The seventh season of Rick and Morty ended in December, tying up many arcs in the beloved sitcom. The season had the task of going ahead and re-voicing all the episodes after co-creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland was fired from the show due to his legal issues. The season of the show followed Rick and Morty’s adventures as they pursued Rick Prime.
While the final episode of the show tied up the arc of the main characters, there are still many seasons to go. With the main two antagonists of the series getting a resolution, fans have been coming up with theories on who the next season’s villain might be. In an interview with Variety, creator Dan Harmon debunked a popular theory by Mat Pat. Spoilers ahead.

Showrunner Scott Marder and co-creator Dan Harmon of Rick and Morty have admitted that they are not quite done with Evil Morty’s arc. The popular animated sci-fi sitcom concluded its seventh season with the episode titled Fear No Mort, which aired in December of last year.
The beloved duo’s arcs were neatly wrapped up, the main plot thread of the show was tied, and new and exciting territory was explored in this thrilling seventh season. In an interview with Variety, Harmon and Marder have gone in-depth with Rick and Morty Season 7, in addition to offering a spoiler-free preview of Season 8.
Marder said that fans can anticipate seeing Evil Morty again. The showrunner attested to having numerous “plans and grand design” with one of the most iconic Rick and Morty villains.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from Season 7 of Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty,” now streaming on Max.
With its Season 7 finale “Fear No Mort” airing in December, “Rick and Morty” was able to close off what had already been a rollercoaster of a season, one that delivered closure to the arcs of our beloved duo, and tying the knot on the series’ main plot thread — while still looking ahead at the uncharted territory left for Rick and Morty to venture to.
The show’s audience seems to have responded to the animated series’ latest offering: Its seventh season was released on Max in January, and according to Warner Bros. Discovery, is tracking about 25% higher than Season 6 in terms of viewing accounts through its first three weeks of availability.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is a beloved show with millions of adoring fans, but you don't get to be one of the most boundary-pushing comedies on air without ruffling a few feathers. Although the gang is larger than life, many of the characters draw inspiration from real people, particularly in their names. A few of the main and recurring characters in the show are named after real-life people like celebrities, close friends of the series creators, or the actors that portray them. Unfortunately, not everyone was flattered by their namesake.
The proprietors of Paddy's Pub are pretty darn despicable, but some of the show's minor characters are even less likable. The McPoyles are among some of the most repulsive characters in the show, and their sweaty, unibrowed, incestuous family often finds itself at odds with the gang. The family name, which evokes unpleasant words like "boil" and "spoil," was...

The main characters of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" are so outrageous they seem like they couldn't possibly be based in real life, and Frank is perhaps the strangest of them all. Portrayed by the incomparable Danny DeVito, Dennis and Dee's millionaire father chooses to move into their friend Charlie's tiny apartment and leave his upper-class lifestyle behind.
"He's got the Midas touch, but he misses living in squalor," DeVito explained in an interview with The New York Times. "The one line that got me hooked to do the show was that I had a scene with Charlie Day, and I say [...] 'Let me come and live with you, man. I miss living in this Bohemian style.'"
Frank develops several new bohemian quirks, like a "toe knife" he uses to dig the scum out of his toenails, a habit of eating cat food before bed, and a penchant for...

Historically, “Rick and Morty” has ended its seasons with a “big shoot ’em up” episode, aka a high-action, high-octane and highly canonical episode that often influences the course of series for seasons to come. That’s not the approach Season 7’s conclusion takes.
Written by Heather Anne Campbell and directed by Eugene Huang, “Fear No Mort” is one of the most intimate and introspective episodes this series has ever aired. Rick (Ian Cardoni) and Morty (Harry Belden) learn of a “fear hole” located inside of a Denny’s bathroom, a portal that forces those who enter to face their absolute worst fears. Desperate to feel something close to terror again, Morty jumps through the hole, setting off an adventure in which Rick is reunited with his lost love Dianne (Kari Wahlgren) and Morty has to confront what he truly means to his grandfather.

Rick and Morty wrapped its seventh season in spectacularly nightmarish fashion on Sunday, forcing the titular duo (but really just Morty?) to confront their darkest fears, a journey that reunited Rick (but not really Rick?) with his late wife, among other dramatic developments. Like most episodes of this show, it was… a lot.
“Season 7 was really all about conjuring Diane, Rick finally being able to say her name again and everyone beginning to really heal in terms of all that,” executive producer Scott Marder tells TVLine. “Rick’s going to continue growing and figuring out what life is like beyond...

