Just in case you need to be hit over the head with a hammer and told what the heck was going on, this week's episode of One Tree Hill was about what comes next.
In "Nobody Taught Us To Quit," the phrase kept coming up time and time again, but I was most interested when the show actually took a look back.
First, we started the episode out with another "Dear Lucas" from Haley James Scott, and with rumors of returns by Chad Michael Murray and Hillary Burton looming, I can't help but get excited at the thought. Using this device in every episode must be a way of foreshadowing that Lucas is going to be that much more important this season.
And then there were a bunch of "remember that?" moments that also made me smile. We had Brooke talking about when her parents lost all of their money...

He has been compared to Bruce Springsteen and Tom Waits, yet the very prolific singer-songwriter Matthew Ryan has eluded pop stardom. Since 1997, almost annually, he has released a new album, and 2010's Dear Lover delivers his most cohesive and enjoyable set to date. The following is an interview with the artist. Mike Ragogna: Why is your best album, Dear Lover, not on a major label? Matthew Ryan: Oh man. Mike, I appreciate hearing that. My goal was to always keep getting better. I think part of what destabilized my career early on is that I didn't feel like I'd created a great piece of work. It's a process, something I read recently in a Seamus Heaney book called Preoccupations. Heaney is a great Irish poet, but he had this one book where he writes about other people's poetry. It's absolutely...

I’d love to know what Matthew Ryan thinks of the bowling alley scene in Crazy Heart. If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s the part where Jeff Bridges’ character, the brilliant-but-brokedown singer/songwriter Bad Blake finds himself headlining a bowling alley in Bumfuck, Colorado, and leaves much of the entertaining to the local band backing him because his contempt for himself and his fans is such that he’s puking his whiskey-soaked guts offstage. I thought of Ryan when I saw this scene because, like Jeff Bridges’s character, he’s a brilliant singer/songwriter (albeit much younger than Blake) and because the last time I saw him live there weren’t two dozen people in the room. The devastated look on Ryan’s face that night as he stared out into the sparse crowd is one I won’t soon forget. The poor guy didn’t...

[Editor's note: The Disappeared premiers on IFC On Demand on Wednesday, July 15th. We like this one. Review here.]
Back in August of last year, Qe managed to get in on the UK premiere of Johnny Kevorkian's urban ghost story, The Disappeared at the Frightfest in London. Review here. The film went down a treat and was a highlght of the festival, Imho. A few weeks later Qe managed to catch a busy, and somewhat relieved Mr. Kevorkian, (no relation), for a coffee and a chat to discuss this very British film.
Qe: Where did the seed of the idea for The Disappeared originate?
Jk: Myself and Neil Murphy, the Producer had had a really bad experience of a film script that we had optioned. I'm not going to mention the name. We'd tweaked the script and made it much better, but then we lost the funding and it was very, very frustrating. We said to ourselves that we couldn't keep on getting other people's scripts and spending...

"The Disappeared," from writer and director Johnny Kevorkian, will make an early showing at the Institute of Contemporary Arts beginning June 17 and ending on the 28 of June. At its heart "The Disappeared," is a ghost story involving the possible abduction of young Tom Felton. Already picked up by IFC Films for North American distribution all the characters from "The Disappeared," can be seen in the United Kingdom starting in the summer while a North American wide release is forthcoming. Have a look at a mysterious trailer for the film inside and prepare for a roller coaster ride through the dark alleys of the imagination.

Matthew Ryan, whose new song “Shook Down,” written and performed with The Dead Satellites, is an anguished call to action. The age of irony has not exactly been kind to the protest song. In a world fond of Prozac and Family Guy, lyrics that express earnest anger about what’s wrong with the world tend to be greeted with suspicion and smirky derision. And it hasn’t helped that so many recent attempts to get America fist-pumping in unison—I’m thinking Toby Keith’s Shock’n Y’all album—are really just clever marketing or, in the case of that Bob Dylan/will.i.am “Forever Young” Super Bowl commercial, unabashed advertising. No, there’s no returning to the days when Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s “Ohio” were actually Top 20 hits. (I’m not complaining. I love Seth McFarlane, too.) But after...

We caught wind of a really cool looking new UK indie thriller entitled The Disappeared, which was directed by Johnny Kevorkian. Following the disappearance of his younger brother Tom, Matthew Ryan tries to put his life and sanity back together. However the past keeps coming back to haunt him. Over at the official website you can check out a trailer for the film that will show you why it peaked my interest. In addition, you'll find a longer synopsis and cast and crew info. Unfortunately I can't seem to find any stills, but I'll see what I can conjure up.
