"Gossip Girl" tells the story of a bunch of wealthy Upper East Siders (and a few Brooklynites) as they deal with drama, romance, and chaos in the Big Apple. The show, which ran from 2007 to 2012, also happened to make much of its young cast into huge stars. Blake Lively, of course, starred as Serena van der Woodsen on "Gossip Girl" and has since gone on to be a prominent A-lister. Penn Badgley, who played the seemingly innocuous Dan Humphrey, now stars as another seemingly harmless (but very murderous) character on the hit show "You." Meanwhile, Taylor Momsen, who played Dan's little sister Jenny Humphrey, transitioned from television into a successful music career after leaving "Gossip Girl"; she currently fronts the band The Pretty Reckless.

Break out your headbands, Upper East Siders and Jenny Humphrey stans. Taylor Momsen reunited with “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley for the first time since the 2012 series finale of The CW teen drama, appearing on the Sept. 6 episode of “Podcrushed,” Badgley’s SiriusXM podcast with Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari.
During the hour-long episode, the pair reminisced about their time on “Gossip Girl” together; Badgley portrayed Dan Humphrey, while Momsen played his little sister, Jenny, for four seasons. You is one of the most popular shows on Netflix — and for good reason. Penn Badgley thoroughly inhabits the role of Joe Goldberg, a serial killer who develops deep obsessions with a series of different people. The show debuted on Lifetime before switching over to Netflix, and these days, You is one of the hottest programs in rotation, with an all-new season now streaming. However, long before Badgley was impressing people with his work as a creepy serial killer, he was breaking hearts as the character of Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl. In a recent interview with Elle, Badgley opened up about both of his iconic characters, admitting that he believes Dan Humphrey and Joe Goldberg would “hate” each other.

You is a Netflix series created by Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble starring Penn Badgley.
This fourth season of You is showing itself to be a completely scathing, sarcastic and lethal portrait of the (high) London society in this highly entertaining plot about a stalker… and it is highly seductive.
A very different series that has managed, with intelligence and a great sense of literary irony, to give a new twist to the topic and a new slant about the established. It knows how to turn around what, supposedly, has upended the social game.
A twisted literary, cinematographic and televisual game that becomes more and more addictive as it evolves.

Penn Badgley may be most famous for playing some very shady TV characters - namely "Gossip Girl"'s Dan Humphrey and "You"'s Joe Goldberg - but in real life, he seems to be very happily married. Over the years, Badgley, 36, hasn't had too many relationships in the public eye, but he did date a few famous stars before settling down with his wife, Domino Kirke.
Badgley and Kirke welcomed their first child together in September 2020, an experience Badgley once said made playing Joe on "You" more difficult because of how happy he felt in real life. "The funny thing is I was curious what my new fatherhood, how that would influence my experience with Joe and acting with him, and sometimes it was almost not helpful because I was having such light and joyful experience - still am - and Joe is so petrified," he said in a 2021 interview with Access.

Penn Badgley almost broke bad.
The “You” star admitted that the role of Jesse Pinkman on “Breaking Bad” is the ultimate “one that got away” in terms of roles.

“If you want an interesting story, Penn screen-tested for Jesse. He didn’t even test for ‘Gossip Girl’; they offered it to him — but I remember him telling me he screen-tested for Jesse,” Crawford told The Independent.

“If you want an interesting story, Penn screen-tested for Jesse. He didn’t even test for ‘Gossip Girl’; they offered it to him — but I remember him telling me he screen-tested for Jesse,” Crawford told The Independent.

Los Angeles, Feb 16 (Ians) Penn Badgley believes Blake Lively ‘saved’ him from self-destruction.
The 36-year-old actor, who starred alongside Blake in the TV drama ‘Gossip Girl’ between 2007 and 2012, admitted that their relationship helped him to avoid a “dark undercurrent” that was developing in his life, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Penn, who dated Blake between 2007 and 2010, explained, “To be honest, I never struggled with substance. Blake didn’t drink, and I think our relationship in some ways saved me from forcing myself to go down that road.”
Despite this, Penn admits to paying a heavy price for fame and success. The actor recalled feeling “quite unhappy” during his 20s.
He told Variety magazine, “Like anybody who experiences some degree of fame and wealth, I was presented with the universal truth that not only does it ot make your life better or easier, it actually can greatly complicate things, and make you quite unhappy.

