Django is back.
The coffin-dragging, quick-draw gunslinger character introduced in Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 Spaghetti Western classic, which inspired dozens of sequels, spinoffs and tributes, most famously Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, has finally arrived on the small screen.
Sky’s 10-episode Django, which has its world premiere at the Rome Film Festival on Sunday, Oct. 16, is billed as a reimagining not just of Django, but of the Western genre itself.
Set, like the original film, in the period after the American Civil War, the series combines plot elements from both Django and its official 1987 sequel Django Strikes Again, themes from Tarantino’s film — particularly the role of Black people and freed slaves in old West — as well as adding several original ideas of its own. Even Django’s famous weapons-packed coffin makes an appearance, though in a very different setting than the original.

An awaited English-language reimagining of Sergio Corbucci’s classic 1966 Western, a favorite of Quentin Tarantino, major European series “Django” has released first-look images as its six-month shoot continues in Romania.
Studiocanal, which has worldwide distribution rights, has also drilled down on key creative talent, announcing Friday that David Evans (“Downton Abbey”) and Enrico Maria Artale (“Romulus”) are joining Francesca Comencini (“Gomorrah The Series”) in the directors’ team, with Comencini helming first episodes.
First look images show Matthias Schoenaerts – who has sparked consistently strong notices for his performances in “The Danish Girl,” “The Mustang,” “Bullhead” and “Rust and Bone” – as the eponymous Django.
Famed for “Prometheus” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Noomi Rapace, seen mounted on a horse, plays Elizabeth who is described as a “powerful and merciless enemy” of John Ellis (Nicholas Pinnock), caught in a Wild West bar, who founds with fiancee Sarah New Babylon, a city of outcasts which welcomes everyone,...

Update: Variety has announced that this poster was a misprint and has shared the correct version here.
2020 was a mixed year for Tom Holland, one that saw him lend his voice to the awful box office disaster Dolittle, before he redeemed himself with his second vocal performance in the space of a few months, although Pixar’s Onward also suffered from poor financial returns. But at least that time the Coronavirus pandemic was to blame rather than the fact that the movie sucks, which was most definitely the case with Dolittle.
The 24 year-old then delivered the best work of his young career in Netflix’s The Devil All the Time, receiving rave reviews from critics and fans alike, but his 2021 is shaping up to be even bigger. Of course, that’s if you ignore the troubled YA adaptation Chaos Walking, which has been left sitting on the shelf for months.

MaryAnn’s quick take… The science is ludicrous, the story is almost entirely free of drama, and the finale descends into the hoariest, most ridiculous clichés of the genre. But the future smart-house porn is lovely. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m a big science fiction fan

A clever but unformed hunk of speculative science-fiction, Lennart Ruff’s “The Titan” is essentially two parallel stories of survival that are being told at the same time. One is physical and intimate; the other is abstract and infinite. Strangely, they’re both far more interesting on their own than they are cut together, but each of them poses a handful of intriguing questions about our instinct for self-preservation, asking us to locate the point at which trauma might change the basic foundation of who (or what) we are. If only these questions were posed intriguingly, and not just churned through the machinations of genre shlock that doesn’t have the courage to be as smart as either of its stories require it to be.

Next time moviegoers glimpse Agyness Deyn up on the silver screen, she’ll be rubbing shoulders with a posse of A-listers in Hollywood’s Golden Age for Joel and Ethan Coen’s soon-to-be-released dramedy Hail, Caesar!, though Deadline reports that the actress has already lined up her next project.

I'm only familiar with Taylor Schilling's work on the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, in which she plays the show's lead character, Piper Chapman. Piper is the worst, and Schilling makes her fun to hate (or at least strongly dislike). But it looks like Schilling is heading from a women's prison to the world of sci-fi, because Deadline reports that she's joining Avatar star Sam Worthington in a new sci-fi movie called The Titan.
Set in a not-too-distant future, it tracks the journey of a military family that is relocated to take part in a groundbreaking experiment of man’s genetic evolution into space.
Could that description be any more vague? I don't know if the producers are trying to keep the story details under wraps because the movie is dependent on twists and surprises, or if they just did a terrible job writing a compelling synopsis.

Science fiction cinema may seem light years away from Litchfield Penitentiary, where actress Taylor Schilling can usually be spotted in the Netflix drama Orange Is The New Black, but that is where she is headed, as she joins the cast of The Titan. The film marks the feature length debut of not only director Lennart Ruff, but also of writer Max Hurwitz, who has delivered the screenplay from an original story by Arash Amel (Grace Of Monaco).
The film is set to deal with some fairly big themes. It is set in the near future, and sees a military family submit themselves for scientific experiments, aimed at breaking new ground in genetic evolution and space exploration. This premise looks to allow for dramatic development of both an intimate and grandiose nature, as science and the future of humanity collide with a small family unit.

With Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge and no fewer than three Avatar sequels in his near future, Sam Worthington is still adding projects to his roster. The latest is The Titan, a sci-fi adventure from first-time director Lennart Ruff and screenwriter Max Hurwitz (Hell On Wheels). Luther's Ruth Wilson will co-star, along with Sofia Boutella (Kingsman, Star Trek Beyond). For Worthington, of course, there's a whiff of the familiar about that title. But nothing will clash or wrath this time, and no krakens will be released. This one's about a military family participating in a revolutionary experiment about genetic evolution in space.Voltage Pictures (The Hurt Locker) are behind the film, which they'll be hawking at Tiff next month. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister), Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh (Welcome To The Punch), and Arash Amel (Grace Of Monaco) are producing. Amel also came up with the pitch that Hurwitz based the screenplay on.

Hell on Wheels, Season 4, Episode 6, “Bear Man”
Written by Max Hurwitz
Directed by Clark Johnson
Airs Saturdays at 9pm (Et) on AMC
“Lord, don’t take me like this. Not like this”
The last two episodes of Hell on Wheels, “Life’s a Mystery” and “Reckoning” were startling disappointments with only a few bright spots. This is especially true in comparison to just how good the first three episodes of the season were and how brilliant the third season was. Until the final minutes of “Life’s a Mystery”, it seems like Hell on Wheels has lost its direction.
Besides The Swede’s (Christopher Heyerdahl) fate, what happened to Elam (Common) has been season four’s biggest mystery. Did he survive last season’s bear attack? Did he die alone in the woods looking for Cullen (Anson Mount)? “Bear Man”, a rather telling title, picks up directly where we saw Elam last.