This article contains spoilers for Rick and Morty season 7 episode 10.
Rick and Morty season 7 had a lot to be afraid of.
Adult Swim‘s animated hit went into the year without the original voices of its titular characters following co-creator Justin Roiland’s dismissal of the show. This meant that the show’s writing staff, led by co-creator Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder, had to work in two new major voice actors (Ian Cardoni as Rick and Harry Belden as Morty) while also fighting against the inevitable fan perception of creative inertia that all animated series face nearly a decade in.
Perhaps it’s no surprise then that the theme of season 7’s 10th and final episode all comes down to fear. Fittingly titled “Fear No Mort,” the season finale finds Rick and Morty meeting a mysterious thrill-seeker (voiced by Liev Schreiber) and being brought to a Denny’s...

Rick and Morty‘s Season 7 is set to wrap on Dec. 17, and ahead of its finale, showrunner and executive producer Scott Marder is teasing what’s ahead for the Adult Swim animated series.
In a recent interview, Marder opened up about working on Season 9 of the show and hinted at a ten-season saga that’s being worked on.
“I can’t tease a lot. I can tell you we’re in the middle of writing season nine,” Marder said in an interview with Comic Book. “I can tell you that we’ve already got a couple ideas for Season 10 that are already kind of pinned. There is a full plan for a full 10-season saga.”
He continued, “So if people are on board with what we’ve been doing the past couple seasons, we’re intending to give them more of that. But there are certainly arcs and cool things and big surprises in store.

The duo behind Rick and Morty’s new voice leads are breaking their public silence on what it’s been like to take over two of the most popular characters in animation.
Ian Cardoni (Rick) and Harry Belden (Morty) beat out thousands of candidates vying to take over the titular roles that were previously voiced by series co-creator Justin Roiland before he was ousted from the series in January. Below, the previously unknown actors reveal their behind-the-scenes journey — from their first auditions to struggling to pull off their respective characters’ voices to dealing with fandom reactions. Though they’ve now had the roles for months, when being interviewed via Zoom last week, Cardoni and Belden came across like a pair of giddy Rick and Morty superfans who still feel like they just won the lottery.

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers from “Unmortricken,” the fifth episode of “Rick and Morty” Season 7.
Dan Harmon is, by his own admission, “allergic to serialized, canonical stuff.” But the “Rick and Morty” co-creator told Variety that he resisted that impulse for “Unmortricken,” the episode that brought Season 7 of the Adult Swim animated sitcom to its halfway point on Sunday night. Not only does “Unmortricken” check in on the series’ overarching story for the first time since the Season 6 premiere (which aired over a year ago); it also sees the grisly death of a character once built up as the show’s arch-antagonist, even as it gives another an unprecedented level of power within the “Rick and Morty” universe.
Co-written by Albro Lundy and James Siciliano and directed by Jacob Hair, “Unmortricken” opens with what appears to be a standard “Rick and Morty” adventure — until Morty goes on a rampage,...

Between the public internal turmoil and recasting major roles several seasons in, “Rick and Morty” has always been a show that’s been as chaotic behind the scenes as it is on-screen. For series co-creator Dan Harmon, Season 7 represents the hope that “era” is over.
“I think Seasons 1-7 have always been the result of coping with the production pipeline. Then you get what you get off of the assembly line, which I’m usually massively proud of,” Dan Harmon told TheWrap. “But we’re coming up on an era now where it’s like, ‘Oh, actually, we can make creative strategic decisions about the content on the screen.'”
Harmon noted that the behind-the-scenes story of the shows “has always superseded the creative and onscreen direction.”
“It’s kind of a meta answer, but what Season 7 represents to me is the first season where we’re on schedule,” Harmon said.

Through its first six seasons, identifying who voiced one of the many aliens, critters, or goobers on Rick and Morty was a pretty easy thing to do. That’s because, in addition to performing as the titular lead characters, co-creator Justin Roiland also embodied most of the show’s strange background players.
Following season 6, however, Roiland was fired from the series due to receiving domestic battery charges (later dropped) and multiple allegations of sexual assault. With Roiland gone, multiple actors have stepped in to fill the roles of Rick, Morty, and the whole other host of characters from the Adult Swim hit’s increasingly large constellation of galaxies, timelines, and multiverses. Even without the personnel change midway through, Rick and Morty‘s cast of voice actors was already pretty confusing beast to make sense of. So let’s try to do exactly that.

