Despite Zack Snyder’s significant success in Hollywood as a director, some critics argue that writing may not be his strongest skill. This criticism arose after Snyder attempted to create a Star Wars-inspired world called Rebel Moon, with the first part released the previous year and the second part debuted on the 19th of April. The reviews are officially in, and the consensus is clear, it’s just not clicking with the masses.

After being turned down by Lucasfilm, Zack Snyder proceeded to helm his own Star Wars-inspired franchise, whose first part, starring Sofia Boutella, hit Netflix in December. Unfortunately, while Rebel Moon was visually impeccable, like every Snyder movie is, beyond its great imagery, the space opera didn’t have much to offer, and it was panned by fans and critics alike.
Reflecting on the overwhelming criticism, Boutella, who played the lead in the sci-fi action, expressed how hard it was for her to deal with the pushback. However, the actor did stand by the movie and Snyder’s vision, as she stressed how important the movie has been in her life.

Over a decade in the making, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is the new sci-fi space opera from co-writer/director Zack Snyder. Raised on Star Wars and Akira Kurosawa films, Snyder created the story for the film as a pitch to be a new installment of the Star Wars universe. After that pitch never materialized, Snyder eventually set the film with Netflix after the start of his latest franchise play, Army of the Dead, and its spinoff prequel, Army of Thieves.
Any fan of Snyder’s listed influences for the film would not be surprised by the main plot of the story as it mirrors them almost completely. When a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.

The last two VFX Oscar winners — “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Dune” — were late-season juggernauts. The same was anticipated for “Dune: Part Two” (originally scheduled for a November 3 release). But since Warner Bros. pushed back Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic to March 15, 2024, because of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, that opens up a void.
Now, the spotlight is on other Oscar hopefuls that would’ve been overshadowed: “Wonka”, “The Marvels”, “Napoleon”, “Poor Things” (December 8, Searchlight), and “Rebel Moon —Part One: A Child of Fire”.
Director Paul King (“Paddington”) transforms “Wonka” into the origin story of Roald Dahl’s famed chocolatier (with “Dune” star Timothée Chalamet in the title role), which now becomes the most prestigious late-season VFX contender. It’s a musical companion piece to the 1971 film “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” with Wonka struggling to start his own chocolate shop with his magic touch and secret weapon: Hugh Grant’s Oompa Loompa.

Netflix’s first batch of official photos from Zack Snyder’s science fiction epic Rebel Moon shows off the film’s key players. Inspired by Akira Kurosawa 1954 film Seven Samurai, Rebel Moon takes place in a distant part of the galaxy and follows Kora, a mysterious woman (played by Sofia Boutella) who’s tasked with saving a peaceful colony from being wiped out by an invading force.
The cast of the two-part epic includes Ed Skrein as Admiral Atticus Noble, a nefarious Imperium enforcer; Charlie Hunnam as Kai, a mercenary pilot whose Tawau-Class freighter will prove invaluable to Kora’s quest; Michiel Huisman as Gunnar, a Veldt farmer who knows little of the galaxy outside of his small, quiet corner of the galaxy; and Djimon Hounsou as General Titus, a hardened gladiator who once served the Imperium.

Get ready to embark on an intergalactic adventure like no other as Netflix delves into Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon”.
Vanity Fair released an exclusive first-look photo, providing a glimpse into the space saga set to debut on December 22.
Senior Hollywood correspondent Anthony Breznican recently sat down with Snyder, the DC Comics director behind “Man of Steel” and “Justice League”, to dive into the premise of “Rebel Moon”, its unique format, and the inevitable comparisons to the legendary “Star Wars” franchise.
“Rebel Moon” takes viewers on a wild ride through a vast array of worlds with cyborg warriors wielding molten-metal swords, colossal half-humanoid arachnids, and ancient robots that seem plucked from medieval tales rather than the future. The story, a concept Snyder has nurtured for over three decades, centers around a moon orbiting a colossal gas giant at the distant fringes of the galaxy. Inhabited mainly by farmers, this lunar...

So getting those winter blues, stuck inside for days due to the weather (and lingering travel restrictions) making you a bit stir crazy? The perfect “cure” might be a virtual “vacay”, namely a globe-spanning adventure starring two actors representing the “next-gen” of action heroes. Hey, one of them is still dominating the box office (and probably playing in the auditorium next door or down the hall). But this is no mere travelogue “romp”. It’s an adaptation (and a hoped-for new franchise). Another comic book, maybe a novel, or perhaps a classic TV show? Get with it Gramps’, this is a computer game that hopes to make as big a splash as Sonic did two years ago. Rather than a CGI speedy critter, here’s the tale...

