More than 30 years after enduring “16 Candles,” Molly Ringwald is heading back to the school dance, and “Riverdale” couldn’t be happier.
The former teen icon, known for her membership in the ‘80s Brat Pack and her John Hughes pedigree, guest stars on Thursday’s “Riverdale” as Archie’s mom Mary. She and her estranged husband Fred (Luke Perry) will be back together temporarily to see their son perform at the high school dance. While the casting was a natural fit because of Ringwald’s red hair, her teen star cred also helped. Both “Riverdale” and “13 Reasons Why” are two teen-centric shows that have been bringing back former teen stars to play the older generation, and reaping the benefits.

Charlie Sheen is getting in trouble with the law again.
The former Two and a Half Men star will pay homage to his Ferris Bueller’s Day Off character during The Goldbergs‘ upcoming tribute episode to the 1986 film, People reports.
In the John Hughes classic, Sheen appeared as “Boy in the Police Station,” who was told by Bueller’s sister (played by Jennifer Grey) to “blow [himself].”
On the ABC comedy, it will be Barry’s sis, Erica, who runs into Sheen’s character after ratting out her brother for faking being sick in an attempt to create his own Bueller-esque day off.

Recorded on a cold Thanksgiving evening, Randy and Sean sit down for a special, Turkey Day-themed episode of the podcast, centered around a discussion of John Hughes’s 1987 classic (well, borderline classic) Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. But that’s not all that’s on their plate (pardon the terrible pun): they also talk all sorts of Thanksgiving-themed television, from Bob’s Burgers and New Girl, to Friends, Cheers, Gilmore Girls - and of course, the masterpiece known as The O.C. Finally, the guys get a little deep and talk about what Thanksgiving means to them – in short, a perfect podcast to listen to while recovering from the holiday and the nonsense of Black Friday ’round the fire.

Taylor Swift may be one of the last remaining pop artists on the planet to be able to sell a million albums in one week in the United States. The record industry has been hemorrhaging since the early aughts, but Swift has been adaptable, to say the least. She's a hustler, keeping her spirits and sounds current with the room temperature. She started in 2006 with country-core self-titled set, then worked her ass off through the gazillion-selling "Fearless," the Grammys on "Speak Now," the massive crossover of hits like "I Knew You Were Trouble" and novelty "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" off of "Red." The 24-year-old is firmly pop now for "1989," which will breed more certifiable radio staples than just "Shake It Off." "Blank Space" is apparently primed to be the official second single and it is an experiment to say the least (read the track-by-track below). "Welcome to New York" has legs because,...

A teen comedy alive with the spirit of John Hughes, Fun Size is one of the funniest and most surprisingly satisfying films I.ve seen this year. Imagine if Hughes had directed Superbad and you might get a decent approximation of the appeal and high-spirit of Fun Size. Advertised as a .tween. comedy and starring actors from Nickelodeon and other TV shows, this PG-13 film is good for all ages and like Hughes. films, it.s a great movie not just for those who are teenagers but also for those who remember what it was like to be one.
Fun Size centers on bright high school senior Wren (Victoria Justice), who has recently lost her father. She is eager to distance herself from her mother Joy (Chelsea Handler) and plump annoying little brother Albert by ditching Cleveland and heading off to college in New York. Joy insists that she watch...

Renowned composer, Alan Menken, the Oscar-winning musical mastermind behind some of Disney’s biggest animated musical hits, such as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘The Little Mermaid,’ is at work on a third musical series for ABC. We reported last week that Bob Kushell and Robert Horn were developing two very different series for the network.
According to Deadline Hollywood, Menken is teaming with Oscar-nominated lyricist David Zippel and comedy writer Marco Pennette for the new project, described as a mix between ‘Rent’ and ‘St. Elmo’s Fire.’ Sweet, a John Hughes-inspired musical, something I have always wanted to see. The project could feature two or three original songs per episode. It’s set to follow a young musician who lives with other artists as the try to make it big.
The other two projects that ABC is developing are in the same vein. One is a half hour comedy from Horn,...