Season 7 of “Rick and Morty” is the first volume of the Adult Swim animated sitcom, a “Back to the Future” riff tracking the adventures of a mad scientist and his bumbling grandson, not to star co-creator Justin Roiland as the voice of both title characters. The network fired Roiland in January after the actor was charged with domestic violence; though the charges have since been dropped, an NBC News report last month alleged a pattern of inappropriate sexual conduct. In between, the roles of Rick and Morty were recast with soundalikes Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, a monthslong saga that culminated with the debut of a Roiland-free show on Sunday.
All this behind-the-scenes upheaval might suggest “Rick and Morty” would return a markedly different show. But “How Poopy Got His Poop Back” is almost pointedly normal, collecting various fixtures of the “Rick and Morty” universe — not just Rick and Morty themselves,...

Rick and Morty’s seventh season has had an air of controversy and intrigue surrounding it as series creator Justin Roiland was fired by the show and Adult Swim due to felony domestic abuse charges being brought against him. Even though Roiland hadn’t been involved in any major creative decisions with the series for years, he still voiced the eponymous duo as well as other side characters up to his departure. With Roiland gone, the creative team behind Rick and Morty had some seemingly large shoes to fill to get the new season done on time and make sure the change was virtually seamless for long-time fans.
Rather than going the Solar Opposites route and bringing in a well-known actor with a different voice to replace Roiland and making a bit out of the whole thing, Rick and Morty showrunner Scott Marder decided to take a different approach. To start,...

“Rick and Morty” finally revealed the new voices of the titular characters in Sunday’s Season 7 premiere episode following star and co-creator Justin Roiland’s ousting over sexual misconduct allegations.
Shrouded in mystery until now, the credits announced that Ian Cardoni is the new voice of Rick Sanchez and Harry Belden is the voice of Rick’s grandson Morty.
In contrast to Dan Stevens taking over Roiland’s role on the Hulu animated series “Solar Opposites,” the “Rick and Morty” team opted to cast a wide net to find soundalikes for the beloved characters, which is why they went with these two largely unknown actors.

Dan Harmon recently finally addressed the fractured relationship between him and Rick and Morty co-creator, Justin Roiland. Roiland faces a series of serious accusations and misconduct and the legal trouble he finds himself in has caused his projects to find replacements for his voice roles. Probably the most notable of the properties is Rick and Morty, in which Roiland played a prominent role. Season 7 of the show has now premiered with new cast members in place and Dan Harmon insists that the animated comedy will not suffer in quality without Roiland’s involvement. “We want the show to speak for itself. We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans.”
Scott Marder, the showrunner for Rick and Morty, talks with The Hollywood Reporter along with Dan Harmon about the tough task of finding voice talents that can seamlessly replace Roiland.

After a nearly six-month search that featured thousands of candidates, newcomers Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden now find themselves squarely in the spotlight after they officially made their debut as the voices of the narcissistic, alcoholic genius Rick (Ian Cardoni) and his bumbling grandson Morty (Harry Belden), respectively, in the season seven premiere of the Adult Swim animated hit.
Sunday’s premiere marked the first episode of Rick and Morty without co-creator Justin Roiland, who until now had voiced both characters (among others) for all of the show’s 61 previous episodes. Roiland was fired from the cult hit and saw his Hollywood empire implode after allegations of domestic violence surfaced and reports, including in The Hollywood Reporter, uncovered years of his allegedly troubling behavior. An Orange County District Attorney dismissed the domestic violence charges, citing insufficient evidence, and has also denied new allegations of misconduct that range from sexual harassment to sexual assault.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" has pushed the boundaries of comedy many times over the years. Some controversial episodes featured blackface, others included homophobic slurs, and one included an homage to the beloved 1990 rom-com, "Pretty Woman." The film is fondly remembered as one of Julia Roberts' breakout roles following "Mystic Pizza" and "Steel Magnolias." It is lauded as a romantic rags-to-riches fairytale, a modern Cinderella if you will — but the "Sunny" creators had a slightly different take on the premise.

Rick and Morty held a San Diego Comic-Con panel Friday, where the Adult Swim show’s team gave an update on the casting process following Justin Roiland’s exit amid felony domestic abuse charges that have since been dismissed.

This week, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” is uniting with another 2000s TV staple, “Breaking Bad.” Season 16’s “Celebrity Booze: The Ultimate Cash Grab,” which is set to premiere Wednesday, June 28, will follow the gang as they meet Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, who play themselves in the episode.
In the clip, Dennis (Glenn Howerton) and Mac (Rob McElhenney) have a plan in store for Paul and Cranston as they make an appearance in Philly to launch their own celebrity liquor label, Dos Hermanos. But that scheme comes to a screeching halt when Paul refuses to shake Dennis’ hand.
“I really don’t mind shaking his hand,” Cranston whispers to his former AMC co-star.
“How many times do I have to go through this? We’re not shaking hands,” Paul responds. The short moment is a complete about-face from the dynamics between Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.

