Talk about a ballroom bombshell! It looks like Maksim Chmerkovskiy won't be the only fan favorite professional dancer opting not to return to Dancing With the Stars for its upcoming season. The ABC reality hit revealed its line-up of professional dancers for Season 19 on Good Morning America Wednesday, and a few beloved pros were on hand to make the announcement: Karina Smirnoff, Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke, and Val Chmerkovskiy, Maks' younger brother, all of whom are returning. (Phew!) But that doesn't mean there weren't some shockers as Sharna Burgess and Henry Byalikov are out. Season 17's Tristan MacManus and Tyne Stecklein will not return, either. After winning last season with Meryl...

Guest judge Cher certainly looked and felt at home on television’s most sparkly alternate universe during her intergalactic visit to Monday’s Dancing With the Stars (read our full episode recap here).
The most subdued of the three judges (which is really saying something, namely that Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba are cuckoo), Cher gave out mostly 9s and compliments. But she was extremely amusing throughout the two-hour episode, threatening to “knee” Tonioli if he flailed too hard, upping her game from a demure sequined shift to a ridiculous feathered headdress for her second musical performance (watch it...

"Dancing with the Stars" said good-bye to Valerie Harper as the week 4 elimination in the competition. Despite being a fan favorite, Valerie and her partner, Tristan MacManus, just were not getting the scores they needed to keep going for the Mirror Ball.
It's still sad.
With guest judge Julianne Hough looking on, Valerie and Tristan were eliminated after getting the lowest scores for two weeks running. The couple had tied with Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein (who were eliminated) in week 3 with 16 points. In week 4, the low scores continued, with Valerie and Tristan earning only 18 more points for their Viennese waltz.
All other couples declared safe, the bottom three of week 4 were: Valerie and Tristan, Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd, and Snooki Pollizzi and Sasha Farber. Snooki and then Brant got their safety calls, leaving Valerie as the one to go home.
Valerie Harper, however, wasn't ready to let an elimination get her down.

Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein were eliminated from "Dancing with the Stars" week 3. Despite being a huge fan favorite, it seems that Bill Nye the Science Guy met his downfall with a robotic jazz routine.
Watch Bill's performance here to judge for yourself.
After the judges had their say, Bill and Tyne received only 16 points out of 30. Last week's scores added only 17 points -- that gave the couple only 33 points and a solid seat at the bottom of the pack. Having watched the performance, here are some theories as to why it led to low scores and thus elimination:
Bill got stuck dancing in a robot costume. It's hard to believe he had much freedom of movement in that. The leg injury that Bill suffered after last week's performance had to be a factor here.Tyne really did all of the dancing -- Bill mostly stood still and gave some robotic jerks.

Taking the stage first was "King of Queens" beauty Leah Remini and her partner Tony Dovolani who danced a James Bond inspired Rumba to the tune of a 24 out of 30.
Making for an impressive next round of dances, Corbin Bleu and his pro Karina Smirnoff quickstepped their way to an impressive score of 26 while Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy pulled in a 25 with their foxtrot.
Although he didn't make it to the top of the leader board, Bill Nye still gave it his all despite his injured tendon. Moving slowly to try and stay in the game, he and his partner Tyne Stecklein came up with a clever robot inspired Jazz number which earned them a 16, but unfortunately were sent home packing.

Introducing Bill Nye the Robot Guy! This week's episode of Dancing With the Stars featured a plethora of Hollywood-themed performances, but it was Bill Nye's dance that really stole the spotlight. After a severe knee injury in last week's performance, our favorite science guy did not let this suffering stop him from shaking his groove thing in Monday's episode of DWTS. Although his dancing pro partner Tyne Stecklein created a clever robot-themed dance to hide Nye's limited mobility, America's lack of votes combined with the judged low scores were not enough to save him. Tonight we were backstage with Nye and the rest of the DWTS cast to find out their reactions to the heartbreaking...

