Lendell Black is a composer, arranger, conductor, and keyboardist. He has written music featured in numerous TV reality shows, most notably The Oprah Winfrey Show, and The Dr. Oz Show. His music was featured in the opening credits of Oprah's Special: Retrospective on Martin Luther King, Jr. In addition, Black has scored and orchestrated a number of award-winning, feature length films including, "LeftRight" (2008), "Streets" (2011), and "The Identity Theft Of Mitch Mustain" (2013).
Black is also a sought after arranger and orchestrator. Significant works include string and orchestra arrangements for the iconic jazz/pop bassist, Nathan East. The self-titled record "Nathan East" (2014) was nominated for a Grammy, for Best Album in 2015. Black also did string and orchestra arrangements on Nathan East's following record, "Reverence." (2017). In addition to arranging and orchestrating, Black co-wrote a song on the album ("Shadow), which features Chick Corea on synth. In addition, Black has had a lengthy collaboration with the multi-Grammy winning Blues/Americana artist, Keb' 'Mo, including horn arrangements on the Keb' 'Mo, Tah Mahal duet record, "Tajmo" (2017), which won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
Black's work on the Nathan East albums was the first of many projects with producer Chris Gero and the Yamaha Entertainment Group, an association which is ongoing. He has arranged/orchestrated music for multiple videos for Yamaha, many of which have gone on to win Emmys for music as well as video.
An experienced and versatile keyboard player, Black has traveled across America and around the world playing for artists including, Aaron Tippin, Lorrie Morgan, Vince Gill, Joe Diffee, Georgette Jones. Through Yamaha Entertainment Group, he has arranged and conducted for live shows featuring major artists including, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, MIchael McDonald, Wynonna Judd, Lindsey Sterling, Marc Broussard, and many others.
