Benedict Fitzgerald, the co-writer of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, has died. He was 74.
Fitzgerald died Jan. 17 after a long illness at his home in Marsala, Sicily, his cousin Nancy Morgan Ritter told The Hollywood Reporter.
Best known for his work on Gibson’s 2004 Biblical epic, the highest-grossing Christian film, as well as the highest-grossing independent film of all time, Fitzgerald’s other credits include co-writing the screenplay for John Huston’s Wise Blood (1979), the adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s novel.
Born on March 9, 1949, in New York, Fitzgerald was born into a literary household. His deeply Catholic mother, Sally, was a writer and editor and his father, Robert, was a poet, United States Poet Laureate (1984-1985), critic, and famed translator of classic ancient Greek and Latin texts, who was responsible for perhaps the most well-known translation of Homer’s The Odyssey.

Stars: Mark Carlisle, Richard Rowden, Harry Roebuck, James Swanton | Written and Directed by Sean Hogan
Running at only 45 minutes, To Fire You Come At Last is one of the shorter features playing at this year’s Frightfest. Within that tight runtime, writer/director Sean Hogan crafts an eerie folk-horror tale that delivers an unsettling atmosphere within the black-and-white imagery brought to the screen.
Set in rural 17th-century England, Squire Marlow (Mark Carlisle) intends to carry the coffin containing his deceased son to the local graveyard. Joining him in the long walk are his right-hand man, Pike (Richard Rowden), and Holt (Harry Roebuck), a childhood friend of the deceased. The only other person able to help them is Ramsey (James Swanton), a low-status drunk that all look down upon. Despite the party being afraid of walking the pathway after dark, Marlow promises to double their wages if they take the journey.

Director Evan Marlowe pulls just the right strings for the uniquely disturbing horror trip that is Abruptio. Integrating life-like puppets into an all too real world, Marlowe explores the darker depths of the human experience in a film viewers surely won’t forget.
Down on his luck Les Hackel (James Marsters) can’t catch a break. In his 30’s and single, Les lives with his parents, can’t escape his monotonous office job, and struggles with an alcohol addiction. If that wasn’t enough, things take a turn for the worse when his buddy Danny (Jordan Peele) reveals explosive devices have been sewn into the necks of the working class. As long as unlucky carriers do exactly as they are instructed to, the bombs won’t detonate. However, the tasks given aren’t as simple as taking the trash out. Les is thrown into a world of violent, murderous crime...

I don't know about you, but I love me a Nosferatu. With their shiny bald heads, sinewy claws, and animalistic nature, they are the antithesis of everything Count Dracula. Gone are allure, seduction, and charm, instead replaced by gargoyle-like beings who only have one thing on their mind; your blood.
With inspiration dating back to 1922, these beastly beings have been cropping up in film and television every few years, when audiences seemingly get tired of the Count's debonair musings. And if you're like me, you'll find yourself fist-pumping every time a new Nosferatu is born.
Here are 13 Unforgettable Nosferatu-Style vampires to sink your teeth into.
Film Arts Guild Count Orlok in Nosferatu (1922)
Ah, the Og. Count Orlok is the original silent film star who didn't need words to make a chilling impression. Directed by F. W. Murnau, Nosferatu is a silent horror masterpiece that introduced audiences to the iconic Nosferatu style.

Tatiana Maslany, Laurie Metcalf, and Paul Sparks star in ‘Grey House,’ a scary, psychological play that turns Broadway into a haunted house of horrors.
“I’ve seen this movie. We don’t make it…”
Horror is a popular genre for many reasons, but at the end of the day there is just nothing like the genuine experience of being afraid. Horror films do their best to immerse their audience in terror with no reprieve, yet there are inherent limitations to this storytelling medium. There’s still screen, and therefore safety, between the audience and their fears. Live theater, especially those on Broadway, live and die through their ability to not just keep audiences entertained, but to truly believe in the spectacle before them. Horror on Broadway is therefore a deeply appealing combination, albeit one that’s all-too rare because of the difficulty in its execution.
There’s The Crucible, The Elephant Man,...

Alex Newell and J. Harrison Ghee made history on Sunday, when they became the first nonbinary-identifying people to win an individual acting prize at the 76th annual Tony Awards, breaking the glass for LGBTQ performers at the annual Broadway celebration.
Newell won Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical for their show-stopping performance in Shucked and Ghee won the prize for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for Some Like It Hot, becoming the first nonbinary performer to win the category.
“I have wanted this my entire life. And I thank each and every one of you in this room,” Newell said while taking the stage at the United Palace Theatre, during the 2023 ceremony hosted by Ariana DeBose.
Speaking directly to their mother, who was in the audience, Newell shared, “Mommy, I love you. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Playing at the historic Pantages Theater through Saturday, West End phenomenon and Tony-winning musical Six has finally made its way to Hollywood.
Six’s co-creators and writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss never planned for more than a few hundred people to see their modern retelling of the lives of the six wives of Henry VIII.
“It was low stakes,” Marlow remembers about writing the show during their final year of university at Cambridge in 2017. “But we were nervous about it. It was the first time that we were writing something like that together. It was gonna be performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We didn’t want to embarrass ourselves in front of our year group with writing something that was really bad.
But with graduation just around the corner, the friends were mostly concerned with passing their exams than writing Broadway’s next great hit. “We would meet...

