Updated with joint statement from Fox Entertainment, 20th Television and Bento Box Entertainment: Dave Creek, the longtime character designer on popular animated comedy Bob’s Burgers, has died after a skydiving accident.
Creek’s colleagues on the show confirmed the news on social media, posting a variety of tributes (see below). The Cartoon Brew website reported that the animator died Thursday after sustaining significant injuries from the accident last weekend.
Creek worked on Fox Network’s Bob’s Burgers from its inception in 2011, initially as a character designer and then as a lead character designer.
“We are heartbroken at the tragic passing of Dave Creek, an extraordinary artist who had been with Bob’s Burgers from day one,” said 20th Television, Fox Entertainment and Bento Box Entertainment in a joint statement. “He was not just an incredible talent but a beautiful person as well, and our hearts go out to his family,...

The year is 1979 and you are camp counselors who are being stalked through a maze of cabins and camp trails by Otis, a homicidal killer that wears a bear mask. Welcome to Camp Grizzly, a survival horror board game that has already reached its goal on Kickstarter and has more than doubled it.
I knew this was something that Daily Dead readers would be really excited to learn more about, so I got in touch with Jason Peter Topolski and Austin Madison of Ameritrash Games to learn all about their project. Continue reading to find out how this game evolved from an idea they had in high school in the 90′s, what the extra Kickstarter funds will bring to the final product, future release plans, and their interest in a Camp Grizzly movie:

Pixar artist Austin Madison has worked on film favorites like Up, Ratatouille and Toy Story 3, but a recent project found him focused on football. Madison isn't necessarily a fan of the game, which is why he had a little fun with the latest NFL season. He illustrated the opposing teams in a literal fashion, taking their names and composing a miniature, humorous narrative. The above illustration of the Giants vs. Cowboys shows just that — a towering creature battling a group of cowboys on horses. We love the addition of the Millennium Falcon shooting at five galloping broncos (Broncos vs. Falcons, obviously), and the showdown between the Niners and Cardinals looks like a lost scene from Tarantino's Django Unchained. Check out a few of Madison's minimovie...

If you took off Bane's mask, it would be extremely painful — for you. But the pain wouldn't come from back-breaking, mind you. It would come from the endless laughter at what you see beneath that mask.
Take a peep for yourself after the break.
You want to know how we got these scars? Blame Austin Madison for making us laugh so hard. Thanks to Vulture for the link!
Let us know what you think Bane looks like under the mask in the comments or on Twitter!

Today's incredibly awesome piece of Geek Art comes from the mind of Austin Madison, and it takes us into a dark world of zombie Ewoks, one of which is eating the flesh from the head of a poor Stormtrooper.
What's even funnier about this is the fact that the Ewoks don't even need to be zombies to eat people. If you think about it they were going to eat Luke, Han, and Chewy before C3PO and Princess Leia saved them. I believe they actually ate the Stormtroopers at the end of the film as well during their victory celebration.

[1] Walt Disney Studios has announced the title for Pixar's Holiday 2013 movie -- Frozen. I'm kind of surprised that the MPAA approved the title considering there was a popular indie movie released under the same title only two years ago, Adam Green's horror thriller Frozen. When the project was first announced at the D23 Expo, they revealed a joke working title (complete with logo seen above): "The Untitled Pixar Movie About Dinosaurs". More details after the jump. Previously: Here is the official plot synopsis from Disney: What if that life-changing asteroid missed Earth? Director Bob Peterson’s hilarious tale depicts a world where dinosaurs never went extinct. And here is a bit of information on the filmmakers behind the movie: Bob Peterson started at Pixar as an additional animator and layout artist on Toy Story, and worked on the story team for A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2.

Chances are you’d like to work in movies? Big, small, fetching Spielberg coffee? I guess who wouldn’t. So for anyone, even if your not looking to make the next big blockbuster, maybe you feel like I’ve felt over the last 2 weeks, absolute shit! Well take a read of this handwritten letter from a Pixar animator called Austin Madison, which was sent to the Animator Letters Project and get a big healthy dollop of inspiration!! I originally spotted this on Firstshowing and thought it was definitely worth sharing and more importantly worth reading!

