Animation feature “Bombay Rose” is the first film to flow from a new partnership between the U.K.’s Goldfinch Entertainment and India’s Cinestaan Film Co.
“Bombay Rose” is directed by Gitanjali Rao and is inspired by the romance of Bollywood. While there are multiple human stories, arguably the biggest star is the seedy underbelly of Mumbai.
The film was previously greenlit by Cinestaan and France’s Les Films d’Ici. Goldfinch is to invest in the production and provide the music through Goldfinch Music. Lilian Kibedi’s new production and finance company, Akoberwa Films, also joins the picture as another financing partner.
Cinestaan, which has bases in Mumbai, London and Los Angeles, bills itself as India’s largest independent producer. It has two production pipelines, one focusing on the Indian domestic and diaspora audiences, the other for international audiences. It’s Kyle’s stag night. He’s with his best friend and best man Jarvis. Large amounts of alcohol are consumed. What could possibly go wrong? After a trip to a brothel… sorry, “Massage parlour”, Kyle finds himself in an awkward situation. He has contracted chlamydia from one of the employees of the fine establishment and now has to not have sex with his fiancée for three months to prevent any possibility of it spreading or worse, her finding out what he has done.
Almost Married is a British romantic comedy starring Philip McGinley as the lead man, Kyle. Filled with crude ‘lad’ humour, Kyle and Jarvis stumble from drunken night to drunken night as they try many different solutions to avoid revealing Kyle’s secret. This includes long fishing trips and “damaging” body parts (Yes,...

★☆☆☆☆Just the kind of dross that constitutes a stunning indictment of the British film industry, Ben Cookson's Almost Married (2014) is a crushingly unconvincing sex comedy that may not surpass 2004's Sex Lives of the Potato Men in its grotesqueness, but certainly reminds you of it - which is bad enough. A film primarily about how hilarious it is to catch a sexually transmitted disease, but the only thing worse than sitting through Almost Married is finding out mid-way through you've contracted chlamydia just by process of visual osmosis. Kyle (Philip McGinley) is soon to be married, but on his stag do he's infected with an Std after a late night sojourn to a seedy brothel.

Having made a name for herself in hit television series The Inbetweeners, Emily Atack is now pursuing a career in cinema, in a film that’s somewhat similar to, well, The Inbetweeners. However where the ingenious comedy shines in it’s vulgarity, Ben Cookson’s debut feature falls flat. Simply because the protagonists, to be completely honest, are just a little too old to get away with it.
Atack plays Lydia, a beleaguered bride to be, readying herself to marry the calamitous Kyle (Philip McGinley). However when the latter was whisked away on a stag do in Newcastle by his best man Jarvis (Mark Stobbart), a disastrous trip to a brothel resulted in the groom catching a sexually transmitted disease. Ashamed of his adulterous actions, Kyle remains silent on the issue – though while he’s waiting for the infection to clear up, Lydia begins to get suspicious as to why...