“Tiny Beautiful Things” showrunner Liz Tigelaar and author Cheryl Strayed designed the show’s central character Clare (Kathryn Hahn) based on the question: what would it have looked like if Strayed hadn’t hiked the Pacific Crest Trail.
Clare’s life mirrors Strayed’s before she became a well-known writer, taking on the mantle of an anonymous advice column called “Dear Sugar” from an old colleague in “Tiny Beautiful Things,” just as Strayed did in real life for the online literary magazine “The Rumpus” in 2010. The Hulu adaptation comes from Hello Sunshine, the production company of Reese Witherspoon, who portrayed the version of Strayed that did make the 1,100-mile solo hike in “Wild” based on Strayed’s 2012 memoir.
“We have this narrative of this adult character who isn’t me, but then that young character very much acts out many of the most painful, powerful, beautiful, true scenes from my own life.

Grey House, Levi Holloway’s bumps-in-the-night stage thriller, will make its New York debut on Broadway this spring with a cast that features Laurie Metcalf, Tatiana Maslany, Paul Sparks, Sophia Anne Caruso, and Millicent Simmonds. Joe Mantello will direct.
With an opening date – Tuesday, May 30 – falling after the close of the current Broadway season, Grey House will be the first Broadway production of the 2023-2024 season. Previews begin at the Lyceum Theatre on Saturday, April 29.
Announcing itself with a teaser trailer that feels less Broadway than horror film (watch it above), Grey House, described by critics following a Chicago staging as “terrifying,” follows a couple who crash their car in the mountains and seek shelter in an isolated cabin. The synopsis continues: “Its inhabitants, though somewhat unusual, are eager to make their guests feel right at home. But as the blizzard outside rages on and one night turns into several,...

Let’s first address the obvious: My name is Marlow, and I am interviewing Liam Neeson for his new film Marlowe, the latest spin on Raymond Chandler’s hard-boiled detective Philip Marlowe.
“Interesting that your name is Marlow!” exclaims Neeson at the start of our chat.
I inform the veteran actor that I’m in fact named after the protagonist of Heart of Darkness, not the femme fatale-swerving character played by everyone from Humphrey Bogart and Robert Mitchum to Elliot Gould and now him.

Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe has been played by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. To many, Humphrey Bogart remains the definitive Marlowe, based on his performance in Howard Hawks’ The Big Sleep, but film noir afficianados will often cite Murder My Sweet’s Dick Powell, or later iterations, like Robert Mitchum in Farewell My Lovely or Elliot Gould in The Long Goodbye as the best. Indeed, Liam Neeson is stepping into some mighty big shoes with his new movie, Marlowe, but if anyone can go toe-to-toe with Mitchum or Bogart, it’s Neeson, right?
To help bring Marlowe to the big screen, Neeson recruited one of his most frequent directors, Neil Jordan. The two famously worked together on Michael Collins, as well as the earlier High Spirits and the more recent (underrated) Breakfast on Pluto, and are set to reteam again on a new prison break thriller filming this year.

If police drama remains the bedrock of British TV commissions, with 2022 having welcomed crime series Karen Pirie, Marlow, Magpie Murders, The Responder, Sherwood and many more, broadcasters also gave us a glittering seam of new fantasy and horror. Last year saw a host of new British supernatural and sci-fi series, from Joe Barton’s sci-fi action-thriller The Lazarus Project and the criminally since-cancelled YA Netflix fantasy The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, BBC Three teen horror Red Rose, Sky dark comedy The Baby, as well as a new telling of John Wyndham’s spooky children classic The Midwich Cuckoos.
Then there were shows that combined both threads, such as Amazon Prime’s mind-twisting The Devil’s Hour starring Peter Capaldi and Jessica Raine, and Pete Jackson’s excellent debut Somewhere Boy. And some new British TV shows didn’t even feature a single murder, like Netflix’s adored Heartstopper graphic novel adaptation.

Christmas is all about magic and miracles, so the timing is just right for a miracle between two estranged sisters in Hallmark Movies and Mysteries‘ first holiday movie for their Mahogany brand, The Holiday Stocking. When viewers meet single Dani (Nadine Ellis) and married mom Marlow (Tamala Jones), they learn the two have drifted apart due to a series of personal tragedies through the years. “We basically have found that there’s been a rift in our relationship since we lost our mother and it really has not come back together,” Ellis tells TV Insider. Adds Jones, “Marlow holds some resentment towards [Dani] because of how things were when the mother was still here. And then afterwards, Marlow feels that Dani had more important things to do other than family things.” In a divine twist, the sisters’ recently-deceased older brother Robert (Mykelti Williamson) holds the reconciliation key that could help heal...

For all the many modern advances in neurology, science still doesn't have a clear answer for why people dream -- or why those dreams so often involve having to take an exam that you haven't studied for. But for Nemo (Marlow Barkley), the young protagonist of Netflix's fantasy adventure "Slumberland," her dreams do have a purpose: they're a way of escaping the realities of her waking life, and getting back to the whimsical life she's lost.
Directed by Francis Lawrence ("The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"), "Slumberland" is based on Winsor McCay's early 20th-century comic strip "Little Nemo in Slumberland" and features its own take on Flip, the comic's green-faced, cigar-chewing, trouble-making clown. Jason Momoa ("Aquaman") portrays Flip as a rambunctious dream outlaw with sharp teeth and horns, who used to go on wild dream heists with Nemo's father, Peter (Kyle Chandler). When Nemo encounters this odd character in one of her dreams,...