Way back in December 2020, FX Networks bestowed early seasons 15, 16, 17, and 18 orders on the half-hour comedy, and the series booted The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet out of the top spot with its season 15 debut.
Series creator Rob McElhenney joked about his master plan for the series back in Dec. 2020. “When we first pitched Sunny, we saw it as a 36-season arc,” said McElhenney. “We are so excited to be halfway there.”

“Rick and Morty” is expected to fulfill its 70-episode order despite Adult Swim’s recent decision to cut ties with creator Justin Roiland, who has been charged with felony domestic violence related to an incident that first surfaced in a January 2020 criminal complaint.
An individual with knowledge of the matter told TheWrap that Roiland has been less involved in the series in recent years, but affirmed that not only is “Rick and Morty” moving forward, the series also is not expected to cut short its expansive episode order. There are 40 episodes left to produce and air from the initial 70-episode order.
Roiland has voiced both titular characters since the series premiered back in 2013, though the source noted that those roles will be recast moving forward.

There is an unspoken rule to sitcoms that nothing can change, at least not permanently. As Bojack Horseman once said, "there's always more show." "The Simpsons" can never age its characters, and Bob's restaurant in "Bob's Burgers" can never truly be successful, because the show would simply have to end. When it comes to "Rick and Morty," the characters can never be happy, and the status quo cannot be changed drastically for long, or else the show cannot continue.
Granted, we have seen some change in "Rick and Morty," if only temporarily. Each season has started and ended with Rick being rather vulnerable, and changing his dynamic with the rest of the family. Whether it was his imprisonment by the citadel, his being pushed as the dominant member of the family when Beth and Jerry reconciled, the death of Rick's best friend, or the destruction of his portal gun by Evil Morty.

They say any kind of publicity is good publicity, but we don’t know if that’s true. Rick and Morty Season 6 on Adult Swim has everything any fan could ask for: clever jokes, the advancement of character arcs, parodies of classic sci-fi concepts, and callbacks to fan-favorite anecdotes. But for all the good it’s doing within the fan base, there’s hardly anyone talking about it in public. Showrunner Scott Marder initially revealed plans to release a new season of Rick and Morty every year ahead of the Season 6 premiere. This could make anyone worried that production may turn into a cash factory, churning out a product rather than quality entertainment. But co-creator Dan Harmon also teased, “Season [6] is f—cking amazing. It really is a f—cking quality season,” at Sdcc 2022 earlier this year. Much to our surprise, critics agree with him, and so do we. Now...

“Rick and Morty” Season 6, currently airing Sunday nights on Adult Swim, is coming back to a sci-fi/fantasy TV landscape it helped reshape. Thursdays alone premiere new episodes of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” on Disney+, “Star Trek: Lower Decks” on Paramount+, and “Little Demon” on Fxx, which all have executive producers that worked on the Emmy-winning animated program. Even on the film side of things, it was recently announced that while one “Rick and Morty” alum, Jeff Loveness, is going to write the upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” another, Michael Waldron, is writing part two, “Avengers: Secret War.”
“We’ve all just been one by one cashing in on our ‘Rick and Morty’ street cred,” Waldron joked to IndieWire. “It’s one of those rare shows that, just having been able to be part of it, it did feel like it raised your profile and made you...

"Rick and Morty" is coming up on its sixth season, which begins September 4, 2022 on Adult Swim. But the show actually started 10 years ago, and those early years were rather difficult for co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland. Thankfully, a guaranteed order of 70 episodes back in 2018 (with 40 left to complete after the sixth season concludes later this year) made it much easier for the series to maintain a proper schedule. In fact, things are going so smoothly that both Roiland and Harmon have been able to step away from the show somewhat. Don't worry, they're still very much involved with the creative direction of the show, both serving as executive producers, not to mention Roiland's essential involvement as the voices of the two titular leads. But the show has another executive producer in the form of Scott Marder, whose previous credits include "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" and "BoJack Horseman," and...

"Rick and Morty" is a series that thrives on introducing memorable one-off characters every episode. The season 5 premiere, "Mort Dinner Rick Andre," featured one of the most memorable yet: Mr. Nimbus, ruler of Atlantis and Rick's nemesis. Even though Rick treats their rivalry with embarrassment, Nimbus is the first character he's genuinely afraid of.
Voiced by series co-creator Dan Harmon, Nimbus is flamboyant and promiscuous, with a fondness for pelvic thrusts and referring to himself in the third person. He's also super-powered, being able to control water, sea life, and, somehow, the police. During the episode, Nimbus stops by the Smith house to negotiate a peace treaty to his feud with "Richard." Nimbus ends the episode as one of the only characters to have triumphed over Rick, sending him to jail while he has a one-night stand with Beth and Jerry.