When it comes to careers in Hollywood, while many will say it's a dream come true to work in this town, it's very hard work and a lot of it. Breaking into the animation world, where artists thrive, is even harder, but if there is one key to success - it's persistence. There's a blog called Animator Letters Project with the mission of collecting inspirational letters from animators, and thanks to a tip from Movieline, we caught wind of this fantastic letter from a Pixar animator named Austin Madison that focuses on the word "persist" and how that has helped him stay creative in his career. I highly suggest taking a moment to read this letter (below). There is a transcription available here, but it doesn't compare to reading the full letter as handwritten and sent into Animator Letters Project. It's a quick read, but worth it. You can also...

While it's common for successful directors, writers and actors to offer advice to their aspiring peers, it's less common to hear about an established animator encouraging his fellow artists with kind words. Nevertheless, that is what Pixar's own Austin Madison (Up, Ratatouille) has done via a thoughtful, handwritten note that he contributed to the Animator Letters Project in hopes of motivating all of the gifted future animators amongst us. Take a look at the letter, which quotes Peter Jackson and appears to be inspirational to anyone in a creative field, below.

Raise your hand if you think it was more sneaky-strategic than any secret intelligence spy movie move ever was to release the trailer to Brave (2012) at the exact same moment when the world was painfully realizing that Pixar is fallible while watching Cars 2. (Yes, yes, the people of Planet Earth ought to have caught on to this during the snoozefest that was Cars but feeling very very sleepy has a less damning quality than feeling very annoyed; people do like a two hour nap now and then.) Redirect the conversation to a happier place!
So herewith the teaser to Brave which opens next June ...alas, not this one. This one is the one where we get Cars 2, damnit. We can't really break it down like Yes, No, Maybe So since it's only a teaser. We wait until the full trailer for that. But here's the gorgeously verdant tease.

There is a little Captain America in all of us. Marvel Comics has released a wonderful collection of variant cover art for several of their upcoming comic books being released in July as a way to promote the upcoming Captain America film. The theme of these variant comic book covers is I Am Captain America. The covers were done by several different comic-book artists, and each cover depicts the real-world American heroes. Each image includes a recognizable image from Captain America. Check out the cover art and hit us up with your thoughts!

[1] Last week we featured Laika Animation's online holiday card on the site (you can see it here [2]). As the news begins to pickup a little in this Holliday lul, I thought we'd take a look at this year's cards from LucasFilm and Pixar. Hit the jump! In previous years, we've featured the designs from the many years of LucasFilm Holliday Cards (you can see 30 years worth of cards here [3], and the 2009 card here [4]). This year's card (via theforce [5]) was designed by Troy Alders and features Darth Vader releasing a dove, which is traditionally seen as a symbol of peace and goodwill toward all. [6] [7] [8] Pixar animator Austin Madison shared Pixar’s 2010 Cars-themed Christmas card on his blog [9] (discovered by UpcomingPixar [10]). [11] And the inside of the card features one of the following "Missile, Tow, and Holley" cartoon drawings: [12] [13] [14] [1] http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/ZZ7D32136B.jpg [2] http://www.slashfilm.

You might recall that last August, Pixar fans spotted some concept artwork featuring a boy and his dinosaur, on sculptor Greg Dykstra's wall in behind the scenes b-roll footage for Up. Someone also noticed some interesting postings made by Pixar animator and paleontology buff Austin Madison on his personal blog recounting a trip taken by a group of Pixar dino enthusiasts, including Dykstra, to the badlands of South Dakota. Anyone who follows Pixar's development process probably knows that the animation studio's artists usually take research field trips while developing new films. For Ratatouille, they took a trip to Paris to study the city and eat in some of the fine restaurants. For Up, they took a trip to South America to study the the strange wilderness of the region. We had wrongly assumed that the project was a Pixar short film called "Night And Day" by Teddy Newton, a...