It was “Hollywood Night” on Week 3 of Dancing With the Stars, which meant a glittering array of dance-infused tributes to Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and the Lone Ranger (say what?) from Season 17’s cavalcade of stars.
Let’s high-kick right to the highlights:
Dance Of The Night: Though this season could already be called Dancing With the Walking Wounded – evidenced by dire early-in-the-show medical updates from poor Brant Daugherty (sprained foot), Bill Nye (torn quadricep) and Tyne Stecklein (tweaked knee) – there were nevertheless several “wow” moments, including Christina Milian and Mark Ballas’ joyful, energetic Charleston. Despite a handful of incidents which threatened to sideline a few of Dancing with the Stars' remaining contestants, all eleven celebrity couples managed to make it to the ballroom floor where they celebrated the glitz and glamour of old Hollywood.
Most notably, viewers were nearly robbed of Bill Nye the Science Guy's fantastically wacky footwork due to a partially torn ligament in his knee suffered during last week's televised routine. Despite a grim prognosis from his doctor, the ever-inventive star found a creative solution around the impediment by incorporating robotic moves into his futuristic Jazz dance. It's only the beginning, but one celeb has already fallen victim to the intense physical strain of professional choreography in "Dancing with the Stars."
On Monday, Bill Nye fell during his routine with partner Tyne Stecklein and was later hospitalized. After the incident, the Science Guy told People, "stepped on the cuff of these fancy slacks and I went down. We'll do R.I.C.E. – we'll do rest, ice, compression, elevation [and] see where we get."
However, on Tuesday, Bill posted a photo of himself in the doctor's office with his faithful dancing partner by his side with the caption, "Here is the scoop: partially torn ligament. Awaiting the doc's orders with Tyne. We plan to dance! Stand by..."
Luckily, this week he escaped eliminations with Keyshawn Johnson instead getting the axe. Bill's got little time to recover as "DWTS" airs Mondays at 8:00pm Et on ABC.

Bill Nye may have had the lowest scores from the "Dancing with the Stars" Season 17 premiere, but he passed through the first elimination with no problems. That save can definitely be credited to the man's fans -- both from his "Bill Nye the Science Guy" days and from his fun "DWTS" appearances so far.
But what does Bill have to say about all of this? We talked to him and his professional partner, Tyne Stecklein, right after the week 2 performances and elimination.
Obviously, it was impossible not to ask about Bill's crazy Beethoven wig worn during the couple's paso doble. "The wig ... That was fun!" Nye explained. "We did it in rehearsal, and everybody's like, 'Should we use it?' But everybody thought it was great, so I wore it."
There was more to the performance than just some crazy hair though -- a point Bill Nye was insistent on making.

It's not easy to be cut first, a lesson Keyshawn Johnson learned Monday night on "Dancing With The Stars."The NFL star and his partner Sharna Burgess were the first couple eliminated on Season 17 after their scores from last week's dance, the audience vote, and this week's dance score were tabulated (the performances and eliminations are merged into single episodes this season). "I don't really care at this point about whether we win or lose. It's just about the fact that I had the opportunity to learn from her," Keyshawn said of his pro partner. "I think she's an amazing choreographer and her time will come. I wish I could have done more to help her out."Ironically, it was Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein who received the lowest judges' scores from Week 1 and Week 2, but the audience votes saved them. Leah Remini addressed her exit from the Church of Scientology during Monday's show.

Week two of “Dancing with the Stars” boasted a Latin theme, as the twelve celebrities and their partners faced the first elimination of the season.
On Monday night (September 23), the high score went to “Glee” actress Amber Riley and her pro Derek Hough, who nabbed a score of 24, which added to last week’s score combined for a 51.
Hot on her tail with a two week total of 50 was “High School Musical” hunk Corbin Blue and his partner Karina Smirnoff, who wowed the audience with their jive.
Landing in the lowest spot for the evening was Bill Nye, aka The Science Guy, who along with Tyne Stecklein garnered a 31.
However, with fan votes figured in, the first celebrity to dance off into the sunset was former NFLer Keyshawn Johnson.

Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein — whose beaker-infused week 1 cha cha set to “Weird Science” (also embedded below) drew in a record-breaking 3.2 million YouTube views — attempted to slay us again with a stirring paso doble set to Beethoven’s 5th:
Judge Bruno Tonioli called TV’s Science Guy “a ferocious and fearsome maestro” who mixed genius with insanity. “You nearly blew a gasket!” he correctly assessed. “There was actually some paso doble there,” he continued. A rave review!

A new leader board champ was crowned Monday at DWTS! With a combined score of 26 points, High School Musical star Corbin Bleu and his number-two Karina Smirnoff cut a rug all the way to the top with a lively Jive that earned the couple two nines and a ten from the judges. The high-scorers took the coveted title from last week's victors, Amber Riley and Derek Hough, who fell a few spots after performing a spirited take on the same dance, in turn earning them three eights for a combined score of 24 points.

Bill Nye the Science Guy is definitely a fan favorite on Dancing with the Stars, but did people's votes save the low-scoring star from being the first eliminated contestant of season 17? Following last week's 14 out of 30-point cha cha, Nye, 57, and partner Tyne Stecklein showed a little improvement on Monday night with a 17-point Paso Doble, but it wasn't enough to keep them from the bottom of the leader board, with judge Carrie Ann Inaba critiquing his footwork. Trailing close to the scientist was Keyshawn Johnson with an 18-point samba that Inaba said was "rough around the edges" - and Valerie Harper,...

Bill Nye is not exactly the best dancer for "Dancing With the Stars" but he has a huge group of fans on his side. They were in the studio wearing their mad scientist outfits and cheering very loudly for the science guy.
His dance this week was a paso doble with a Beethoven theme and the judges have realized it's futile to really "critique" his dancing.
"The ferocious and fearsome maestro in an exhilerating mix of genius and insanity. You definitely stepped up a gear, so much so that you nearly blew a gasket. ... There was actually some paso doble there," says Bruno.
"You worked with what you've got. You made fun of yourself while you were dancing. It was a weird bizarre masterpiece of insanity," says Carrie Ann, while Bruno admits that he underscored Nye in week one.

After Week 1 of Dancing with the Stars, Bill Nye and Tyne Stecklein (aka "Team #HotKnowledge," in the Twitterverse) are in last place, with their cha-cha earning a lowly 14 points from the judges. But they've emerged as early fan favorites in the competition, thanks in part to nostalgic voters who are familiar with Bill Nye the Science Guy. And Nye, for one, is determined to step it up this week. In fact, when TVGuide.com chatted with the Science Guy on Thursday, he apologized for calling a few of minutes late because he was "rockin' out" in his kitchen, practicing his steps for the paso doble. Will those round-the-clock rehearsals pay off?
Read our full interview below for Nye's preview of his next routine. Plus: See why he thought the judges' critiques were "harsh" this week and get his thoughts on being the underdog in the competition:

If there's a science to becoming a good dancer, it would be helpful to Bill Nye.

It's that time of year again, as ABC premiered season 17 of their smash hit "Dancing with the Stars" on Monday (September 16).
Making for quite an impressive start to the season, all but three contestants managed to pull in scores higher than 20 out of the possible 30.
As for this year, there are a few changes to the ballroom that fans will notice. First off, "DWTS" will only air once a week rather than twice and the celebs and their partners won't do interviews in the skybox after their performance, rather they will all sit in a "pit" area together.
So who is topping the leader board for week one? That would be "Glee" star Amber Riley who wowed with a score of 27 for her cha cha. Coming in second place was Disney actor Corbin Bleu and "Saved By the Bell" babe Elizabeth Berkley who both nabbed 24 points.

Dancing with the Stars brought out some unexpected stunners – and a standing ovation that drew tears – on Monday night's season 17 premiere.
Although early favorite Corbin Bleu wowed the crowd as predicted with a 24-point contemporary dance with partner Karina Smirnoff, it was Amber Riley, 27, who landed the near-perfect score.
