Two popular “Saturday Night Live” alumni — Bill Hader and Jason Sudeikis — are going mano a mano this Emmy Award season. The big question for Emmy voters: Will they choose Sudeikis’ adored feel-good Apple TV + “Ted Lasso,” which was the big winner last year, or take a walk on the dark side with Hader’s breathlessly bleak and audacious HBO comedy “Barry”? The latter won six Emmys in its first two seasons including back-to-back acting honors for Hader in 2018 and 2019.
This is the first time the one-time castmates will be competing against each other. Because of the pandemic, “Barry” was Mia on HBO for three years.
As of now, the sophomore year of “Ted Lasso” is leading in our odds to repeat its major Emmy wins including series, actor, supporting actor for Brett Goldstein and supporting actress for Hannah Waddingham. There were many memorable episodes in season 2 including, most notably, the Christmas installment.

Chicago – In the history of America, there are moments when champions rose above their societal status and circumstance. And so it came to pass that African American Jesse Owens – during one of most difficult times in America for blacks – won medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, representing America and striking a blow against Adolf Hitler, four years before WWII. Owen’s story is told in the new film, “Race,” and he is portrayed by actor Stephan James.
Life in Depression-era America was difficult for all citizens at the time, but never more so than the black population. Emerging from those times was James Cleveland “Jesse” Owens (Stephan James), a track athlete of extraordinary talent. He was called first to represent Ohio University, under the tutelage of Coach Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis). The coach molded Owen’s raw talent and soon he broke several world records. The 1936 Olympics in Berlin were a...

This year sees quite a number of titles with Jeremy Irons in them. Premiering this week is Stephen Hopkins' biopic Race, about Jesse Owen's historic Olympic win in Nazi Germany, while Ben Wheatley's High-rise (reviewed here) is currently doing the festival rounds. And later this year, Jeremy can be seen in both Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Assassin's Creed movie. Wowzers! Mind, Jeremy is known to have an eclectic career, popping up with brilliant performances and barmy scenery-chewing alike, switching between impressively introvert and hilariously extrovert at will. Therefore, once again I'm going to use thirteen pictures of one of my favourite thespians to make a quiz. Click through the images, and guess which movies they're from. No competition, no prizes, just...

After last year’s Unbroken took a look at an Olympic tale and melded it with a war drama, we’ll have another similar feature come next year with Race. The story follows the legendary Jesse Owen (played by Stephan James, who replaced John Boyega) who during the 1936 Olympic games in Berlin came home with four gold medals, challenging Hitler’s twisted idea of Aryan supremacy.
