That was fast. Just five days ago, it was announced that Jeffrey Wright, whose credits include American Fiction, Westworld, Basquiat, Shaft, The Batman, and multiple James Bond and Hunger Games movies, was joining the cast of season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us to play a character named Isaac. A character Wright provided the vocal performance for when he appeared in the video game The Last of Us Part II. Now Wright has been spotted on the set of The Last of Us season 2, and a spy pic gives us our first look at him in character now that he’s playing Isaac in the flesh:

We first crossed paths with Isaac Dixon in The Last of Us Part II; the leader of the Washington Liberation Front, he's an antagonist in the game and someone it appears we'll soon learn more about.
A newly revealed set photo (first shared on GameFragger.com) from The Last of Us season 2 shows Jeffrey Wright suited up as a younger version of the villain. The game only revealed a few minor details about his past, including the fact he moved to Seattle after serving in the United States Marine Corps. In the present, he's Abby's boss and she's his most trusted soldier.
Interestingly, the uniform suggests Isaac is working for Fedra at this point in the timeline, suggesting the TV series will explore how and why he turned on them after becoming one of the many people who rebelled against military control.

If you can add Jeffrey Wright to your film/TV series/video game/secondary school play, you add Jeffrey Wright. The Last Of Us game creator Neil Druckmann already knew this, having the Academy Award-nominated actor voice a character called Isaac in The Last Of Us Part II and now he and fellow TV series adaptation show-runner Craig Mazin are keeping that tradition intact, with Wright reprising the role, this time in live action for the show's second season.
Game players will know who he is, but for those whose first experience of the story is the show, we'll look to avoid spoilers by simply quoting the series' official line on the character: "the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy."

As production continues on the second season of HBO's adaptation of best-selling survival horror video game, The Last of Us, we have another late casting addition in the form of an Academy Award-nominated actor.
Variety (via GameFragger.com) reports that Jeffrey Wright has signed on to play Isaac Dixon, the character he provided the voice for in The Last of Us Part II game.
This take on Isaac is described as “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.”
In the game, Isaac leads the Washington Liberation Front (Wlf), who are engaged in a long-running war against the fanatical Seraphites (Scars). Abby Anderson (Kaitlyn Dever) is his most trusted and valued soldier, but she soon begins to question his ruthless and uncompromising tactics.

You can't do better than Jeffrey Wright, so why even try? The actor is coming off his first-ever Oscar nod for "American Fiction," which is frankly shocking given the pedigree of his previous work. We're talking about the man who starred in Mike Nichols' "Angels in America" miniseries (reprising the role he played in the original Pulitzer Prize-winning play's Broadway debut), spent 15 years playing Felix Leiter, the coolest cat in the Daniel Craig James Bond movies, and was the Mvp of Matt Reeves' "The Batman" as Jim Gordon. He was also everyone's favorite human-turned-host, Bernard Lowe, across all four seasons of "Westworld" and has recently become a member of Wes Anderson's acting troupe.
Now, HBO and "The Last of Us" writers/executive producers Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have, very wisely, elected to bring Wright back in the role that he previously tackled via voice-acting and motion-capture in 2020's...

Jeffrey Wright is returning to HBO — and to the world of The Last of Us.
The Emmy winner and recent Oscar nominee has joined the cast for season two of The Last of Us, based on the best-selling video game franchise. Wright will have a recurring role as Isaac, the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group. It’s familiar territory for Wright, who provided the voice for Isaac in The Last of Us Part II game.
Wright is one of a number of new additions to the cast for season two, which is in production and slated for a 2025 premiere. The coming season will also feature Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord and Danny Ramirez, and Catherine O’Hara will be a guest star.
Leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey will return, along with fellow season one actors Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley.

Production is underway on season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, and Deadline has just revealed the name of a cast member who will be joining the show in this new batch of episodes: Jeffrey Wright, whose credits include American Fiction, Westworld, Basquiat, Shaft, The Batman, and multiple James Bond and Hunger Games movies. Also on Wright’s list of credits is the video game The Last of Us Part II, where he provided the vocal performance for the character Isaac – and that’s the same character he’ll be playing on the HBO series.
Wright’s character Isaac is “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group, known in the video game as the Washington Liberation Front, who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.“

“The Last Of Us” Season 2 cast already had some stellar new additions, but this one may be the best of the lot. Deadline reports that Jeffrey Wright joins the ensemble cast as Isaac, the powerful leader of the Washington Liberation Front in the videogame. And that casting makes perfect sense, since Wright voiced the same character in 2020’s “The Last Of Us Part II.”

As the Fireflies' famous catchphrase goes: "When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light." And as our not-so-famous catchphrase goes: "When you're waiting patiently for The Last Of Us Season 2, look for the first images of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's return as Joel and Ellie." Good news – that light has arrived, people. During an Upfront presentation yesterday, Warner Bros. Discovery gave fans their first look at Season 2 of Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin's critically acclaimed game adaptation — and we're already feeling all the feels. You can see the Joel pic above – and here's the Ellie shot:
Now, these pictures don't tell us an awful lot about what's coming in Season 2, but that doesn't make them any less fascinating to look at. Joel's grown-out locks. Ellie's winter hat. His new jacket. Her new shotgun (who — or what — is it aimed at?). Both of them look a bit older now,...

