (another Atlanta alum, as well as a writer on Watchmen), stars Dominique Fishback as Dre, a young woman from Houston whose entire life revolves around her fandom of pop icon Ni’Jah. In the first episode, Khalid (Damson Idris), the boyfriend of her sister Marissa (Chlöe Bailey), wonders why Dre is obsessed with someone who, deep down, is just a regular person like everybody else.
“She is not like everybody else,” an indignant Dre replies.

Prime Video’s “Swarm” is a critique of rabid fandom and other out-of-control aspects of our culture from series creators who, in many ways, show full command of their medium.
Nominally a commentary on the godlike qualities fans ascribe to Beyoncé, the new limited series from Donald Glover and fellow “Atlanta” writer and producer Janine Nabers expands into a frequently fascinating exploration of obsessions ranging from food to cults to true crime.
Glover and showrunner Nabers deftly shift genre and tone, seamlessly moving from psychological thriller to true horror to slapstick comedy as Dre — the least hinged member of the Beyhive-esque Ni’Jah fandom known as the Swarm, played by the excellent Dominique Fishback (HBO’s “The Deuce”) — wreaks havoc across the country.

Prime Video’s Swarm kicked off the South by Southwest Film & Television Festival on Friday night with its world premiere – a two-episode screening that left audiences gasping and applauding.

The pantheon of art about parasocial relationships is filled with hits, from Martin Scorcese’s “The King of Comedy” to Stephen King’s “Misery” to Eminem’s iconic hit “Stan,” which inadvertently created a whole new term for obsessive fans. Now, Donald Glover is making his own contribution to that canon with “Swarm,” a horror comedy about the scary world of pop music fandom. The full-length trailer for the upcoming Prime Video series has been released by Amazon.
“Swarm” stars Dominque Fishback, best known for her role in “Judas and the Black Messiah,” as Dre, a young woman who runs a stan account for the world’s biggest pop star, who — similar to Beyoncé’s Beyhive — has a fanbase known as “The Swarm.” Set in between 2016 and 2018, the show sees Dre, lonely and lost, embark on a cross-country trip that causes her to slowly lose her sanity and engage in multiple bloody murders.

When the teaser trailer for Swarm dropped earlier this month, I had many questions.
The initial footage took a less is more approach to leave potential viewers to fill in the blanks about the concept.
With the debut of the full-length trailer, it's clear Swarm is on a mission to showcase the dark side of stan culture.

FX is stepping into the standup comedy ring, with comedy specials from Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers to premiere exclusively on Hulu on Sept. 15, the network announced.
“Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” serves as the comedian’s first live solo standup special. Set in an intimate space, the “A League of Their Own” star takes on not only the audience, but also a mirrored reflection of herself in her absurdist show. As she challenges the crowd’s expectations of her comedy, Berlant analyzes her own need to perform, as well as her connection to the room.
Bo Burnham directed the special, which was filmed in 2019. He’s also attached as an executive producer alongside recent Emmy winner Jerrod Carmichael (“Rothaniel”), Chris Storer (“The Bear”) and Jeff Tomsic. “Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” is produced by Rotten Science.

The Movies: "No Sudden Move" and "Kimi"
Where You Can Stream Them: HBO Max
The Pitch: In "No Sudden Move," director Steven Soderbergh returns to the heist genre with an all-star cast and a home invasion gone wrong in '50s Detroit. In "Kimi," Soderbergh marries technology fears with a familiar scenario centered on a homebound "voice stream interpreter" (Zoë Kravitz) who overhears something she shouldn't have.
Why They're Essential Viewing: After retiring and un-retiring, there were a few years there where Soderbergh was focused more on TV projects like his Cinemax series "The Knick." It's been a while since we saw a movie of his enjoy a theatrical run -- thanks in part, perhaps, to the pandemic he predicted with his 2011 thriller "Contagion.

The TV academy has honored voice-only performances since 1992, when six cast members from “The Simpsons” collectively became the first actors to receive Emmys for such work. The Best Voice-Over Performance category became an official non-juried one in 2009 and was then split into two categories in 2014: Best Character Voice-Over and Best Narrator. Harry Shearer (“The Simpsons”) made history as the former category’s first champion, having been nominated once before for the same series.
The 2022 Best Character Voice-Over ballot list below consists of a whopping 222 performances. Seeking a third consecutive victory is Maya Rudolph, who plays Connie the Hormone Monstress on “Big Mouth.” Also in the mix are former winners Shearer, Hank Azaria (“The Simpsons”), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), and Seth MacFarlane (“Family Guy”).

HBO released the trailer for its upcoming limited series “Irma Vep,” from writer-director Olivier Assayas, based on his 1996 film of the same name. Starring Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander (“Ex Machina”) and produced in partnership with A24, the series premieres June 6 on HBO and HBO Max.
