The BBC has lifted the coffin lid on the first teaser trailer for Dracula, its co-production with Netflix from the makers of Sherlock.
The three-part series, which stars Claes Bang as Count Dracula, is written by Sherlock’s Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and produced by Hartswood Films.
The series, which finished filming in August, is inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel and will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy.
In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London, and judging by the teaser, the series will be full of gruesome nastiness that will not be for the faint of heart.
The trailer features blood-spattered letters, a fly in an eyeball, loose fingernails, and Bang whispering menacingly to a terrified victim: “Try and stay calm, you’re doing very well.”
Jonny Campbell (Westworld), Damon Thomas (Killing Eve) and Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) direct the series.

The first thing you notice about Grear Patterson’s “Giants Being Lonely” is how unbelievably sharp it looks. Hunter Zimny’s cinematography is bright, and it’s crisp, and if you weren’t sitting in a theater you could swear that someone left the motion smoothing on. “Giants Being Lonely” may have the free-floating structure of a Terrence Malick joint, but it hasn’t been filmed through the fog of memory. It’s immediate and specific and painful and impressive.
Set in an unspecified rural alcove of the American South, “Giants Being Lonely” examines the lives in the orbit of a high school baseball team. Their team, the Giants, is talented and successful, thanks mostly to a star pitcher named Bobby (Jack Irving) and, perhaps, to their emotionally abusive Coach, whose overlooked son Adam is on the team too. Not that anyone would notice.

One of the last major members of the Anthem team is no longer with BioWare.
Ben Irving, the Lead Producer on Anthem, has shockingly decided to leave BioWare.
"After 8 amazing years at BioWare I have made the decision to move on and have accepted an exciting opportunity at another gaming company," says Irving via Twitter post. "Since the first time I played Baldurs Gate many many years ago, BioWare was the dream place I always wanted to work. I will forever be grateful to all the people who gave me the chance to work on great products with amazing people."
There's a lot to unpack here, so bear with us. First off, Irving has something of a negative reputation among BioWare fans due to both the failures of Anthem and some decisions he was reportedly responsible for which may have hindered the growth of Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The creative team behind His Dark Materials has called the Philip Pullman adaptation a “challenging” show to write but the “quintessential” HBO/BBC co-production.
Writer Jack Thorne and exec producer Jane Tranter, who runs production company Bad Wolf, spoke about the big-budget fantasy epic alongside stars including Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda at its TCA press tour panel.
Thorne admitted that he wrote several dozens drafts for the first episode of the show, which is set to launch on HBO in October. “We wrote papers to ourselves about all the different ideas in the show. We wanted to do a Ph.D. in Phillip Pullman and we tried to do a Ph.D. in His Dark Materials. I wrote 46 drafts of episode one in order to find a way to tell this story as elegantly as possible. BioWare isn't about to give up on Anthem, and the studio "looks forward to showing players the new content."
Despite the mixed responses to Anthem and the reports of a troubled development at BioWare, the company doesn't intend to give up on its soaring shooter game any time soon.
"We remain 100% committed to Anthem and look forward to showing players the new content we are working on," Chad Robertson, BioWare's Head of Live Service, said on Twitter. "We want to make sure we aren’t overpromising, so our updates on what’s coming in the game will be focused when we have things near completion."
In a second Tweet, he added this: "Along with [Ben Irving, the lead producer on Anthem,] and I, we've got a big team between Austin and Edmonton focused and motivated for improving the game. We appreciate your support and for being on this journey with us.

You'll have to wait a little longer for Anthem's Cataclysm event as BioWare is focusing instead on making improvements.
BioWare has announced that a number of the planned updates for Anthem have been delayed.
"While we have delivered many of the Act 1 features on time, we are not going to hit all the goals on our Act 1 Calendar," BioWare's Ben Irving and Chad Robertson wrote in a recent Reddit post. "We have been prioritizing things like bug fixes, stability, and game flow over the new features of Act 1. We set aside time for this work, but the reality is there are more things to fix and improve than we planned for. While this is the best thing to do for the game, it means some items from the calendar will be delayed."
The BioWare representatives then list some of the previously planned content that will be delayed.

Anthem‘s rocky release is not uncommon for an online-centric title shackled with expectations, but players are beginning to encounter problems with the shooter’s endgame content.
Case in point: Strongholds, instanced events cut from the same cloth as raids and dungeons, which have caused quite a few headaches ever since Anthem launched back in February. Over on Reddit, for instance, one user lamented the fact that, even after 80 hours of gameplay, his/her first Legendary drop was locked behind a force field.
Frustrating though that may be, Ben Irving, lead producer on Anthem, has held his hands up to acknowledge the problems with the shooter’s endgame content, and promised that change is coming.
I just wanted to pop in here and apologize for a terrible player experience that I am directly responsible for. As the Stronghold lead the buck stops with me. I can offer explanations but at the end of the day,...

The BBC is adding “Life” to its drama lineup. The new series hails from writer Mike Bartlett and producer Drama Republic, the team behind the popular drama “Doctor Foster,” which was a hit for BBC One in the U.K. and also internationally.
Bartlett is one of the U.K.’s top writers. His new show is set in the northern English city of Manchester, in a large house subdivided into apartments. Billed as an epic saga, the six-parter follows what happens when residents decide to step out of their own personal space and take a closer look into other people’s lives. “Life” examines each of the flats and “the belief in the human capacity to connect, to care, to love and to change,” the producers said.

Despite some initial problems, BioWare has ambitious long-term plans for Anthem.
While Anthem's first demo did not have gone according to plan, BioWare is confident that the game will find its footing and an audience when it launches on February 22. However, even those that have bought into Anthem don't really know what to expect from the game once they've completed the initial content offerings. Thankfully, it seems that BioWare has plans in place for the game's post-launch content, and those plans partially consist of raids that the studio isn't quite ready to refer to as "raids."
"The problem with 'raid' is it has a connotation," said Anthem producer Ben Irving in an interview with Eurogamer. "It requires more people or has five bosses in a circle. That's why I'm using the word 'aspiration content.'In other games a raid is that and while I think that is...

Inspired by Bram Stoker’s classic novel, the three 90-minute episodes will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast.
The project has been in the works for some time with the news emerging in June 2017. It will premiere on BBC One in the UK and on Netflix outside of the UK. It was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content and Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama. Exec producers are Gatiss, Moffat and Sue Vertue for Hartswood Films, Ben Irving for BBC and will be handled by Larry Tanz for Netflix.

The BBC and Netflix are sinking their fangs into “Dracula,” a major new series adaptation of the classic vampire tale from the team behind “Sherlock.”
Variety was the first to report that Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat were working on a new take on the Bram Stoker story last year, and that Sue Vertue’s Hartswood Films was set to produce. U.K. pubcaster the BBC has now commissioned three 90-minute installments. Netflix will carry the show in most markets outside the U.K.
“Dracula” marks another collaboration between Moffat and Gatiss after they combined efforts on episodes on Hartswood-produced “Sherlock.” Set in 1897, the series will revolve around the blood-drinking count from Transylvania who sets his sights on Victorian London.
Moffat and Gatiss said: “There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero.” Vertue quipped: “There’s nothing like fresh blood.