Thanks to GameFragger.com, we have the first images of Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie from the upcoming second season of HBO's The Last of Us.
Shared by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation, both characters look very much in line with their respective video game counterparts, though there are already more complaints on social media about Ramsey looking too young for the role.
She is now 20, a year older than Ellie was in The Last of Us Part II. The video game version looked quite a bit older than 19 when players were placed in her shoes, and we're sure such a youthful-looking Ellie will only make what's to come in season 2 more harrowing.

"It's about a group of people coming together to solve a really huge problem." Neon has revealed a making of featurette video for How to Blow Up a Pipeline, which is now playing in limited theaters around the country. This acclaimed film is under extra special scrutiny because the FBI issued security notes about it - of course they did. A crew of young environmental activists execute a daring mission to sabotage an oil pipeline in this taut and timely thriller that is part high-stakes heist, part radical exploration of the climate crisis. Based on the non-fiction book of the same name from Andreas Malm - which describes sabotage as an effective and necessary form of climate activism. This video features a roundtable conversation with director Daniel Goldhaber, editor Daniel Garber, co-writer / executive producer Jordan Sjol, and star Ariela Barer, who also wrote and produced the film. Well, “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” has been taken quite literally by law enforcement.
The Neon-distributed film based on the non-fiction book by of the same name has inspired an FBI alert warning against inspiring real-life terrorist attacks on energy infrastructures. Rolling Stone reported that the FBI bulletin warns against the film’s threat to fossil fuel production.

The climate activist drama "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" just got even more punk rock. The film, which is based on a nonfiction book of the same name published in 2021, caught the attention of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies with its supposed ecoterrorist message. The efficiently titled How to Blow Up a Pipeline weaves a fictional story of eco-sabotage out of Marxist academic Andreas Malm’s book on climate activism. It’s also self-critical when it comes to cinema’s role within the movement.
One of the film’s central activists, Dwayne (Jake Weary), a Texan farmer whose land has been forcibly seized by the government for the construction of a pipeline, is interviewed on camera by a crew of documentarians. They’re keen to “put a human face on this crisis” in order to “raise awareness”. But all they’re really doing is demanding that Dwayne recount his pain for their own purposes. Will they contribute to his legal expenses? Will they stick around to fight his cause once the cameras have stopped rolling? We all know that they won’t. Filmmaker Daniel Goldhaber, who applied a similar sense of moral clarity to his debut,...

Sabotage is a hopeful practice, a claw in the institutional fabric, and a tactic for long-term amelioration—so argues Andreas Malm, the provocative and ruthlessly efficient author of How to Blow Up a Pipeline: Learning to Fight in a World on Fire. Malm’s manifesto, though uninstructive in the mechanics of the text’s title, runs in counterflow to both climate pessimism (or “fatalism”) and pacifism, arguing the mainstream environmental movement is lacking in one key flavor: functional sabotage. It isn’t so difficult to blow up a CO₂ emitting device, Malm says, and though his writing eschews the mechanics of how to do so, he offers ample rationale. “Will those in school today or born next year grow up to think that the machines of the fossil economy were accorded insufficient respect?” asks Malm.In his sophomore feature, Daniel Goldhaber shoulders the task of realizing Malm’s paperback as a narrativized feature,...

While Fox News has made very clear over the years where its messaging stands when it comes to the urgency of climate change, anchors on “The Big Saturday Show” felt they were given all-new reason to sound their alarm with the release of Neon’s “How to Blow Up a Pipeline.”
Featuring a story inspired by Andreas Malm’s 2021 nonfiction release of the same name, the indie feature comes from director Daniel Goldhaber, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ariela Barer and Jordan Sjol. Admitting that he hadn’t seen the film himself — “I went through and watched the trailer, watched parts of it” — Fox News co-host David Webb torched the project as “leftist Hollywood propaganda” on Saturday, while other panelists raised questions about the existence of climate change at all.

Oscilloscope Laboratories’ Cannes Jury Prize Winner and Independent Spirit international film winner Joyland led New York’s Film Forum to one of its biggest opening weekends for a foreign language film in nearly a decade, taking in north of $21k on one screen, the distributor said. Buoyed by strong reviews and strategic marketing, the film by Saim Sadiq sold out nine showtimes, with the theater adding additional shows.
The first Pakistani film to officially compete at Cannes it screened in Un Certain Regard winning the Jury Prize then playing at TIFF, Sundance and New Directors/New Films. It is still banned in much of Pakistan due to themes of queerness and inclusiveness. Expands to LA on April 21, then to top 50 markets and beyond.
It was a decent weekend for specialty and arthouse fare with some solid openings amid lots of competition, including from wide-release adult fare like Air. That relatively speaking,...

Fatalism about the future of our planet can certainly kill the mood, but, as luck would have it, the gripping new eco-thriller How to Blow Up a Pipeline sizzles with an urgency that borders on the sensual. Yeah, you’re gonna want a date for this one.

In "How to Blow Up a Pipeline," Sasha Lane's character, Theo, doesn't have too much to lose, making her quest for revenge even more unrelenting. Like the rest of the young activists who come together in the Texan desert to demolish an oil pipeline in the film, Theo has a good reason to want to harm the fossil fuel industry. Diagnosed with terminal cancer after growing up near a chemical plant, "she's like . . . 'might as well go out with a little bang,'" Lane tells Popsugar of her character's mentality.
Spearheading the plot is Xochitl (Ariela Barer), who grew up dancing in poison-laced rain with Theo. After her mother dies in a freak heat wave, Xochitl loses patience with her university's divestment movement and decides to wound the oil industry the way it has wounded her.
So she gathers a group of activists, including a Texan who lost his...