Penn Badgley discusses experiencing “Gossip Girl” fame and his three-year relationship with co-star Blake Lively in a new interview with Variety.
The actor played Dan Humphrey in the show alongside his on and off screen lover Lively, who starred as Serena van der Woodsen.
He insists of the attention the cast got at the time, “Beyond our relationship, I don’t think anybody was going to be interested in me publicly.”
The pair started dating in 2007. The series ran from 2007-2012.
Badgley says of realizing his life had changed after the series aired, “It was a little bit night and day. I think the date was Sept. 19, 2007.”
He admits that he spent years of the show not wanting to be in television.
Badgley recalls, “I was biding time a lot with Dan — I was not invested. And I’m not saying it’s a good thing! I’m saying it’s just what it was.

Penn Badgley has been in the headlines recently, and not only because Part 1 of the fourth season of “You” dropped on Feb. 9: On his podcast “Podcrushed” last week, Badgley talked about his strong dislike of filming intimate scenes — and the internet exploded with thoughts about his remarks. He also said that he’d shared his feelings with Sera Gamble, the “You” showrunner, ahead of the season. In turn, he said, Gamble had a “really positive response and they came back with a phenomenal reduction” for Season 4.
In two wide-ranging interviews for this week’s Variety cover story, which will be released on Feb. 15, Badgley spoke expansively on the subject. In our story, Badgley details how the number of sex scenes he knew he’d have to do for “You” had been a major factor in 2017 in him not wanting to play the role of serial killer/love addict Joe Goldberg.

Penn Badgley plays the manipulative charmer Joe Goldberg in the hit Netflix series You, which means many relationships with women and lots and lots of sex scenes. But the actor has said ‘No more!’ Speaking on a recent episode of his Podcrushed podcast, the actor explained how he asked the show’s creator, Sera Gamble, if he could do fewer intimacy scenes in the fourth season. And, to his surprise, Gamble said yes. “I asked Sera Gamble, can I just do no more intimacy scenes,” he told his co-host Nava Kaveli. “This is actually a decision I made before I took the show. I don’t think I have ever mentioned it publicly. One of the main things was, do I want to put myself back on a career path where I’m always playing the romantic lead?” Before his lead role in You, Badgley was best known for playing...

Actor and internet darling Penn Badgley wants to set the record straight: He’s not a nepo baby — but he is a daddy.
While he’s perhaps best known for his role of Dan Humphrey in the Og Gossip Girl, life has changed a lot since Badgley last put on a prep school costume. He’s older, he’s married, and in 2020, he became a dad of two. But in Season Four of You, Badgley returns to his preppy roots, dawning several blazers (and a new beard) as serial killer Joe Goldberg.

With the fourth season of Netflix’s “You” right around the corner, the hit Netflix thriller covers new ground — literally — as Penn Badgely’s character, murderous stalker Joe Goldberg, flees the scene of the previous season’s crimes and hides out in London.
Living under a new identity, Joe has assumed the identity of literature professor Jonathan Moore; joining the cast is British actress Amy-Leigh Hickman as Nadia, a student who captures Joe’s attention.

The original Gossip Girl TV series remains one of the best teen drama shows of all time. The show made stars out of young performers like Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, Chace Crawford, and Leighton Meester, and captivated the imaginations of viewers all around the world. Gossip Girl ran on TV for six seasons before going off the air in December 2012. While many fans praised the series in general, the finale caused a great deal of discussion and controversy within the fan base — especially after the big reveal. As show creators have since revealed, however, the original plan was never to make Dan the infamous “Gossip Girl” at all.

Tragedy has struck the Upper East Side: our days of listening to Kristen Bell bully a bunch of ridiculously wealthy teenagers have (once again) come to an end. I do hope you've been practicing your shocked Pikachu face, because here comes more cancellation news out of Warner Bros. Discovery: per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max has officially canceled the "Gossip Girl" revival after two seasons.
From original "Gossip Girl" creators Josh Safran and Stephanie Savage, the sequel series introduced a new generation of drama-prone Manhattanites who too often find themselves entangled in all sorts of elicit affairs and tawdry scandals. It would be one thing if they could conduct their chaos in peace — but alas, the rumor-spreading Gossip Girl has returned! Instead of lonely boy Dan Humphrey, the culprit is a set of teachers who hope to curb their students' bad behavior by airing their dirty laundry in public.

Three words, twenty letters: Nate Archibald forever. Chace, who played Golden Boy Nate Archibald on the series, said that the actors' lives completely changed while filming. And when the show came to a close back in 2012, it took a while to get readjusted to their new reality. Looks like Season 2 of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” reboot is about to get a whole lot messier.
On Wednesday, the series’ social media accounts shared a grainy video of a brunette woman sitting in an empty theater, clapping at whatever (or whomever) is on stage.
“It only takes one spark to start a fire,” the video teases. In the caption, the message continues: “And I have a feeling that this city is about to burn.”

