Portraying the role of Scarlet Speedster in The CW superhero TV series, Grant Gustin became a fan favorite, with fans even rooting for him to take over the role in the DC Extended Universe. However, as the actor moved ahead in his life and with the series he frequently pondered stepping away from the show over its extensive run.

The CW has spawned a number of DC shows in the past few decades, and The Flash stands among the best of them. Running for nine seasons, the TV show chronicled the journey of the Scarlet Speedster, while also having crossovers and making cameos in other DC shows. However, there were times when The Flash was incredibly close to finishing its run, before it was stretched to 9 seasons.

The Flash arrived on the CW as an antidote to the heavy, bleak world of Arrow. Our Scarlet Speedster was going to be a bright, upbeat superhero series and it was—at first. With each successive season, it grew bleaker and more chaotic as an overstuffed cast all demanded screentime and the writing staff never seemed to grasp that there were other villains than those connected to the Speed Force.
The 2022-23 television season brought us The Flash’s ninth and final season, providing a chance to give closure to the core characters. Tomorrow, Warner Home Entertainment releases The Flash: The Complete Ninth and Final Season.
Across the truncated season, everyone had a moment to shine, get their due, take a bow and move aside so the Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Nora West Allen (Candice Patton) center got to have the last word as they finally welcomed Nora to the preset.

This post contains spoilers for The Flash series finale.
The Flash has always been about hope, even when things look darkest. And for fans of the Arrowverse, it’s hard to imagine anything darker than the series finale. Not only is the official Arrowverse coming to a close with the end of The Flash, but even other superhero shows on the CW face an uncertain future, with Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights facing potential cancelation. And yet, during the final episode of The Flash, hope arrived in the form of a lightning bolt.
As expected, the final episode built to a showdown between Flash Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and Cobalt Blue (Rick Cosnett). But the really exciting part of the show came in its final seconds, when Barry told a story to his and Iris’s (Candice Patton) newborn daughter Nora, herself destined to become super-speedster Xs (Jessica Parker Kennedy...

Over the last nine seasons — and even before The Flash officially launched — Grant Gustin has given countless interviews and made a multiverse of personal appearances. There was even a particularly eventful Season 2 panel with the cast at San Diego Comic-Con that saw the star showing off his tap-dancing skills alongside costar Jesse L. Martin. It’s been a blast to catch time with the guy, in part because he’s always been so down to clown. Grant Gustin So, as the series heads into its final episodes (the four-part finale kicked off this week), we decided to pull a Barry Allen and mess with Grant’s timeline by showing him one of his first-ever interviews promoting the Arrow spinoff. The Flash is currently in the midst of its ninth and final season, but the series finale is quickly approaching. While speaking with TVLine, The Flash star Grant Gustin answered fan questions, including if he was happy with where Barry Allen ends up at the end of the series.
Grant Gustin replied that he was, but shared that he always imagined the series ending with Barry’s death. “When I thought about [The Flash] ending, there was a theory out there that Barry would sacrifice himself to keep the Speed Force alive and become the lightning bolt that inevitably struck him [in the pilot] and create this full circle moment, which I thought was really cool,” Gustin said. “I kinda always wanted him to die a hero’s death in a way, and Eric [Wallace] was very opposed to the idea, and we really wanted to see a happy ending for Barry and Iris.

If you were vibing with Cisco Ramon and sorry to see him go in CW's "The Flash" season 7 in 2021, witnessing his return in the finale was undoubtedly a treat. The feeling was mutual for Carlos Valdes, the actor who plays Cisco. As "The Flash" races toward its series finale in May, both cast members and fans have been looking back at the previous nine seasons, and Valdes was on hand recently at Toronto Comic-Con, where /Film editor Sarah Bea Milner was in attendance to hear some of his memories from seasons 1–7.
Cisco started out as a scientist at S.T.A.R. Labs in "The Flash" season 1 and in season 2, he donned the costume of his superhero alter ago, Vibe, based on the DC Comics character. Season 5 brought the loss of his metahuman powers, which allowed him to vibe with people's locations and open breaches or portals to get there.

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 9 premiere of The Flash on The CW.
The Flash is nearly done fighting crime in Central City — but not before one final villain comes to town.
The CW series’ ninth and final season kicked off Wednesday night with the introduction of some new hurdles for Barry Allen and Team Flash to overcome. The episode begins with Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) getting stuck in a time loop, which exacerbates some of their fears about the passing of time and the lack of control they have over what may or may not happen to them. In order to get out of it, the couple must decide to take on life head on, together — rather than avoiding the problem and each other.
But just when things seem to be settling down again, Barry is faced with yet another bump in the road. Viewers will remember that,...

The ninth and final season of "The Flash" is set to premiere on Feb. 8 and will wrap up after just 13 episodes. The show's finale, which will air in May, will mark the end of The CW's Arrowverse. The franchise, which was inspired by DC Comics, began with "Arrow" in 2012 and expanded with the premiere of "The Flash" in 2014. It was then followed by "Supergirl," "Legends of Tomorrow," "Black Lightning," and "Batwoman." Considering "The Flash" has been one of the Arrowverse's most successful series, you might be wondering why the show is ending after season nine.
The good news is it had nothing to do with viewership. The eighth season of "The Flash" reportedly averaged one million viewers, making it one of the most-watched shows on The CW from 2021 to 2022. But since all good things must come to an end, it seems it was just time for "The Flash" to wrap...

There will be a few familiar faces on Season 9 of The Flash. Rick Cosnett, Matt Letscher and Jessica Parker Kennedy will return for the final season, Deadline has confirmed.
Cosnett was an original cast member, playing Ccpd Detective Eddie Thawne before he met his demise in the Season 1 finale. He returned to reprise his role in seasons 2, 3 and 8.
“We’re so excited to have Rick join us once more as we put together our final batch of emotional and thrilling episodes,” said executive producer Eric Wallace. It’s especially wonderful as Rick was an integral part of the show’s inaugural season. So having him return to help us conclude our show’s incredible nine-year run was more than a privilege. It was a no-brainer.”
Letscher recurred as multiple different versions of Eobard Thawne and the Reverse-Flash, appearing in seasons 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8.
