Ciara is taking back her narrative. Overnight, the diva dropped "Level Up," her first single since "Dance Like We're Making Love" was released in 2015—and the first single since she signed to Warner Bros. Records last year. J.R. Rotem produced the track for the singer's forthcoming seventh studio album, and it samples the Jersey Remix of "We Are Young" (used in the "F--k It Up Challenge"). The video, directed and choreographed by Parris Goebel, a.k.a. Parri$, features the ReQuest Dance Crew. The song's title cleverly references Ciara's controversial #LevelUp social media posts. In January, she reposted a video clip from John Gray's "He Who Finds a...

Dmx, "Undisputed" (United Music Media Group)
It's been awhile since Dmx made headlines in terms of music. Instead, over the last few years, the once-great lyricist has been reduced to a tabloid target due to his many arrests, his drug issues and his disturbing appearances on reality TV.
"Undisputed," his first album of new material since 2006, likely won't change that. The rapper lacks the magic found on his previous efforts. His seventh release offers more misses than hits, and it seems as if the 41-year-old is past his prime.
Dmx's trademark growls, barks and ad-libs are found throughout the album. And for the most part, he still raps about his struggles overcoming his own self-inflicted mistakes as he prays for guidance.
But "I Don't Dance," the first single that features hip-hop newcomer Machine Gun Kelly, is one of the album's most lackluster pieces of work – by Dmx's standards. And there...

It's one of the trickiest moves in music and even if it's done right it only goes in one direction. With her just-released second album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, Nicki Minaj has served notice that she aims to be that rarest of MCs: one that can appeal to the pop crowd and hard-core hip-hop heads at the same time.
It's virtually impossible (so far) to start out pop and then work up enough cred to get over with rap fans. But like Missy Elliott, Nelly, Eminem and Diddy before her, Minaj is hoping that she can stay relevant to the heads who fell in love with her three years ago on a series of buzzy mixtapes and still become the next Katy Perry.

“Hit by a train / falling from a building,” the lyrics say. “Crashing my car, coming flying through the windshield / Falling in love with ya, I’m gonna get me killed / I’m too young to die.”
The song debuted after the 24-year-old was sentenced to three consecutive 30-day terms – plus 90 days of rehab – for breaking her probation on two 2007 DUI convictions.
The track was written by Lolene and is produced by J.R. Rotem.

Taio Cruz may not be a household name yet in the United States, but that should change soon. The British pop/R&B singer recently broke a Billboard record when his single "Break Your Heart" (featuring Ludacris) jumped 52 places from its debut position to the #1 spot on the Hot 100 chart.
"With Ludacris, pretty much every track he's ever featured on sounds amazing," Cruz told MTV News. "I gave him a quick call and asked him if he could get on the record, and he recorded it and sent it over. As I expected, there was nothing I needed to change. It sounded perfect."
It's also worth noting that Luda's verse helped Cruz clarify just how to pronounce his first name correctly. "He put my name in there,...

From the one who usually sees other artists cracking the charts with his self-written singles, Jason Derulo now becomes renowned singer who scores his own chart-topping song. After ruling Billboard Hot 100 with debut single "Whatcha Say", he is currently extending his reign across the pond with his second single "In My Head".
Produced by J.R. Rotem, his catchy tune successfully knocks previous champ Simon Cowell's all-star charity track "Everybody Hurts" to drop eight slots to the ninth position. This is Jason's first U.K. No. 1 single. Last year, he could only reach No. 3 in the country's singles chart when releasing "Whatcha Say".
"I'm very pleased people have been so respective to the new single," the singer/songwriter previously said of the positive response he received from music fans for his tracks. "But it's just the beginning," he added.

He counts Sean Kingston and Kara DioGuardi as fans - and spent Grammy night hanging with Rihanna and Beyoncé. But who is Iyaz? Born Keidran Jones in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Iyaz, 22, was discovered by Kingston, who checked out his MySpace page in 2008. Since then, his single "Replay" has already snagged No. 1 spots on worldwide charts. He’s also rubbed elbows with musical heavyweights like Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie. And he hasn't even released an album yet. (Produced by J.R. Rotem, it's due out on Warner Brothers Records' Beluga Heights/Reprise Records this spring!) As Iyaz gears up for its release,...

New artist Iyaz successfully cracked the Top 5 of Billboard Hot 100. The rapper's debut single "Replay" which also serves as the lead single off his forthcoming studio album "My Life" peaked at No.2 on the chart since being released in July 2009.
Following its success across U.S., Iyaz then released the single in the United Kingdom on January 4 this year. The J.R. Rotem-produced track debuted at the top spot of the country's Singles chart, scanning more than 106,000 copies in its first week on sale. It stayed at No. 1 in the second week.
Recalling the day he recorded the chart-busting single, Iyaz said, "Replay I did in the dark, J.R. said don't come out until you finish." The unique recording session resulted in a catchy tune which managed to sit among Lady GaGa's "Bad Romance", Ke$ha's "Tik Tok", Jay-z's "Empire State of Mind" and "Glee" anthem "Don't Stop Believin' " on the charts.

New York — George Clinton was the night's honoree, and Lil Wayne and Kanye West were among the big winners, but Bootsy Collins undoubtedly stole the show at the 2009 Bmi Urban Music Awards on Thursday night.
The famous bass player took part in the tribute to Clinton, which also included Outkast's Big Boi and Gnarls Barkley's Cee-Lo, among others. Collins, still the showman in his late 50s, led a party chant dedicated to his former Parliament-Funkadelic bandmate over "Atomic Dog." Decked out in his trademark rhinestone-studded attire, Collins then ventured out into the crowd and, despite wearing platform shoes thicker than most phone books, began climbing over seats.

Latest: Producers of Madonna's upcoming world tour have blasted reports Britney Spears will join her in a live stage performance.
The pop superstar had reportedly asked Spears to join her on her Sticky + Sweet tour earlier this month in a bid to help the troubled star resurrect her own singing career.
But while Spears will appear with Madonna in a short video that will be broadcast on big screens during the show, she will not be taking to the stage with the Material Girl hitmaker, reports the New York Daily News.
The tour is set to kick off on 23 August in Wales.
The pair last shared the stage during their 2003 performance at the MTV Music Awards - when they stunned fans by sharing a passionate kiss.
Spears is also rumoured to be working with producers Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins and her ex-boyfriend J.R. Rotem on her own comeback album, the follow-up to Blackout, which was released in October.

Latest: Britney Spears is working on a new album, according to a Los Angeles music producer.
The 26-year-old star - currently celebrating the birth of her younger sister Jamie Lynn's daughter Maddie - headed back into the studio in April.
Her manager Larry Rudolph insisted at the time that the session was "just for fun".
But Spears' vocal producer and co-writer Jim Beanz, claims she is serious about making another attempt at a career comeback.
He tells U.S. magazine Us Weekly, "Britney is amazing... we never see anything but positives out of her."
Spears was committed to a psychiatric facility earlier this year to be treated for a bi-polar disorder and her father Jamie was subsequently appointed conservator of her legal and financial affairs after she was stripped of custody of her two children.
But Beanz insists Spears' recent personal troubles have not been a source of distraction for the star, adding, "Everyone has personal stuff, but a true professional doesn't bring it into the studio."
Producer J.R. Rotem was last month reported to have teamed up with the pop star, to make a start on the comeback album - the follow-up to Blackout, which was released in October.