While it’s not totally clear who is in the video, it sure does look like Michelle Trachtenberg — which would mean that Georgina Sparks is returning to New York City. Showrunner Joshua Safran gave another hint about the mystery person’s identity on Twitter when asked who the messiest character in Season 2 will be.

Do you find yourself lusting more over Joe Goldberg than Dan Humphrey? Well, You and Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley is setting the record straight on why that may be the case, and it's sadly so cliché! In an interview with SiriusXM's Jess Cagle on Tuesday, Badgley explained that his Gossip Girl character became "increasingly irrelevant" to fans of the teen drama because they preferred to root for morally corrupt characters like Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) over "the nice guy." Meanwhile, on You, Joe is an obvious bad guy, and television fans are "much more accustomed to watching a show about a murder and being like, 'Woo, I love that guy'" these days. *Sigh* The bad-boy trope wins every time. Watch Badgley's full interview ahead of the Oct. 15 premiere of season three of You.

Gossip Girl, you know you love us. Week after week, we've been tuning into the drama of HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot, but we never expected to end up on the radar of the actual Upper East Siders. In the latest episode, "Hope Sinks," which doubles as the Halloween episode, Popsugar gets a very special mention.
It all goes down when the students of Constance Billard attend an extravagant Halloween bash in costume. In an attempt to win the costume contest, Julien and Zoya plan the perfect sisters costume as they go as Beyoncé and Solange at the 2014 Met Gala. However, their plans are quickly thwarted when they realize that two of the popular girls from a rival school, Pippa and Bianca, have leaked their costumes in an attempt to put the spotlight on their own costumes as Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen. Talk about meta!

Hey, Upper East Siders. “Gossip Girl” is back, and though the HBO Max reboot is clearly making it a point to show how this world has changed since the original CW series, there are certainly some distinct similarities. In fact, the reboot has already made some direct nods to its predecessor.
To recap, here’s what things are like for Manhattan’s elite in 2021. This “Gossip Girl” focuses on teens Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander), Zoya Lott (Whitney Peak), Obie Bergmann IV (Eli Brown), Aki Menzies (Evan Mock), Audrey Hope (Emily Alyn Lynd), Max Wolfe (Thomas Doherty), Luna La (Zion Moreno) and Monet de Haan (Savannah Smith). They’re basically all influencers or socialites, and they spare Gossip Girl little more than snide comments, making fun of how things worked in the early 2000s.
Like in the original “Gossip Girl,” they attend Constance Billard/St. Jude’s, the prep school where the original series was set.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Thursday’s new episode of HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl.”)
Upper East Siders who thought that last week’s intro of a pre-teen Milo Sparks was the best that HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” could do in the way of references to the Og series are going to have their tights knocked off by the quintet of cameos on Thursday’s episode.
That’s mainly because one of them is the actual return of fan-favorite character Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang), and the other four appearances come via incredibly meta fabrications of The CW series’ leading couples: Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) and Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley).

Georgina Sparks is back…sort of. HBO Max's Gossip Girl surprised fans with its latest episode by bringing back a storyline from the Og series. As fans may recall, Georgina (Michelle Trachtenberg) gives birth to a son named Milo in season four. While she initially tells Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) he's the father, she later reveals that Milo is actually the son of a Russian man named Serge, whom she'd met on a plane. Well, Milo is now 10 years old, and fans are getting to meet him all over again. In the revival's fourth episode, titled "Fire Walks With Z," Milo (Azhy Robertson) sneaks up on Zoya (Whitney Peak) while she's sitting on the steps of New York's...

The Gossip Girl reboot certainly knows how to bring the drama, and episode four just referenced one of the most chaotic characters from the original show's run. When Zoya needs help taking down Julien (believing Julien is out to destroy her life), she turns to 10-year-old Milo Sparks. If that name sounds familiar, that's because Milo's mother is none other than original schemer Georgina Sparks, and it looks like he's learned from the best when it comes to sabotage.
Milo actually plays a pivotal role during season four of the original Gossip Girl. Georgina convinces Dan Humphrey that he's Milo's father, even getting him to sign the birth certificate. Later on, it's revealed that Dan couldn't be Milo's father and his biological dad is a Russian named Serge. The 2021 iteration of the show even gives a clever nod to the drama, with Milo telling Zoya that his real last name is Ivanov.