“It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia” has been renewed for four more seasons, FX’s John Landgraf announced on Disney’s Investor Day call Thursday, bringing it to Season 18 and helping it break a record for sitcoms.
The long-running Fxx comedy created by Glenn Howerton and Rob McElhenney began in 2005. Season 15 of “Always Sunny” will debut in 2021, which was previously announced as part of FX’s 2021 slate.
“Always Sunny” now tops “Ozzie and Harriet” as the longest-running sitcom in television history, with “Ozzie and Harriet” topping out at just 14 seasons.
The Gang of Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Howerton, McElhenney and Danny DeVito recently took over the old filming location of “The Office,” which also started in 2005. The show was FX’s first original comedy and has continued and grown in popularity as a cult favorite over the years. It moved to Fxx in 2013.
The show follows the adventures of the Philadelphia friends at Paddy’s Pub.

The program for the bite-sized streaming service will see the former Big Mouth star speak with researchers and botanical experts to learn about the most natural aphrodisiacs Earth has to offer, from roots to tree bark. Sex Plants, which is the Quibi project’s working title, seeks to open up the conversation about sex positivity and will also feature Slate meeting with experts and sex plant pioneers.
Sex Plants will be the actress’ newest project after Big Mouth co-creator Nick Kroll recast Slate amid outrage over the Netflix show’s casting of non-poc actors to voice characters of color. Upon her Big Mouth exit, Slate said that voicing the show’s Black character Missy was “flawed.”

Frank Doberano comes back to the real world in this issue to get revenge on Jasper Kane. I didn’t find this issue to be quite as funny, maybe because there wasn’t the level of satire here that I was hoping for. Still, it has an original voice and a quirky comedic sensibility that I can’t quite shake. I have no idea where the series is going, apart from the revenge story, but I’m willing to read along.

Doberman is a pretty funny book to read if you remember that it’s a spoof/homage of all of those cop action films from the ‘80s, especially Lethal Weapon. Written by several of the writers for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, the book will feel strange if you don’t remember that it’s intended to be a loving parody. Once you remember that, it feels amusing to read.
Doberman is the epic tale of Frank Doberano, an Lapd officer. He’s the picture of every stereotyped office that doesn’t play by the rules and has panache, right down to his grizzled Kurt Russell looks. His nickname is the Doberman, and we can see his style on display when he foils a convenience store robbery by spitting beer in the faces of the robbers.

Fans of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia rejoice, because the sun will be shining for a couple more years! FX has just renewed the popular sitcom for two more ten-episode seasons, and will continue airing the show on their new Fxx channel.
The good news doesn’t stop there, either. Now that the show has been renewed, it’s become the longest-running live-action comedy in cable history. Furthermore, FX loves the leading trio so much that they aren’t only renewing the show, but are also giving the gang’s production banner, Rcg Productions, a three-year deal that gives them the opportunity to pursue other projects as well.

Back in the Game, Season 1, Episode 6, “Night Games”
Directed by David Katzenberg
Written by Scott Boden Hodges
Airs Wednesdays at 8:30pm Est on ABC
Back in the Game loses its way again this week as it continues to stick to a structure that simply doesn’t work. Once again we see those horribly distracting titles at the beginning of the episode that introduce characters we should already know by now. This show is quite similar to some of its competitors, Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs in particular. With each of these shows airing Halloween episodes this week, and each being family-driven comedies, these similarities stand out. “Night Games” is a combination of the two story lines that can be seen in both last night’s episodes of Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs. Similarly to Pete from Trophy Wife, The Cannon is motivated by his annoyance of youngsters on Halloween.

Sunday brings us panels for Breaking Bad, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary, Under the Dome, Community, Sons of Anarchy, and more!

ABC, which has one family comedy with a male lead on the air in Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing, is developing another multi-camera family half-hour centered on a guy played by a stand-up comedian. The network has bought Big Children, written/executive produced by Scott Marder (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and starring actor-comedian Rory Scovel (The Life And Times Of Tim). Produced by ABC Studios, it centers on a thirtysomething “only child” (Scovel) who must move home and parent his parents after they retire and revert to acting like children with too much time on their hands. Scovel is repped by CAA, which also reps Marder, Mosaic and Isaac Dunham.