More than 15 years after he took us to the mall for some shopping, reflection, and living dead slaying in the remake of George A. Romero's Dawn of the Dead, Zack Snyder is bringing a new zombie story to undead life with Army of the Dead, and new images have now been revealed ahead of the film's Netflix premiere this summer.
Directed by Zack Snyder from a screenplay he co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Joby Harold (based on a story idea by Snyder), Army of the Dead stars Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana De La Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, Samantha Win, Richard Cetrone, and Michael Cassidy.
Army of the Dead will be released on Netflix sometime this summer, and we'll be sure to keep Daily Dead readers updated as more details are revealed.

The theatrical cut of Justice League was clearly the result of piecing together two very, very different versions of the same movie made by two directors who have opposing styles and sensibilities. Joss Whedon’s typical quip-heavy dialogue was completely at odds with the aesthetic that Zack Snyder had laid down in Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and then brought to Justice League and as a result, it led to a film that had some incredibly jarring tonal shifts and never really felt like it came together.
It turns out that some of this may have also been due to on set drama, though, as Ray Fisher, who played Cyborg in the pic, dropped a bombshell today when he called out Whedon on Twitter. In case you missed it, you can see his explosive tweet down below.

Someone else close to the production of Justice League has now entered the debate over the fabled Snyder Cut, casting doubt over the possibility of Warner Brothers releasing it.
Dceu and Justice League photographer Clay Enos, a friend and frequent collaborator of director Zack Snyder, recently discussed the film on the Comicbook Debate podcast, and had some choice words detailing what Warner Brothers would have to do to get a Snyder Cut out to the public.
Here’s what he had to say:
“Is it a theatrical release and then what does that mean for royalty checks for the hundred or two hundred actors who participated in it,” Enos said. “Like it is just a complete mess on so many fronts. Does it get a different IMDb ya know, because each of those things, the credits become huge consequences financially and so it, my observation is that this business makes...

2017’s Justice League left us with a number of burning questions, the majority of which probably weren’t the kind that Warner Bros. intended. For one thing, many DC enthusiasts are more interested these days in the movie we didn’t get, rather than the one we did, with calls for the fabled ‘Snyder cut’ continuing to ring throughout the four corners of the web to this very day.
Not only that, but the matter of what exactly went down behind the scenes of this troubled production remains a source of continuing mystery. Thanks to Clay Enos though, we’re now just a little bit closer to understanding Justice League’s rocky journey to theaters. And that’s because the photographer recently appeared on the Farooqi Bros podcast and opened up a bit about what happened.

Before he directed 300, Man of Steel, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zack Snyder took viewers to the mall for some shopping and zombie slaying in the 2004 remake of George A. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the long-gestating Army of the Dead is "set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted."
In addition to directing, Snyder will produce alongside his wife, Deborah, through their production company Stone Quarry, with Wesley Coller also on board as a producer.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice may very well be a thing of the past, but it would appear that those intrinsically involved aren’t quite finished explicating the divisive superhero flick, like Clay Enos.

No film has divided the DC fandom quite like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Whether you love the Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel follow-up, or still possess a deep-seated hatred for it, surely by now we can assume the position of some tautophrase and allow the most interesting Dceu movie thus far to become part of comic book cinema lore, can’t we? The backstage drama related to the Dceu is way more intriguing than the films themselves. Did Zack Snyder quit, or was he pushed? How much did Warner Bros. executives meddle with Justice League? Why do they keep announcing movies that never seem to actually head into production? So many questions, so few answers.
The latest mystery is Joss Whedon’s surprise departure from Batgirl, which he was announced to be writing and directing in a blaze of publicity this time last year. The director has given the laughably rubbish excuse that he simply couldn’t think up a story for a movie, despite a sassy teenage girl Batman being pretty much the ideal Joss Whedon project.
His reason was so crap, in fact, that fans immediately (and I’m guessing rightly) assumed that there’s something else going on. Now, former Justice League director Zack Snyder has added fuel to...

Women directed 11% of the 250 top-grossing films in the Us last year, rising from 7% in 2016.
The figures come from an annual report by the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film at San Diego State University.
The study, entitled ‘Celluloid Ceiling’, shows that women comprised 18% of all directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers working on the top 250 domestic grossing films, a rise of 1% from 2016 but unchanged from 1998.
25% of all producers for the top 250 films were women, (up 1%); 16% of editors (down 1%) and only 4% of cinematographers (a decrease of 1%).
The number of women writers was down two percentage points, to 11%.

Zack Snyder’s son, Jett Elin, has some pointed words for Warner Bros. following his viewing of Justice League. As fans will know, his father had to pull out of completing the project after a family tragedy, leaving Joss Whedon to helm the extensive reshoots and provide the final cut. The result has split the fandom, and Jett is one of those who, while he enjoyed the film, would have liked to have seen less “meddling” with his dad’s vision.
Here’s what he said on Vero:
“On a more serious note I did enjoy the movie, although it is clearly not what it could have been due to the meddling of Warner Brothers and the forced comedy. The run time was my biggest gripe with the movie, with events that should take a long time over in a flash; $ but still definitely a fun movie to watch, and would recommend it.

