The career of one of the most successful musicians of all-time is being compiled by filmmaker Charlie Lightening.

No release date has been set for the film, which includes McCartney interviews and will span his entire career, from the Beatles through Wings and now into his solo act.

Liam Gallagher admits it took him a while for him to get back on track after Oasis, which ended in 2009 when he got into a backstage fistfight with his brother Noel Gallagher. It was the end of a classic musical partnership, and set the two brothers off into the musical wilderness. Noel, Oasis’ main songwriter, formed the musically adventurous High Flying Birds. Liam created Beady Eye with former members of Oasis. But even Liam admits those years “weren’t so fruitful.” The band broke up in 2014, and Liam decided go solo.

Liam Gallagher performed as part of the 2019 MTV EMAs in Seville, Spain, and took the opportunity to revisit Oasis’ hit “Wonderwall” alongside his recent solo track “Once.”
Accompanied by his band, a large string section and several backup singers, Gallagher opened with an emotional rendition of “Once” before seamlessly transitioning into “Wonderwall.” During the chorus the musician referenced the awards’ location by changing the lyrics to, “There are many things I’d like to say to you, but I don’t speak Spanish.”

Liam Gallagher’s new documentary “As It Was” begins at the rock legend’s lowest point. A little over 10 years ago, after many years of simmering, Liam’s feud with his brother Noel finally boiled over, and their chart-topping Britpop bandOasis finally split. A decade later, that rivalry has only hardened and even threatened to derail Liam’s film.
“Liam Gallagher: As It Was” charts Liam’s comeback tour, starting with the disappointment of his post-Oasis outfit Beady Eye, and followed by a messy, tabloid-fueled divorce, until finally he found his voice and landed a No. 1 record in the U.K.
And yet telling the story of the former Oasis frontman proved to be difficult for directors Gavin Fitzgerald and Charlie Lightening — mainly because they weren’t allowed to use Oasis songs in their documentary. As part of their long-standing feud, Noel refused to license Oasis’s music for use.

“Antagonistic. Super sensitive. Impulsive. Very arrogant at times. Fearless. And more ambitious than he thinks he is.” This is how Debbie Gwyther, Liam Gallagher’s manager and girlfriend, describes the former Oasis frontman in the documentary Liam Gallagher: As It Was. There’s a lot to unpack in those words, but they ring true for Oasis fans, as well as those who have followed Gallagher’s post-Oasis efforts. There are few singers in modern music who command the stage like the singer of “Wonderwall” and “Champagne Supernova.” And there are few figures more delightfully volatile.
The documentary is a riveting, highly engaging documentary about one of the few rock stars of the 1990s who deserves icon status. While it’s likely to be of interest only for Oasis fans, this is not an example of simple hero worship. Instead, As It Was is the epitome of warts and all. The battles with brother Noel Gallagher,...

Liam Gallagher has dropped another new track from his forthcoming album Why Me? Why Not. The song, “One of Us,” is a meditative, emotionally-driven rock song tinged with strings and gospel backing vocals. Gallagher co-wrote the track with Andrew Wyatt, and the musician’s youngest son Gene played bongos for the recording. Nick Zinner, of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, also appears on guitar.
“‘One of Us’ is about family, friendship and a sense of belonging,” Gallagher said in a statement. “I love the groove and the gospel outro. It reminds me of The Sweet Inspirations.

Liam Gallagher: As It Was chronicles the eccentric and outlandish life of the infamous Mancunian frontman. Director Charlie Lightening pulls back the curtains on the eccentric icon and delivers an invigorating exploration of the hidden human being. Following the titular character from the infamous Oasis split, rushed formation of his second band, ending on Gallagher’s solo outing with his debut album.
Opening up the titular character and offering detailed insights. A difficult task for many- especially – that of a documentarian looking into such an enigmatic character. The boisterous icon takes the infamous mask off and speaks openly of his trials and tribulations that have plagued his life in the last ten years. The enigmatic character is no more. It seems the hard-boiled frontman has softened on his stances all round.

Liam Gallagher has released another track off his upcoming solo album Why Me? Why Not. The new single, “Once,” is a poignant acoustic ballad about regret and making the most of your one shot.
The poetic lyrics take center stage on the song, with Gallagher crooning, “I think it’s true what they say/ That the dream is borrowed/ You give it back tomorrow/ Minus the sorrow/ And the pain she just comes in to break up the daydream/ Her knife edge is waving/ To keep from feeling the same thing.

Screen Media has acquired the North American distribution rights to “Liam Gallagher: As It Was,” a rock documentary about the career of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
The film directed by Gavin Fitzgerald and Charlie Lightening was made available at the Cannes marketplace this week, and Screen Media will release it in the fall to coincide with Gallagher’s second solo album. It also already has a U.K. release set for June 7, and the film will premiere with a special event at the Alexandra Palace venue, which sold out in 90 seconds.
The documentary, which released its first clip back in April, shows Gallagher preparing for a solo show in Manchester, England. Tina Turner’s tumultuous rock ‘n’ roll life will be told in feature-documentary form for the first time, with buyers being introduced to the project at the Cannes market.