Many agree that Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman was the highlight of the ponderous Batman Vs Superman. Having a woman director, Patty Jenkins, at the helm is just that much sweeter.
The good news is that Wonder Woman is a much better movie than Batman Vs Superman and Gal Gadot is terrific in the role, particularly wonderful in the action sequences. While Gadot is perfect as Wonder Woman and the action sequences are spectacular, the bad news is that the film takes awhile to get rolling after a good start on the island of the Amazons, gets dull in the middle,...

The Academy Awards are meant to celebrate the best that Hollywood has to offer us each year — but sometimes a few less-than-stellar films can slip through the cracks. It doesn’t happen that often in the major categories and, when it does, these duds usually pop up in the categories that fly under the radar. Let’s take a look at the films that meet the criteria of having been panned by critics and somehow landing an Oscar nomination this year and others in the 21st century.
Just to be transparent about the qualifications a film would need to meet to be included in this story, we’re looking at those that were at least nominated for an Oscar — if they won, even better — and that registered as “rotten” on RottenTomatoes.com. “Rotten” films would be...

For months now, Ben Affleck has been on the fence about directing The Batman. After the disappointment of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and just the overall negative response to the DC Extended Universe thus far, it’s not hard to see why Big Ben’s been having doubts. However, we all expected him to be able to settle his differences with Warner Bros. and proceed with getting behind the camera for the project.
That’s why it came as such a shock when Affleck announced last night that he would no longer helm The Batman. From what we’ve heard, he wasn’t happy with the script and didn’t feel confident enough in it to take on directing duties. Of course, the official statement from the actor phrased things a bit differently, as it said the following:
“There are certain characters who hold a special place in the hearts of millions.

Despite the mostly negative reaction to Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie managed to emerge unscathed. In fact, she's arguably more popular than ever before, hence why Warner Bros. is now moving forward with Gotham City Sirens. Directed by David Ayer, the movie is expected to team the character up with Catwoman and Poison Ivy, though we may also see other members of the Birds of Prey in some form. However, it will be Harley who serves as the lead here. How her appearance will differ remains to be seen, but she'll probably get a new costume (and hopefully fewer tattoos if we're really lucky). Thanks to DC Films Universe photographer Clay Enos (via Batman-News), we have a new look at Robbie suited up as Harley in Suicide Squad. Needless to say, this will make a great wallpaper on your phone...

It was recently announced that Margot Robbie will reprise the role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad director David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens. Very little is known about the movie at this stage, but it’s thought that it’ll team the fan-favourite villain up with Batman antagonists like Catwoman and Poison Ivy.
While there are other DC Comics adaptations fans would like to see Warner Bros. prioritize (where’s that Man of Steel sequel?), it’s still a cool concept, and this newly released behind the scenes image from Suicide Squad may very well help get you even more excited for it.
Taken by Dceu photographer Clay Enos, the photo in the gallery below was shot on the final day of filming. Of course, it’s worth pointing out that Suicide Squad underwent extensive reshoots – reshoots that ultimately ruined the final product – so chances are this wasn’t...

Sick of Suicide Squad yet? Well, tough luck! More images from the divisive release continue to flood online thanks to photographer Clay Enos, and the latest features an amazing shot of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn! The actress has been making headlines this week due to her recent wedding, but it was earlier this month we learned that she'll reteam with director David Ayer for Gotham City Sirens. 8 Female DC Comics Characters Most Likely To Join Harley Quinn In Her Suicide Squad Spinoff Very little is known about what we should expect from that movie as of right now, but Harley will no doubt be front and centre even with big name characters like Catwoman and Poison Ivy showing up. Are you looking forward to seeing more of the character on the big screen or should Warner Bros. prioritise someone else? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

Regardless of whether you loved or hated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there's no denying that the Caped Crusader at least managed to emerge relatively unscathed (well, apart from being a serial murderer). Our first look at Ben Affleck suited up came courtesy of Clay Enos, but director Zack Snyder has now shared an image on Vero (via Batman-News) offering up a very cool alternate shot. 6 Of The Dumbest Comic Book Battles Between Batman And Superman In some ways, it would have been better if this had been our first look at the Dark Knight as it would have kept us guessing in terms of what the suit actually looked like while also providing up a pretty iconic shot of the hero. Instead, we got a lot of "Fatman" jokes, but Affleck ended up looking pretty awesome in the movie itself. Let us know your thoughts on this image in the comments section below.

Regardless of how Suicide Squad fared earlier in the year, David Ayer’s star-studded ensemble piece has carved out an overly passionate niche of fans that have but one question in mind: When will Warner Bros. reunite Task Force X for a sequel?
Still nothing to report on that front just yet, but after amassing close to $750 million at the international box office, chances are WB will get the gang back together at some point further down the line – and that’s not counting the Margot Robbie-fronted spinoff movie that’s set to feature Harley Quinn. Until that one scurries into theatres, we now have a brand new Suicide Squad pic to keep us ticking over that features both Quinn and her puddin’, Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime.
